Jao asked for 12k on KS because he claimed it was just enough to get started. Then after getting 530k and Patreons subs it's suddenly: "We made it DLC so it continues to fund the game's development. Video games are expensive to make you know?" Note: Currently 50% of the dragons planned are DLC or KS exclusives.
Although the game isn’t close being out from what I know, I’ve been keeping up with Wings of Dawn which looks much better and more reliable than Day of Dragons in my opinion. Definitely would recommend checking it out if you haven’t.
Wings of Dawn has no doubt the most transparent and open dev team. It is such a fresh feeling when you get to communicate with devs who feel genuine and have passion. Whenever I was in DoD livestreams Jao sounded like he didn't want to be there, like such a monotone and bothered voice. Whenever you are in WoD streams they actively interact with the chat and get hyped when you discuss about their game and things with them!
I’ve been replying to people saying this! The dev team is the friendliest i’ve ever seen and they already have amazing dragons/creatures (WAY better quality than DoD) as well as animations with an eighth of the funding DoD has. Im excited to see where it goes!
Finally a good, accurate, fair, and up-to-date critique on DoD. Most youtubers only praise it, or only regurgitate 4 year old info and use footage from the alpha which doesn't exist anymore, which instantly invalidates their criticism in the eyes of dod devs and stans. You clearly actually know what you're talking about and play the game which can't be said for a lot of the people making critical videos on it, even if what they're saying is correct, but misguided. Though it's understandable, because as you said, the devs don't make it easy to know what the hell is going on. Well done!
Contrary to popular belief, a good amount of that old info is still very accurate to current times, though most people bring it up because Jao actually claims NONE of that stuff from years ago actually happened, its now "UA-camr Propaganda". Ignoring that though Jao is still an egotistical prick that is constantly praising his own game like a toddler, the game itself still has very basic gameplay that people could recreate within a few months if they properly applied themselves, etc etc. The unfortunate fact of the matter is that with how little is ACTUALLY changing with the 1.0 update the game likely will reach a new high peak from the past few years and then die out over the course of a few months, new characters mean nothing when they are just copy/pastes of the others with more cosmetic changes than mechanical. Also I would just like to mention that ALL three of the maps in the trailer are storebought, premade MAWI maps that you can buy online, really does bring up amazing expectations like the KS did! Do with that what information you want.
The major red flags that first popped up for me years back during KS campaign was constant hesitation Jao had with basic questions about the development of his game. If you read the very first KS campaign post Jao talks as if he had a team of people working on the game with him for 2 years. He then back peddled and shameless said he was actually a solo dev and only messed around with UE4 during that time because he was still learning and very new to it. 530k and whatever Patreons gave later, he still refuses to hire an additional coder because "they might steal his codes". He also bragged about spending 50k on music (16 songs costing roughly $8300 each) then has the nerve to tell us "video games are expensive to make" when people confronted him about DLCs for an EA game being greedy. You forgot to mention about the plushies that are being made for Patreons. A pointless merch to overhype a mediocre game.
Yeah if you read the patreon the $200 usd goal they have has an "optional plushie" they're basically that mascot horror game with huggy wuggy. They dont care about the game at all. They just did all this so they could sell merch and dlc
@@Meousepie17I suppose Jao is in the deluional state that his game is in par with triple A games, and is large enough to hype up with merch. I appreciate you sharing your opinions in this video. :)
At the risk of starting a fire in the comment section, this is a great video and I think it showcases that the problems Day of Dragons has are identical to the ones The Isle had before Beasts of Bermuda and Path of Titans came along to offer some competition. It's the biggest name in its genre despite the lack of polish and professionalism, its developers are locked into their vision and don't want to hear any voices that say their game could use more time to cook, and the large majority of the community will take whatever the devs dish out and even fiercely defend what probably shouldn't be defended because there just aren't any other options. The only way this gets better is for someone to come along to really challenge the team to step it up and do better. Keep one eye on Draconia, The Wings of Dawn, and the as-yet-unnamed Dragon Game Project. They've been going for a bit now and show some promise.
i wouldn't compare day of dragons to the isle.... the isle was the first of its kind, day of dragons is just an unimaginative ripoff with more dragons and less atmosphere
@@umbrasyl The Isle rips off Jurassic Park. Utah/omni, rex, and spino are all JP dinos, the utah/omni even has the same call as the velociraptors in JP3
TBH I'd go as far as saying that The Isle still thinks it's the biggest name in the dino sim genre, with all the same issues now as DoD. Slow, lackluster, buggy updates that break the game, slow action from the devs to roll out hotfixes, devs openly talking shit about their own playerbase in streams, devs ignoring the feedback channels in the discord and shutting down any criticism by talking down to the person giving the critique or just kicking them out of the discord (but not before publicly humiliating them in isle-discussion, and since the official discord is set to auto-delete all messages from any person who gets kicked, anyone reading can only see what *the devs* said about the person, they can't see what the person themselves said, making it one-sided and skewing the perception of the person who got kicked). Not to mention the army of bootlickers in there who will dogpile anyone with valid critique of the game with "IT'S EARLY ACCESS, JUST TRUST THE DEVS, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW HOW HARD GAME DEVELOPMENT IS, YOU'RE JUST MAD YOU'RE NOT GOOD AT THE GAME". They think they have a captive audience and can do this stuff because "we're the best dino game, there is no other game like ours", when......there are at least two just-as-good-if-not-better dino sim games out now that don't have NEARLY as many problems as Isle does
@@Sarah_HIt's crazy how they even made their OWN unique calls for the Utahraptor (that were super badass in my opinion) back when evrima first released, and then backtracked towards legacy and replaced them with the same calls. Despite this, Jurassic Park doesn't own dinosaurs. Unless they were directly ripping off or straight up stealing models from the game it's not exactly wrong for them to have the rex, spinosaurus, etc.
@@estevan764 "Jurassic Park doesn't own dinosaurs." I mean duh, but their portrayals of those three dinosaurs are unique enough for someone to see them and know immediately what media they're from. And Isle's omniraptor, rex, and spino are using those JP designs
Thank you for posting and speaking about this, even with the risk of being Blacklisted. So many creators on UA-cam are pretending like nothing happened and many followers are blindly following the support of the game with no awareness of the truth of the unmoral building blocks of this game. I’m tired of people not educating themselves on the very thing they are supporting, it’s sorrowful seeing how many people don’t care.
I have no clue why this video ended up on my Suggested Feed as I haven't watched DoD content in over a year, but I am glad I clicked on it. You go over very well what has been happening with the development of the game, I was an early backer and at the time really believed in the vision that Jao was selling everyone. Hell, if you've seen videos from 4y ago about the suspected scam/fraud drama you probably saw a google doc going around with the summary of the first Q&A session that he hosted on the Discord, I'm the one who wrote it as a way for people who couldn't join to know what was being discussed :') then got ran through the mud by some random UA-camrs I had never spoken with for how/what I wrote, but I digress. It is very sad to see how little the game has grown in all these years, I sincerely expected more. I started with an amazing motivation and being involved in the community and playing the early versions of the game despite its bare bone level, but now all I can feel is sadness when the Kickstarter updates roll into my inbox because what's the point. Whatever dream was promised will either never come to fruition or be behind a paywall that challenge's Ubisofts greed.
