The reason why I still play this game, is not for the grind, it's more for the whole atmosphere, the music, the surroundings, I live in the middle of a pretty big city in my home country, this is my way to relax, also because there is no such things, as big mountains or incredible animals where I am from, so now I got the chance to live how I've always wanted, so it's not because, I have to play this game, it's because I can't really stop living the life of a hunter

I love your perspective. I don't nearly like to get out into the field as I'd want to and this game is a great way to fill that little void in my life. If I'm not grinding in theHunter: Call of the Wild, I tend to enjoy it a lot more too.

I will die on the hill that heard management killed this game. It’s not longer an adventurous hunting. Simulator now it’s a fast travel tent great one fest. Not my deal and I find it super disappointing because I loved this game and have some incredible memories. I think something needs to change because the way the game is going adventure seekers will switch to a different game, and those who grind will inevitably burn out.

This game has personally become just a massive grind and nothing else. When I first started I just went on an adventure, just hunting whatever I can find and it was fun. Eventually that obviously just got a bit boring after a while and then I started great one grinding. After that I just lost interest since I literally spent like 6 hours a day at one point just hunting red deer with no results. I realised that great one grinding ruined the game for me and I should have not done it as much as I did since I just forced myself to grind as long as I could a day. Slowly im starting to gain more interest again to start playing a bit more regularly. Last time I was actively playing was 6 months ago, so im glad some motivation is finally coming back.

I have more then 3000 h in game. I'm a stalker (Hunt on foot). It's so addictive and relacsive. Trophy spawn is very unbalanced unfortunately. I don’t understand why some trophy (Capercaillie, Beceite Ibex, Blue Wildebeest and etc) spawn instantly, others (not G1) after hundreds of kills. Why???? As if dev deliberately force you to be a "drink time butcher", not a hunter.

I haven't played Cotw in a while, but when I do I usually take 1 gun, 1 optic, scent elim and a first aid kit and just walk around areas where I know animals will be, doing it as a player for fun is viable but as a creator I imagine it's not unless you tap into a niche pice of the community that priorities realisim. Even though I play the game like I did in 2017 it doenst feel quite the same, even on hirsch and layton. Still fun to play in the super slow and more realistic style (kinda like hunter classic) when I just wanna relax and unwind

I've only been playing this game since last December, and as I've tried different reserves I get the feeling that the devs are just giving players what they want. The base game maps are very detailed, it's clear that they were designed for a slower, more patient playstyle, such as the likes of Snow Runner. I mean, you can choose to have to rechamber manually. The missions are insteresting and challenging (overly so with the coyote ones in Layton) and they integrate you into the reserve, they make you feel like a living part of it. Yes, it's hard to see animals in the brush, but irl it's harder still, and imo the vegetation only makes the world more believable and beautiful. But, when most players simply want to grind for the best trophies as efficiently as possible, instead of taking things slow, I don't think it's the devs who're at fault for putting out maps tailored for that. Why bother creating engaging missions when most people don't care about them? Why bother with realistic environments if that's going to make it harder to kill multiple animals in one go with a military derived semi-automatic rifle? People don't want the whole experience, they want the best prize and they want it now. I'm not saying it's wrong to play this way, I'm just saying that people should be aware of their own role in the game's evolution. I'd also like to say that given that lakes in both H. and L.L. have waves with sound effects, the still and silent waters of the beaches of the Emerald Coast and Te Awaroa simply aren't good enough. They make me feel like I'm playing a game from the early 2000s. Worse even, considering Half Life 2 came out in 2004. Finishing the SRP mission arc without needing to hunt a single animal is also not good enough. Not only does the storyline not invite you to hunt, it pretty much makes you feel like you should be apologetic to. Still Hirschfelden, Layton Lakes, Medved, Vurhonga, Yukon Valley and Cuatro Colinas are all fantastic experiences that make me glad I tried this game. It's not that the others are bad, they're just not as good. (Haven't tried Mississipi, New England or Revontuli yet.)

