Today I review a new USB mic from Logitech the Yeti GX. This is an USB supercardioid dynamic mic with RGB lighting. The software is pretty good but has a few faults, while the sound of the microphone is bested by every other microphone I compared it against; this sounds similar to the mic on a headset.

Thanks a lot for that video. I think the overall message is, that Logitech should fix many issues in the software. For me I can say that the software is to difficult for beginners.
Yes they should fix many issues in the software. I added a list in the description in case they see the video when it launches.
@@Podcastage Good idea 👍In Germany many people are using Blue Yeti and Blue Yeti X mics. There are no videos online how to set it up perfectly from a to z. I think it is a good mic to start very cheap because here in germany a used Blue is about 30-45 Euros.
Wow, I havent watched a new video since reviewing the BPHS1 and Shure S7MB. You lost weight! Looking good, pal.
I'm glad you know the proper spelling of Microphone in the native tongue of Hell. I figured that since this microphone made me feel like I was there, I should pay homage and type in their dialect.
The fact that this microphone now resembles a suppository speaks volumes as to their future direction.
You had to go there, you have zero chill 😑
One of the best first comments ever on UA-cam. HAHA!
*WHEEZE!!!* XD
RIP Blue Microphone. 💀
@@WayOfTheHei and Loupedeck/Razer Stream Controller. Loupedeck also got bought by them.
1000% love the way you showed how the microphone sounds in all the various positions! Wish every microphone had a review video like this.
Can I say this is the best mic review I've ever seen. Very detailed and answered any questions I could've had. Good job!! 🎉
love the tests. very helpful thank you.
one of the best reviews i ve ever seen
Wow, its certainly one of the microphones released this year.
A take issue with your statement good citizen!!
...this is not a mic, it's an embarrassment.
This statement is technically true. If you can call it that.
10/10 this is one of the microphones released this year. No lies detected.
@@Podcastage you should take a look at the new ESI Neva Duo i heard it's a very good interface
Men of culture, speaking truth
The enthusiasm of your intro... oh, dude. You had me laughing like I was watching a Rodney Dangerfield special.
I LMAO at "...which I can't hear". I think you two should do a show together. With you and Bandrew playing off each other, I'd be thoroughly entertained. I DO think he changed his tune a little when he found out it had RGB lighting.
Went back 3 years to watch some other reviews of yours and you lost a lot of weight! Congrats! And also this is my new go to review for mics
Love your content, doesnt metter if Iv got one of those microphones that you test and review, Im still watching those and enjoy it :D
The enthusiasm in your voice is contagious
yes i am so enthusiastic about it and i hope that in heaven i get to review these all the time for eternity.
What a review! Thanks for your video!
As always, very nice review. An also, congrats man, i have not seen your videos in quite some time and you have lost a lot of weight. Keep it up, you look better than ever.
This is a very helpful detailed review, Thanks!
You're welcome. Thank you for watching!
I really enjoyed that review Bandrew, very entertaining and informative. The Logitech made you sound like you were broadcasting from an Apollo Mission, I was waiting for you to say ‘One small step for Man’. All the very best
Thanks so much Mike! One small step for man. One giant money grab from Logitech.
That neuman segment made me smile :) Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
😮 man ... the jump in quality sound when he got to the XLR mic 🎙️ .. thank you 4 this video :) I hope I get my very own Original(Vanilla ) blue yeti mic before they get out of the market 😊
If the Yeti fulfills your needs, I hope you're able to get one too.
Thank you soo much for the review, canceled my purchase and ordered Yeti X instead, saved me soo much frustration, and your reviews are incredibly helpful, thank you again!
I really appreciate that you make your reviews to be as objective and as scientific as possible and at the same time easy to understand. Keep up with the awesome work 😎
I just want to make it easy to get the info you need to make an informed decision. Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it very much.
The palpable seething hatred in that box throw is a thing of beauty.
It's gotta get the heck outtaaaa here!
fun fact: they removed the 3.5mm monitoring jack from the mic.
