Life is crazy and I've got alot of stories that if I told you in detail it'd sound made up. Some are some ain't no one but the story teller knows the truth and even their truth is altered by memory and emotion. Everything is false and everything is true it only depends on who the listener is.

If I remember correctly in the real (flip a coin) Reddit version of this story she realizes she can't afford to stay and just flies back with him at the last minute. On the plane she admits that she wanted to... sample the local sausage.. for a few days without him. He dodges a bullet and kicks her to the curb. All is well in la la land.

I’m sorry, but OP’s ex sounds like she is either dumb or genuinely horrid. Her progression from start to finish was basically acting like the best gf in the world when things were easy, but the instant any inconvenience enters the scene, she starts to act resentful even though the inconvenience was him working more to help pay for her life then he plans this trip she had been dreaming about, which she then apparently doesn’t feel is enough and tells him she needs her independence but apparently isn’t divorced from the concept of financial independence and her expectation is to basically just keep vacationing while he is expected to go back to work to supplement her good time and instead of finding herself, she finds Paolo (that’s just what I’m calling him) and is still upset that her boyfriend didn’t fund her Mediterranean affair, while she gets knocked up by Paolo and decides to try to make the boyfriend SHE has been neglecting (while telling everyone ELSE that she is being neglected) think that the child is his when she knows for a fact it isn’t because SURPRISE the guy she is having a fling with does not care to stick around for her baby. She sounds like she wants it both ways all the time and is not above being manipulative, she just doesn’t like when her manipulation fails to get her what she wants. She wants the financial stability of a relationship, but the freedom to cheat. She was probably already talking to Paolo and that’s probably the reason she mentioned wanting to go to Italy to begin with: her disposition had already become withdrawn and I’m willing to bet she was all rosy-cheeked in Italy because she was meeting up with the guy she started talking to before even going to Italy. This is just speculation, but OP specifically mentioned silent meals while they were both on their phones, it seems like she had planted the seed intentionally and insisted she take more time WITHOUT him because she already had a rapport with Paolo and wanted time to get d*cked down. Once again, I’m just speculating but I have enough female friends who have planned affairs to know how these things work and to someone who is trusting their partner, they would likely only feel guilt for whatever they think they did to make their partner more reserved but let me tell you, in a HEALTHY relationship, people don’t just become silently resentful, they communicate. I’m 8:45 in and I’m stuck between wanting to know how this plays out, and not sure I can bear 16 minutes and 30 seconds of this purple prose, needlessly wordy writing. Trying this hard to pAiNt A wOrD pIcTuRe with every fucking sentence just reeks of a 10th grader who just discovered similes and thinks he’s Ernest Hemingway. Like you’re a good story teller my guy, just stop getting in your own way. Details to help visualize the scene are good, but you use analogies and descriptive language like a fucking comma. It makes it hard to follow. The descriptive details and ornate language need to enhance the story, not distract from it. It’s like salt. A little bit makes everything better, dumping the entire salt shaker on your food ruins everything
