Not sure that I agree with the one type of microlight is better than another but there is a great appeal with both. My wife loves going up in / on flex wings, I like flying 3 axis but have flown hang gliders and powered hand gliders and agree that you definently feel in contact with the air. I am so happy the flex wings are coming back and I think that has a lot to do with Ben and Flylight at least in the UK.
Although I now fly 3 axis, it's only because my shoulders can no longer take the hammering they got when I flew flexwings. On top of which, I have very little grip strength for holding the base tube of the A frame, so I had to migrate to the 'dark side'! However, given the choice, I'd still much rather fly a flex if my body allowed it. You feel that you're a part of the air you're flying through, and you feel every single gust and eddy of the air, however small it may be. But whichever type of microlight you choose to fly, be proud that you're the best pilots of light aircraft in the UK.
I am looking forward to getting started later on this year. I've been wanting to fly microlights since the early 80s. Usual story, family got in the way. I blame Giles Fowler for getting me hooked again. A fellow ex RAF engineer
To learn to fly, no difference. To maintain an aeroplane, it depends on which one! To buy - in the UK you can buy either a flexwing or a 3-axis for less than £5000 - or a share in one for less than that. A typical second-hand 'average' flexwing is usually a bit cheaper than a 3-axis but there is a very wide choice. The most expensive brand new flexwings are around £55,000 but the most expensive new 3-axis can be £230,000.
@@BritishMicrolighting wow, what an answer thanks for that. I'm scared of flying so I need to conquer it 😂😂😂 there's a airport nearby so I should take the 20 minute taster 😂😂 cheers
Great Job promoting what we get to experience and enjoy, What a gift!!!
