This is NOT a controller, it is a standalone unit, no laptop needed at all, and thank DENON for that because II have been waiting for a real reason to pass along my old Pioneer equipment.
Few reasons why I have ordered this one: 1. Backup to my Prime 4 setup, 2. Additional music source for other than main room music, 3. Preparation gear for my engine music collection and playlist on the go, or in the sofa at home - no cables just headphones. 4. Main unit for smaller gigs or guest-gigs, if your ever transported Prime 4 in a flight case, you know what I am talking about. 5. The gear to take to your summer vacation with you and enjoy play and prepare sessions anywhere. 6. A toy for my kids to play with and learn DJing. 👏
I just tried the Prime Go at the park and let me tell you!.... it’s awesome. People were looking for power cables. My set up was all solar power. Thank you DENON🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻😊
I think the people who would take a dump on the Prime Go are people who already are deep into DJing. I searched "Small Standalone DJ Controller" a few days ago and was amazed to see this product had just emerged in the market, I'm not a DJ but I'm a performing musician and wanted something I could play back tracks with at gigs without the need for a computer, and this is exactly what I was searching for. Expensive? Maybe, but since I have an essential job, my stimulus checks' going toward one of these awesome little dudes. Great video man, keep up the good work.
I have the Denon DJ Prime 4 after switching from Pioneer and the transition has been challenging, but in a good way because I have lost the laptop now. When I saw the Prime Go I said want one because that would be good for my wedding ceremonies and as a back up unit. Denon DJ are definitely moving in the right direction and innovating and that is what the controller market needed. Standalone units are the future and I believe Denon DJ are leading the way.
I like this controller for my weekly community gigs that does not require a lot of mixing. So much easier than bringing my huge SX3 with a laptop. Less setup and tear down!
Dude, this is no where near the SX3, just get over the novelty! The SX3 is easy to carry and a laptop goes without saying...even the Denon MC4000 is a better buy than this for features and thats not a big controller!
It’s cool because it is a combo mixer and laptop. So wayyyy different from an pioneer SX3. And is perfect when no power is present and a generator won’t get it done. Perfect for that situation
Karizma231 So true, the output quality is something I didn’t learn was important until recently, thinking they were all the same, and then learning the difference was night and day in a live setting.
Karizma231 I found it out through using Arranger Keyboards in my DJ setup where basically it is a DJ controller but with built in Rhythm box, on the left you play the chords with accompaniment and on the right you play the different notes using strings, horns, etc. the models I compared were Korg’s professional Arranger 600 vs their Professional Arranger 700 going directly into speakers with no mixer in between and the difference in the 700 was night and day. With my DJ controller I’m using a DDJ SR but rarely ever go direct into the speakers without a mixer in between because I feel I am operating at half capacity, if I raise the bass, it lacks in power vs having it connected to that mixer that will highly improve the sound. The reason I am loving looking at these Denon units is because with all the talk about the improved high quality xlr outputs, it will save me that mixer in between for the music and the microphones being able to eq them from the unit and hopefully that sound quality direct from the controller is beautiful. I am not impressed at all with my pioneer when going direct out using the 1/4 outs, and there is no microphone eq at all just resulting in line level volume only and I have to absolutely crank the master and levels sometimes to get what I would have at unity on an external mixer. Happy to talk about this! How about you did you have any specific DJ models you upgraded from and felt and heard the difference?
This looks like a great a great upgrade for a ceremony set up. It will eliminate the use of a control board and iPad. Pair this with a battery wireless transmitter and a battery speaker with battery receiver and you are truly wireless.
I’ve been waiting for years for something like this...having come from the world of Wax and Technics SL-1210’s, I was able to withstand CD mixing when it took over BUT as soon as Serato etc and the need for laptops came in, I stopped DJing...But now that this is here and and I have one in my hands...I can say it’s good to be back!!!
Just got mines this week! It is awesome and I can do basic scratches pretty well on it, just need a tighter curve for more advance cuts. Just waiting on my 2 MAUI 5 GO’s to pair with it for small gigs and wedding ceremonies...
I think this unit is a clear sign of the times. I imagine after we recover from this pandemic bars and clubs would be a thing of the past, so impromptu events where you need to be able to set up quickly with few resources is where a unit like this meets it's potential. I think this stand alone unit and it's form factor may become a standard in mobile DJing. I agree with you about the Bluetooth for a completely wireless rig
I would love this for pool or beach parties. You can do a ceremony in the middle of anywhere, with a usb Blu tooth enabler and hook up those Bose battery powered speakers. In my experience I’ve done weddings in the Florida Keys in the middle of the beach, hiding wires in the sand is no fun because it takes away at least two hours of prep time to running a few 100 ft. extension cords. Denon is defiantly on to something great.
