I still have Jiffy from when they made it years ago! I always loved it and made many blankets with it. The people I gave the blankets to, still have them and they still look great!
I've used the Big Twist Classic on a tricolor blanket for my daughter. It works up beautifully, but slow. Next time, I'll hold two together and up my hook size when doing a big project. Thx for this review, Kim! 😊👍🧶
This is what I was thinking, but then, do you want to sit on it with sweaty bare legs? Especially if they are also sunburned.... But the only other thing I could think of was buntings/streamers/banners and the like.
Hi Kim...thank you for the review. I really appreciate it. I hardly get out, usually i shop online. Also wanted to say hi, been watching your vids esp the store trips. Sorry I hardly comment but in here and mostly just lurk 🌳👀🌳on the lives. Sending lots and as always wishing you continued success on your channels. 💖💋🤘🧶
I'm in Massachusetts too. Maybe you can make an afghan or a smaller one for your lap. I think if I were to make a summer top it would have to be in cotton probably. Maybe you could make some pillows for your chairs. if you make a small blanket and you did some July 4 thing you could hang it up for a mural kind of thing then take it down to use as a blanket. Sometimes here it gets chilly at night on July 4th, I'm on the coast. Especially if it starts to rain. it's usually really chilly on Memorial Day so if you made it before that you could use it as a blanket then. I thought about a table covering but I would put some clear plastic type thing on top because you wouldn't want to get condiments like mustard on it.
I never liked yarns with a halo, so I didn’t like Jiffy waaay back in the day. But, $5.99 for the classic was great deal. Then last week I got an additional 25% off for buying online picking up in the store. You can’t beat that price, so I got a few. Thanks for the comparison Kim.
i used big twist for a blanket, mostly because of price. i will never use it again. it washes up terribly & gets very fuzzy. it really came off as cheap looking, which was sad after all the time i put into the project. if you're looking for that basic acrylic yarn, red heart is my go-to. i am a big fan of lion brand, but haven't tried the jiffy because of my experience with big twist.
Pineapple juice will soothe your throat; the enzymes are anti inflammatory. The first few sips may make you think of burning shards of glass, but after that you will not hurt for hours. I promise.
Has anyone seen Big Twist classic in stores lately? I need one more skein of it in the color Oatmeal to finish a sweater I'm nearly done with but I cant find it anywhere😭
General Question -- I don't have a lot of experience with #5 & #6 yarns. Usually I work with "thick #4". Wondering if there is a way to identify which will be more economical option when worked into blankets? (For example, the jiffy ball makes a larger sample, yet the big twist is less expensive... so when I'm making blankets for donation, I never know which yarn-weight might be the more affordable choice?)
Of these 2? Hmm.. jiffy has a high fizz factor, and is less wraps per inch (bigger size). Big twist is more wraps per inch (smaller size). I personally think jiffy is expensive. The big twist classic does have a lot if yardage. Of those 2 the classic. However, the vareigated classic has a LOT LESS yardage. If you are asking for other suggestions… cover story (WITH A GOOD COUPON) is a 6 weight with a lot of yardage. Also wanna make a blankie. These are chenille yarns.

Maybe you could crochet an American flag picnic throw & add a backing. That way you could use it for 4th of July fireworks ceremonies.

I love Big Twist for all the reasons you mention! The Jiffy is too fuzzy looking worked up.

I like your softness tester! LOL
🤣 thanks Christine
Thanks for the comparison review Kim.🤗
WIPs-you can do it on Fridays and call it “finish/frog it Friday” and show us your progress on the frogging or finished projects!!
Hmm I usually don’t do FO / WIP vids on my channel. I usually show my FO’s on Affordably Geeky. This will be my first wip video….
Big Twist is quality yarn.
❤

I realize this was a month ago but I didn't know you then.
That Jiffy yarn was doing the acrylic squeak as you were working it. Maybe it was the plastic hook?
Yeah, i wanted to use a metal hook, but my only 6.5 is in a project bag… somewhere 🙄
Thanks so much Kim for doing this review, because I was wondering. Have a great day, Kim!!!❤🤍💖
Thanks for the comparison. I like the look of the Big Twist finished product better than the Jiffy. Softer is always better!
Yes! 🙌🏻
Thanks Kim!
You are welcome Jolene
Big twist .
Off topic...Kim what hook are you using? It looks cute! I mean the 6mm with the dots
