Exactly! This is how I know I'm a crummy chess player. I can't think of all of the possibilities and I always have to wait to see what my opponent will do before I can plan a response. It is amazing to see how he uses the other person's clock time...

Tbh it was tough to find alternatives... As a 1700 I probably would played bishop d4, the rook move looked so passive and I want to unravel my pieces a bit, but everything looks like the position is crumbling, the rook defending the knight still looks horrific optically
@@martixxlol5817 rook b1 doesn't achieve much is the issue, the queen can take on a2, or just reposition to somewhere more useful, meaning he either gains a pawn or makes a useful move meanwhile you've shifted the rook only one space. The Queen is in a good position where it is very difficult to trap/force a trade so the best option it to continue with the aggression and keep the opponent occupied with their side of the board and give as little opportunity for them to actually move their queen. Problem is hikaru is too good so he left basically no open windows for an attack

Make no mistake there are some interesting moves and styles of play that happen in these settings. He's just checking to see what's out there in the chess world. It's one thing to study theory, openings and chess engines, it's another thing to come up with moves that no one would expect would work .
Watching Hikaru make move after move that just tightens the screws, while having no clue how he does it, only serves to convince me I'm never getting past 500...
when you watch any other titled player play, you actually expect the eval bar to generally jump here and there in blitz. it's always like this. just look at the recent games with the coffee chess crew titled players, or nemo, or alex botez. how in the hell is it that with 1 minute against 5, hikarus moves are still so ridiculously precise for such an overwhelming majority of the time.
The time thing isn't as big a deal as people think. By the time you've figured out what to do he's calculated the response to any reasonably move you might do so he just has to move the piece on his time. All the thinking is on your time.
He is one of the best players in the world, especially blitz. He has seen these moves and positions many times before and does not have to think too much about the move until late mid or endgame

It's very rare that I myself have ever had that giddy feeling of facing off against a true professional in a hobby that I am passionate about. The moment hikaru's opponent saw that all of his pieces were being threatened simultaneously he had to laugh at how skilled and professional Hikaru was and how thoroughly and efficiently he had been defeated.

Strong openers will break you into 800-900. I'm stuck just under 1000 because I can't close for shit haha