Awesome unit... I think perfect for eg ceremonies eg where u have ur main setup at reception. Or just quick setup at home parties. Definitely has its place

Hee there, I saw already this Prime go in january but it still not available. I really like to have one and saved the money for it already. I think it is very handy as a mobile DJ but also to make mixes for mixcloud or so. Only problem is that the whole business is flat because of the Corona and a real gig is not in sight for this moment I presume.
I do wish it would have a flip up screen. My neck gets tired if I just forget my laptop stand cause I’m blind and have to look close to the screen. The price is justifiable. What’s the max amount of memory to plug in? Like if I plug in a hard drive, what’s the largest capacity it can read?
People are always going to say it doesn't have something or why didn't they do this. The fact is Denon is thinking on a much higher platform than their competition. The competition is not innovating. In fact their stagnant. I don't need this peice of kit. I want it. And no one could argue that it makes being a DJ. Just plain fun. Will it increase my marketability; maybe. Being able to have that Bose S1 & Prime go; and DJ anywhere. Is worth that price tag. To bad, the pandemic messed up parties & gatherings for a long time.
I have a prime 4 and absolutely love it but I see the Prime GO as more or less of a backup unit to many DJs that want one just in case of failure whilst gigging. At $1700+ (AUD) it's super pricey though! for a backup and I don't think it'll sell well in the Australian market. As you mentioned, the industry probably isn't ready for something like this as it's the first of its kind. Once more alternatives become available and prices lower than will be the time to purchase a backup unit.
I would like this as a second controller but not as my main one. Use this for small gatherings or for practicing. Maybe get the Prime 4 or 2 and have this as my mobile choice since they both run the same software.
If I didn't have a controller I would look at this. I know it eliminates the need for a laptop but could you add one if you wanted to? If this answer is yes then I would tell all beginners to get this one. If it would allow a laptop you will have the best of both worlds.
I didn't realise it's so small. Wow. The pitchfaders are too small to me. I think those of my DDJ-SR are already too small (and why I started using sync lol). Does Denon Engine have elastic beatgrids?

dj barr great review. Could be great for wedding ceremony play list or amature dj upgrading from mixtrack. Like your product reviews keeping the dj world lit.
Uhh, your not a di unless you know this stuff? You cant just pick out random songs and throw them in to a mix. Track selection is more important then the physical act of djing.
hey watched practically all the reviews on this controller thinking about saving for this or so looking at the unit battery is going to be a big problem as the cells start to deplete over time I think that it should have a hatch for battery replacement.
After seeing multiple reviews on this unit, I really don't think it offers anything special except as a back up device if your computer cashes during a set. I rather use 1 of my Numark controllers which uses usb power from the laptop for prep. It just seems like a luxury device at this point. As @chadnliz2k11 said "iPad with Algoriddim Djay Pro for iOS," is a better option among others.
I would love to have this to perform . It's simple in its handling but powerful. Love that. That being said, I am also attracted by the complete opposite, the XDJ XZ for the feel. I know the pioneer is behind technology speaking (Prime 4 and 2 also considered), but I cannot deny that this is more convenient. Image is a big part of this industry, and sadly we almost new DJ's suffer from that. I am in that crossroad right now. What do you think?
Unless you own or plan to buy a pair of CDJs or turntables, I wouldn't waste the money on the XDJ XZ. The jog wheels are nice, but unless you're using external players it's just a much bigger, heavier, more expensive XDJ RX2 in terms of functionality. The prime go seems like an ideal casual secondary controller to me, fun to chuck in a backpack, but lacking for serious use. I'd be looking at the RX2 or the denon prime 2 personally, the prime 2 is definitely better in terms of tech, but the RX2 has a proper analog mixer with line/phono inputs and hardware effects. It all depends on what sort of use you hope to get from it.
It's a great product overall but I feel it's a little bit overpriced. They also have to have daylight mode since this product will be used outdoors. Of course you go Briansredd stylyand just use an Amazon Fire tablet only costing around $100
the music will not magically appear on the Prime Go. DJs need a computer to prep music, update firmware etc maybe not the top end MacBook Pro . 999 is a bit too much, make it a round 499, they will sell bucket loads. Great video. 👍🏾
I just bought one but I got to say the truth here... I love it but at a $1000 price range and has no sampler for effects???? that is just the dumbest thing somebody can do with a product that should be made for djs. luckily I have other equipment and will be taking prime go around with me as mobile equipment but yet and still it's a real set back to be creative and hype up the vibe for crowds. they should upgrade the system to make sampler available. shift and bank 🤷♂️
It's far from an entry level controller, maybe not as fully featured, but by no means entry level! The main point of this controller is the ability to take it with you and practice on the train / plane or beach. The fact it's stand alone with that impressive screen also makes it unique and way ahead of anything Pioneer offers in this price range! In fact, can you even get a standalone Pioneer unit for $999? I'll answer for you, NO, the closest is the XDJ-RR for about $1300 and even that's basic for a controller.
