- I wish I was a space man.
The fastest guy alive.
I'd fly you round the universe,
In Fireball XL-5.
Way out in space together,
Compass of the sky,
My heart would be a fireball,
A fireball,
Everytime I gazed into your starry eyes.
We'd take the path to Jupiter,
And maybe very soon.
We'd cruise along the Milky Way,
And land upon the moon.
To our wonderland of stardust,
We'll zoom our way to Mars,
My heart would be a fireball,
A fireball,
If you would be my Venus of the stars.... - Розваги
My father's godfather wrote this - it's an honour to listen to it now
That's awesome! I sing this song as a lullaby every night to my toddler. It's such a sweet song!
Fantastic! I hadn’t heard this for almost 60 years. I’m 65 this year and it takes me back to being a kid again. This is a song that brings back so many memories.
So cool
🎉🎉🎉my favourite song till date
My brother wants this tune at his funeral
OMG I havent heard this in almost 60 years and I can still sing along!
Still magical, and I'm now over 60.
Yep. How time flies! Suddenly we're members of the old timers club
@@tatama5782 Me too. I loved it when I was a wee one.
Me too! This and the Thunderbirds!!
Same here.
yep Steve Zodiac
😎👌 tony 26jun1960
Brings back my childhood...I am blessed to have lived in that time!!❤
The Best of Times.
Born in 1954...it's still in my heart!
I am SO happy to see so many other people cherishing this memory!
Yes. Conversely it would be depressing to see no others showing interest.
When I was seven years old in 1965 I loved this show with a child's passion. This brings back such wonderful memories for me. For school my parents surprised me with a genuine Fireball X-L5 lunchbox complete with Thermos jar. How I wish I still had that lunchbox!....
Addams Family, Munsters, Batman, Green Hornet and Jonny Quest....very cool being a kid in those days
I was 7 in 65! Luv the song to this day! Happy memories! 😉
The 60s was the decade of quality merchandise shame we will never get such a experience again
Same here n Tobor n Giagantor
Same here!
The point is, I think, just how incredibly clever this and the similar programs really were. I had the Fireball song played when I was married. People just dropped their jaws wondering where a song so beautiful came from. I would love to know whatever happened to all the highly talented people who worked on this show
There’s a great documentary on Netflix called Supermarionation that tells you all about those people!!!
luv the thought, iam having du hast played at my funeral just to see there faces
I can remember being 5 or 6 years old getting up early on Saturday mornings making a bowl of cereal and going down to the basement and watching this show.........now Im 61 years old and bored as hell.
No Brakes But I’m sure you still get excitement from watching these old shows and reminiscing it’s better to have some good memories than none at all
I think I watched this back in 1962
No Brakes There was nothing like these old shows they had character eight man gigantic or Spiderman 1967 the champions the Thunderbirds the time tunnel and I actually met James Darin probably the only person I ever really met that I was a little bit awestruck by
@@RobTheNotary --- I met Lee Meriwether at a comic con show.
@TSC TSC Saturday mornings went down hill when the psychiatrists and their ilk wormed their way into it.
I was born in 55, yes, I confess I watched it and the theme song still comes back to haunt me as one of those songs in your head that won't go away.
Great opening sequence, aided by Barry Gray's stirring musical score! Don Spencer also does a fine job singing the closing theme.
Wow! How do you even know this stuff?
I cannot believe I found this on UA-cam. I was probably 7 years old when I used to watch this. It still rolls around in my head from time to time.
Boy... my 60's childhood memories came flooding back with this one. It was one of my favorite shows back then.
My favorite childhood show ❤
60 years on and seeing this brings back happy memories of watching Fireball XL5 with my cousins. Still love that tune. I added to my 60’s playlist on Alexa. 😃🚀
I've NEVER forgotten the theme to this show! Loved the name of it and the melody!
It’s amazing to think that David Graham, who voiced over 50 separate characters in Fireball XL5 alone, is still lending his voice to shows like “Peppa Pig” and “Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom”!
I loved this when I was a kid. It is a hoot to see it and hear the theme again. 👍🏼
Hey Charles, Is this the show with Captain Scarlette?
@@caryrevels6584 no this is Fireball XL5 the puppet in the pic is Steve Zodiac. I did not get to see Captain Scarlet. I did see this and Supercar then later Space 1999
@@charlesblack2523 Awesome thanks for the update Charles appreciate it.