Render pics show it (logi G site), and if you feel around the sticker on the back, its "covered".
Prob removed and didn't wanna use a more expensive ADC/DAC combo chip.
Oh yeah! I felt that after reading this comment. CRAZY!
Yeah, better options out there. Thanks for the nice review. The Shure MV7 and MV7X are sure becoming popular. I daresay I am enjoying those more than the SM7B, actually. i have an RE20 which I bought used for a song, otherwise, I'd go that route.
Yeah if you prefer the MV7 to the 7b, then that's the route to go and save money. The RE20 is a great mic though and if you've got that, no need to change.
Thank you for the completely correct spelling of microphone in the chyron.
It's the proper spelling in the native tongue of Hell's inhabitants. Being that this microphone made me feel like I was there, I figured I'd pay homage by using the proper spelling.
Logitech put no heart into this microphone. They bought Blue and now think that using the Yeti name will sell a microphone regardless of its quality. What they don't realise is that consumers can see right through that. If they just made a good microphone for an affordable price they would sell way more and build up a reputation for quality products. The Razer Seiren Mini is a great example; £45 for that sound quality is incredible. Same with the Q2U. Thank you for another quality review Bandrew! I would've loved to hear it compared to an SM7B or RE20, just to see how it stacks up to one of the 'endgame' dynamic mics.
@@lilonfireagreed. Consumers bought the original Yeti for the Name. And that was just as bad, or actually worse imo
Those people are weird @@lilonfire
I think you misunderstood my comment guys. I said that consumers can see through bad products. I also said that if they made a better product for cheaper it would sell better. People aren't dumb. Nobody's choosing a Tonor mic over an SM7B, people just can't afford to spend £400 on a mic.
@@lilonfireone its affordable and two as someone who owns that mic its better than the blue yeti which is 124 dollars
Yeah. I think many people will still buy this without researching it just buying it based on brand equity, but many of them will end up with a bad taste in their mouth if they care at all about sound quality.
Whoa, haven't tuned into the channel in a while. You've lost a lost of weight, looking good!
Thanks so much for the kind words and thanks for watching man, I appreciate it.
Throughout the test, Bandrew didn't appear to be happy with the mic that announced Blue dead. It was the long-term professionalism that led him through this.
I do find it sad that they retired the Blue brand because Blue had a history and although I didn't love all their mics, they made some really interesting stuff. Blue didn't really do much the last 5 years short of update the yeti, but at least their existing more prosumer and professional mics were still pretty good.
@@Podcastage I agree with you because I have a Blue Baby Bottle SL on my rotation. That's a good one. It both looks good and sounds good.
Such a beautiful video
Oh man, Blue mics we’re the first good mic I ever used, during middle school. Good times, that Yeti was so good.
Never heard a Blue microphone I liked. This has not changed. Great video!
Honestly, if I absolutely had to choose between this and one of the Snowballs, I'm not sure which I'd rather have (don't intend on getting either, so I also haven't thought much in that regard)--and I'm *not* a big fan of the Snowballs
Hey Bandrew, hope you’re having a good day! I have a question or more of I need a recommendation. I’m looking for a great all around Mic, one that sounds great on spoken word, singing, guitar, drums, bass, etc. I’m looking at an SM 57 or an SE Dynacaster. If you could only have one, which one would you choose? (also, I have a bit of a higher voice.)
The idea of Neumann coming out with a a usb version of the U87ai is so funny to me
If Neumann ever does it, I'll buy it, and I'll review it. (please don't ever do this Neumann, I don't have that kind of money).
I honestly think for the same price, the Elgato Wave 3 is a much better bet. Not only does the microphone just sound all around better (in my opinion at least) but you also get the feature benefits that come with it, such as Clipguard and Wave Link.
For the same money you could get a Behringer UCA202 and a decent dynamic
I strongly agree. I love my Wave 3 and the Wave Link software is very useful
Exactly. I think you commented before you could have arrived at the recommendation of the video but that's what I said. The Wave 3 sounds better and has the same functions (and some because you get mixing as well).
