I just discovered this channel. I find that all of your reviewers are exceptional at communicating the technical features and ridability of the machines under a wide range of conditions. Thank you.
I’ve got this bike and absolutely love it. It’s more capable than I am. I love how quickly it can accelerate and how well it climbs. As a more conservative rider these factors mean I can keep up and actually most of the time lead whilst out on the trail. I’m a fan.
The new 2018 Trek Fuel EX 9.9 my friend has is one heck of a bike, it's a trail bike biased to XC and it's the best climbing bike I've ever ridden. It's not the mega dirt jumping bike but it's low weight saves you energy in the short and long terms. Comparing this bike to an older 2016 Trek Remedy, the Fuel is the faster bike overall, in just about everything I've tried. My 2018 Remedy 9.8 is still a good climber, but the Fuel EX does it better, whereas the Fuel EX descends well thanks to its 29 inch wheels, but the Remedy is a tad better and more stable despite being only 27.5 and a slightly longer wheelbase. If you spend a lot of time climbing or riding long distances, the Fuel EX 9.9 is the bike to have. It has better components than the Remedy 9.8 and is noticeably lighter thanks to an all carbon design. What people don't seem to notice as I did is, the Fuel EX 9.9's rear suspension is more active than the Remedy because the Fuel 9.9 has carbon chain/seatstays whereas the Remedy 9.8 is aluminum alloy. To me I had more traction on the rear wheel from the Fuel EX than the Remedy, something to test and/or think about. Less mass to move up and down equates to faster response, keeping the rear wheel in compliance with the ground. As far as the forks, the Fox 34 of the 9.9 IMHO outperformed the Rockshox of the Remedy. After setting both up to my weight and sag, the Fox 34 had better response on the smaller bumps and felt very predictable on controlled on the larger bumps. My Remedy's fork has 20 mm more travel but after setting it up properly, it felt too mushy on the smaller bumps and way too mushy when taking the big hits up front. So it's not as simple as saying more travel means that it's better, the characteristics of the fork damping IMHO matters more than how much travel it has. If you ask me, the Fuel EX 9.9 wins here. If you don't mind giving up just a little weight and climbing speed to have a more stable bike for descents, the Remedy is the bike for you. I'm 5'6 and 160 pounds using a Thomson Elite Covert 100mm dropper post as the only changes I've made to my 2018 Remedy 9.8 My friend's 5.7 and 200 pounds, using a stock 2018 Fuel EX 9.9 and he pulls away from me on the climbs, about a foot every 10 seconds. On the downhills, we're dead even on speed and I see no reason why the Fuel EX 9.9 can't compete against a stock Remedy 9.8 unless changes are made to the front fork (like tokens or via MRP ramp cartridge) to counter the stock mushy feel of the Rockshox.
Thanks for the explanation, That's the info I have been looking for the past 4 months of looking. I wanted a remedy but rode an Ex fuel 8 and it just felt fast. Now that they are only $2804 its either that or a Transition which ever I can grab.
@@MrAnimal1971 I weigh 205lbs and hit small drops and jumps on my ex8, so I ordered volume spacers for both front and rear, they don't come with any keep in mind. Also running 29x2.6 tubeless. Pretty capable bike
I fit a 150 dropper in my size 17.5 and it barely fit thankfully because of my longer than normal legs. For the vast majority, 125mm on the medium is the only option.
i've got a medium sized 2017 ex8 model, with stock 150mm dropper post on it, and it has to be all the way in seat tube for my 5'9" height. front travel issues solved with lyrik dual position 130/160mm :)
The fuel is a knockout. I think the plus size model is more versatile though because it comes with a 140mm fork instead. Slightly higher BB height and descends noticeably better.
Alex Brothers true dat, I converted my 2017 fex8+ to 29er and am slowly getting over the fear of impending pedal strikes, now the first thing I look at when looking evaluating a bike is BB Height.
I have a 2017 Trek Fuel 9.8 27.5+ and not enjoying it right now, way to many pedal strikes. Feeling like I’m going to have to upgrade wheels and tires to 29er. Which becomes a added expense I could have just bought a 29er from the beginning.
The comment about the dropper length is true. I'm 5'8" on the medium and if it had a 150mm dropper, the saddle would be too high for me. Trek knew what they were doing when they spec'd this bike
Great channel guys, I got mine for a bargain 4k 🇦🇺 in mint condition, it had 780 wide bars alloy and was a pig, put the original 720 wide carbon bars and it goes like a cut snake, so nimble and responsive way better, I'm not experienced but I don't think wide bars suit it can anyone help me out why, cheers 🥂
Great (trail) bike, I agree a bit pricey but the Fuel Ex 9.8 .... now there's a possibility! (don't tell the wife). I like a bike that's right for 90% of my ride (which is trails) and doesn't mind when you get a bit silly for the other 10%
I’m in the Uk Looking at a Ebike and I’m like flabbergasted at the prices Hell it a bicycle and a good one is £6000 My Ktm 250f enduro in 2010 was £5000 Shit I want one BUT HELL THEY ARE A RIPOFF Sorry but some one is making serious £$€

PeyVon Guess you have never ridden or have a motorcycle licence As get on a enduro motorcycle and the benefits are huge it’s seriously good for your cardiovascular and body strength.. And when you get good the rewards are without doubt the best adrenaline filled days of your life.. Cycling is all these too,as I do both.. Enduro & motocross are one of the most demanding sports in the world.. Ebikes are great fun but over priced sorry that’s a fact.
I dont like it , im not that kind of rider , im into dh racing and freeride im not sure id even want that bike for enduro , not to mention the price is ridiculous , trek is for people who want to waste more money on a bike to show they have, or look like they have lots of money, id destroy this bike, please do not use this bike ever for dh racing or enduro for your own sake

JNOTECH just for typing all that...I liked
Nice review 👍

150 mm Dropper fits fine on an 18.5 frame. Just installed it yesterday.
My BB to top of saddle height is 74.5 cm.
Please do a review on the “specialized s works fuse”!

Plus model BB comes down 1/2 inch even with 140 fork. Too many pedal strikes. Bump up the fork to 140 with a kit and run the 29s.

Can also go to 170 cranks. Do the research on that. It will not change your leverage that much seriously helps with pedal strikes from a 175 mm crank.

Nice ride. I’ve been very impressed with my 18 Trek Slash...running the same shock. Trek really putting some killer bikes out right now.
The comment about the dropper length is true. I'm 5'8" on the medium and if it had a 150mm dropper, the saddle would be too high for me. Trek knew what they were doing when they spec'd this bike
I’ve got a 9.8 with the same wheels as the 9.9 weighs 27lbs and makes it a great do anything bike the 140mm front is a game changer.
a 150mm dropper in size medium frame too high for me at 5'8.
Need smaller insertion dropper like the OneUp or smaller 125mm dropper.
I agree with Travis. This is an XC bike. Needs more Travel up front. OTB.
LMAO 8400$ I have a trek fuel 9.0 8 years old full suspension for 4500$ and paid 2600$ on clearance.
What i the top dropper post you would recommend?
Great review, sick bike, but yes a little pricey. I like the new format with the specs in the beginning.

I'm between this trek and a jeffsy 29er. For long rides(40 miles) with some step descends most of the trails are like xc intended. Any thoughts?
leonardoolivar fuck yt. Fuels are nasty.

$8900!!! You can get a 450 dirt bike for that.

Cost more than my motorcycle.

No comparison . The fun factors and health benefit is worth more ;) I would never want a motorcycle even it's free.