I'm so sorry you had to deal with all that. You believed in something and got the short stick for it, which is so unbelievable unfair. As someone who loves creating things and dreams of making games and entertainment I can't fathom how Jao could be so cold and backhanded to the people that made his game possible. I did know about that document, I haven't seen it myself but I don't see why you'd get dragged through the mud for simply making a summary of what was said by the devs themselves. Even now there's so much controversy and shade surrounding this game and the behavior of the dev team. And we all know at this point that the 3-4 youtubers that have been consistently making videos on the game since 2019 will never say anything bad about the game and will stand by the devs no matter how malicious they're being to their backers because we all saw what happened to IGP. I truly hope someday I can make my own dragon game that will be what all the backers of day of dragons deserved to get from day of dragons. The amount of horror stories in the reviews of the game on steam is appalling and just so heartbreaking to see. You and people like you should not have been treated the way you were. Jao should be eternally grateful to the people who made his game possible especially with his behavior and his teams behavior being so suspicious. He should have lost support as soon as things got weird with the asset flipping and all the controversy but people continued to support him anyway and that alone should have pushed him to deliver what he promised and more.
It's literally insane to me how Jao doesn't seem to understand or appreciate how lucky he is to be in the position he's in. He can continually spit in the face of his supporters and they stay because right now DoD is the only dragon game on the market (for now). He is so incredibly lucky to have this amount of support and attention as an indie game and he's just pissing it away. As soon as WoD comes out or literally any dragon game that tries even a little bit, DoD is done for. This "1.0" that isn't even the finished product is clearly a last-ditch effort to rake in cash since everyone with the game wishlisted will be emailed about it. He jumped the gun releasing that trailer despite having 2 months left to polish it. They are failing, and they're desperate. They did this to themselves. The Day Before Dragons, truly.
I just wanted to thank you for your comments, I noticed you were helping me with damage control and keeping the trolls at bay and it honestly means a lot. So I wanted to let you know that I saw you and to thank you more formally for sticking up for me and being so kind.
@@Meousepie17 No problem :D I was following up with the comments because your video opened a very interesting and civil (until that one guy) space for the discussion and sharing of opinions.
you hit the nail on the head. This is something made at one person's own pace and his pace only. Everyone is hoping so hard to this game to be a thing when the main developer doesn't want another coder on the team to help him make this game better than what it has been for 5 years. which is nothing really. Even with the new update there's still only nesting to do. Just a different map really. It will be many months, possibly another year before even the promised stuff for just 1.0 even gets released
Day of Dragons "devs" have pulled the biggest scam ive ever seen in the animal survival genre that just keeps dangling a juicy carrot (dragons) in front of the ass (us). I honestly admire their ability to keep up with the deceit for so long.... two hundred for a piss skin....my brother in christ
A skin that is LITERALLY setting the color to yellow and then setting Metallic to 1, so much effort for a $200 skin! Also they are pushing it to be a Pearl only skin that you can only get through Patreon so anyone that is spending hundreds of hours nesting it now wont be able to later when the update hits! :D Honestly shocked people aren't bringing that point up yet really.
I was considering getting DOD this Christmas, a lot of time had passed since I last saw accusations of scamming used against the game devs. After I saw the trailer however I immediately changed my mind. The editing, the dragons, the transitions from one scene to another. It all felt like some RPG cutscene or those cringy advertisements of games on the app store.
I was excited for this game when I saw anthomnia make a video featuring it, the very first time around, I went through all the drama that was to unfold after, and really it's became pretty clear to me that the game was a scam. scam /skam/ noun a dishonest scheme; a fraud. This was exactly that ^ from the beginning. People were promised assets, animations; quality. They never received. Even their custom made dragons, as you put, are HEAVILY referenced and it appears DoD has some problems having their own creativity. Sooo disappointing. Thanks for the video!
not to mention that many animations of those costume made dragons are clunky and not nice to look at. Like the broken tail of the acidspitter and the shadowscale
I remember Anth also talked a lot about the lead dev or someone else threatening him and his dog, I’m still not 100% how truthful or accurate this stuff is cuz it came out so long ago. But i was reaaaaally pissed off about it and i basically swore to myself that if i ever consumed any media of this game, it would be incredibly small and I’d be 100% honest with myself about how i felt about this. As a game, without any drama, i don’t really mind it. But adding all the drama, i think we could probably just chuck the whole thing in the trash haha
I didn't hear about this game until after Anthomnia's first video on it and a year or two after I unsubscribed from him. Luckily the some of the most harsh critique/journalism videos had come out by then, and I'm so glad some of my favourite animal survival game UA-camrs were more honest (and restrained) in their statements on the game. Cause the idea is good! I think many has had the itch for this type of game with dragons/mythological creature after the dinosaur survival game sub-genre started kicking off. Day of Dragons is a proof of concept at best, a good jumping off point for future games, and unfortunately still seemingly a scam, by intent or not. But then again, a game like what DoD intended to be, and tries to be, is not the kind of game you debut a creative career with. Let alone a game dev one!
Anthomnia has gotten a lot of critique because he originally pulled his own Isla Nycta servers and cut off DoD content entirely because he was being harassed and receiving death over it. Now that DoD is suddenly announcing that it is doing a full release Anthomnia "suddenly is back" in the game that he put down so much for being toxic and abusive.
I unsubscribed as well, and honestly I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one! I thought so many people would continuously blindly follow Anth and his support for the game, even after everything with the threats and the blatant scam as a whole. He very well knows about the history of this game and he continues to support it. Terrible, just terrible.
I recall when I said the shadowscale looked like Toothless in the DoD Discord, more than a few people started a dense argument against me that the shadowscale was in fact a very creative dragon design with no link to Toothless at all.
Don't even get started on the holiday stream, it was an absolute wreck. Completely disorganized and a lack of communication. Yes, they were giving out prizes but even despite that I felt those 3-4hrs were a waste of time. If anyone had access to or knew someone who was part of the patreon then nothing in that stream was particularly interesting. I'm super disappointed in this game. Everyone just wants a fun interactive game that isn't painful or annoying. Yet, we aren't getting it.
this is why i am waiting for wings of dawn to release! an actual game with actual devs that care about their community! not just a money grab they can shut down any second they want!
Honestly if you ever have the time and inclination it may be actually worth trying to make your own dragon game. May have been a throwaway statement here but the DoD lead had zero experience or crew when he started (hence all the bought assets and copy paste code)- even though you won't have the upfront money DoD's lucky crowdfund timing granted it you have just as much of a chance of eventually ending up with something people will enjoy, especially if you learn from their mistakes.
To be honest with you, I very much do want to make a game. It was a bit of a throwaway statement originally because I simply have no experience and don't know where to start but after reading some of these comments and talking to some people I might actually be in the works of developing a game now.
The reason why Brood Watcher was not featured in the trailer is because it is not finished yet. It only entered dev-only testing earlier this past month or so according to some Patreon test server. It is rather confusing because the Fire Elemental was featured and that thing barely works, so it is very strange that they didn't include BW that has bare minimum implemented.
If its barely even been worked on then why are the promising it'll come out in February 1.0 release? They arent organized. They need to be focusing on the things they keep saying they're releasing soon instead of working on all the new dragons things all at once.
@@Meousepie17 It will be ready those of us who have helped test the dragons know roughly how long it takes to be ready and after actually using it the brood watcher isn't far off being done
@@The_Rendom_Cat It's not done yet... A lot of her animations look good but a lot have her sliding around the place. They likely did this trailer a while ago too and she would have had even less work done then
@@Monarch_Mal you make valid points but I stand by what I said. The thing is that even if the creature is pretty bare bones and isnt ready to be played as yet, as long as it has a texture and is rigged anyone with basic 3d animation skills can make it do what they want in programs like blender which they definitely did for a few of the scenes in the trailer already. It would have taken maybe a couple more weeks just to add a simple animation of the brood watcher even in the background just chillin. You are of course entitled to your opinion though as am I. Maybe you still disagree with me, and that's okay too :)
imagine asking for 14k, getting more than 25x that amount, and still asking for more outrageous amounts of money for basic features instead of actually fisinhing the game to me this game was supposed to be a scam (the guy literally had nothing to show at the start, no game, no previous experience and his "anonymous" team of devs) but got blown out of proportion to the point he couldn't just vanish with the money and felt pressured to actually do something
Me watching the trailer seeing the Fire Elemental deciding to redownload the game thinking I can finally play as it just to be slapped in the face with the exact same game 🤣
I regret having this game in my steam library. I got it as a gift from a family member because they know I like dragons a lot. Money lost by me I can live with, but it feels especially bitter when its money lost by someone I love, because they didnt know better.