The Wave 3's pretty nice, plus you get an additional feature. Even forgoing those features, as well as 24-bit (because the mic was released in 2009--almost as old as the original BLUE Yeti), however, you could also get a Samson Q2U, save some money, and *still* be better off (granted, other than the oldness, the Q2U's still pretty nice--not dunking on it or anything).
The only thing close in bad soundingness... the AT2040USB. What a crummy sound and a HIGH price. So much better stuff out there for the price. Thanks for showing us this so no one buys it. So glad a device designed to capture audio succeed on the totally necessary light show. Great vid as always! Keep on rockin!
Thanks so much Pax. The lights distract you and your viewers so they don't realize how bad you sound.
the 2040USB was the only mic included in this video that I disliked more than this piece of crap on Bandrew's voice
@@xHadesStamps amen
Really nicely put together video, not going to lie personally i couldn't hear 100£ worth of difference between any of these mics but I am a simpleton. I would be a fool not to listen to your recommendation as the main reason I was look for the GX was the Ghub software. so i will be shopping around for a blue yeti X now, many thanks - have a sub x
My settings for the Yeti GX: Place micrphone carefully on stand, turn all knobs down to zero....uninstall software, throw microphone in trash.
Assuming that you're in America, you also have the option of using the microphone as a target and destroying your $150 dollars in a dramatic fashion.
Good settings.
The voice effects got me laughing a lot, especially the DJ Robot and Dream ones
Dunno how I feel about what happened with Blue and Neat microphones. I just hope the gaming companies that took over them will have the chops (and the heart) to further build upon their solid sound quality, instead of merely trying to cram them with as many gimmicks and as much wow factor as possible. Also, more transparent pricing would be desirable (a while ago the Neat King Bee II's price increased- seemingly for good- and I still have no idea why that happened)
I would literally pick every other mic you pitted this against, including the original yeti. Seems like this software could be better on any of the other mics.
The sound of the other mics is so much better.
Not a fan of this mic, but one pro you left out is the off axis rejection. That was crazy
For the price, get the Wave, right? Was pleasantly surprised by how good it sounded in comparison to everything else around it's price range.
Exactly what I suggest. If you want usb, software processing, at the same price. Wave 3.
Bandrew: "It's got a plastic knob."
Bark: "That's what she said."
Nailed it.
bark: that's what she said.
Dang it, I can't stop.
Wow. Man, i saw you a lot in past (may be 6 years ago) have to say you changed significantly since then.
Thanks for coming around 6 years later, much appreciated.
That box toss was so petty 😆
I wanted it away from me as fast as possible. What can I say?
what in tarnation is this microphone, I'm late for my comment, sumimasen... also, your box throwing technique is getting better an better by the video!!!
I think I just like the mic because of you.
Have you ever tested the Thomann MB 88U dynamic usb and XLR mic?
Thanks bandrew! This video saved my life (I was drowning)
I'm glad this video was your life preserver. Keep your head above water and always remember to wait at least 30 minutes after eating before you go swimming.
You know what I realize from watching these on my phone? Skip to your summary and recommendations. My crappy phone won't be able to help me differentiate stuff. 😅😅😅 Thanks for reviewing
I listen on studio monitors or professional headphones... Bandrew is always on target...
@@DWHarper62 Some stuff my phone picks up, like the standard tests. Comparisons, it depends. The really good ones? Nope, nothing. They sound really similar. The odd crappy ones? Yah, they do stand out. Bandrew's super expensive one? I feel like it's better but I don't really more xD
I appreciate you having faith in me to shoot straight, but I would always recommend putting on headphones when you have the chance and listening later as well so you can start to develop the ear to pick this stuff up so that you don't have to take my word for it, and you can tell me to hush up when you disagree. =) Thanks for watching, I appreciate ya.
Agreed it's a struggle. I'm always listening on a tablet device so a lot of the nuance is lost. Sadly that marked the GX out as it was clear how bad it sounded. Bandrew sounded unwell and sarcastic even when he wasn't being! The 2040usb also sounded poor on my tablet, though better than the GX.
