    I love Gerber. I’ve been a Gerber guy for 40 years. I bought a Gerber with my first paycheck at 15 and still buy them and carry one daily.

    The Chinese are making almost all the tools for most of the companies. They have the drawings and specs for everything. It's really easy for them to make anything that is on the market. Our companies gave them all their secrets. We taught them everything we knew. Now they make their own brands with a few changes and are selling them for less. We handed them the keys and now we're screwed. Kids today in the US never worked in a factory. All us old guys who now how to run machines are disappearing. I have seen lathes, Bridgeport mills , and other machines sold for scrap. Corporate America gave it away.

    That is a good knife.
    If I were you, I'd put that knife with your prep/bug out stuff.
    And turn in all the other knives to the shop for sharpening.
    Even the multi-tool. Or get a sharpening stone, the girls know how to use it.
    When I was in my twenties, I had a Thai girl. And she had a sharpening stone in a kitchen drawer.
    which she used regularly. It was the same with my last girlfriend who was from Chile.
    I have the same system. And I have the same kitchen knives for 25-30 years now.

    Keep it for your use only. Good knives have a specific use but even the best knives can be abused and destroyed by people that don’t respect the tool.

    hello from UK, I purchased 3 knockoff strongarm knives from Aliexpress China , for less than $10.00 each delivered uk. the sheath is branded Gerber, but the knives are branded WPKOPYA with the Stars and stripes flag USA.
    they were advertised as D2 steel and very well made, I imagine they were so cheap as heat treatment is so critical, and all the adverse publicity with the knock offs breaking they are now dumping existing stock to recover costs.
    personally I want the knives for general camp and bushcraft work, and they should be fine provided they are not subjected to shock or lateral impact.

    Nice video, thanks! I´d keep the original knife pristine and use the Chinese knock-off for everyday tasks since you already have it! The Gerber Strongarm is a nice knife to use in a survival situation or an emergency, so spare it to serious situations when your life depends on it. The Chinese fake is much inferior compared to the original but it´s not a bad knife in its category: cheap counterfeit knives. It´s much better than a mass produced kitchen knife.

  • @rodneyschwieger
    @rodneyschwieger 5 місяців тому +3

    I would suggest you only share the knife if it makes it easier for the ladies prepare food for you and your babies. I would consider investing in a sharpener and try ti keep the China blade sharp for them. Possibly even consider buying them a more appropriate kitchen knife and keep the strongarm for personal use.

    Yeah, after some time cheap chinese plastic usually acquires this "philosophical" Play-Dough consistency, in worst case scenario a coal-miner booger one. LOL. On a serious note; these phthalates are highly carcinogenic. I wouldn't even touch that handle anymore.