With everything discussed in the video I wholeheartedly agree with everything you’ve stated in the video. I bought the game in anticipation for the update in December and to play the test branch session which I couldn’t play so as a result I never tried the game. I can assure you all everything discussed in this video is very noticeable even on a micro-level for players like myself who don’t play the game and don’t watch many if any informative videos on the game, by just watching the trailer alone. I think people should genuinely check out the Wings of Dawn project because they have a exceptional dev team. They’re making progress at a exceptional rate, great team synergy, transparency and communication, vision and leadership, talent. Although their still a indie development studio so they’re still rough around the edges. They’re the most promising game studio in the market right now in this genre from what I’ve witnessed in this sector of the industry specifically. The one thing a lot of these games lack for me personally where I don’t feel inclined to invest any money is *security* even with Wings Of Dawn and their promising studio.
I pointed out how their dragon designs were clear rip-offs and mods deleted my messeges. They think people are stupid and they a scared of facing reality. No one should ever give money to these hacks
Accurate review. The game isn't a scam, but is terribly mishandled. The assets they are using for the new map (trees, ect) are from the store and not custom, so it doesn't even fit the artistic design of the dragons and looks out of place. Everything is too muted in color and looks cheap. The dragons still have no crash animation. The other content creators either suck up to Jao and never say anything bad or else still scream that the game in a scam from old info - like, the game is bad enough as it is that you don't need to lie about it. It's not a scam, but Jao has no idea what he's doing and mishandled the money (he spent over 10k on music instead of custom enviromental assets!!). Then I was a $100+ kickstarter backer (got white skin which was supposed to be rare, but they kept opening up the skins so its not rare anymore) and they wanted me to pay more to get access to the bio dragon.
People say that the term "Scam" has become very vague lately but going off the literal definition "a dishonest scheme; a fraud" you can argue it is a scam, the Steam page mentions content that doesn't exist yet, the new trailer is showing asset store maps that likely wont reflect the custom maps, the genre is changing from Creature Survival to MMO, etc etc. They may have released a product but so have other games like The Stomping Lands and The Day Before that then rug pulled and disappeared, but of course Stomping Lands came back! So would it not be a scam just because they came back to supposedly keep working on it? DoD may be showing progress but reality of it is they are showing the bare minimum REQUIRED progress you need to actually make a game instead of anything even moderately high effort and filling the game with microtransactions to constantly get bought will get them more money than the initial $500k+ jump KS gave. Despite all the progress being shown they can still very well just abandon the game once they get more micros in so that they can constantly rake in cash.
it always looked to me, like it was a scam that the dev (who very obviously lacks dev experience to this day) realised he could make even more money off of by milking it and doing the bare minimum of development. i'm glad to realise i'm not the only one with similar thoughts lol if people want some dragon games to follow, i didnt see anyone mention (from my admittedly brief scroll) in these comments DGP or the dragon game project, it looks like a promising team vs team game and with some pretty sweet flying animations. More than just dragons too i got Glyde the Dragon on my steam wishlist too, which is supposed to be spyro-like, though i don't follow the actual development of it. some people might recommend Draconia, but personally that game looks like a bit of a scam too, or at least it's not supposed to be an actual video game more than an OC painter. i don't think that game's devs have any experience with dev'ing either oh yeah, and Golden Treasure: The Great Green (visual novel game) has an upcoming sequel, thats a good game 10/10 i recommend i wish i could expand my list of 'upcoming dragon games worthy of being kept track of', but good ones seem to be hard to find :V i recently discovered a russian minecraft modpack about roleplaying as dragons that looks better than some almost completed [cough] games...
I am playing the game because i love dragons and it’s literally the best dragon game out there even tho its bad. I only know one other promising dragon game and its not even in beta yet so no one can play it. Theres also draconia which has even less than dod is.
Tbh, i love the game- its FUN, but it has so many flaws; one of the bigger ones being the community, its such a gamble if youll have a good experince or bad. On the trailer i commented one of the biggest flaws i saw with the game, which is the flying macanic, once you spend 4 or 5 hours figuring it out sure its fun, but its a game based on flying creatures, why does it take that long to learn how to fly properly? I had to change so amy keybinds and had to get a friend to coach me through it before i finally got it. Even so, i didnt say i didnt enjoy the game. I STILL got people replying that "nobody wants to hear your innability to press a couple keys", ect.
Still boggles me people praise the game for being the most realistic flight in a creature sim while it also lacks any tight turning maneuvers or crash landing mechanics. It's pretty obvious Jao glued codes meant for aeroplanes with the controls and lack of rough landing systems. The camera and character just spazz out, like originally you're meant to exsplode but don't because you're a Dragon lol
Really hoping they make a proper trailer closer to release that isn't just fan service. Also a point you missed regarding how slow everything is is that the lead developer insists on being the only coder for the game which is just unheard of for a big project like this. It's the most absurd thing. I also have concerns about the questionable quality of the herbivore design in the game. The only two dedicated herbivores I know of are the Biolumin and the Broodwatcher, but the Biolumen is noncombative, and the Broodwatcher is a grazer that can fill its stomach anywhere there is grass which is basically everywhere on the current and in progress remake version of the current map. This isn't bad on its own but there isn't an option for more typical herbivore gameplay that both promote the player to wander while defending themselves and their herd. The kind of herbivore gameplay that players tend to like. It's also important to have that kind of big, mobile creature because it also encourages the predator players to move around as well rather than just camping ai. Ideally there should be at least two options like this with their own specialized diet that is found in its own range, even with a little overlap.
I think if they even threw together clips from UA-camrs they’re partnered with and explained the new upcoming features, dragons, & environments that it would have been better than what they put out for the trailer. Love the dragons, but definitely a big oof
i backed this game during the kickstarter and did have some fun in a big clan on one of the official servers but it was all just skin crafting and nesting for stats, there was nothing to do, dispite having he game for a few years now iv only got 250 hours in the game compared to others that i play a LOT more. I agree the the content creators are kindof being used to gain and keep player in there shitty game, i did at one point get an inside look at the game and ill say thats when i gave up supporting this game... they wernt just f***ing over all us players who spent money on this game but also thereown dev team, i new someone who was working on a map that looked awesome and had done soo much work on it just for it to get thown away... They have no intrest in delivering a good game for there comunity or intend of making players happy by forfilling good ideas that they have, im done with this game and i might play it when the 1.0 update comes out just to see how much it has changed but with how much time has passed since i have left this game im discusted whit what they have done with everything... Because im a dragon guru and cant get my full of dragons from this shite game now, i support some other dragon games that are very promising and have much nicer and less contriversal devs leading them, and there communitys are just lovely, many players like myself just looking for a good dragon game but were shat on by DoD, if you wanna know what these games are they are Draconia and the Wings of Dawn, they are both very promising and i can't wait to see where they go, im just sad that they all have to work in the shadow of DoD but they have my support
I only half kept up with the game when it first started, because like everyone else remotely interested in this game, I love dragons. The drama was massive from what I can remember and then it just... disappeared? Again, I didn't really keep up with it (I try not to keep up with games that are still in development, in case of disappointment) but this was so suspicious to me. I also really hated that they bought models instead of creating their own, because there is so much opportunity for unique designs (like it's DRAGONS?!?) and it was such a waste of the money gifted to them. It is a shame, but I hope the next dragon game learns it lesson from this one.
