I sprinkle a bit of sugar on top of each pan of batter before baking & this helps eliminate rounded tops & the need to cut. No crumbs to deal with.
Hello I want to say that I love baking but cake leveling is simply not my thing so this video really helped. Thanks!!
you are so very welcome hope it goes better next time you give it a try!
If only I had a turn table now
You have certainly taken this to a new level with me to be straight with you !
This is the absolute best way to level a cake!! I have tried different levelers that I purchased and they do not work as you said in your video. This works every time!! Thanks so much!
You are welcome! I am glad you enjoyed the video
I love this! I'm making my first layered cake and I feel so much more confident. This is always the most intimidating part 😅
You got this! I am so glad it helped!
You got this! I am so glad it helped!
I have cake levelers for several different size cakes & I use my knife the same as in this video & they come out perfect each time plus I can get the layers as thin as a quarter inch! As for the “one with the wire”, that’s not a “leveler” at least mine says it’s not a leveler. It’s just to make the top flat!
You explain it so well and I appreciate your relaxed mannerisms. Cake decorating should be fun :)
Thank you! let me know how the decorating goes!
Wow! That is so helpful! I can't wait to try it out. Looks way better than any other method I have tried. Thank you!
+Meegan N thank you so much! good luck!
This worked so well I don’t even have a turn table so I just used a cooling rack aha. I’ve only made a cake 3 times and it was perfect
I am so happy to hear that, good job!
This is genius! Thank you so much.
love the tip and being able to do it without having to buy a new tool.
Thank you so much i really need this tutorial.
I'm happy it was helpful!
Amazing thank you so much !! I’m making my son’s bday cake and this worked so well! I dreaded this part, but now it’s not so scary haha
Awesome tips here!! Thank you!!
+Heather Scroggins thank you!

thank you so much +Cookin with Surfin Sapo Even a cake stand on a spice rack turn table works great, anything that spin's smoothly! have fun!
ok Great!!!
Thank you so much for making this super fast and very efficient video! It helped me so much!!! I can’t believe you don’t have more views for this video . Thank you again for doing such a wonderful job and explaining everything so it can be so simple ❤️❤️❤️🤗
Thanks so much that was so helpful
Very helpful, thank you! 👏💕
Use a wet paper towel wrapped in aluminum foil folded to about 2". Wrap around pan and fold down
press any against bottom and make sure that the pan sets level. This keeps the circumference from
cooking faster than the center pushing uncooked batter toward the center. Results no dome in center.
mack gray yes I bought cake strips from amazon works the same way
Gadear Ayed do you have to cut it afterwards at all? Or do you just leave it and it’s fine for decorating?
I owe you my life ma’am
This was so helpful thanks!
cant wait to use this trick! how long should i cool my cake before cutting?
This was amazing! Thank you!
Thanks for the tips
Happy to help!
Great guide. Having a cake emergency here. What if you don't have a turntable?
Worked for me😁
Thankyou
Thanks!
Should the cake be cold like from the fridge cold before slicing?
How about for square or rectangle cakes? Any tips??
Hi, now I see this cakes, I have to say I always have a problem to make my cake sponge, and usually is dry...
which is the best recipe for dipping or drunk sponge cake? I'm sure you must have a very good one
Thanks again :)
Love your videos. You're so friendly and genuine person. Happy 2016! PS: Do you have any recipes to share? I need to bake a wedding cake (5 tiers) next year and I still don't find the "most trust" recipe (moist, good taste, and "steady") for such big project. Thanks! Keep sharing your great projects
+Lety Maciel Thank you so much! I don't share CAKE recipes, since they are my business, but I share a ton of other recipes on my blog.
Thanks anyway. You're awesome! Happy 2016.
+Lety Maciel Happy New years to you too!
😄 🍽
Hi Ashlee!!!! Is it the same process if you wanted to get two cake layers out of one? Your videos are inspiring keep up the good work!
split a cake layer in half so you get two thinner layers? yes, same thing. and thank you so much!
Hi Ashlee, that is one of my problems, I bought the serated cake leveller and you are right its not always even when you cut your layers through. The problem is I would like to know what if you have used this device and found once you cut your layers they are uneven which is the best way to get them even again?
that's why I don't recommend using them, I've never seen one that didn't bend and leave uneven layers since they are just so very thin and pliable. My knife is super strong and doesn't bend at all. honestly if you use a leveler and are left with uneven cakes I'd say do your best to blance the uneven sides, if one side is taller match it up to the short side on the other layer. The center will be uneven but hopefully the over call cake is even. Trying to fix it by cutting more and more and more and more off will leave you with almost no cake and a lot of scraps.
Yes I tried that still came out with being a little uneven. Thanks for your advice great tips. It annoys me though when the cake stores sell all these devices and they dont work properly.
do you level your cakes right out if the freezer? and do you put your cake in the fridge between buttercream layers?
+Aisha Wilson i NEVER put cake in the fridge, it dries it out. I usually let them thaw a bit before leveling (I carve cakes frozen, but level more thawed.
hi ashlee. do you level your cake before or after freezing ?
coz whenever I level the cake after freezing & thawing, sometimes the center of the cake is still hard
great question - after - I don't want to cut into it before freezing that would release a TON of steam and moister, and the whole point of freezing while it's warm is to trap that steam in the cake. Just let it thaw completely before leveling and you'll be fine. honestly I carve my cakes frozen so a little frozen center doesn't bother me
+Ashlee Marie Cakes btw, for time saving, can i freeze a cake that has already buttercream filling (just filling, No crumbcoat/frosting) ? I'll wrap them tightly though....
thanks for your advice
you can chill them for a few mins, but I personally wouldn't freeze them, but you can freeze cake and you can freeze frosting so other then the condensation causing issues it is safe
What if you don't have a turn table?
I think I need to invest in a cake turner...
How do you make more slices within each layer for a torte?
the same way - just be careful not to cut too thin! and when it does get thin use a cardboard circle to slide between and pick up the layer vs trying to use your hands.
What if I don’t have a turntable?
hi ashlee do u have that recipe of ur cake?i want try it?
I haven't put this recipe up yet - working on getting al lmy cake recipes up eventually
Hi, is the knife that you are using a bread knife? If not, would a bread knife work? Thanks. I love you tips!
its a 10" serrated blade - I bought this one cause it's long but not thin and bendable like so many - yes you can cut bread with it but also roasts, poultry and seafood - it's amazing amzn.to/1TElX3O
Who is this tips that you love?
hi, what cake recipe did u use for this video?
it's a lemon cake - but it works on any recipe
2:34... looks a little lop sided to me.
Thankyou , we don’t need extra tools to buy and store
The tools I use are not necessary, they just make cake leveling much easier
I won't be able to do that as well as you do. I'm a klutz.
I am about to rebake 5 6 inch cakes since I found this video and my layered cake looks like the leaning tower of pizza 🤦♀️
What do I do I dont have a turnt table
Here is a great way to make your own turntable! ua-cam.com/video/64M8fC2nolI/v-deo.html
Give your table some drinks and a little molly, crank the music and I assure you your table will be turnt.
My dad used a jig saw
Haha yes I haven't tried power tools yet but I'm sure it worked!
You’re cutting a cake, not doing a set of squats
people take cakes seriously, if thats not you move along🗿
Israel Aguilar Ramirez she’s literally warming up like she’s about to run in the Olympics though 😂
I'm sorry but your earrings distracted me.
😂 wtf
