Excellent Banter, especially appreciate the clear communication (audio, explanation), video editing, split screen, showing control changes. So all around fabulous!
Glad to see you made a call to Conroe Regional (KCXO) as I fly out of there regularly as well as DW Hooks (KDWH). FYI, Conroe isn't exactly "Houston". Despite the name, the airport is in an entirely different county and is 50 miles north of downtown Houston. Saying you've landing in Houston is like landing in Delray Beach and saying you've landed in Miami. Thanks and enjoy the content as always.
Being interested in an instrument rating, I enjoy the details you include on flight procedures. Great video/editing i would enjoy longer instrument shots with camera.
This brought back lots of memories. I flew a pair of 60's for a Midwest corporation in the late 90's until parent company closed our flight department. I still fly one occasionally in my dreams.
Honestly it just made me so glad I work for a large airline. The 91/135 world still has so many practices from decades ago that airlines have long ago discarded. We talk SO MUCH less than that, and my company still briefs and talks way too much IMHO.
@@DanSHJ45agreed. I was watching this and thinking how disorganized this all seemed. Also the level of polished product coming off of airline training is quite superior to the 91/135 world. No hate just different.
It’s not so much 121 vs 91/135 as much as it is pilots coming from different training. On a 91 flight I can not assume that he is going to do things the way I expect. Especially being brand new. I don’t know how he was trained. Two people in the same training class can be using two different op specs if they are training for different companies. So they can come out of the same class with different SOPs. At your large airline, you know exactly how the guy next to you was trained and what he is expected to do.
@@DanSHJ45 same. The callouts for airspeeds on takeoff were over the top. Check or set thrust, 80, V1, Vr is all that is needed. I like at an airline that we don’t say much but we both always know what each other’s thinking is.
I typed in the Lear 60 in 1993. No sim so all our training was in the airplane. We loved the performance. My company had 7 over the years before we transitioned to Gulfstreams. Closest the corporate world had to a fighter. Wished Bombardier had improved the wing,so high altitude performance would have been better.
I fly the Collins Proline 4 in the Beechjet (Hawker 400XP), but I can tell there are a few things that are different in the software for you. Your overspeed is always showing those large red fence markings. Ours only does that once you overspeed. And your vertical speed command appears in the top-left, ours shows in the bottom right by the vertical speed gauge. There's a few other weird things I've seen that are different. Must have been amazing technology when it came out in the 1980s! Haha. It's not as good as the newest tech but it punches above it's weight
@@BaronPilot Well I guess that's because she has kinda somehow dark reputation. But that's mostly result of bad handling! (the most notorious accident I heard of was that of the Brazilian rock band "mamonas assassinas"). As I see it, that's a jet that is quite a handful to fly, and as many others you must always be (at least) one step ahead (as visibly you obviously are). Being born (almost) from a fighter it's no surprise.
If I'm listening to the right place--"841SC, Miami Center: amendment to your routing, advise ready to copy. Climb maintain... 15 thousand" (give or take a few words)
It has been decades since I've flown (passenger, right seat briefly, and jump seat on a low ILS) in a Learjet. Around 1990-ish. Lear 25. I love the takeoff performance but I'd get behind the aircraft so fast it's not funny. I see why there are two pilots. I slowed my instrument flying down so I could study and pass my test. I passed but it was no walk in the park lol. I'll get back in the air and start prepping for my checkride early next year. My CFII is taking some much deserved time off. I'm close. Oh so close... It's not an easy rating but it's very satisfying. I don't find flying under the hood to be difficult. Procedures, holds, all that is manageable until something different happens. That's when things start to get stressful. I love ever second of it lol
BaronPilot, must the person doing the IOE have some Sim training in type to do his IOE in the aircraft ?? Not that it would happen but if the PIC keeled over he would need recent experience to take full control and be PIC in an emergency I would assume. !! Thanks Really enjoy your work. You’re a cool cucumber in any type !!!👍
I’ve dealt with a few emergencies. Engine failure, loss of oil pressure, partial power, smoke in the cockpit. Surprisingly all my emergencies have been in Jets, but not the Lear. Smoke in the cockpit was the most troubling. Jets fly fine on one engine.
Technically. Screen is flashing (refreshing) but we can’t see it, too fast for our eyes, not for the camera. It’s detectable because of the difference between camera and screen refresh rates. Supposedly if you put a sunglasses lens over the camera, it will stop it. Never tried it though.
ND filters can help. GoPro doesn’t let you adjust the shutter manually so darkening with ND filters can help but as you can see, it doesn’t always help. 🤷🏻♂️
No. It’s failed (three flags probably for gyro, nav, glide slope) and doesn’t react during maneuvers. Normally something like this would have a MEL so you fly with with broken, but usually restricted to Day VFR only. There’s a few dead people around because of a broken or absent standby indicator. The “magic” can go completely black.. and those usually have an _extra_ 30 min of battery to keep going once main power has failed.
Great stuff as always! Does IOE need to be done with someone in particular/do you have a certification that allows people to get their IOE in this type from you? Or is he done with checkrides for now, and you just happened to be the first captain he flew with?
You have two pilots on board. When at 1000’ to go, I see the pilot flying is programming the FMC. Delegate that to the PNF, as YOU are flying the airplane! Much safer that way. 👍🏻
Wow! I was impressed by the speed down the runway for takeoff! That baby accelerates, I could almost feel myself being pressed back in my seat!
Oh she’s got some power 😎
Looked like 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds to me, give or take. About as fast as a reasonably quick sports car today, or a 1980s supercar. Impressive.
@@lebojay probably even a little quicker when you consider 52kts = 60mph 😎🚀🛩
@@BaronPilot It's the 100 to 200 that is really impressive...LOL

