FTC 8644 Alum David MA States Keynote Speech

FTC 8644 alumnus David Nguyen was invited by Boston Tech Initiative, the Mass FTC affiliate partner, to give this presentation at the 2023 FTC Massachusetts State Championship. David is currently working at the Boston Dynamics AI Institute and will be starting as a graduate student in the Mechanical Engineering Department at MIT in September.
FTC POWERPLAY: Final 8644 Brainstormers Match at APOC Finals with 12993 RoboKings

Our highlight in this match was scoring 7 fallen cones along with several others while 12993 did the rest. After 9 seasons in FTC, this is our final match. Thank you to 12993 RoboKings, the best robot at APOC, for picking us and to 20871 Eureka for coming through in Finals 2.
FTC POWERPLAY: Worlds #1 vs. #2 OPR - 8644 Brainstormers vs. 12599 Overcharged at Worlds Edison Q71

This was our most anticipated and most exciting qualification match at Worlds. 12599 Overcharged (blue) entered Worlds with the #1 OPR and we (red) entered Worlds with the #2 OPR. Blue Alliance had a slight lead after Auto, but this match could have gone either way. We came out ahead thanks to our partner 8641's clutch move to cap with their beacon at the end, disconnecting Blue's circuit.

FTC Freight Frenzy: 8644 Brainstormers Scoring 384 at Worlds Division Finals with 12928 LightSaders

Even though our autonomous did worse than expected, we were able to get the second-highest score at Worlds with LightSaders in Jemison Division Finals 2. The defense against 14481 Don't Blink was needed since it's almost impossible to get the 20-pt shared-hub tipping bonus after the opposing alliance gets about 10 boxes onto their side.

This was my first and favorite year of FTC. You guys carried me through my high school FTC career.
how did you guys make the misumi slides extend on 11/25 1:50 ? I saw two flat beams but what did you use to connect the beams together and extend?
The 2 flat beams are connected just with a screw, locking nut, and some washers. The closer beam is powered with an orange Savox servo that you can see at 1:48 when the lift is raised. We switched to ProModeler servos halfway through the season to get more range and reliability.
can you guys provide cad for the pieces with bearings used with the misumi sar230 telescopic side rails?
Unfortunately most of the team have graduated and have moved on to college, so we do not have the CAD models.

I was wondering what happened to you guys, you all were awesome, i wish you could play in centerstage i would've loved to see what you could've done
This is what we posted last year: "We are a family-based team, centered around 2 brothers David (Blue Brainstormers) and Andy (Red Brainstormers), and coached by their parents. With Andy and most of the other members graduating this year, we are ending the team."
How many pounds of force were each of your Constant Force springs on your lift? Also did you purchase them from McMaster-Carr or another seller?
We ended up using Mcmaster 9293K115 Constant-Force Spring, 3000 Cycles, 22" Extended Length, 2.870 lbs. Load, but it will depend on how much weight you are trying to lift
Did you ever have to replace them? 3000 cycles doesn't seem like a lot.@@Brainstormers8644
We changed from weaker springs to these in the middle of the season so we probably didn't hit 3000 cycles. They showed no signs of wear.
