Can't wait to see more! I really like the way you do these reactions. I know it can be hard for you as a creator to see us as "Tool Army" coming to these videos and not bring much to your subscriber count, so let me explain my experience: I have no interest in other music reactions, not because I am JUST listening to Tool, but because it is a perfect blend of good music that you just want to share with people, vicariously enjoying the novelty and excitement you feel, and actually wanting to see different viewpoints on their music - a kind of openness which is fostered by Tool themselves, I think. As you said yourself, they are pretty much alone at the pinnacle of music, so it makes sense to me that I would rather watch tons of Tool reactions but not be interested in much else. Even if there are some tracks from other bands that would make for a good reaction with the same qualities, Tool is the only band I know that CONSISTENTLY puts out amazing music building onto a concept of the human experience, so it's no wonder they gathered and retained such a huge "cult" following! It is extremely powerful and meaningful to many people and they want to share it.
That intro's a bass lick, Syed. Also if it's not said, this is the Maynard writing about how close the band came to breaking up. Looking forward to the album review. Any album. All albums. Buckle up! 🌀
I think you can apply this to any relationship really. Communication is key. Just because you disagree on something doesn't have to mean you can't make a relationship work. In fact that's what's beautiful about a relationship, the give and take to make them work
Tool is the most musically sophisticated band, at least since Pink Floyd. In the breakdown section after the bridge, there is the repeated set of tones which has an odd rhythmic feel, but as soon as his vocals come up underneath it creates a whole new sub-structure around those tones, and everything suddenly doesn't feel odd at all anymore. What was broken while separate, is restored when brought together. As someone who has 'done the math enough to know', that line invoking humility before the unknown really hits hard with me.
You have quickly become one of my favorite reactors. Love your music POV and deep dives you take into the context of different pieces. If you are unfamiliar I think you would enjoy Dream Theater. Now there will be a lot of standard DT songs that the masses will recommend but as a deep fan I feel "The Great Debate" off their album 6 degrees of inner turbulence showcases some really unique composition. Keep up the great work!
Syed, would it be too much of a pain for you to do playlists so that we could see more quickly which songs you have reacted to with bands where you have listened to multiple songs? I know I can search UA-cam for SyedRewinds Tool. But still…. It would be helpful. 😁 LOVE your analyses..very astute and knowledgeable. Thank you for the time you put in.
I am eagerly awaiting the album review of Lateralus. It is one of my favorite albums of all time. All Tool albums are great, but Lateralus is up there with Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin IV, Master of Puppets, and a very short list of all time greats for me. That riff you hear in the very beginning which you attributed to guitarist Adam Jones is actually being played by the bassist Justin Chancellor. Tool loves to do that, make the bass sound like the guitar and make the guitar sound like the bass. They'll trade who is carrying the melody effortlessly and can make it hard to tell which of them is doing what at times. I don't think the lyrics are alluding to Maynard's mother, but an intimate relationship that's falling about because of lack of trust and, well, communication. There are a few songs in which Maynard (pronounced "MAY-nerd" btw) sings very openly about his mother and her Christian faith. Listen to the songs "Wings For Marie / 10,000 Days (Wings pt 2)" from the Tool album 10,000 Days; and also the song "Judith" which appears on the album "Mer de Noms" by the band A Perfect Circle, a side project of Maynard's which is worth checking out, maybe even doing a reaction video for....
1st song my teen played for me when released. He came screaming in from school, "Ma check this song out!!" Been a fan since then. Prefer studio, feel the vids distract and I'm old school. 🙄
Love the fact going to hear more Tool. For something different you should do a reaction to Maynard’s other band A Perfect Circle and there version of Led Zeppelin’s When the levee breaks just like you did for Tools No Quarter. It’s fantastic especially the Live Red Rocks version. Love your channel, cheers from Perth Australia
The song has a way of making you feel off kilter; the beat would be really hard to even walk to so you feel dizzy and your brain can't find a place to settle. Both beautiful and...dissonant.
The main riff is split into a count of 5 and 7 eighth notes. Just count evenly (synced to the rhythm) to five, then seven for the duration of the main riff. Once you notice that, the rhythm becomes easy to keep track of and vibe to. 5 is two head bobs, 7 three. The guitars accentuate when to bob.
Syed, I have a question: Now that you’ve listened to allot of the best of rock in many sub-genres and have gotten chills multiple times……… Do you get chills from hip-hop? I’m asking honestly…not trying to be snide
Just got to find the right hip hop dude. Unfortunately it was high jacked at the start of it and ruined through the years. But rap has some of the most prolific lyrics of any music. And just like rock/metal/punk. It basically ended in 2005 to 2010
Never considered it had anything to do with religion. Nor have I ever thought it had anything to do with his mom. I guess either or both could be true. I just thought it was a song about relationships.
People hear that he’s done a few songs about his mother and religion, and suddenly every song is about that. This tune has nothing to do with mommy, and that awesome “guitar” sound you hear at the beginning is the bass.
I think you owe it to the world to react to Georcge Michael's "Careless Whisper". The official video has 926 million views on youtube as of this comment.
The videos by tool, to me, absolutely distract from the the lyrics and the chordal and rhythmic complexities. You cannot possibly pay attention to all three….and since sight is our sense that is paramount, we get inexorably drawn into focusing on the video and not the music.
The beginning riff is actually Justin, I've noticed he does a ton of parts that sound like guitar lol
MANY MANY sounds are JC not AJ! It took me years to figure that out! JC is fucking GREAT and made the back whole!!!
Can't wait to see more! I really like the way you do these reactions.