    • @Gruntly
      @Gruntly  6 місяців тому

You know, as an Australian, I haven’t even played the Australian map. I still keep up to date with content but I moved to way of the hunter when I did play video games. Currently I haven’t turned on my PS5 and have played nothing. Back to your question, sort of. The biggest turnoff for me was some bugs took forever to patch, Mexico took forever to come out. The GO being rare spawn and diamond spawning I was fine with but having drinking times the only effective time made it a bit repetitive giving that if you wanted to have a consistent method of getting the correct RNG. Another thing was with its cousin the angler. I was soo hyped (this was when I did play some games here and there but WOTH and the very odd COTW) about it but giving that they never gave a proper timeframe really made it furious going to the point of saying, soon instead of giving updates and progression. Even though I don’t play anything, if COTW made all zones more in sync (like WOTH), the animals won’t head BACK to the same zone immediately if spooked (I just used to sit with the tripod, deer, wait, deer, wait, deer, wait) whereas WOTH does have if they’re spooked from the zone, they’ll head to a different zone. That’s what I think for the community, it would need a complete change.

I started playing WotH two weeks ago, and was surprised by the zones, some maps are great to hunt feeding zones, other more drink zones, but also they have more zones wich they swap,
Graphics look good, and the herd management is different, more the way i like. And in my opinion more realistic, get rid of bad genetics, to get a good genepool.

Firstly, I must say thanks for this video, after your pacing back and forth I think you made the great decision in making this, I share your exact opinion especially on grinding, HM, G1s being the holy grail and all-and-end of the game. Back when I started playing in 2020 this game was unreal fun, evoked curiosity, and was authentic if that's the right word
It's hard to tell what the EW studios want / desire for how we play the game. On one hand like you say, there seems to be a big encouragement towards grinding especially the G1s and their low spawn rate being the main motive/compeller, on the other hand, I look at these gorgeous massive reserves that are so detailed and well crafted, and I think there's no way the dev's put this hard work and time into making these awesome scenic landscapes only for it to be a waste - with the players only playing on them for the lakes/grinding. I think they desire for the game to have that versatility with how you want to play it, like how you did mention, grinding/farming simulator or an actual hunting simulator. But like you also said, why play it the hard way when you could give in and just HM grind, the option is there and it's looming above your head so why not give in to it. Especially with all the G1s they're releasing now, and all the insane trophies everyone gets, it's a whole new standard.

    • @Gruntly
      @Gruntly  6 місяців тому +2

Thanks for checking the video out. I feel like most people end up in the HM grind only because all of their buds or favourite content creators do it too. There is nothing wrong with liking that but I just am over the same thing day in day out

I'm a little late to this, but since the new Nepal map is coming out today, I see this map as a huge improvement. Ive been thinking that they could make the higher elevation animals not drink so they would be harder to find, and they've made it so some predators (More saught after animals) are going to have just a handful around the map.
Another thing I think a lot of people would agree to, is to make certain animals have very small chances to be non-typical with either a sticker here and there, double eye guard, or a drop tine, or a combination of them. It would add so much to the game and get rid of the repetitiveness of grinding. I mean, It would add so much to so many maps (Whitetail, Blacktail, muledeer, Both Elk, Red Stags, Moose) And who knows what other animals they could add that have them. I wouldn't even mind if they skipped a map just to purely work on that system either. Just knowing they are working on Something that will improve the game for a very long time would be so nice to hear. Could you imagine the stickers on the mule deer racks being a natural occurring thing on Almost every map? Like a 0.00001% to spawn on a gold or better animal on each tine, something like that.

Interesting topic. I have been playing COTW since December 2023. I am at level 57 presently and I was thinking about this subject today. I've nailed it down to 3 issues that I'm having with the game. 1. inability to hold the gun steady enough to make long shots because for me, it takes longer than 1 second to focus on the target through the scope. (I have all the skill and perk points covering this topic) 2. placing tents and the like where I want them. 3. animals not showing up at assigned need zones during published hours at all in some cases.