Good review of the product @DjBarr 👍 In my opinion, this is not for pro djs, this is a #RichKidToy , only lasts 4 hours. smh A way better & cheaper alternative: -- The Hercules dj control Starlight -- (Yes you need your laptop, but it's usb powered to your laptop, has 4 square pads, weighs nothing, is smaller & ONLY $89.99!!!) @DjBarr please review the Hercules Starlight and save us all $900 dollars & change. Lol -MB
Sheesh that thing is ugly and horrible jogs yeah, nah, way too basic feature wise, a sample section is almost a must have, expensive and an 4 hour battery is weak. I would actually prefer an non battery option. Get a 2nd hand 2015 Macbook pro and a midrange controller and you will still have change in your pocket, quite a bit of it. I like the idea though. A single unit (with a quality soundcard) and a pair of powered speakers is an ongoing step forward for mobile but it looks like Denon have done it in baby shoes this time round and slapped the babies face instead of its backside!
Good controller but there's no way on earth imma pay $999 for this 😂. I'd rather get the ddj-800 for $100 dollars less or an all in one pioneer controller like the RR for the same price.
Gabriel. DDJ800 is only MIDI Controller. Without a computer you will be useless...! You'll pay $ 2500 or more for the DDJ800 controller + powerfull laptop (exm. Mac pro). XDJ RR is FAKE all in one system. RR too expensive, considering what it can do. XDJ RR still require laptop and managemant software for prepare music: 1. import song and create music library, 2. analyze songs (cerate beatgrid, BPM detect. Key detect), 3. Create playlists & playlists folder, 4. Edit beatgrid grid and more library functions... Denon Prime GO no need any music management (laptop) software, for theese functions. you can keep it at that price a thousand pound 200, no chance , can get a reeloop touch for 500 quid does more than that
I’m thinking of buying it but I feel like it’s smaller then my denon mc4000
*than
Can you download music from the controller?
It downloads to stream only. Song will go away and you'll have to stream it again.
Scratching Lotto you can just record it on an external recorder
C’mon Pioneer I need you to answer, but I provably would never use batteries and those jogs are a turn off
Not mirroring EQ is biggest mistake. Bass knobs should be outside and rest in. Dealbraker
is that mixer virtual dj or searto dj
After seeing multiple reviews on this unit, I really don't think it offers anything special except as a back up device if your computer cashes during a set. I rather use 1 of my Numark controllers which uses usb power from the laptop for prep. It just seems like a luxury device at this point. As @chadnliz2k11 said "iPad with Algoriddim Djay Pro for iOS," is a better option among others.
No. That price point! Denon would put pioneer out of business with competitive pricing they have the better gear 2020
It all depends on what sort of use you hope to get from it.
wish you could install an SDD but cant have everything...
Tidal implemented in it?
Yes. Soundcloud too. Comming soon Beatport & Beatsousrce
It's a great product overall but I feel it's a little bit overpriced. They also have to have daylight mode since this product will be used outdoors.
Of course you go Briansredd stylyand just use an Amazon Fire tablet only costing around $100
viewing angle and screen brightness is excellent
even in strong daylight. No need daylight mode. I have tested it
What is the price.....
$999.99 usd
It's value for $999.99
the music will not magically appear on the Prime Go. DJs need a computer to prep music, update firmware etc maybe not the top end MacBook Pro . 999 is a bit too much, make it a round 499, they will sell bucket loads. Great video. 👍🏾
No sampler sound effects???? Ah man...
Bad bunny !!!!!
Bluetooth has a delay time that ruins the mixing, - u Dont want bluetooth connectivity between the controller and the speakers.
No. $900 is a lot. In my view, it is an entry level controller. Pros, ( I am not) want working jog wheels.
Good review of the product @DjBarr 👍
In my opinion, this is not for pro djs, this is a #RichKidToy , only lasts 4 hours. smh
A way better & cheaper alternative:
-- The Hercules dj control Starlight --
(Yes you need your laptop, but it's usb powered to your laptop, has 4 square pads, weighs nothing, is smaller & ONLY $89.99!!!)
@DjBarr please review the Hercules Starlight and save us all $900 dollars & change. Lol

no mic ef x
Barr will not buy that unit, way too small & I won't either
This is nice, but not for me.
Please don't say "whip this out" so much hahaha
Good controller but there's no way on earth imma pay $999 for this 😂. I'd rather get the ddj-800 for $100 dollars less or an all in one pioneer controller like the RR for the same price.
Gabriel Fula-Pinto i literally bought the ddj 800 after this was announced. I’m loving it
Prime GO is really all in one system - NO LAPTOP REQUIRED!
No desire for this product from me at all.