You might be right. I did think they had more than just the solid blue as well but just assumed it was iconic since all the other dragons (besides the flame stalker) are iconic. Youd think I'd know since I've played the game so much lol
The skin SS has now is the very first skin they made for it, it may not be listed as iconic but it was their low effort first skin when they first started showing off the model.
Just the fact that they had that budget so far over the original goal, and are still asking for people to pay for DLC, as if we do not understand that companies make DLC usually _for more money.._ They *knew* that dragon games are in high demand, people would throw money at just about any game that offers dragons, especially one where you can PLAY as dragons.. Even if the game doesn't turn out to be a scam and ends up being a good game, the way the team handled their launch and the backlash they got will forever taint this game in my mind.
Jao still hasnt learned his lesson and his "welcoming" discord regularly bans people for actually no reason. the "game" is a shell. thats it. the dev team hasnt learned. the cult following is a mess. things have gotten worse instead of better
Personally i dont care for day of dragons anymore, a few of the designs just feel like blatant rip offs (singe crest, shadow scale, hybrid) and i was hoping for smth original The trailer is just disappointing, bio straight up looks like plastic and doesn't fit in at all with other dragons 💀 this game just generally sucks and gets so incredibly boring so quick. I wish i could refund but i got too many hours into it now
Singe crest looks obviously like the banshees from avatar Hybrid is like stormcutter from httyd Shadow scale is basically a nightfury its just I wanted a original game or something like that, at least with draconia u got some basic dragons but the designs they have r original and they got original maps, original lore and a magic system for a rpg style game Day of dragons is disappointing
I think I figured why the Bio looks so out of place, in one of the test maps you can get a close up look of most of their dragon models, including the bio and ice wyvern. When you look very close to their scales, it's like it's covered in a varnish which makes them look super glossy in the right light. Maybe for the trailer they took it off so they didn't look constantly wet? This is just my assumption though, I could be entirely wrong.
PLEASE the Dollar Store Toothless even has the blue light powerup LOLOL The decision to primarily showcase DLC and Kickstarter Exclusive dragons in the trailer is an interesting and dishonest one. I'd heard that development on this game was picking up again and going better, but with the trailer focusing on assets that are locked behind a paywall...yikes. Hopes dashed once again
girl refund the game is obviously a scam i myself play the game and i immediately said to myself that is a scam i also make prototypes as a hobby and the greatest red flag for a survivor game is that they dont know what the game is about and only focus on microtransactions
Ngl, if I knew game development on the level of a triple A studio, I would make my own version of "DoD". A 1-man development team. Something like how DK of Phasmophobia started the game's life by himself, and a year or so later had new people in the dev team working. A designer for the items and an audio engineer(?). If it were me who made the game in an alternate timeline, the game would have had probably 8 dragons available from the start then add like 3 DLC packs with 8 new dragons each pack, all the animations needed for them, special skins you wouldn't be able to get without the DLC pack, and each DLC pack to have 2 new maps that are original. Each similar sized, however, each having unique layout. Now that would be prob more than enough for the current price the game has. As for the DLC packs, each costing 8 dollars. As for new dragons that would be added, I'd charge 2 dollars per dragon with full animations unlocked instead of buying off the DLC that gives the animations separately. Then there's skins the other dragons would share between each, Leuc/Leum/Mela as examples. I'd have those shared skins unlocked through growth and nesting people. The many more dragons you grow/nest, the sooner you'll unlock one skin. I have answers to your questions about the Brood Watcher and Blitz Striker. They're not finished yet. Blitz Striker is about 80% finished, the Brood Watcher is missing audio of the calls and its progress is about the same as Blitz. The Elemental is almost finished and it got featured. There's 2 AIs left to complete, then there's the rest which are in-game mechanics that are still behind in development. This might be off as I'm taking info and summing it up from the Trello page. They may forget to update when some new feature is completed.
Yeah it was just weird to me because I did see videos saying the brood watcher doesnt have audio but its animations are done and yet some people were telling me that the brood watcher was nowhere near done and that's why. Others have said that the elemental was less done than the brood watcher etc. I'm not saying you're wrong in any way at all, and I'm definitely not saying I'm right, theres just a lot of different versions of the story it seems. On the game side of things- you have some great ideas, and I agree with a lot of that. I do completely understand that games are expensive to make and sometimes dlcs are needed to help fund the game. It was just odd to me that with what they earned from the kickstarter and their patreon and also the cost of the game itself that they'd even consider an early access dlc, seems a little absurd. But I digress, it can be done with one developer, it's a lot of work and not easy but it can be done and kudos to the people who have done it! But it's also important to know when you've gotten over your head and need help, phasmophobia is a good example of that as you mentioned. It's crazy how many different skills are needed to make a game!
First, the shadow scales were created from swallows. Then it was modified and improved. Two. Your ss const is elder(normally you were an adult before became elder, unless you hacked) , in the trailer the shadow scales are adult. In the trailer there are many skins, iconic/random skin is still a skin, and there was the leuc for the FS. Kickstarter skins, yes it's that by nest we could have leuc, Crimson, Gold ect but that's what makes the pleasure of having this skin or having a mix! I respect your choice, your opinion, I agree with you for the dragons(bliz) or even like the nest of the shadow scales that are not there. But hide the bliz can surprise the new player! There are some things I agree with you about. And others where I'm against it. For those who aren't kickstarter and who are starting a server can ask a kickstarter for help (it has already been done) . If they don't find à kickstarter that's bc they don't go in servers(there's a lots of kickstarter) or official discord. Sorry if I made spelling mistakes, if I misunderstood things, (I'm French)
tbh. i think the biggest thing that makes me dislike this game is it doesn't have its own identity. most of the dragon concepts are based off of popular dragons in movies. the models don't seem to have a particular ruleset for how they are styled. so we get a dragon like biolumen(looks cartoonish compared to the somewhat realistic textures on the other dragons). i only backed the game because I had friends that wanted me to play the finished product with them. well, its been available to play and none of us are playing it. I also really dislike the breeding up to better stats system. it requires interacting on a frequent basis with other players... i don't have much interest in that. there are many many other games to play. so im not too hurt over this one not being to my taste. just how it goes.
I find PvP undesirable for many reasons including the breeding system. The idea of breedable stats happened after the KS. Not what use solo players backed for.
Draconia is another dragon game and they are doing far more with far less money. Only problem is Day of Dragons gets all the attention so few people play Draconia except when new content comes out now. Wish that would change cause they have really neat dragons, non-dragons, and even lizard people you can play as.
The blacklisting and controversy is what made me take it off my wishlist. There are other cool dragon games I'd rather throw my money at than this shady dev company. I can't code and I could make a better game.