Those problems are all things that you can fiddle with to your liking. The scope is much easier to use the more you use it and get used to it. The tents issue will just fall on you thinking more about placement. the animals need zones can be a pain yes but usually if you change the time by 1 min they should spawn in

I refuse to watch grinding videos or play that way. Grinding ruins the fun of any game. What’s the best way to play a hunting simulator? Pretend you’re really hunting. Pretty simple. Don’t shoot everything. Don’t be in a hurry. Enjoy the hunt for a decent animal. A rare animal is just that. Rare. When you play the game right and stumble across something rare, it will be the coolest thing ever. Herd management and grinding is just manipulating computer code to get to desired photo of an animal made of colored pixels. That’s just stupid. Google a photo. It will save you time. But playing the game the way it was designed is relaxing and fun and lets you get lost in multiple reserves and enjoy the outdoors looking for the best trophies.

This games economy is genuinely horrible. Devs have literally no idea what they’re doing.
Some weapons require money to buy…. Some weapons require a certain amount of weapon exp to be able to buy……..
DLC weapons are completely free.? ruining the entire point of this system. So why have it?
Why is there weapon skins in the game… and then some weapons have 3 different varents of the same weapon with different skins. Making the already terrible ui even more annoying to navigate.
Why is the damaging systems so random? Couldn’t they at least make the ammo realistic? Then add guns with specific ammo to cater to certain roles that they want to fill??????
Why is the animal senses so random? Man… nothing like being behind a hill. Wind in the other direction. Not making a sound and the animal knows I’m there. Then…. Runs off.
Then then sometimes you can stand and run right next to it and it has no idea your there???
    How is that actually enjoyable?
    Why is there hot zones?
Man nothing like walking to 25 min and see/hearing nothing. Then 10 seconds later you hear calls from 10 different animals.. wouldn’t it make the gameplay so much more enjoyable to be able to find an animal… anywhere? And then some areas are just more likely to have them. It’s just so weird.
    Maps are horribly balanced/ paced.
Some maps are wide open fields and you can see for miles. Then some maps are cluttered garbage you can’t see more than 10 feet in front of you.
    Why does buckshot suck?
Why do they need to sell 90% of the game in dlcs?
Why do basic boring weapon skins cost money?

Nice to see that there are a few content creators who aren’t all about grinding, but you’re 100% right. The ones who don’t are all mostly sitting with around 500-1000 subscribers max. I think they should make tents tents themselves and fast travel to and from tents massively expensive, maybe even almost as expensive as resetting skills. Imagine if it cost 45k just to get one tent, and another 30k to fast travel to them each time.
Obviously this might cause some issues with new players/non grinders wanted to use them, but to be honest I’ve had the game for probably 5 years and never put a single tent down so maybe not. Honestly most times when I watch the UA-camrs that do grinds that have like 500k anyways so I’m they could still fast travel 10-15 times back to back if they really wanted to

i feel like its slowed down now... for new stuff and for stuff we want. so i feel like they need a The Hunter COTW 2 and add to that rather then this 7 year old game then it would be more for like it use to be. and for a new game i really just mean less finicky graphics , maps that have props and plants placed properly and non jagged terrain , better path generation for the animals , more realistic pricing and physics of weapons... like penetration and what the right classes are for what ammo , and more customization to the weapons like colors wraps camo and attachments with there own color options , and boats just to get acrost a lake .. i know it would take longer to get there but i don't wanna teleport there that's a tents job man. and over all i feel like that is a way better base for a game to build off of. PS 1KM render distance come on man.. as well as why are we saying were adding a .50 cal to the game when its not actually a .50 cal don't fake it say what it actually is.

I agree that grinding is getting repetitive. I’ve been burnt out on great one grinds recently. However, I still enjoy playing this game along with Way of the hunter and Halo. The main reason I’ve been playing this game even when people don’t enjoy it is because I feel that most multiplayer games are shooting themselves in the kneecaps, with Call of duty and Battlefield are two big examples. I feel that Fortnite is going down that path too. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for this game.