This has been my ringtone for many years. Always delights me to hear it!
Touched my imagination as a kid, absolutely brilliant RIP Gerry Anderson, thanks for making a kids dreams come true.
Got tears in my eyes now, hearing the ending song. I remember this show so well as a kid and I enjoyed the Andersens; flights of sci-fi fancy very much. Irwin Allen had the American scene covered, and Sylvia and Gerry Andersen had the Euro market firmly in their grasp. Between the two of them I'd say the world of fantasy was in very good hands at the time!
Remember singing this song at about 5 in my Grandma's church whilst did the flowers... great echo... so many happy memories. Did not realise it was only on for just over a year.
Those golden days of childhood...now I am 43 yrs old...it's such a nice song and story. Love love love it.
I was born on March 3, 1947 so I remember a lot of these shows. It would make me stand out in the yard and look at the stars and wonder what is out there
I enjoyed this show when i was a kid. The theme is awesome.
I'm in tears 😭 watching this.
I'm so lucky to belong to a generation which witnessed awesomely beautiful mornings with the Legendary
FIREBALL XL5. 💝💝💝💝💝
I cannot understand why the Gerry Anderson masterpieces are not shown on UK TV. The younger generations would also enjoy. Great theme by Barry Gray as always
I'm 61 and I have tears in my eyes.
Never missed it! Still my favorite ship design, ever. Would love to see a modern take on this design.
I used to watch this serial maybe 40 years ago. Still enjoy hearing this initial part and the title song. Feel like dancing. 😎
I remember this so well I loved Fireball XL5 as a kid. I even had the Fireball XL5 rocket ship. I’m glad my parents understood how much I loved it
I was the third girl in the family. I’m sure my little brother played with my Fireball XL5. I had Barbies and model horses too but I loved those Supermarionation toys the best. As an senior citizen, I like to relax by watching Thunderbirds
My cousin had the xl 5 ship. It was big
The kid who lived next to me in Louisville, KY in 1964 had a toy version of of XL-5, and boy, I had a serious case of envy! Just like a lot of toys of that era, it could do practically everything the TV version did!
What fabulous childrens programmes Gerry and Sylvia Anderson made , absolutely magical for those of us born late 50's then 60' and 70's. I still to this day get excited watchin' the opening scenes to 'Fireball' , 'Stingray' and of course 'Thunderbirds'. Takes me back to a time when as a kid i was really happy and these classic childrens programmes were part of that.
We played this at my dad's funeral as he loved it as a kid. Still makes me cry as it reminds me of him.
I'm so sorry for your loss such a beautiful song to send him off with❤❤❤
That theme song sure brings back a lot of good memories when I was a kid!!!! I remember the Thunderbirds and Capitan Scarlet as well!!!! 👍🏻
One of the best cartoon theme songs ever!
Been singing this since the 60’s, still love it and it really takes me back seeing this. I remember singing this doing 192 mph on my Fireblade in the 90’s
An absolute joy to watch. Have been a lifelong fan of gerry and Sylvia Anderson and XL5 has always been a strong favourite.
As a teen, I wish I had shows like this when I was younger than 9.
The theme is fantastic. Nostalgic 🥰
Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, Stingray, Supercar and UFO….some of my favourite shows as a kid, but the best of the lot was Fireball XL5!
I used to have dreams in black and white about the ship taking off from the runway on rails pointing into the sky!
When colour TV began, the number of people reporting dreams in black and white actually decreased significantly.
Love the closing credits, and not just the catchy song, the visuals are something special too, especially as it was all so many years pre-Apollo. Amazing, really.
What an awesome show! My brothers and sister and I could hardly wait for the end credits. We'd all dance in our jammies! 😄❤
Odd....weird....bizarre...but oh so strangely compelling ! Here in America, the only Gerry Anderson series I recall seeing on TV as a kid in the 60s was "Thunderbirds are Go !". Thank you for sharing this groovy clip with us ! CHEERS !! :-)
Thank goodness that I grew up within broadcast range of CTV (Canadian Television) or else I would have missed out on all the Supermarionation and Barry Gray's wonderful themes and orchestrations.
For a while there was a severely edited (butchered) version of Thunderbirds playing on US television, with Barry Gray's glorious music replaced by generic electric guitars. Shudder. Didn't last.
This had a magical charm. As a child I felt the characters were real and the space backgrounds was actually real stuff from space :) And the song added to the magic!