Excellent SA on the climb rates out of busy airspace. Much appreciated by all running TCAS in their aircraft. Keep up the great work.
Thanks 😊

That’s always tough. I’d love to show longer shots but most people loose their attention span. That’s why I started shortening my videos.
Most people watching this video are probably "aviation geeks" (like me).
And you wouldn't LOSE my attention and probably not others either.

That was his first flight. He was trying to do everything right and was a bit nervous. I spoke to him about that.

The wing and a trail link gear would have made it a pilot’s favorite for sure!
Was cool to hear the crew briefing
Great job Mike. Safe and calm. Amazing.
its been a time waiting for a new post from you, when are we going to see more of Kims training?????
May be she stopped the training?
Great seeing you in the Lear, it a busy cockpit lot to do to keep ahead of the airplane. Safe travels Chris and Merry Christmas.

Very cool! As a FLIB, there sure is a lot going on with checklists/flows to fly the Lear 60.
Agreed. Way too much unnecessary jargon /verbiage. Crap you don’t hear in flying big iron.
Hey BP. Finally back on the sadlle of the Lear. Nice to (finnaly) see you back on that "beast".
Happy landings from Portugal
Glad you enjoyed it. The Lear doesn’t seem to be as popular on this channel as the Baron. 🤷🏻♂️😂

I will wrap it up after the new year
My God buzy start n stop!!! Mike!!! A+ brother!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
How fast can that jet get up to 15,000 if you could just have clear skies?
I’ve climbed at 7,000 fpm without trying. I’ve had friend me tell me they’ve done 9,000 fpm before. Either way, pretty quick! 😎
@@BaronPilot thanks for the information and let us know how Kim is doing.
You might want to play around with the camera framerate a to get less flicker on the screens.
A slight change to the fps goes a long way.
Thanks.
Yay Mike!
Cool aircraft! How long before Kim starts trying to fly it? 🙂
Don’t give here any more ideas 😂
@@BaronPilot LOL!!!
How is Kim's flight training going? Are any videos coming out soon?
Her series will start back up in January. 🍻
Camera tip. Roll your shutter until the flashing stops. If it over exposed just use a filter.
GoPro doesn’t give you the option. I did add ND filters which can help but unfortunately the refresh rate of the screen is just too slow.
Awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thks for another great vid.
good job
What version of FF has the taxi route?? That’s a game changer
I love the taxi routes. Use them on every flight even when I’m familiar with the airport. I believe you just need a performance plan.