I’m so confused, what happened to Blue microphones? (Side note: that box throw was top tier!)
Hope you’re taking care of yourself, Bandrew.
Logitech: Ahhh, Blue Microphone! Let's buy this iconic brand for, you know, branding purposes!
Also Logitech: Let's make a cheap, crappy, overpriced knock off SM7B and call it a Blue
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
To give them credit, they didn't label this one blue. They retired that brand name, and kept the Yeti brand name. It's sad to see it happen.
Your music!! Can I produce a record of your top 50? Serious, I really enjoy your ideas. 👍🏽
I'd love to work together on something like that.
Have you upload your best settings for the Yeti X on the logitech g hub platform yet? Where can I find it?
Not the yeti X, but I have the video of the best settings for yeti GX on podcastage2.
intersting review. But still wait for the maono pd400x review. :3
thanks for the suggestion
@@Podcastage no probs. I like your reviwes. They are quite informative and actually usefull with all those tests in the video.
So I'd like to see it on some kinda-useful mics too. pd400x is just the first that comes to mind and the most wanted. :3
You need a pinky ring for the close up hand shots. Something real big and noticable.
Should I really wear a pinky ring?
@@Podcastage The Fandrews demand it
Is that gray hair my friend? Welcome sir. Welcome to the club. Fantastic box toss going for wall penetration this time. You should start the box tossing Olympics.
It is grey hair. It's been going that way for years.
Danke!
Thank you so much Rianer, you're too kind and your support means the world to me.
Hi guys. Does anyone know the microphone used in the Spotify for Podcasters Masterclass videos on Spotify? The mic looks sick but couldn't figure out the brand or make.
I'm still having hopes for that tonor t90 boom arm review lol
Don't hold your breath on that one. Ha.
Will you be doing your own video on the SM7DB?
The video has bsince been released.
1/4" threading again! imo a combo 3/8-5/8" thread with an adapter to 1/4" would be miles ahead, way easier for people to pick stable stands by accident because they don't feel like dealing with adapters
I agree. But I'm guessing they aim this at people who are more likely to have a camera tripod laying around.
Hey man could you check out the Maono PD200x
What boom arms is this compatible with? Wish you would of talked about that.
The mic has 1/4" threading (discussed around 01:12) which is a camera mount threading, but it comes with an adapter for 5/8" or 3/8" (mentioned around 00:45). Therefore it works on camera mounts, standard mic stands or a standard boom arm. Check what threading your boom arm has 1/4", 3/8" or 5/8"...this thing has those.
Shure SM7db Review?
I currently have the Fifine K688 and I’m looking to upgrade. I really want the the Beacn mic but not sure I should shell out. Would this be an upgrade? Cheers.
SM7dB? 👀
Did you accidentally add $100 to the retail price or is logitech insane?
It's been too long since I've heard a Flight of the Conchords reference.
I'll take my Samson gotrack anyway still ahead of its times hope they update it.
Great choice there.
This ought to have been a lot better. Why even buy Blue's expertise for when a product like this is what you are going to produce? :D
Just release a Yeti X with USB-C already ... would be much better.
A yeti-x with usb-c would be something so much better than this.
This mic is amazing in my opinion. But compared to my personal yeti nano, i won’t use it. It is too quiet but the quality is amazing
What exactly is a "boom arm" preset supposed to be. A boom arm is a pole. I don't understand how you can set the microphone to soind like a pole?
Different gain setting. When the mic is on a boom arm it's closer to the sound source so they need to have the gain set lower than if it is 12 inches away from your mouth on a desktop stand.
@@Podcastage Oh. Thank you. I honestly never considered the possibility of this being used on a boom arm. It would be pretty terrible, but I guess it's technically achievable. You're so smart you make even more feel dumb sometimes.
but the RGB lights make it sound better right?
Exactly!