Sounds like they don't have a project manager. Their job is to snugb that shit out when a dev says wouldn't it be cool if..and put them back on the tasks needed to be completed. Lol what a mixed bag. Thanks for letting me know about this project.
fully agree with you 1000%, i believe we all have been scammed from these Devs and it is disgusting how they are containing to sell this game and take money
I forgot i owned this game tbh, had fun times and laughs with random people, someone would randomly get clobbered by that giant sandworm, good times, after the removal of the desert map whenever that even was, (I swear I remember it just being gone) i just kind of stopped playing
I agree on alot of your points, this game has many patrons helping fund it no matter the tier you have. The DLC's being a thing feels bogus since the game is not even completed it just has a fanmade map? thing? that was made to throw out for the 1.0 update and it did have some bugs upon release (besides the in-game edible bugs *not enough food to sustain many players* but bugs/glitches that previously existed in Legacy still exist in the new update as of 2/25/2024. So, with all this money and support, you would think there would be alot more to this game. I agree, many just want a dragon game, and it feels like a pity game at this point. Just someone who is taking their time doing this game as a fun hobby thing and not taking it seriously. Not that he has to, it's clearly a passion project but, all these players will need a buttload of patience as there's only 1 coder on the team and things will only get fixed/done at the devs pace not corporate. The kick-starters, I feel you but, I think having an irl jacket to help promote the game and show that your a kick-starter backer would be so much cooler than shiny cosmetics in-game, a whole dragon, along with 5+ skins to show off/ breed with of your choosing (which causes in game chat fights because *exclusivity* and not wanting to share). This is just my opinion as well. Also, yes! there's only about 300-400 players that come on a day to play if that says anything about the game at all well, your choice if you chose to "pay to play" so to speak for a game coming well, whenever or never, you decide.
ya I do agree with most everything here , while playing the game ( as a 3 day year old player now ) 'oh wow that skin looks cool ' ' oh that skin is made from this and that skin? ' ' oh thats pretty / cool ' - " MUST be backer / Patron '. Has been the small gripe i've had and kept me away from this game - ye I get it you have a chance to unlock the skin or dragon - but alright you do pvp you get killed welp that dragon is locked to you again(?) time to wait for rng to find another nest.
the fact that DLC's even exist in a game that costs $26 is disgusting, the game is obviously a scam and there is zero hope for it, I don't know how anyone could play this game let alone support it and it's developers.
From what I've seen it isn't a scam, but those handling this project have been very unprofessional if not downright incompetent so it wasn't hard to make that assumption. We paid for a burger, we are getting a burger, but the cook ain't wearing a hairnet.
My problem with skins is that they don’t make sense. I would have made skins that are akin to how the dragon hunts. Why tf is the iconic skin for an SS light blue? It's a nocturnal hunter that uses camouflage to abush it's prey, why not make it purple, dark blue, or just black? (Even though yes, it would literally be toothless, it would make the most sense evolutionary wise.) Even then, a more Bat like design would have fit the SS better than a night fury knock off. Ugh, there's so many things i would fix about it
Obviously you've never played that game, If you had, you wouldn't be saying that. I call that thing "game" loosely. It's a load of crap that's basically a giant clique chatroom for people that won't talk to you unless you're already sucking off the devs
@@CulpFox You are complaining about a test build, it is bare bones and developers are transparent about it, But I must say that Wings of Dawn has way better start than Day of Dragons ever did. They barely get any funding except from their Patreon and they have done almost more solid work in 2 years than what Day of Dragons has done in 3+ years.
@@CulpFox DoD fans hating on a game that's already showing more promise and commitment than DoD ever has. DoD hasn't even got proper crash landing animations/mechanics, and yet praises itself up the ass for being "the most realistic flight sim" out there. While WoD with the fraction of the budget has more mechanics like head pivot in flight. The player looks with their head as the camera tracks behind the head making you "look" rather than pivot a camera around a static character. It's a tiny detail but it's so satisfying. WoD also have a WIP crash animations and mechanics in testing. Only reason DoD is slipping with its quality is because Jao is the only coder who for some bizarre reason has to be the only coder no matter what. Its sus.
You sound like a very passionate Day of Dragons player who wants the best for the game. Unfortunately you picked a very tough game to support. Yeah it might not be a scam but the people in charge are scummy and I can't bring myself to support a game like that. There are also other dragon games out there that look more promising and less controversial.
Maybe it is.. to be honest, I had watched another video where they made a point about that sound and my brain went "yeeaaah that's a utah raptor not a dragon!" And so I made the point in my video but then after uploading it I realized that it might actually be the ss chat sound, though its not as obviously a Utah raptor in the game, it's different somehow so I didnt pick up on it even after all my time in the game.
@@CulpFox Where can I apply to get paid to hate games :O sounds like a fun change of pace and a great way to make up for having backed up the DoD Kickstarter
I dont really care about if its a scam or not, its still a good game, and game development is hard and expensive. Edit: 5:27 the shadow scale does make these sounds in the game when you type in chat
That would actually be super cool. I'm not the greatest artist but I've got some concepts for dragons and I have many many ideas. Now we just need a programmer
@@Meousepie17I 100% support you both if you chose to make a dragon game. We need more games made by other gamers that actually have the drive and desire to create without the greed as well as understand how to treat their support base and take consideration of feedback, because we all want the game to thrive. I think when games are made by people that really just wanna make games for the passion and art of it, games that they themselves would want to play, those games are bound to be massively successful. If you guys put together a decent concept and actually started developing, I'd definitely back you, given I have the funds at the time, lol. Dragons have always been my favorite and I remember wishing there were more dragon oriented games as a kid. I wold love to see some more competition in the dragon survival game department. 😁
@@degeneratecringelord Or deleting negative comments. That is also one thing that has happened over the years and I wouldn't be surprised if they were still doing it. Very likely are considering that they delete negative things over Steam.

@@enflameddrago6783 I love dragons personally, have since I was a kid! You're very kind for offering to support me! The link is up now :) I'll have to post more about dinos and dragons

Oof some of those assumptions. And because dlcs can be played by ANYONE by getting nested in. A core function in the game is nesting I dont see a problem unless you are to anti social to say something in global. Which is then a personal problem. With all games, devs are working on different things as they are hired for said things. No game company will let its employees twiddle their thumbs while waiting for everything in one update to be done. They can easily work on the next set of things. Thats literally how its suppose to function. The comic is just a bonus for the lore, and really doesnt take anytime away from the production of the game. The shadowscale “utah” call you claim isnt in the game…is in the game….if you did actually play it you would know its the chat sound when you type something into chat… There are some good points in here. But a majority seems like you didnt fully research and just kinda going off your personal feelings and assumptions. Blitz wasnt showed because its textures broke with a transfer and it would have been grey and ugly to showcase…the shadowscale also had a base color and not iconic. And Im sorry but everyone is on about the money in making a game…anyone that says they make more than enough does not understand how much money is actually required. Gold will not be a skin wont be a skin anymore but an overlay. So that wont be a problem Totally right about private servers and unfortunately the lead dev does get personal feelings involved and can create a mess Im all for reviews good or bad. But at least get your facts right please.
Couple days ago on Discord Jao accused the dev team of "The Last Sanctum" of stealing one of their dragons design (Singe Crest or something) Jao rather than be professional about it and talk in private to that dev team, he instead cried on his discord about it and tried to weaponise his followers to attack that team over his accusations. What a crybaby hypocrite Jao is.
Hey way but production quality and script than your size implies. One note of feedback is to edit out the pauses or when you say the wrong word and correct yourself. Otherwise really good video!
i dont think you should become anything more as a backer, the Game should be much cheaper, thats all, i Play the The Isle but if its some day releases it would be a desaster if some Playerers Couldnt Play some dinos.. So a big no to all that shit they are doing!! I was intressted in that Game but releas a DLC bevor the Game is out and give some People sweet Stuff for backing the Game its a nogo for me..
I respect opinions and all that. Just wanted to say a few things, the reason they are working on other dragons is because they specifically stated that the animators have done the animations for 1.0 and those animations are just going through polish. They moved to 1.1 because they was nothing else for them to do for 1.0. It's currently slow rn because Jao is still kinda recovering from a life-threatening injury and is just taking time to make sure everything is done correctly and not rushed. Video games take time. The DLCs are how they get money. Patreon cannot hold up their entire source of income. They are making a comic for dedicated fans as well. The trailer was a bit questionable and needs to be a bit improved but they are quite a small company so of course they won't be able to do a very high quality of a literal movie trailer. I love this game with all of my heart and your points are valid and good enough for me. This is just my take on this. Have a good day!
