This is true. I got a z1 dog ahoy and tried the good ol cinebench r15 and the z1e definitely won by a good margin v.v While the z1 CPU is more power efficient it can't reach the same 4+ghz speeds under load :(
He said he had two of them and both ended with the same results after steady state conditioning. It is unlikely they were incorrect, as much as it is likely he might have been running one of the bad firmware updates at the time.
@lamontestewart1771 you have to just be willing to baby it, don't go into it thinking you are going to play every game flawlessly without making some tweaks to graphics, be ready to tweak settings immediately and you will have a great experience
i just bought the non extreme 2 days ago and my expectations were low due to a lot of negative reviews for bugs but after 2 days I'm loving the thing I have not ran into any bluescreens or games crashing its been running everything smooth at medium graphics aside from starfield it did not like that game lol, and with no stuttering or over heating soon I'm upgrading the ssd to 2 tb and its gonna probably become my main gaming device overall 8/10 for me especially at $399.99
I got this one for $399 and it's perfect for me! I play games on mid settings on 900p. I don't need the 1080/120........720/800p with 60-80 fps is great for me when I'm away from my gaming rig. I mainly play using 15w and chose this over the deck due to most of my library being on EGS or GOG.
Open box price after tax ran me $360 w/ free shipping. My reason to buy was that the Ayn Odin 2 Pro Max costs $460 BEFORE tax/shipping (so reasonably $510), and while they both have 16Gb RAM its an Android device with a 1" smaller screen and Chinese firmware. The Z1 has firmware support, not to mention compatibility with the fantastic Emudeck emulation community from the Steam Deck (Windows). While it has a much higher learning curve to set up to work efficiently - its been out long enough to have customer written guides on every aspect of set up.
You mean "extreme standby mode"? I'm not sure that works as well as sleep mode on other handhelds, though I gave up using sleep mode a while back and have just been doing hibernate so idk v.v
I managed to get an open box unit that was in good shape for under $350. I already have a Deck and a Z1 Extreme Ally, but I was looking at handhelds for a friend for Christmas and you really can’t beat the price performance of the Z1 non-extreme. I don’t think you can find a comparable laptop even at that price point.
@@Ahmad-ps4hn I got one non extreme open box for $225 in excellent condition from Best Buy. Considering that I paid $650 plus tax on my orginal 512GB steam deck over a year ago is definitely a much better deal. Games run noticeable better, better screen, memory space on par with higher tiers of steam deck. Also there were games and emulators that my steam deck would not run or needed complicated setups and watching UA-cam tutorials just to make things work. But they just work on the Z1 non extreme without any hassle. For example PCSX2 is the bomb in the non extreme. Everything runs flawlessly and for the same price you can only get crappy chinese handhelds were you still need to enable frameskipping or crappy resolutions to make games "playable".
I got mine a couple months ago from Best Buy new for $299 because of a price error mine actually made it out the warehouse before they could cancel my order lol. Still, im kind of wanting to just get the z1 extreme. Unless ur playing a lot of retro games, the performance is just okay at best. Having to put everything too low and still set resolution to like 900p just to still get only 30-35 fps is hard for me
should be playable 60fps at 720p minimum settings on 25w turbo mode. ua-cam.com/video/9MWWlcV6sxA/v-deo.html there's a video of someone using the z1 extreme and getting about 80fps at 1080p low on turbo. the z1 non extreme is about 60% of the performance so like 48fps at 1080p low on turbo. so 720p low on turbo should be 60fps.
It's definitely *NOT* the first "budget Windows handheld." That title could go to devices like the Anbernic Win600, the Ayn Loki Zero, the Ayaneo Air Plus 1215u/7320u, etc.
Well, it has to at least be the first budget windows handheld available in stores to the general public.....at least in America, I don't know about other countries.
I want to get one for my wife. She’s not a huge gamer and just likes to casually game before bed. She already gave her switch to our daughter. I don’t think she needs the best version for the type of games she plays
A steam deck probably is a better option, battery life is better, unless Windows is an absolute must would not really invest on this one over a steam deck, I got both a steamdeck and rog ally z1 extreme, I use the ally for more demanding games like cyberpunk Forza etc the steam deck can still run them but they look bit better at 1080p and also sound of ally is superior, I don't really see the point of the non extreme version other than it has windows and ppl are more familiar with it over Linux OS on the steamdeck.
@@MrJustek I don’t know man it’s a hard sale like I said it’s not future proof and it struggles with AAA titles we can’t justify it. I’d rather pay full price for the z1 extreme.
I did try it on the z1e and it ran just fine, considering fortnite is fairly easy to run i'm sure it'll have no trouble on the z1 at like 1080p 60fps if you do low settings. The only issue I had back then was aiming with controller, but that could just be me as a keyboard only player.
ua-cam.com/video/dosLW4yWC4M/v-deo.htmlsi=L8Kk9Cv4ZjG4enGf&t=530 that's a video from eta prime. He tested gta 5. seems playable to me. GTA 5 is an older game so yeah very playable 1080p low easy 60fps i think.
1:49 I'm sorry to break it to you, but ETA primes benchmarks were incorrect. The ROG Ally Z1 Extreme gets 2530/10866 points at 25W.

i didnt notice the open box prices when i got mine... i just got the 399 version. and im loving it to death!
Any problems playing games?

That's an absolute steal! the Z1 will definitely be a better device at that price. Just know the battery life will be a bit less v.v
I picked my non extreme up for $360 and love it. Watched a few videos on maximizing performance, and have no issues. No complaints here!
Only slightly stepping away from the mic @3:18 "But at least the micro sd card slot works". The shade of it all!😭
Ally recently with extreme sleep in window, so it can now sleep correctly

Bro is the z1 non extreme more performant than steam deck?

30-45fps is very smooth on the Z1. Where is this tech on PC?
Sadly not these prices in other countries.
Yeah, these prices are in America.....I heard at least in the uk the z1 is at around $499 so not as great...
In Romania the Z1 is 558 at the moment and i found open box Z1 extreme for 603@@MrJustek

Fair point about the ROG Ally. Makes it worth it. But I'm really gonna miss those trackpads....
Just ordered one for $305 new. Saw no other option at that point
Is this rog better than y the steam deck ?
Yup, Windows + VRR gives you far more tools to deal with struggling games than the slightly more powerful Deck.
Which digital foundry video are you referring to in 3:44 ? Can you include link?
need to be asking if they fixed the micro sd card slot, if not then its not worth it if they charged 199.99 for it.
Can you play warzone on this?
should be playable 60fps at 720p minimum settings on 25w turbo mode.

Nope. Thats within their return policy. You're leaving out the details where it's your fault.
I disbelieve. 1 week is fully within Best Buy's return period. What are you not telling us?
imagine trying to make is it worth video with everyone else data and not even using the product yourself.
