      @@Shame_Wizard A bad idea in what way? Solo and co-op give newer players a chance to get into the game without being stomped by a griefer with a maxed out ship. Or just for people who want to play the game without dealing with other people at all. Sure the game feels a bit empty without other players, but it's a game about space, it's gonna be empty regardless :P
      As for Sea of Thieves, there's no reason not to include a solo/co-op option for maps...EXCEPT that rare has made the boneheaded decision of making players the content as well. When the game first released, the only things to do were do the 3 company voyages, skeleton forts or kill other players, then slowly other things were released and even an arena mode to take some of the more bloodthirsty people and push them over there. Tall tales were an entirely PvE focused experiences and even Pirates Life was more of the same. Season passes reward you for literally everything and even the REAPER'S BONES (The PVP based faction) doesn't even care where your loot comes from and will give you emissary experience just for grabbing stuff from the dirt or ocean.
      The game can be played and completed entirely in a solo setting, but Rare refuses to add the option because without other players, they know the world would be empty, shallow, boring and easy.

    This sparks a theory in my mind. Just before the Sov's showed up in the seas, DeMarco was murdered. And then when they did show up, suddenly Ramsey is the biggest suspect for the murder. On top of that, DeMarco was trying to *leave* the Sea of Thieves... which would put him into the hands of the GMU. What if the Sovereigns caught DeMarco right as he parted the shroud to get through, allowing a handful of them to get through with this rare opportunity, murdered him in cold blood, then framed Ramsey for it and (if they succeed in framing him) used it to get rid of him, therefore getting rid of a big hurdle in their plans to take over the seas

    I have two theories on this:
    A) The Soverigns/GMU will act as an intervention, potentially extending the Flameheart arc by interrupting the final conflict, thus forcing both sides to work together to rid the Seas of GMU influence. Then the Cap'n may be introduced, resulting in a huge 4 way showdown where our enemies conveniently destroy each other.
    B) Rare is setting up a three act story, and is setting up The Sovereigns/GMU to be the "Act 2" antagonists after Flameheart is defeated, with the Cap'n being the third and final "Act".

    • @rukuriri
      @rukuriri 2 роки тому +6

      Personally I think the GMU are the final choice. Personal theory is that war will occur between the main factions in the SoT maybe with Athena’s fortune having to pick the lesser of two evils to side with: the dark brethren or flameheart. Then whichever side wins forces their worldview on the seas which therefore makes the players seem hypocrites e.g. pirates want freedom - flameheart gives you the freedom to not do anything as no trading activities exist. The GMU are thus the final choice for pirates either:
      - continue to live under tyrany and malice
      Or
      - destroy the shroud allowing the GMU and the empires of the world to stake claim to the SoT making it ‘safe’

  • @Smoking_Tiger
    @Smoking_Tiger 2 роки тому +6

    I suppose it depend on what type of pirate you are. If you are more of a PvE type (especially solo), sovereigns can be great for you. You focus primarily on finding treasure, trading goods, fighting the undead, and following the Tall Tales. If you want to stand by the pirate legacy of freedom and no rules, particularly if you are a PvP focused player, stay with the reapers and avoid using the sovereigns as third-party delivery service to the other factions. Either way, the change might be inevitable.
    To me, this almost parallels the real-life story of piracy. Many well-known pirates wanted to be free to do whatever they wanted, no matter how atrocious and cruel, so that they could be free to chase riches and not have to be told what to do or how to live by anyone else. Eventually, the East India Company would dominate the trade along the seas, and the major Spanish and English naval forces would be dispatched to put down problematic pirates. Military, privateering, and trading on behalf of the Company or the Crown became the new way of life on the seas as Piracy slowly diminished.
    Granted, Sea of Thieves has its own lore and story. It will tell this part of the story in its own way, but there seems to be at least some parallel to the real history. On another perspective, player count is not where it could be. I'm sure Rare will eventually upgrade the servers to support more than 5 players in one game, expand the world size, continue to introduce more PvE content, and slowly make the game more friendly for PvE players and solo players. Rare wants this game to last for another several years. which means they now have to make the game more playable for newcomers and returning players. That means convenience and individual capability, and apparently in the way of selling treasure to the Sovereigns in Season 7. That's probably just the start.

    Saying that siding with the Reapers would ensure your "freedoms aren't being encroached upon" is mistaken. Flameheart's intentions have always been clear, to become a despotic ruler over The Sea of Thieves. Even the uniform is about stripping a pirate's individuality to become his "Gold Mask Gestapo". I said the same thing during Lost Sands, that Flameheart's "freedom" rhetoric is just bait for misled minions to flock to him.
    A fight between Flameheart and GMU would just be a battle between two tyrants. What I'd like to see is a similar adventure centering Merrick and the other "forces of good" having a "I never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an elf" moment with the Reapers, both sides having a mutual investment in The Sea of Thieves remaining independent.
    Also: This isn't a condemnation of Reaper fans. I think Flameheart is a well-written character and it's cool to side with the baddies since it's all in good fun.

    I feel the simplest explanation is that the GMU want a monopoly over the sea of thieves and to have all pirates sell their treasure through them, and the sovereigns ‘partnering’ with the current factions is a start, but I think their end goal is getting rid of Athena’s fortune and the pirate lord along with the reapers, and in doing so, the other factions will be pretty easily destroyed, and of course the reapers are the biggest threat to this objective, as the GMU is the complete opposite of the reapers. The only thing I’m confused about is how they got through the shroud, and how the sovereigns immediately new what they should do despite not being able to contact the GMU because of the shroud. My best guess is that it has something to do with DeMarcos death which has kinda been glossed over, but he did want to leave the sea of thieves and perhaps he found a way to get out but that let the sovereigns in who then killed him and framed Ramsey.

    -GMU don't know much about sea of the damned, ramsey and flameheart and dark brethren can help them with that.
    -Dark brethren don't have much physical force bc they only have some phantoms on their side and GMU have great navy and probably land army
    -Dark brethren can help GMU get throught the shroud
    -GMU can make dark brethren leaders some sort of governors in sea of thieves

    New skull dropped from frost skeleton lord that shoots ice (similar to the ashen lord skull)

    I'm very conflicted both about the golden sands v reapers, and the usage of the maritime union.
    The way I see the former: Golden Sands is a "safe haven" for most pirates, same as all outposts, somewhere to start your adventure. I enjoy having a nice place to sell things and stock up, enjoying the songs and grog in the tavern. The Reapers are exactly everything I find off about the sea of thieves. I understand that the whole point of the game is "piracy", looting and shooting, sinking and drinking, but I still can't help but feel that the sea of thieves was meant to be more than that. It was meant to unite pirates in a world while still allowing them to be free to fight and pillage to their hearts content. The Reapers want you to go out, sink others, and bring everything back to them, which just sounds like a witch hunt for loot. They also seem very sinister, and who knows what they are hiding under that platform...
    I'm not telling anyone how to play of course, it's up to you after all, I just prefer to show a bit more compassion on the seas myself; The Reapers in my eyes seem to just be kill, kill, kill.
    As for the Maritime Union, I enjoy being able to sell fast and get back out on the seas. Though I am also very wary of them, because they could very well be the beginning of the end of the Sea of Thieves. If they end up spreading their influence and roots across the sea it could end up becoming a replica of the world beyond the Shroud, the exact thing pirates set out to escape. I hope it doesn't come to that, but we'll have to wait and see..