Right back to being five is absolutely right! I'm right back sitting in front of our old Sylvania black and white TV in my little rocking chair, wearing my Lone Ranger cowboy hat and eating a bowel of Cheerios with a Mickey Mouse spoon. Glad this show is remembered. It was the start of a fascination with space and astronomy that lasts to this day.
I remember watching this as a kid. Forgot all about it till I saw this, but I remembered every word of the song and could sing along . Must have been early 60s when it was on tv.
in the mid-60's i had the actual Fireball XR5 spaceship toy. The nose separated into a separate spaceship, it had the little rocket scooters, the side doors folded down and shot rockets attached to the doors. It was my fave toy. Thanx for the nostalgia flashback 😄👍
Where did time go, so quick. Great memories though of a simpler time when people had respect. Oh for a time machine.
We can time travel thanks to You Tube!
I miss my old time when saw this fireball video
Fireball XL5, The Thunderbirds, Stingray..... I loved this stuff!
Plus the earlier Four feather falls and Supercar.Happy days!
YES! Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds, Stingray and Supercar. All my childhood favorites.
Supercar was the first one I saw.
YES!... to ALL!
just to say now 100 likes all great shows I miss
I could cry right now...cant believe i got to hear the title song again.....went back in time
I was just reading personal memories of the catastrophic Alaska earthquake of March 1964. Since it happened 50 years ago, the people writing their reminiscences today were all young then, and at least 3 of them said they were watching the beginning of "Fireball XL5" on TV when the earthquake started. Of course the electricity went off immediately, but missing this show was not going to be a big concern when people were being thrown violently around and houses began to collapse.
I CANT IMAGINE WHAT THAT WAS LIKE-- BUT THE WAY TALK ON THE INTERNET IS- WE MAY EXPERIENCE SOMETHING EVEN WORSE-- I LIVE ON A BOAT- KEEP THINKIN OF THE COMET HITTING THE WATER AND THE TITLE WAVE- I JUST HOPE ITS FAST..
I remember seeing about the earthquake on Savannah, Georgia TV. What surprised me was, it was close to where we'd landed in '63: Cold Bay Alaska.
Thr Aleutians are always " vibrating" somehow.
Regards
Why can't we continue airing art like this instead of rubbish like bloody love island in the UK?
@InfiniteMushroom well said sir.
Make ITV Great Again!
Because mate Britain has gone to the dogs since these Gerry Anderson shows were made in the 60's when, although by no means perfect I think more people had more manners and a better moral compass than these days, not to mention that the country was not full of too many foreigners..it makes my heart weep to think that people fought in two world wars and the bag of crap we have in Britain in 2020. I am 56, I grew up in the 60's and 70's and Britain was so much better then I think. We didn't know how good it was.
That’s it, real entertainment.
Cause itv owns all of Gerry work and more something is rare the more valuable it is to them
And whats more profitable
Airing on tv or limited run blu-ray and dvds
Amazing! I am 50 years now living in London. I remember watching this series as a school kid living in India on a black & white television.
When I was in first grade, I had a FIREBALL XL5 lunch box. I was top dog. All the boys and some girls in my class thought that was soooo cool. This was in 1965.
Fireball XL5 - one of the highlights of the week when I was a child.
Me too!!!
I was born in May 57 and we got our first TV in 62 so my earliest memories are of Space Patrol (which terrified me) and Fireball XL5. I went on to become a huge Thunderbirds fan. I can't imagine what the sixties would have been like without these groundbreaking shows and the amazing unsung creatives who conceived them.
IF it weren't for these shows, the 60's probably would have been delayed for a couple of decades.
Roberta Leigh's Space Patrol was a very different product. That was quite surreal and, yes, it was scary.
i was born in sept 59 and have similiar fond memories of fireball xl5 and space patrol!
Born in July '59 and I am told I loved this show - but I have no memory of it !
@@HalotheHobb Absolutely! And that score of "electronics" lingered too.
The real thing I love about youtube is you can type in a fav progs of the past, no matter how far back, for example, the 60's and hey presto, there it is! Kids now take this tech for granted but guys like me in their 50's can now go back down memory lane and bring back to life those tv memories no matter how vague, so long as you got enough info in the title it will deliver...like magic!
Born in ‘61. I’ve hummed & sang what words I could remember for all those years until today, when I googled those words & got this result. Incredible to hear it again & see that little bit of the old show. Thank you for the upload!