That “Smart Audio Lock” follows up the same feature than elgato’s “Clipguard”
why would i be getting static in my earphones? and when i connect a mic, the static gets worse and people im talking to can hear it aswell, if i turn the mic volume up it gets worse for me and them, if i turn it down it gets better but then they cant hear my voice. ive tried looking on google and nothing works like the driver fixes and blowing air into the ports and it never helps. what can i do? i feel like this problem shouldnt even be a thing because imo it makes no sense since were in the year 2023.
I'm sure this being an end-adress microphone will not cause any confusion for the average consumer on how to use Yeti products.
Haha. I'm sure not. Everyone who buys this will totally use it correctly.
pls make video on gaming headphones with good microphone quality, i was looking into this and i found that logitech bought blue, i was excited knowing some of their gaming headphone implement blue mic techonology, but i end up disappointed because the g733 despite claiming having blue mic techonoglogy, sounds god awful!
So is the old Blu Yeti better than this?
honestly i am listening to this through g pro wireless headpohones so not the worst headphones haha, but honestly i personally thought it sounded pretty good for out of the box audio, especially if its just going to be used to speaking for example streaming, for me its good as i use logitech g pro keyboard, go pro x superlight mouse and g pro x wireless headset so for me having everything logitech is just easier as it can all be managed through ghub,
now i kinda feel bad, i wanted a good mic for streaming, i used the logitech g pro x headset until now, but in your video the sound quality sounds extremely good to me.. i could've gotten the yeti x for 20$ more, but the gx was on a real good discount.. so went for it (got the gx for 50$ discount because end of the year discount)
Don’t feel bad. If you’re happy with the sound quality, use it and have fun.
@@Podcastage thanks! And thank you for that great and honest review! :)
You seems to have lost weight ; looking slim , looking different . By the way very good review .
Thanks man, I really appreciate the kind words.
how much do you think the mic should've cost based on the quality of it?
What are your recommendations for USB mics ≤$200?
With 200$ u can buy a sE Electronics v7 (I love this mic) or a rode podmic xlr with an audio interface like scarlett 2i2 or a better audient evo4, I think 200$ for a usb mic it's too much. If u want usb mic try rode podmic usb, it's pretty good and in my opinion better of original podmic
Depends on your needs. Podmic USB is good for a dynamic if you want processing. AA MiCreator is good around $200 if you want a condenser with interface options. Rode NT-USB is good around $170. Samson Q2u is another great USB dynamic mic. for sub $100. The Blue yeti's are good if you need cheap usb stereo recording too.
Great video as always! Are you going to review Presonus Revelator Dynamic? That mic has features similar to this mic. I believe you have the condenser version of Revelator mic, which you covered only on your second channel. I like Revelator io44, which is an audio interface sharing the same onboard DSP with the Revelator mics, and using it with XLR mics gets me much better result than any USB mic.
I was going to review some of the revelatory stuff, but I had too many issues with the interface and gave up on it and really lost interest in it using that thing ever again.
@@Podcastage Thank you for your reply! I've heard about some issues people experienced with that audio interface, but I have not experienced any major issues with my unit. The only issues I had were 1. meters didn't work on my Windows 10 machine (they worked on my Windows 11 machine) and 2. the headset input did not let sources other than plug-in power ECMs reach my PC when I connected other sources like a line source and a dynamic mic using a headset breakout cable, a transformer (Shure A96F and Hosa MIT-156), and a pad even though the level meter on the built-in display was reacting to the input. I was able to feed those non-plug-in-power-ECM sources into the headset input when I used a 3.5 mm TRRS interface (Saramonic SmartRig).
Hi, you have tier list usb mic?
I do not have a tier list of mics, that's a great idea though. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hey man I was just wondering what your boom arm is
The one I use for the reviews is some affordable LYXPRO one I bought years ago. It's a common design and very inexpensive and a lot of people use this style of boom which is why I use it for the reviews.
I'm confused was Blue Logitech all along or a different company but some how using the Yeti name?
Logitech bought Blue a few years ago.
