I'm a long term survivor of HIV and I am so impressed that Dr. Ghandhi cites the work of early community health activists during the 80's about the importance of not shaming people and using harm reduction models to reach communities that have been stigmatized or even abandoned.

An inability to explain complex issues using simple language is a sign that the explaining party doesn't understand the issue him or herself good enough to be able to explain it to others in layman terms.

I am a NOC Med Surg RN in a 230 bed Hospital. I have been doing this for twelve years. I find that over the years, Nursing Leadership keeps pushing us away from direct patient care. So much charting, similar to what has happened to the Attending Docs. In Florence Nightingale time, Nurses were there to assist the Docs and bring comfort to the patient. We are still assisting the Doc but we've left the patient behind in all of our box checking for CMS. Really seeing the patient like GOD as Monica said is sort of what I mean. Anyway, sitting down for five minutes, a warm blanket and cup of hot tea does more for most people than a slew of Medical interventions. Take off the fucking SCDs that the patient is tangled up in. Take off the CPOX (temporarily) so they can be spared the incessant alarming and sit down to their eye level and listen. Its amazing what can be accomplished with an irate patient if you help them gain a little bit of control back by really hearing what they have to say. Just my 2 cents. Thanks guys for this thoughtful exchange.

Those who made the many horrific errors of judgement based on their personal politics and not on science must be removed from their positions of power so they cannot repeat those mistakes. That must be the lesson for those who replace them.

I LOVE it when you have Monica Gandhi on your show. My favorite parts of this podcast are the last 15 minutes when she talks about how we have to heal (as a country) and have compassion for each other and stop the hate. And I love your acute observation that, "We have religion, but we don't have God."

So I'm sitting here with Covid, got kleenex hanging out my nose, feeling a little grumpy, tbh, and what do I come across but Dr. Gandhi and Dr. Z, and I'm suddenly smiling from ear to ear! But then I hear that her husband passed away, and I'm sad again. But then they talk about how the experience was a window into transcendence, into god, if you will, and my smile becomes as wide as the horizon, as wide as the breadth of the universe that's present in just an instant of consciousness.
    Looking forward to the book...

As a deconstructing Christian who spent three months in northern India studying Buddhism (almost 20 years ago), I am struck by the opening statements about God being everywhere there. It’s so true. Everyone is faithful and reverent to something/someone.
That’s what started my path to questioning the absolutism of Christianity and becoming alt-middle.
It can’t be all or nothing. It just can’t. It’s all and everything.
Thank you. I’m literally crying right now because I’ve been so grieved that I lost my faith. I was starting to believe that it was foolish to have faith. But in less than 2 minutes you both turned me back around. It’s foolish not to believe. God is everything. Not the tiny punishing version of modern American evangelicalism.
    Blessings to you both!

Important to know the following information:
In the clinical trial for Moderna’s pediatric COVID-19 vaccine, the children who received the vaccine, experienced higher rates of RSV, than those who received the placebo. In Pfizer’s pediatric COVID-19 vaccine trial, RSV was listed as one of the serious adverse events among the children who received the Covid shot.
The FDA’s vaccine advisory committee noted the correlation, and stressed, the importance of continued safety, surveillance, in particular for respiratory infections, RSV, and pneumonia, in young children.

I have someone close to me who is immune compromised and still won’t engage with people in person, encourages universal masking, and shares content that implies a return to normalcy (even vaccinated) is a eugenicist standpoint. I also appreciate your recognition of the significant psychological and sociological problems we still face due to the pandemic. As an intensivist I witnessed the medical issues firsthand. Now in 2022 we are still living with unseen scars from a worldwide traumatic event. The surge of ARDS and ventilator shortages may have faded but the isolation and fear is still with us. May we all learn from this experience and face our next pandemic with courage, knowledge and trust.

At least his brilliant buddy’s VP and Marty Makary have done a great job on it. I like Zdogg’s content but when he was telling everyone to “Just get vaccinated”. I use to like Monica Gandhi and I still think she was more reasonable than most public health voices. However- when delta started to break through the vaccines, she came on the zdoggmd show and said that because of delta she was in favor of vaccine mandates. That confused the hell out of me. mandates only make sense if we are sure there is a community benefit and they stop transmission. Delta showed that the current vaccines do not stop transmission. At that point- getting the vaccines should have been a personal decision as they have nothing to do with community spread.

These are basically two UCSF bred docs presenting the UCSF point of view. It's a mindset. At least Gandhi realizes that many progressives are not at all pragmatic. I’m still confused as to how Clovid over dominated influenza.. ? Wouldn’t it be possible to suffer from both? Viral interference is a mystery to me..

How does natural immunity work when my sister had Covid in August and then has it again in December. I am 3x vaxxed and had Covid in October. Wondering if there is a point to getting a booster in January as public health where I live mandâtes you wait 3 months after infection to get boosted. At the same time … not keen on the idea of booster after booster.

Dr. Ghandi, at 46:18, we saw you as G-d… your compassion, caring and deep empathy for the humans around you is palpable because it’s not just what you do- it’s who you are. I hold both of you in this space of spirituality and understanding the beauty and compassion of humans like no other…

It doesn’t seem to me that it falls politically all the time. It seems more like peoples rate of fear in life. But I still don’t see the other side clearly but I try to respect their choices. But when I see the harms done it is very difficult to not reply back. But trying to enlighten someone is useless so I usually don’t respond and walk away but it leaves a huge scare of hopelessness in me that is hard to overcome.

Thank you both for the discussion. I think that there is an element of the school issue that you both have not considered. There were children who died from COVID-19. Yes, not that many compared with older adults. But it did happen. Prior to vaccines and the antivirals, we felt panicked and were grasping for what we could do to protect everyone. There are some places that struggle with school absenteeism. If children were required to attend school amidst a potentially deadly virus, then became ill or died, then the school system could be perceived to be potentially legally responsible for the death or injury because the children were required to be there. The schools are a critical safety net for children, absolutely, but some people viewed education as less important than survival. I would also like to point out that there are plenty of white poor children and families that depend on school services, not just those of color. However, these families may have viewed school attendance in the early pandemic as dangerous to their health. Especially if they had already been in conflict with the school for their child having poor attendance, which can happen for a multitude of reasons.

Are you cognizant of the fact that children died of respiratory viruses prior to the pandemic? Probably even more children, as flu was not as prevalent when COVID was and it was less lethal in kids?

@@MsACC2011 Absolutely, having been a RN for 25 years and a nurse practitioner for 5 years. The Covid-19 pandemic was a completely different situation than the vast majority of us had experienced in our lifetimes. What l can tell you about the area that I am in, is that we had parents taking their healthy children out of school when a classmate died of influenza a few years ago. Some parents here view education as less important than survival. They would not hesitate to file a lawsuit if they had a child die of Covid-19 after being obligated to attend school in the early pandemic. And our school administrators were well aware of this.

@@dawnbarchett8026 What happened w/COVID is not following prior protocols, not following science or data, a state controlled media, constant propaganda, and politicization of everything. Also perpetuation of a continuously more ignorant citizenry. A kid can catch something at school and die and they always could and always will have that risk. That's life and risk management.
