Hi Buddy, Nice to see your back on the lathe project I have missed your posts. Great to see the switchgear I spent my career working on stuff like that. Best of luck with the rest of it. Cheers Jim

Thanks Jim, yes it,s good to start getting some more posts up again, time always seems to be the limiting factor, things do seem to be coming together at long last, but like most interesting projects the garage will never be completely finished.

    hi doc
love your colchester videos, great help for my project
maybe you can help me with another info
even after having wathced your video 5 times and after intensive study of the wiring diagram i have not yet figured out what makes the crabtree man relais to activate and start the motor
i dont see what or how the relais coil circuit is being closed to allow flow of current and to move the starter relais bridge down
the main starter switch on the side of the headstock slides contacts up and down, yes, but what does it effect ?
what is the cause of moving the contacts in the trip out switch to allow coil current flow ?
    thxs for comments or info
    cheers

Hi Matthias, I take it your lathe isn.t starting up, double check your starter handle contacts and make absolutely certain they are making contact when you move the starter lever, mine looked to be making contact but were a couple of thou, from not touching this did involve a bit of head scratching on my part until I noticed it by sheer luck.

Hi Doc, hope you are enjoying using your lathe after all that work. I have been looking and researching and it appears that at least some VFDs are providing functions replacing starter and other protection circuits. May vary from mfg to mfg. I am reading that vfd manuals are not very understandable unless you already know the material. Certainly better than I could do in Mandarin though in all fairness, LOL. If you have problems with contacts, Mercedes used silver contacts pre-1990or so. You might be able to do a better replacement job with silver rather than with copper if need be.

Thank you Toby, yes have enjoyed using the lathe, still needs certain parts adjusting and fettling but haven,t had a lot of time to play as I have been busy, thank you for the information.
