"They're very aggressive and can draw blood" said nobody that has ever kept one as a pet and quite frankly, just the exact opposite is said of these animals that they are scary looking but over all docile.
Couldn't agree more. I think spiders are awesome little creature's. And these whip "spiders" are pretty neat, too. But, ever since I was a kid, I have a "thing" about seeing them upclose, especially suddenly. Growing up on a farm, I have seen plenty of awesome and traumatizing events. None less so, then when I was climbing the barn ladder, to the loft. When my head breached the opening, of said loft, I was greeted by a large wolf spider. She was approximately 7 inches from my face, on the loft floor, right at the opening. Since we got the jump on each other, she raised up on her back legs, spreading and elongating her front one's in the air, in that defensive posture that spider's use to make themselves appear larger and menacing. Well, it worked. As she was large enough, thank you, and QUITE menacing. I let out a shriek, letting go of the ladder entirely; plummeting the 16 feet (over 5m) to the packed earth floor below, breaking the fall with my back. It was the closest I had ever come to a spider of that size, let alone being at my face and at eye-level. Also, the first time I knocked the wind out of myself. I was quite certain I was going to die. Not from the fall, mind you. But, from the giant arachnid; that I was positive, was lining herself down to finish the job. Not being able to breathe/move was secondary in my panicked 8 year old brain. But, turns out she was as glad to be rid of me, as I was to her. And we steered clear of each other, the rest of that autumn. Still, to this day, I am not excited to climb a tree, or crawl in an attic, only to be confronted by a large species of anything owning more than four legs (that goes double, when they come packing twice that). 😊 Lol, so there ya go. An (not-so)epic tale, that no one asked for.
@@vincentoconnor5640 yeah, and I was lucky- if I had landed anyway other than flat: probably would have broke something... or multiple somethings. Instead, a good winding, prob a concussion (didn't know what that was back then), and some severe trauma- never liked that hayloft after that. Played in it before, avoided it, as much as possible, afterwards.
This reminds me of a time I was at a party. A large orb weave spider was building a web on the deck. We moved the spider from the deck to a fence across the yard. About 3 hours later, I saw the spider working its way across the rain gutter back to its original location.

He should have been more specific. Some of the species are aggressive and some of them can draw blood. The ones he's catching I don't think are. National geographic probably cut out when he specifically stated only some species can draw blood etc.
More power to curiosity-powered people like Verner Bingman! 2:20 you say they come back in ten minutes, whereas before you stated if you scare them once, they're gone for the night
Does anybody know the scientific or common name for the whip scorpion shown in the yellow diagram at 0:48 ? When he was explaining that there are over 150 species...... I've seen whip scorpions before, but I've never seen one with those flaps on the front legs🤔🤔
I can see it now. The whip spider going to his friends and saying he got abducted by aliens and they painted his nails, gave him a build in. Cellphone and released him.
This is a very interesting animal! I love spiders, but while these are "arachnids", I don't know much about them at all. They look crazy cool! And that is a totally "scientific" term...LOL!
"so we put an incredibly harsh chemical that even humans cant stand the smell of over their amazingly sensitive antennae-form legs. Just to see what they did." 🙄
This called spider by many. I changed my perspective to these creatures. If i got an opportunity to adopt it. I would since i have a fear on spiders. Just like horseshoe crab but they are friendly tbh.
I heard the final test is to serve the Whip Spider a soy decaf latte when it asks for a whole milk caffeinated latte, they will track her to Starbucks to see if she asks to speak to a manager.
What do you find most fascinating about whip spiders?
Their whips obviously
The nail polish. It sounds really unique.
To me Ofc the fact that , though they are called spiders they are not spiders but a close relative😅 and the nail polish fact😅.....
The way the can get back to the tree they where found in.

Not a spider, but enough to have a mini heart-attack to see one up close suddenly in the wild. 😅

They're truly fascinating! Stay curious.
Reminded of the Harry Potter movie, Goblet of fire, when the professor with a glass eye performed the Cruciatus Curse on an insect like this.
And the Imperius Curse which he only did to remind us all that Ron hates anything with more than 4 legs
Avada Kedavra!

gross, scary and impressive at the same time

Isnt this the bug in Harry Potter (Goblet of Fire) ?
Mad-Eye Moody (Bartemius Crouch Jr.) practiced all three unforgivable curses on this creature.
Yes. Although it was CGI,it was hard watching it get tortured and then killed.