This is difficult because so many people think it's broken or dying. I think it's just not the same as it once was, I remember old SRP, Cuatro and Te Awaroa. They're my favorite and still are, the updates have changed it, I do think G1 grinding is outta hand especially with certain content creators getting tons of them, but they also play this game, every single day. Most people do not have time for grinds, I'm fortunate to have 6 G1s.
But I know a lot of people don't. And with HM and stuff. But I also think it's a game, not IRL. I kind of wished they had said HM was bad that way trophies would be more rare, but sadly that's not the case. One day though I think the game will reach the highest and most players, and I believe new players enjoy the game more than people who have played it for 3+ years.

But yet I keep coming back. I know I’m years late to the game but it’s very enjoyable. Want to give way of the Hunter a try but I’m still stuck here and will be for a good while it seems. Hunting for diff furs, etc just makes me want to fill

Is there a way to tell? Most of the content creators nowadays just order their next super rare and then jump in and do the live stream, acting all surprised for the great find..such a joke. I love this game, I have played over 2,670 I am not into grinding, I love wandering around shooting what I find. I just reset the game & now lvl 35 I was surprised how hard they made it from the beginning too much gun wobble ect, to be honest they made it very hard to shoot compared to later. I am surprised that some people kept going with the game as they did make it pretty hard at the start. I am a real life hunter even when I started I was never this bad at shooting, they make you really crap from the start. I think the company is mainly looking after the the grinders & not the every day player, why else did they change the bears to night time & now back again, I think there was an easier fix, why not just turn off the aggression & chasing part of the mountain lion, you can see the bears near other animals with no problem so just turn off the feature that make the other animals scared of the lion ect. Anyway I was quite happy with the old times & the way they chased each other, if I went to a lake I would shoot a bear or a lion, what ever was there. The update that took mountain goats away from drinking zones destroyed that map, it was my all time favorite map but now you can hardly find a goat which was great fun to shoot & there was lots of them, they stuffed up the mountain lions ect at the same time. They seem to be catering to the grinders only with changing times to suit them.

*_"they screwed it they raised the price of ammo"_*
The cost of ammo is really a non-issue, it's only an issue for Call of Duty style hunters like you who need to pump 10 bullets into a bear, when one shot of a .340 aimed at a vital organ will do just fine.
*_" that needs a ton of real money to buy more tent , new guns...etc"_*
That's because you want to own the whole store, and then complain that you lack the in-game finances. You make this silly assumption to assume that it will make you a skilled hunter by buying all of that. I got news for you; it won't.
I have a second account that only owns a .300, and spotting scope and NOTHING else, not even camo or callers. All the in-game money I earn is just piling up, and I refuse to buy anything with it. And guess what? I won over 140 medals with that account so far, 93 were gold, I hold two world records, and I'm twice in the all-time Hall of Fame. Gear doesn't make you great hunter, skills do.
_*"and hunt with them in their hunting stands *_

I have close to 500 hours, I've never once felt the desire to grind for diamonds or great ones. I will never get a great one, I find a diamond about every 100 hours or so, and that's fine with me because it feels amazing every time. TBH, I feel like a big part of the issue is that there is a lot of emphasis in the community and especially the influencer space on that grind, and it's understandable why, being able to put "I found this Diamond/Super Rare/Great One on my grind" makes for great engagement. And to be clear, I don't feel like creators are AT FAULT for this, I'm just saying that's what drives clicks, people want to get that dopamine hit of seeing something amazing and rare happen. It's to the detriment of the community though IMO, I have seen multiple posts from people who buy the game and jump STRAIGHT into the grind because that's what they think the game is from the way it's discussed.
Now the important part, how do we fix it?... I don't know, I don't think there is a fix because the way the human mind works, the way engagement and algorithms work, the cycle is locked in, and it would take a major, community wide shift in thinking and discourse to change anything, and I just don't see that happening any time soon.

It's not a hunting simulator. In this game you will see tons of white flashing track indicator floating about a track, does that indicate that it's a hunting simulator? A lot of things in this game simply confirm that it makes no attempt to be a simulator as best as possible, and don't be misled by the graphics, a game needs a lot more than fancy graphics to be called a simulator. I wouldn't even play a hunting game like this in which it's so easy to hack the game to get any score or rare you want.
This a game that truly tries to be a simulator as much as possible: "Beginners guide to starting the Boeing 747-8i in Microsoft Flight Simulator after the AAU2 update", and no need for hacking in that game.