50k was unnecessarily spent on music. Jao then has a nerve to tell us assuming we are all stupid that games are very expensive and that most dragons need to be DLC to keep the coffers filled. The menu music you hear upon loading is roughly $8300. Why so much for an indie game? Hell, Zelda: Twilight Princess used a soundboard rather than a orchestra to make iconic music that's still loved to this day. Apparently Jao was struggling so badly with cash that when the Ukraine war broke out he couldn't resist offering them a special discount as his way of showing support while they were getting shelled. Thinking more about his pockets than using common sense. As for the horse accident, I do find it sus that he wasn't able to spare 12k during the KS campaign for his game but was able to afford to buy a horse, saddle, horse feed, etc after he got 530k? DoD Motto: "Video games are expensive!"
@@cfowler7936 These are good points but I still like this game. I know you are disgruntled about money being spent this way but they are still kind of new to this and no I'm not defending them, I'm just saying what I think. I respect your opinion. I'm a little confused about your war point though. How is it thinking about his pockets when he is showing sympathy for them? And yes it is true that video games are expensive. For his horse, not ALL of his money must be spent on the game....he has a life too. Have a good day!
@solsticewatcher2061 I think it was completely insensitive of Jao to be offering discounts for his game to people fleeing, fighting, and well... dying in the war. It's an equivalent of giving a homeless man discounts for furniture. 😂 You really should check out Wings of Dawn and compare the timeline of both games and the funding. Then look at their content. WoD somehow has more and arguably better content.
@@cfowler7936 I've looked at Wings of Dawn and it just doesn't really spark any interest but thanks for the recommendation ^^ Thanks for respecting my opinion and have a good day!
I play only the Isle so my opinion is not relevant on here and never tried this game at all. It looked okay as an old project but because I did not followed this game (I was just aware of it's existence) I only can say the gaming industry is pretty much like this. Tries to get the more money with less input involved. Some games what I have seen suffered from high degree of neglecting and low funds. Other projects that deserves more usually goes under the radar while others (The Day Before) gets a lot attention and takes a lot of money. Because I do not know the devs of this game I cannot tell if they just lacks of skill sets, patience, time or money or they just intentonally want to keep the game in that state just to sustain themselves with the kickstarted money. Would not be that big surprise because possible most of you are aware of how much kickstarted, indiegogo or fig projects turned to be scams. I personally like more the scifi or realistic things and in fantasy games I like the regular cliche class, species, role type of rpg games or strategies but a dragon themed game is always sounds cool for most people.
I'm sorry but you lost me at saying the sounds The ss made weren't sounds they made in game uh what that's their talking noise, they literally make it every single time someone types in a chat xD
You are HORRIBLY misinformed on almost all of your points... 1. With 300 hours, it's embarrassing how little knowledge you actually have of the game and it's functions/gameplay, or even the sounds the dragons make. 2. The kickstarters were people CHOOSING to spend that much on it. They didn't ask people to spend that much. Also the first release from kickstarter was a placeholder for the "idea" on what kinda game they were hoping to make. Yes, there were bought assets, but you gotta start somewhere for coding, especially since he didn't have someone to model the custom assets yet. Also, lets not forget that many games like Beasts of Bermuda, and even The Isle use purchased foliage assets and trees I've seen exactly the same in many other games. And no game can run off of 4 lines of coding. Unsure where you got your computer programming degree from, but return it. 3. How are they acting unprofessional? You have given zero evidence to support your blatantly bias and uneducated accusations. You keep talking about people spending money, no one's forcing people to buy the game. No one asked you to buy the game 3 times to have alt accounts. That was your choice, so don't complain about your bad decisions. Just because you don't see the progress waved in your face every day all day, doesn't mean it's not there. Also, Patreon is optional, a CHOICE. You don't have to. Also, again, bringing up games like Beasts of Bermuda, Path of Titans, They all had DLCs in early access as well. 4. Saying what was shown "Doesn't exist in the actual game" is false. The sound the shadow scale makes is actually the sound it makes IN THE CURRENT VERSION when you type. It's literally the "talk" sound. Saying it doesn't exist in the current game just shows you have NOT actually played as much as you say you have, or have just never once typed in the in game chat in all of your "300+" hours you claim to have played. Also saying it sounds like the "velociraptor" from Jurassic park means you haven't actually watched those movies either. It sounds nothing like it. My dog sounds more like it than the shadow scale talk sound. The Isle was a pure rip off of Jurassic park. 5. This isn't a gameplay trailer, This is an environment and cosmetic trailer. They probably chose not to show the blitz because they didn't wanna ruin everything. If they showed EVERYTHING that was coming in 1.0, then there'd be nothing left to discover and be surprised by when it finally releases. You're like those children that need instant gratification for everything. There's no participation trophy here, kid. Also, the ASD was shown because it's not NEW. The ASDs been around for ages, nothing new, everyone's already seen it. 6. The Oasis map is a hat tip to the KS days, Us KSers LOVE that map and it brings back good memories, it's good that they're keeping it in the game to enjoy. 7. You talk about slow progress... how about The Isle taking 6 years to completely re-write their game? Not only that, but it's a completely SHIT game full of bought foliage assets, recycled sounds and poor quality optimization. And they have a 10+ person team coding/working on it and offer ZERO transparency on progress and things that are being worked on. 8. The Comic is something fun for the lore-driven people to enjoy. IT'S FREE and no one in the dev team is working on it. It's being worked on by a whole separate person on her own. You sound like you're just complaining for the sake of complaining. 9. Some things that are DLC, like emotes and such will be unlockable by doing in game quests and such later on, just like the Kickstarter Melanistic skin is unlockable in the current game. I suggest getting your facts straight, little girl. So don't complain about DLCs. Also, Compared to Beasts of Bermuda, asking $32 for a skin overlay DLC that has glow on it, that doesn't render in if you zoom out, it glitches and flashes on your dinosaur constantly, and will randomly stop working. So they make you pay $32 for a DLC that doesn't even WORK, yet you don't see BoB players whining like spoiled kids about it like you are. 10. There have been countless giveaways for the kickstarter skins, Not their fault you missed out. Also, with the new crafting system in 1.0, you won't have to whine about "exclusive skins gatekeeping crafting", because you'll be able to customize your own. So your argument in invalid in that sense. Also, there's so many people with these skins that nest freely and openly, you have no right to complain. Lastly, Opinions or not, stating that much, if any, if what you said in this video is fact is just plain ignorant. Most, if not all of what you stated was false information spread by people who purposely spread hate for the game because they WANT it to crash and burn. So many people are trying so hard to MAKE this game fail. Why not make your own dragon game? Since this one's ok "FOR NOW". Others have tried making their own, but they all have failed. None are living up to what DoD is. I suggest re-educate yourself with actual facts instead of just believing any false rumor you hear from haters.
I'm sorry who's complaining? Nobody forced you to watch my video, nobody forced you to write a whole essay about how much you disagree with everything I said. Not to mention you contradict your own points multiple times. And you dont have to be so rude either. I said it was mostly just my opinion and in the description said that I may have gotten some things wrong. You are a prime example of what this community has seen over and over with people defending this game to a ridiculous degree. Plus, you might want to cool the jets with calling me little girl, that's pretty uncomfortable.