RIP Gerry Anderson, Thanks For The Memories!!
And RIP Sylvia Anderson.
When I was a kid, I was so eager to be in the year 2000 to get one of those flying scooters. They were the coolest thing.
One of my most fave theme tunes, born in 1964, loved Joe 90 , and Stingray (and Thunder Birds, Captain Scarlet - all of them). Those were the Good Ol' Days - best times of my life. Love n Light n All...That...Jazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I loved this as a kid. Then in my late teens it came on TV again and watched it all over again. Classic.
one of the best intro ever. Gives me the warm fuzzy's totally iconic!
Me and my 8 yer old big sister on the horizontal elecrolux vacuum cleaner in the 60's, I think I'm going to cry, :)
Haha...me and my sis did that too! I was lucky enough to work with Don on Play School in early 80s. He's a top guy.
Yeah I'm 60yrs old and remembered watching this program through the 60's and early 70's corny as I got older but looking at couple show on UA-cam you have to get credit to the creators of their time of how they brought imagination to the minds of kids of that era.👍
OMG, I remember this show....!! I loved it back then. I was 8 or 9.
Now I’m 65, haven’t seen, or thought about it since those days. 56 years ago now seems like yesterday
Thanks for posting this
'And though I'm not a spaceman, famous and reknown,I'm just a guy that's down to earth, with both feet on the ground,it's all imagination,I'll never reach the stars,my heart is still a fireball,a fireball, every time I look into your starry eyes!
Sure it may be just a model, but they put so much work into it with sound effects, that its just an awesome opening sequence. I loved this as a kid and could still watch this over and over. Thanks Mandar for posting
Goose bumps all the way..What a start still buzzin after 50 yrs..!!
My Dad was stationed in Singapore at RAF Seletar 1967-1969 and I loved this as an 8 year old boy....
When Britain was Great. Gerry Anderson made kids dreams come true
Yes but he theme tunes! My heart would be a fireball
And the sad thing is Jerry Anderson according to a documentary I just watched on him was actually ashamed of his creations as he wanted to be a serious film maker and only ended up doing puppet films to make money, it was only years later that he realised his unique creations, the guy was a genius, this theme tune fireball xl5 is pure magic, beats any song in the charts today, pure class!!!!
Julie Goodman have al ways
Julie Goodman can I get the name of that documentary?
Dave Ind ...make Great Britain great again! Just kidding. Make America watch this again! Make America Great Britain again! D-oh!
Just the most awesome theme song ever!
When I was a kid I had a fireball XL5 model rocket with the characters included great memories.
This is my childhood favourite series on TV, you brought such happy memories! Thanks a lot for this upload!
I remember watching this at the age of around 6 or 7 as my dad uses to watch it when he was a little boy and got the VHS. I'm now 26 and married. R. I. P Dad x xx x
That's a nice memory ˆ◡ˆ
Yes it indeed is. I always have this memory of my dad x
Emily yeahhh Memories like that are so precious; hope you get to pass them on to future generations. Sorry you lost your dad too soon.
Thank you Gerry and Sylvia Anderson for so many hours of entertainment - Fireball XL5, Stingray and Thunderbirds.
Super Car
Wow! This brings back all the old memories! I used to watch this during the early 70's on tv in India.
NBC showed this program in America as part of their Saturday Morning programming in 1963.
This is incredibly awesome! My Dad has always gone around the house singing this, great to hear it again after years without listening to the actual intro/theme to it.
This, Supercar, and Davy & Goliath were a weekend staple for me when I was between 4 and 8.
Wow I remember Davy and Goliath.
I used to wake up at like 6am Sunday mornings to watch D&G. Was not a religious guy though, so there was nothing to watch for hrs. afterward. (Before cable)
I and my brother watched this show every saturday morning, he got the Fireball xl5 rocket, and crew for Christmas in 1965.
In March, it will be the 50th anniversary of the 9.2 1964 Great Alaskan Earthquake. With very limited TV programming, this program was a favorite. It had just started when the quake started, so it is a poignant memory as everyone my age goes "I was watching Fireball XL5 when the quake started!" Thanks for putting this up.
I use to love THIS series.
It came on India's only television channel Doordarshan national network in 1987 / 88.
Thanks Mandar
It came on Indian TV way before that. I watched it in 1979
Not just filmed in Marionation but SUPERmarionation
This was shown on Indian Doordarshan channel, only channel available back then. It was late 1970s or early 1980s. This was my favourite back then.
