This video covers the assembly of the major components of a cooler-based reptile egg incubator. The incubator was designed for tree python egg incubation but is adaptable to all reptile eggs. Make sure and subscribe to the channel to see future videos outlining the specifics of the incunbator operation. Make sure and watch in high quality too!

Thanks for the how-to! I'm building an incubator for a clutch of Burmballs due any day, and we are SO excited!! The one I'm building is an amalgamation of yours and several others, so I'm looking forward to seeing how well it works. Keep up the great work!! :)

I use a 12V transformer to run the fans... just your basic run-of-the-mill wall wart. You can buy them at Radio Shack, but I salvaged mine from some old appliances. Good luck!

There are a few reasons... the least of which are a relatively small market and logistics issues with parts suppliers. I just thought I'd share the idea for others who wish to build one for themselves.

It's been a while since I built the ones I use, but I think the incubator ran about $300 (including thermostat, air pump, heat element, shelving, pans, air lines, fans, electrical connections, cooler, and plexiglass).
I currently have a single ball python that I've had for about 15 years but I've never tried to breed the species. Normals X normals will make more normals. Thanks for the questions!

I actually used the cables I did because there wasn't anything else available at the time. The reptile cables came along later and will work so long as they don't have the in-built thermostat you mentioned in your question. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Do you just trust the temp on the thermostat, or do you put another thermometer in there?

I have several spider robotics thermostats but they're on my cages. I've never used them on the incubator. The helix basic units have never failed me so I've just continued using them.

How much would all this cost? Do you have to refill the water regularly cause of vapor? Have you ever bread ball Pythons before? If so, is it possible to get diff. morphs breeding a normal X normal?

I purposefully stayed away from flexwatt because it's difficult to seal. The interior of the incubator gets humid and trying to isolate the connections on the flexwatt... even with rubber silicone... is not foolproof. The heat cable is sealed so there's a lower likelihood of failure. The set-up will work fine for ball pythons but if you'd rather not use the water trays you'll have to incubate the eggs on vermiculite (or some other alternative) to maintain adequate moisture.

Is it possible to use plastic tubs that you can buy from Walmart instead of the polycarbonate container from carlisle foodservice products

Can this setup be ok with flexwatt heat tape instead of wire? Also, are the pans with water necessary for ball pythons eggs or other python eggs? thank you.

I saw another video where the dude filled the PVC frame with water and used that as his thermal mass. That would give you more room for egg boxes.

This is one great video.5*.Thank you so much making this video. How would I have to set it up for the Argentine Tegu eggs ? the same way or different ?

Hey Damon, would a standard reptile heat cable work in place of the frost cable? Like a 25w rated 4 metre cable from zoo med or whatever? I live in the uk and most frost cables seem to have an inbuilt thermostat, and obviously i want to avoid the issue of using a cable designed for the US in the UK (different pin connectors/US v UK voltage system etc). So was just wondering as you dont seem to use reptile designated cables, is there a reason for that? Thanks