@@Kragatar This new Mic looks nothing like a Blue mic, the Blue mics look cool to Me, a bit classy with that blue logo. This new mic looks worse then a knock off Yeti.
Blue was the company that made the Yeti mics, Logitech bought Blue and acquired the Yeti mic brand.
As was pointed out. Logitech bought Blue Mics in 2017. The first mic that was released after that was the Yeti X, then the Yeti Nano. Then we got the Logitech Blue Sona. Then they retired the Blue brand name and kept the Yeti name alive and now we get this. Maybe the blue team wasn't involved in it.
@@Podcastage Interesting thankyou for your detailed response, I still have the Original Blue Yeti and to Me it feels nice looks nice, sounds fine to Me.
Bandrew, this is the first one of your reviews I'm having trouble sitting through. And it has nothing to do with you. For the algorithm's sake, I will watch until the end. I know you need the $0.001 from this view so you can pay for that alleged mic.
Thanks for sticking through the whole thing, much obliged.
@@Podcastage For you? Always. I find you extremely entertaining and watch every video more than once. in fact, I'd love to see longer form content that doesn't have all the tangents edited out of. Maybe a separate channel, if you don't want them here? I would eat that content up.
You can't even see the RGB as the user of the mic xD It just gives you a reflection of it in your monitor...
I defninitely thought this was a 50...maybe $80 mic when I saw/heard it... OG Yeti SO much better (obv. dynamic vs condencer but....)...also... hate the sound
😅😁
I would absolutely recommend the original yeti over this one.
I said they castrated Blue and what they used to be after the buyout. I was DEAD WRONG. They castrated it, mounted it's head on the wall and tried to look for more yetis to try and turn into rugs or head trophies on the WALL. Can they just bring back thee old Blue website and give the Sona the Blue branding back?!
This hurt. For $50 less dollars you can get an SM57 and sound infinitely better.
The Samson Q2U utterly crushes it at $70 and it's also USB. Baffling.
Yeah it's a strange proposition.
THE HUMANS ARE DEAD, great video btw, RIP Blue
We used poisonous gasses, and we posoined their asses. The humans are dead. Thanks so much.
Oh no. That scroll wheel coming directly from their mouse line makes me worried they're going to be using the same terrible encoders. Had several of their mice, all ended up with buggy scrolling after some light use.
Hadn't considered the encoder knob going bad, but that'd suck.
I have a Yeti Nano as part of my road kit if I need to cut a quick VO. Sounds so much better than this. wow. Half the price as well.
Yeah. Yeti nano is the route to go between those two. Also the original yeti.
Thanks for the review, I'll be passing on this microphone though I'm still trying to find one that stands less tall on the desk than my Shure MV7. Near the end you mention "similar features" on the Shure MV7. The Shure MOTIV desktop software is trash with almost no features at all; saying it has similar features is very misleading in this regard. The MV7 is a great-sounding mic, but Shure doesn't give a crap about desktop/gamer use as evidence by the junk software. I think you should actually call out how bad and featureless Shure's software is for USB mic use.
I don’t think the features of the MV7 is bad for a USB mic. Prior to 2-3 years ago the only feature you had on 99% of USB mics was you plug it in and you set your input level and sample rate bit depth. The MV7 software gives you some EQ switches, ability to EQ, compression, and limiter. Those are a HUGE update from prior USB mics. So I disagree with your assessment that it is junk software. If it doesn’t meet your needs that’s one thing, but it is far from junk software in my opinion.
HOW DO I CHANGE MY rgb one the YETI gx mic
I imagined the Logitech like the green goblin, saying to the Neuman "We are not so different, you and I!"
Nooooo! Logitech is just saying that to hurt Neumann.
Fun fact: the scroll wheel feels like its from mouse because it actually is from a mouse. It is basically the wheel from a G403/G703
Thanks for that information, it's good to know.
I knew it!!
R.I.P Blue.
I'll just answer the question posed with a solid no. Now I'll watch the video to see if may guess was correct.