My oldest son was 3 years old in 1962. He used to wake me up every Saturday morning to watch this with him. Those were the good old days.
I too remember it from when I was 4 years old and loved it! Love the theme song still and it's played in my head for over 50 years now. I had a large plastic toy of the XL5. The nose cone separated from the main rocket and little yellow plastic "scooters" could be snapped inside the nose cone through a door that slide open on the top. It was a GREAT toy!
William Longyard OMG, you had taht set to? That was my fav toy for years, have no idea what happened to it. The "interceptors" were springloaded in the missle bay doors that would open, and the "XL jr" would seperate. I Loved the small solid versions that would launch off the launch rail. Thje paper 'space city' was cool to. So much stuff. My dad would watch it with me sometimes, and I used to wonder why he laughed so much. I had a thng for Venus.
saburu sakai I also had the plastic Fireball. You could switch around the scooters, the red figure to the yellow scooter, and the yellow figure to the red scooter. Next door neighbors' Fireball got broken, so he deliberately dropped mine so that it wouldn't be better than his. True story!!
teenagerinsac
Oh htat's amazing. I'd have beat him over the head with it. The one I wound up wiht had been a return, and somebody had used white glue to attach the jr to the main ship. I didn't realize that, but my Dad did one day loking at it. I could sepearate the jr, but it would leave the back bulkhead on the shp. Once my Dad fixed it, It was much better. Wish I still had it.
William Longyard HEY! Don't forget about the little plastic human figures that came with it!
Yeah, I think it had soem figures made for another toy set of some sort, as many had no resemblance to anything in the series.
Wow, this show gives me goose bumps, takes me right back to the early 60's when I was a kid. Loved the guy singing the theme tune at the end, it is all very nostalgicstuff now. Thanks Gerry for all your great shows. r.i.p Mr Anderson.
Yes the mid sixties music and cars where very interesting, but now we can enjoy it +everything before and everything after, 2015 is good ! :)
I think the Internet is the cammer that we missed in the sixty that's why I find the now is great too, thanks Gary for the reply ! I watch those shows also when I was a kid ! Perhaps those theme from Gerry Anderson shows have partly created the musician I am today !
When single Indian TV channel used to show such platinum quality content from the UK...good old memories and such a lovely title song with fantastic voice
I am about to turn 66 years old and I awoke this morning in wonder. I was about 8 I guess when this show appeared in my life,.... I loved the theme song most of all and remember using the playroom couch cusion as a guitar as I would dance and sing when it came on/ The show disappeared from my life after one year but as you see..... it,s really still there !
I know I am old as I recollect this and stare back into memories 😊
We all know how you feel . 👍 🇬🇧 ! !
who is watching this video in 2019
me, best wishes x
Me! Real life XL5 just tested in Florida a few minutes ago! Starhopper
My childhood, fool. Looking back from today 18 Sep 2019. Huzzah! What did we look back on before nostalgia? Take care and have fun all.
noel dsouza ME 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Me. Had the random need to look it up. I watched it when I was 4 or 5 - 1971-72.
I actually remember when Fireball XL5 aired on ITV. It was released in 1962 but was shown in the region I lived in, TWW in 1963. I have such wonderful memories of that particular time of my life, I was 13 at the time.
Watched this continuously when a little tike, had too all the older kids in the family wouldn't let me watch the Terry Thomas show. Loved it though and the sound track resonates in my head today! Reminds me of cars with fins and all the hope that was in the world. My grandmother sending us post cards from Seattle Space Needle and just the feeling of greatness to come! And guess what we live in Australia! Shown there as well as Stingray, Thunderbirds and Joe90.
A show from the 60's has a better intro than most prime time television shows in 2021.... Just saying.
Greatest theme ever
Just Simple AMAZING . I'm 57 years . I was 10 at this time . I enjoyes a lot the XL5 . Very Great time . Congratulations !!!!!!!!!
This series was made in 1962 but here in the USA I THINK we got it a little later. In 1963, I was only 4 years old yet I remember this show like it was yesterday. Even today @ 59 years old I get a warm feeling inside when I watch the intro, the theme song or any of the episodes. ALL the Supermarionation series were wonderful. The attention to detail means that there was a HUMAN touch behind every little detail. Sorry but CGI simply CAN'T compare because the computer has NO soul. Watching these TV shows takes me back to my happy place!
