Gotham City Impostors - Initiation (PC)

- The first part of my "playthrough" of Gotham City Impostors! Although the game is primarily multiplayer, it has a few single player modes too: namely the Initiation tutorial, and the Challenges within each map.
Recorded from a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Laptop via HDMI using an Elgato HD60S.
This video has been doing exceptionally well! I'm glad to see there's still a lot of interest out there in Gotham City Impostors. Even though I haven't made many videos about GCI, I've played it quite a bit over the years, even back in beta on PS3! Alongside this video of the Initiation Tutorial, I've got more on the way with completing all of the challenges for the different maps in the game. Unfortunately it seems impossible or very hard to get into an actual multiplayer match currently, but the Challenges are played single-player so still a good way to get some gameplay out of this game if you happen to still have access to it (on PC only I think, pretty sure it doesn't work at all on consoles anymore).
So the Joker gang is more closer to representing the ideals of their idol then the Batman gang are with theirs.
I mean, both gangs were founded by the same guy, so it makes sense they'd use the same tactics.

There was a comic-book adaptation of the game "Batman: Impostors" that showed that both gangs were started by a guy named Winslow Heath, a druggee who survived Joker's toxin and had a grudge on him *as well* as a grudge on Batman for not saving his girlfriend and killing the Joker. He became the Impostor Joker to form the one gang, and then became the Impostor Batman to form the other, all to cause chaos in the streets.
Like @pablomendez2319 said, in the comic book version of this story both the Bats and the Jokerz are started by the same guy, but also I think actually the Bats try to uphold the same ethics as Batman, but they literally can't afford to be as perfectly non-lethal as him. "Sir" makes a comment about this in the Initiation where he says they're dedicated to the same ideals as Batman but can't afford to fight as "honorably" as Batman because they don't have access to all the nonlethal gadgets Batman has.
@@pablomenendez2319 this is great. joker's ideology is much easier to follow which is why it exists in both gangs (basically "fuck it lets blow everything up"). both gangs have a genetic link to joker while batman has basically no involvement or guidance in his imposters, they're basically a waluigi version of him.

I would wake up earlier before school just to get rounds in and merk or get merked, my cousin and I were so huge on this game. Even today we still reminisce on it and the occasional *taking to someone and then ask* “you ever heard of or play Gotham City Impostors?” Like some fucking Mormons knocking on your door. Man this game truly deserved MORE. Classes and gunplay really stood out to me so much. When I was really just laying back I’d love to watch the tutorial videos for everything and just laugh.

From the moment it was announced to its release this game has felt like a fever dream (feels like part of its appeal). It’s an awesome way to experiment with these kinds of licenses though. Hopefully those days of pushing creativity for these kinds of things aren’t lost
I really wish we saw more experiments with licenses too, not only in gaming but with movies and stuff also. I suppose Marvel's Midnight Suns that came out a few years back was another one of those kinda unexpected games that I'm pretty sure is actually very good.
I think part of the issue with the Batman IP throughout the 2010s and even now was actually the success of the Arkham game series. The Arkham games were so exceptionally good that I think it actually kind of made it hard for any other Batman-related games to even compete. I just looked it up and Gotham City Impostors actually came out only a few months after Arkham City came out, and I'm sure there were a lot of people who chose to spend their money on Arkham City instead.

before we had titanfall we had this game, i used to fly around and do ground slams with the cape
As the years have gone on and we've gotten more FPS games with advanced movement I've always thought that Gotham City Impostors was actually really ahead of its time with its movement systems.
I wish this game was still around.
Man a quick porr to switch and this game would get a second life. I miss this banger. I used to swamp fools all night long with a heavy and roller skates and the rifle. Poppin' heads. Good times.

Do people still play this game on Steam?
I feel like we need "Imposters 2: Metropolis" and have the Bats vs Jokerz fight in Superman's turf.
If you had the game already downloaded on Steam it still launches fine and everything, and it doesn't give any errors when trying to get into a match but it never seems to actually join you to a match when you try to play.
I really wish this game had a follow-up, or even a spiritual successor. It would be so much fun to play another really goofy FPS, especially an "imposter superhero" themed one, even if it isn't necessarily with well-known characters.
@@WulfFy I feel like Bats and Jokerz would be the ones the rival gangs wouls latch onto since they could theoretically emulate their idols with their makeshift weapons.
I wanna think a Metropolis Imposters game could allow for PVPVE elements to appear by having the Justice League's B listers appear as potential boss battles that while tough, a group of Batman and Joker cosplayers can bring down with enough bullets.
At the very least, I think both the bats and clowns would agree to gang up on Jessica Cruz, the worst Green Lantern

I’m surprised that they didn’t do a robin or two-face faction or any other characters
I think at the time the game probably had a relatively small budget, but I bet if they ever made a follow-up or if the game had been really popular they probably would have added some more gangs. Maybe the Penguin could've had some hired goons, or they could've added a Nightwing gang and had some levels in Bludhaven.

I remember loving this video game on Xbox 360 and got on steam but than delisted and shutdown. It’s a shame the game does not multiplayer bots or single player.
I wish it had at least bots! I didn't even realize this game had the Challenges for every map until just a few weeks ago, so at least there's still a little bit you can do solo.

God this game was amazing, up untill the DLCs broke the balence. Katana was hard to get over, then the eletric ball blaster… just siad fuck it! (parot gun was fine no complaints)
I played this game as a kind and one time I played it and my friend was paying it at teh same time but without me and there was so few people playing that we managed to be on oposite teams in a match lol

It's delisted everywhere but if you already owned/downloaded the Steam version you can still play the couple of single-player things available in the game.