Lol I caught that too. Hard to tell sometimes with Justin and Adam.

Yes! more TOOL!
I can't wait for you to do EULOGY! The anticipation and build up are EPIC!
As a wise man once said and as the ending of the song reveals, this song is actually about the struggles of reassembling an Ikea furniture.
I reco' chronological. But starting at Undertow. Growth with every song--and you'll want to and end up listening to them all anyway.

Awesome! Looking forward to that full album review. Spiral out 🌀👁🧘🏻♂️🙌🏼
Always love your reactions man, especially when it comes to Tool 🤘

The drums in this song are amazing and I still think they're underrated!!

To get an insight into Maynards mom check out another band Maynard is in, A Perfect Circle - Judith.
You should do an album review of "Language" by The Contortionist. It's also prog metal but it's such a unique vibe.
React to Rage Against The Machine
Vicarious with Lyrics
Lateralus you need to do that track, probably the best overall tool song, at least one of the top of theirs
In my opinion this track was influenced by the band King Crimson , who I know they admire . My favorite song by TOOL .
Thank you
This is an 11 out of 10 for me. Imo it's their best.
You know, I don't think I've seen anyone do Jimmy yet by Tool. One of my favorite tracks from Aenima and one that gets overlooked a bit.
Skullz...
With Intermission to start it off. 😊
👍👍👍👍👍
From what I heard it is about the band. Tool.
🤘🏻🌀
Oh that was painful when you just talked over the bass intro. Edit, then praised Adams guitar tones when it was Justin's bass
They use the flow of the song also to tell the story and you stopping it at key points kills it all
Like the shamanistic? React act to the “Holy Trinity”. Same album

TOOL
Nope...that was Judith ..and Undertow...and Eulogy

100%!!
Agreed! So glad the video got blocked.
Not for me. I have no problem with watching the the video & listening to the music.
Tool, Opiate
The female had no ears so she removed the other one's ear and idk what that means
Listen too the music ..don’t get caught up trying too figure shit out one thing at a time
10,000 days IMO a more mature Tool.
That's NOT AJ in the intro that's JC!!
Rick Beato does a musical break down of this song and parabol/parabola, well worth watching.
