its cause all the reviews are for when it was priced at 600$, and at that price it was not worth it. you could get the extreme model for 100$ more, but now the diffrence is 300$ its well worth it,, i initially wanted to purchase a steam deck 512gb, but a little while later came the steam deck OLED version so i wanted to go fro that one instead, then my friend said wait for cyber monday maybe something might come up and sure it did, z1 and z1 extreme got price cut z1 for 400 and z1ex for 600$. now the steam deck was completly off the table at 550$, for 512 oled one, cause if you wanna save a buck you go for z1 and if you want performance you go with z1ex. and i went with z1 cause i have a PC already and i play alot of FC24 which is not posible on the Deck so it was a no brainer for me.

I've been saying the same exact thing. I've been playing Gotham Knights, Starfield, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and quantum break with no issues on the z1 non-extreme
Yeah, I haven't seen too many positive ones myself either. Must be that price, It went back up to 599.....It's just not worth it anywhere over 449. $399 was great though! ^^
I’m buying a z1 in 2weeks I already have a steam deck in which I love but I wanna play madden24/25 n cod games I could dual boot the SD but I wanna leave it stocked and not tech savvy
@@antwanowens4013I just picked one up two weeks ago. Now that it normally runs 300 to $400 it's a much better purchase If I already had a steam library I would have gone with a steam deck but I haven't played any kind of PC gaming in like 20 years. So what I like about the Ally is how easy the Xbox app launches and I can transfer over certain games I already owned along with the majority of the game pass library available for install and not just cloud gaming. Although it does really well with cloud gaming on my network But it's running a lot of semi recent games at least pretty damn well. The oldest thing I have installed on it is Prey 2017. Otherwise I have games installed that released up to about last year. I'm playing Elden Ring with a nice frame rate, it's running Red Dead 2, Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3 remake, Jurassic World evolution 2. And it's running Diablo 4 pretty well, that one however probably has the biggest noticeable dip and graphics from playing it on better hardware. But the compression of a smaller screen always helps that out Certainly way better than anything ported to my switch lol
Everyone speaks good about the z1 for this price, it is a beast... But if it is for the regular price 100 dollars less then the extreme model is not worthy... It's way better the extreme.
Nice to see a head to head comparison using real games, not just conjecture or benchmarks. UA-cam and Reddit are pretty much shitting on the non-extreme Z1 nonstop. The numbers you report for D4 are perfectly acceptable IMO (I plan to play D4 and Grim Dawn primarily). I'm awaiting the arrival of an open-box Z1 that I picked up for $339, and also a 512 GB Steam Deck OLED to compare side by side. Not even an iota of a clue as to which one I'll end up keeping, if either.
Congratz on the awesome deal you got there ;) I get why reddit hates on it, it's definitely not worth it at $599 or even $499......but come on at 399 or if you got it like us for $339 it's insanely good! I am curious if that oled steam deck will win out against the open box rog ally. Is the money saved worth it over the oled screen, extra battery, and pause/resume feature :o
Awesome video. Heres a tip for everyone who got the rog ally. DONT CARE ABOUT FPS. Its so much more fun to play if your only fps expectation is that it is playable.
Imo this is the handheld to beat for emulation. Open box (perfect condition) you can get this for $339, that's about on par with the Odin 2 base, and considerably cheaper than the Odin 2 pro, but this has access to Wii U/Xbox/PS3 and older pc games since it's an X86 device rather than Android which is software limited for the time being.
Hey bro I have a question I just got my opened box rog ally from bestbuy I also got it for $340 but I don’t know if mines is defective out of the box I’ve tried to charge the ally for several hours and when I unplugged it from the wall the thing turns off I’ve looked at the battery percentage and it’s at zero considering it was plugged in to charge for several hours do you know what’s causing this problem??
Yeah, yours might be defective. It should not be turning off as soon as you unplug it. Sounds like the battery is messed up or something. Good thing you can return it ^^ just let the guys at bestbuy know it has a battery issue since it won't charge. good luck ^^
I would really like for you do a benchmark on some AAA games please. It would be much appreciated because most people just shit on it for being released at all 😅. If it can run them at a solid 30fps that would be fucking awesome. Thank you 🙏
Yeah, sorry I don't have many AAA games, i'm usually just emulating stuff ;) But based on how it ran diablo 4 I'm sure it could run most triple AAA games at least 720p 30fps. I'd say for most games you'll be getting 2/3rds the performance of the z1 extreme at 25 watts and like 3/4ths the performance at 15 watts. so if you see a game running on the z1 extreme at 15 watts 1080p 60fps then you can expect 1080p 44 fps on that game.
How does COD run on it? I have a steam deck, do not feel duel boosting and have been thinking about the ally non extreme because it’s cheaper plus I’ve been wanting to play games I can’t play on the SD. Fortnite, warzone, destiny 2. Games like that.
When using in handheld on the z1e, armory crate and command center are amazing but when im docked i actually disable all asus services and strictly use ghelper to handle wattage and fans ( using smokeless umaf bios to allow ghelper run at a constant 43w when the intensive games need it)
How does the non extreme compare to the standard lcd steam deck in terms of performance? Been thinking of getting this unit and selling the deck to my brother.
Sadly I don't have a steam deck to test it out right now, but I think the steam deck beats it by a little bit at 15 watts maybe 10%. I would say only go with the z1 if you want windows over linux for whatever reason because performance of the z1 is not that different from the steam deck.
I love my z1, been able to game current gen games at 30-60fps depending on the settings. I even get better framerate on forza 5 than i did on the steam deck
Just manage to get a non extreme one for around 145eur trough signing a contract with my ISP, and got 2gbit download and 1gbit upload speed in the package for 37eur a month for the next 2 years. Have a PC for any more demanding games, so this thing should be great for emulation, indie and more casual games. Can't wait for it to arrive. Happy to see it can also handle diablo 4,intought it would struggle with it. I plan on using lossless scaling program from steam for fsr and frame gen, plan to heavily debloat windows and do any optimisation I can think of, so really should be good. Just wonder how deep rock galactic survivor runs on it.