In your video you stated that they were all "facts". What you type to cover your butt for spouting hate for no reason doesn't go along with what you say in your video. I didn't see much opinion in this other than you constantly saying that you were saying "facts" but you have no screenshot proof, no evidence, nothing to go along with the false accusations you're saying. Just footage of your supposed "300+ hours" of nothing. And trying to pull the "uncomfortable" card with the little girl comment will get you no pity from anyone, stop playing the victim here. You were called out on your bullcrap and you can't take the heat LMAOROFL
Sincerely, drink some more water, as it may dilute the massive amount of salt you're spewing. There are much better and more productive ways for you to get your counterpoints across. The game will fail not because of people who want it to fail, but because of the team behind it who is way over their heads and without the right focus or a heart in the right place. The Patreon you point out correctly that is an optional subscription was launched in June 2020 and announced in update #40 of the Kickstarter when there was barely nothing to show for the funding from Kickstarter and when any crumb of development was being gatekeeped even to the KS backers. At the end of the day, there is no denying that with the time and funding DoD had, the game being at the stage they are and with so much emphasis in DLCs/Merch at the stage they are in is ludicrous and a sign of poor planning and poor management of resources.
At this point, did you even actually watch the video? I'm sorry you feel the need to be insulting to get your point across, but replying to other commentors from completely different comment chains with insults and untrue and unkind statements when they have nothing to do with our discussion is unruly behavior and there's frankly no need for it. I don't feel the need to defend my statements because you've clearly misunderstood a great deal of what I said and anyone who's actually watched the video would be able to see for themselves that you are doing nothing but spreading hate and slander in my comment section.
1. While true you would be surprised by how toxic the community can be, I wouldn't blame people for not ever wanting to talk in chat 2. Yes they chose to fund the game, does that give him a good excuse to shit talk, mute and ban them for having concerns? No. Do people trash on TI and BoB for buying assets and claiming them as their own? Of course we do! The difference is that DoD showed ONLY storebought assets mashed together with almost no gameplay mechanics made and then put it on KS. Also games 100% can exist off 4 lines of C++ code, if you are BLUEPRINTING everything you aren't doing true C++ coding yourself 3. "My game is BeAwesome!" "My game will be the best Dragon game on Steam ever!" "People that don't like the game or have any issues ever are haters and just UA-camr Propagandists!" "This person wrote me a personal email outside of the public so I am gonna doxx their personal information to the public now!" How is all that "professional"? Also people DO go after BoB and PoT for having DLC, you seem to conveniently ignore that so that you can defend DoD. 4. Back up to point 1. How something sounds relating to others is subjective though, to some it wont sound like the Raptors but to others it will, to some the Dragons don't sound like actual Dragons and should be changed, really doesn't help bringing that up. 5. It may be an Environment/Cosmetic trailer but they still use ONLY gameplay animations and as the ONLY trailer for 1.0 that may exist its still putting up unrealistic expectations. While I am all for not showing off EVERYTHING in a trailer when your game already barely has content it'll prob be a good thing to keep players in the loop. 6. the Oasis map isn't even permanent, they are releasing it as a temporary thing until they make new custom maps 7. The Isle may be slow but it still released MUCH more between updates compared to DoD. Whether you like to admit it or not The Isle built the very foundation that all these Animal Survival Games build off of and after their rough time figuring out how to do things of course other games do it faster. Also now with Evrima ramping up not only are they releasing multiple creatures but they are releasing them with BRAND NEW mechanics, compared to DoD where the only real changes are stat changes and mostly cosmetic elemental changes between characters, they are basically all copy/pastes of each other and its boring. 8. The comic is a major waste of time and its STILL something that the main team goes over with them, its gotta be lore accurate after all. 9. Emote packs specifically were never planned to be unlockable, you either buy them or don't get them. Yes you may be able to NEST the DLC in but with things like Blitz and Behemoth he is intentionally forcing scarcity into it to the point that you are better off just buying the damn things. Also what you are describing with BoB are NOT DLC, they were the OLD KS rewards that "people chose to fund", do you not play the game? 10. Skin Crafting will still FULLY rely on having some way to access those skins, you aren't going to be able to make your own, you NEED to nest to have specific color combos. If you want say a Purple and White SS you will still need the white gene somehow and he can force scarcity by making passing on those colors insanely rare. If you want to guarantee it you need access to the Nurse Dragon otherwise. Also skins like the Patreon skins are going to be made Pearl Exclusive, so you wont be able to nest. Do you not pay attention to the development statements? I feel like this last statement you are FULLY into the lies that Jao spews that all the old drama is just fake propaganda that was made up and people that dislike the game only do it for the fun of it. If you were around back then you would've seen the breakdown, the bannings and the doxxing over something any Professional Indie Dev would've ignored and ACTUALLY proven wrong. They never were lies but he likes to pretend they are. Nobody is really trying to "Force" the game to fail, he can do all that himself with how he behaves and how little he actually works. Nobody is really "hating on it for no reason", any hate has a reason whether people like it or not, some are just more vocal on it. If I were actually interested in working in this genre I 100% would make a Dragon Survival and sell it for free, it would be simple after all!
Everyone here that wants a good dragon game to follow: Wings of Dawn. they're not perfect and development is v early still but they're better than DoD, which is a scam lol
I will never understand why they need DLC after getting half a million for funding. It's no surprise this game only has 400-500 average players
because the game's been a scam from the start, as everyone said.
Because its an awful scam
Jao asked for 12k on KS because he claimed it was just enough to get started. Then after getting 530k and Patreons subs it's suddenly: "We made it DLC so it continues to fund the game's development. Video games are expensive to make you know?"
Note: Currently 50% of the dragons planned are DLC or KS exclusives.
The only Ks dragon is Bio and there is only 3 dlc dragons planned in total, I guess if math is hard thats half...

I guess it's greed as well. It's a shame, day of dragons should release free stuff considering there base game ain't even completed yet.
8300 for a song is crazy
@@estevan764 "Jurassic Park doesn't own dinosaurs."
I mean duh, but their portrayals of those three dinosaurs are unique enough for someone to see them and know immediately what media they're from.

If you want a Dragon life sim look up Draconia
I was excited for this game when I saw anthomnia make a video featuring it, the very first time around, I went through all the drama that was to unfold after, and really it's became pretty clear to me that the game was a scam.
scam /skam/ noun
a dishonest scheme; a fraud.
@@_Ducky_Pretty sure Anthomnia ignored those threats once Jao offered content creator's exclusives for Anth to gain more subscribers.
@@cfowler7936 which is horrible of course, I haven't gotten around to unsubscribing from anth yet, but I don't watch his videos anymore
@@Monarch_Mal Then the question about why it not being included in the trailer stands even more ground though
Maybe you still disagree with me, and that's okay too :)
imagine asking for 14k, getting more than 25x that amount, and still asking for more outrageous amounts of money for basic features instead of actually fisinhing the game
to me this game was supposed to be a scam (the guy literally had nothing to show at the start, no game, no previous experience and his "anonymous" team of devs) but got blown out of proportion to the point he couldn't just vanish with the money and felt pressured to actually do something
Me watching the trailer seeing the Fire Elemental deciding to redownload the game thinking I can finally play as it just to be slapped in the face with the exact same game 🤣
If you really want to play it, you can play it in the test moments, but a trailer doesn't say that it's necessarily already there.