On public land you have to go walk in the woods or you scout and try to find where the deer are so you have to put hours of your time to find animals. private you have stands and you go sit in those stands for hours all of season. I play CotW since console release, and i am with you, the game is now purely grinding, but the community is not all that good anymore, just because of the great ones, you are judged by the amount of great ones, i hate grinding, and i love walking around and shoot animals, that is the reason why i recently bought Way of the Hunter.
For me CotW start to look like CoD, where all goes about stats and not about fun, the game is formed around the bigger content creators and not for the players. The fans of some bigger creators are doing what the creator says or does, and the developers think that the whole community wants that,
I am not impressed with the content maps they launched, after Te Awaroa,
I got them all but play most on Hirshfelden and TeAwaroa, thise are the best maps in my opinion, Finland i played for 2 weeks and is meh, Emerald coast the same, not even mentioning the mountain map i dont even know its name out of my head,

Not to name drop but ScareCrow has effectively killed this game, turning it into a cookie clicker great one grind fest. EW sees the views he pull and then develops the game in that style not realizing how detrimental it was to identity of the game. I’m a hunter ins real life and I want to escape into COTW for a similar experience. Fast travelling to need zones and shooting Irish elk fallow deer is not what I’m looking for. I’ve taken a extended break form the game and won’t return until heard management exploit is addressed…

I agree, the game has changed so much and thus the community has started to change too. We all used to enjoy the hunt and just the hunt. Now, things are more about the grind and only the grind

It's not him alone. There are plenty of Content Creators who grind, myself included. Once it became more known, everyone had started grinding. To clarify, I think most of the content creators out there are absolutely awesome. They look to add new challenges to the game and spice up their content from just the boring grind.

Agreed by no means is Crow alone it’s a large part of the community that leaned into HM including some of my favorite creators like KC. I was just using him as an example because of how his channel grew with the usage of heard management. My point was just that there are ways EW could address tent hopping HM like limiting time between fast travel, erasing need zones, or using a spawn mechanic similar to classic. Then focus more on the details and environment of the game. Instead we get updates that only enhance the need and desire to do heard management. I don’t care if Jaxy said it was ok once on stream, taking advantage of a spawn mechanic was not how the game was designed to be played, and has fundamentally changed the course of the game from being a hunting simulator, to a RNG tent hopper simulator…

Just my opinion, but I agree with you however I feel like cotw has become a great game and there is a lot of people who enjoy being able to go to a lake and find animals. I for one don't have the time to spend hours tracking, and it is really good just to be able to jump quickly from lake to lake. I think that games like the hunter classic and way of the hunter can be great to get some realisim if you want it. however sometimes the reason you play is not for realisim. anyway as I said just my opinon.
    Cheers

Thanks for your opinion. My dissapointment is that COTW started as a simulation. It's gone through a big change and is now more arcadey than ever. Thanks again for sharing your opinion in a respectful way :)

It is a dumb game. Animals most of the time are concentrated on need zones, no realism.

  • @Burnt_Shadows

I've played the game different from others I guess, I don't use the grind theme of tents and tripods, I hunt just like I would in real life, I tract the blood trails, I shoot the bigger animals and leave the smaller and females alone, I hunt drink zones, feed zones and rest zones just like you would in real life. Getting the Great One is not a priority for me, doing the hunts as I would in real life is. You want missions setup with a great one at the end of it, how quick would the game be over if that's all it was, jumping from tent to tent for a grind knowing that it's RNG that will determine how soon the GO appears so you can move to the next one is not something I'd enjoy. Your trying to fill the trophy lodges, so you can admire the game that you've harvested, that's great but then what.. sounds like your looking for something else. You can play the game however you'd like, your trying to find a way to get more viewers but the game isn't really offering many options, go play something else, those that are here for the hunt will keep playing until something else grabs their attention. IMO