@@Syke-2100 in my opinion making a trailer including a bunch of stuff that just testers can try is very misleading 😂
The shadoestalkers actually do make the utah noises, just not as a emote. They make the noise when you speak and type in chat
That’s actually worse
it always looked to me, like it was a scam that the dev (who very obviously lacks dev experience to this day) realised he could make even more money off of by milking it and doing the bare minimum of development. i'm glad to realise i'm not the only one with similar thoughts lol
if people want some dragon games to follow, i didnt see anyone mention (from my admittedly brief scroll) in these comments DGP or the dragon game project, it looks like a promising team vs team game and with some pretty sweet flying animations. More than just dragons too
i got Glyde the Dragon on my steam wishlist too, which is supposed to be spyro-like, though i don't follow the actual development of it.
some people might recommend Draconia, but personally that game looks like a bit of a scam too, or at least it's not supposed to be an actual video game more than an OC painter. i don't think that game's devs have any experience with dev'ing either
oh yeah, and Golden Treasure: The Great Green (visual novel game) has an upcoming sequel, thats a good game 10/10 i recommend
i wish i could expand my list of 'upcoming dragon games worthy of being kept track of', but good ones seem to be hard to find :V i recently discovered a russian minecraft modpack about roleplaying as dragons that looks better than some almost completed [cough] games...
Well at the very least there are other dragon games being made. All of them are super early in development though.
It is a shame, but I hope the next dragon game learns it lesson from this one.
are the ss even in their iconic skins? seems like a solid blue color. could’ve sworn the ss had a dark blue tint on its wings

Day of Dragons is one of those games I'm shocked isn't dead & or abandoned yet...
Not even EA would make choices like this in a scenario like this
Personally i dont care for day of dragons anymore, a few of the designs just feel like blatant rip offs (singe crest, shadow scale, hybrid) and i was hoping for smth original
The trailer is just disappointing, bio straight up looks like plastic and doesn't fit in at all with other dragons 💀 this game just generally sucks and gets so incredibly boring so quick. I wish i could refund but i got too many hours into it now
Singe crest looks obviously like the banshees from avatar
Hybrid is like stormcutter from httyd
Shadow scale is basically a nightfury its just
I wanted a original game or something like that, at least with draconia u got some basic dragons but the designs they have r original and they got original maps, original lore and a magic system for a rpg style game
Day of dragons is disappointing
@@norian_creature They made Legless Skrill too! Hope ya see that one soon lol.
This is just my assumption though, I could be entirely wrong.
great video, you make some really good points :>

The decision to primarily showcase DLC and Kickstarter Exclusive dragons in the trailer is an interesting and dishonest one. i myself play the game and i immediately said to myself that is a scam i also make prototypes as a hobby and the greatest red flag for a survivor game is that they dont know what the game is about and only focus on microtransactions
DoD should take you on to manage product planning 🔥 now that's a proper timeline and pricing map
If anything, this game is: Dragon flight simulator: The Game
tbh. i think the biggest thing that makes me dislike this game is it doesn't have its own identity. most of the dragon concepts are based off of popular dragons in movies. the models don't seem to have a particular ruleset for how they are styled. so we get a dragon like biolumen(looks cartoonish compared to the somewhat realistic textures on the other dragons). i only backed the game because I had friends that wanted me to play the finished product with them. well, its been available to play and none of us are playing it.
Thank you for your inside!!
the fact that DLC's even exist in a game that costs $26 is disgusting, the game is obviously a scam and there is zero hope for it, I don't know how anyone could play this game let alone support it and it's developers.
From what I've seen it isn't a scam, but those handling this project have been very unprofessional if not downright incompetent so it wasn't hard to make that assumption.
We paid for a burger, we are getting a burger, but the cook ain't wearing a hairnet.
Not like Jao didn't have the money to hire a coder to help him.
"They might steal my custom codes" - Jao
Or Jao is scared they will call out his BS.
100% accurate take.
Ugh, there's so many things i would fix about it
the Wings of Dawn is a better dragon game, you should go check it out.
Draconia is a dragon game granted it still in alpha but at least their not working on cosmetics dlcs.
honestly this kind of just reminds me of yandere sim
Soooooooo, its 'not a scam', but has very greedy devs to the point that its basically a scam...
Draconia is pretty good to play.
5:25 am I going crazy? isn’t that the ss talking noise?
Maybe it is.. to be honest, I had watched another video where they made a point about that sound and my brain went "yeeaaah that's a utah raptor not a dragon!" And so I made the point in my video but then after uploading it I realized that it might actually be the ss chat sound, though its not as obviously a Utah raptor in the game, it's different somehow so I didnt pick up on it even after all my time in the game.
Yes it is. It is the noise that SS makes when it talks in chat except much more clearer than what it sounds in game.
It is the talk noise, they're just phishing for things to hate on the game cause they're a paid hater from another wannabe game.
@@CulpFox Where can I apply to get paid to hate games :O sounds like a fun change of pace and a great way to make up for having backed up the DoD Kickstarter
@@CulpFox Are you getting paid for brownie points and gold stars for talking shit because I want to apply for that.
very good i didnt bought this game, i thought that they REALLY did something, but its still as it were earlier, a scam
All that, and people still give him money. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
Trailers dont show everything
Its a trailer
82nd subscriber this video taught me alot ^^
Ha, how many nudes did they give you to post this crap you're typing. Sit down, kid.
I dont really care about if its a scam or not, its still a good game, and game development is hard and expensive. Edit: 5:27 the shadow scale does make these sounds in the game when you type in chat
This is a good opinion, opinions are not facts. And this opinion right here? Yep it gets a thumbs up mhm
I am a 3d artist with a background in animation. I work in unreal engine. If you want to make a dragon game, hit me up ;)
That would actually be super cool. I'm not the greatest artist but I've got some concepts for dragons and I have many many ideas. Now we just need a programmer
@@Meousepie17 Bet we could get at least as far as DoD just by youtube tutorials 🤣
@@HumiIiation Alright, if you're serious about making a game, I'm more than down. How do I contact you?
@@Meousepie17 My brother is a game programmer.
I could ask of he'd be interested in helping out?
If it doesn’t have a nightfury ripoff then it’s not a true dragon game
And when the trailer was posted it look fucking terrible lmao . The amount of glazers in the comment section saying its "Good and awesome"!
The Beawesome youtube account hearting only positive comments, especially ones that deflect the criticism, is super fucking unprofessional, also.
@@degeneratecringelord yea lmao
@@degeneratecringelord Or deleting negative comments. That is also one thing that has happened over the years and I wouldn't be surprised if they were still doing it. Very likely are considering that they delete negative things over Steam.
They said from the beginning it would be inspired by httyd. But yes they are being pretty shity here and there
the game is STILL one GIANT MASS of plagiarism
You wouldnt happen to have a patreon would you just to kind of support the channel?!
I do but it's very rudimentary. I really appreciate you for asking! I'll add a link to it on my channel :)
@Mousepie17 Of course I randomly discovered your channel by chance I believe it's because I have a very big interest in dragons but I mainly play path of titans tbh but once you put a link I'll happily support you ^^
@@enflameddrago6783 I love dragons personally, have since I was a kid! You're very kind for offering to support me! The link is up now :) I'll have to post more about dinos and dragons

Proof of them being a paid hater for another wannabe game.
trailer looks terrible, each dragon doesn't even blend into the game with their textures
The shadowscale “utah” call you claim isnt in the game…is in the game….if you did actually play it you would know its the chat sound when you type something into chat…
There are some good points in here.
So that wont be a problem
Totally right about private servers and unfortunately the lead dev does get personal feelings involved and can create a mess
Im all for reviews good or bad.
You really should check out Wings of Dawn and compare the timeline of both games and the funding.
I did say in the description I could have got some things wrong. You arent the only one to mention the ss chat noise :)
IKR? and they claim to have 300+ hours? ROFL They got caught in their lies.
@@CulpFox calm down jao
1. While true you would be surprised by how toxic the community can be, I wouldn't blame people for not ever wanting to talk in chat
2. Also games 100% can exist off 4 lines of C++ code, if you are BLUEPRINTING everything you aren't doing true C++ coding yourself
6. the Oasis map isn't even permanent, they are releasing it as a temporary thing until they make new custom maps
