Very nice review of the Laxce Sensor pickups... I have an American Standard 1990 model with the Gold Lace Sensor...and absolutely love it still.... good to hear someone spreading the love...
I have always loved the sound of Gold Lace Sensors. Recently I acquired a Clapton strategy with original gold Lace Sensors. That combination is an unbelievable tone. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
Great review ! I have a strat plus, bought new in 95. It's my number 1. You're right. in 2007, a famous french luthier told me that the strat plus were the best strat that fender made ! 2 years ago, I replaced them with handcrafted pickups, to try. 2 months later, I put back the lace sensor gold. The lace sensors are much better, clean, crunch, drive.... I wouldn't change pickups anymore ! I bought this year another strat plus of 96, with rosewood fretboard. My second number 1.
Ritchie Blackmore too. From 99' on he uses Lace Sensor Gold on his live guitars and recorded Rainbow 'Stranger in Us All' with them. To me as a kid from the 80's the Lace Golds are what a Stratocaster should sound like.
I totally agree on your comment that the Stratocaster Plus was Fender's best. I have a 1989 model (with the ball-bearing roller nut) and the tone just does it for me: no pickup hum and that 'real' 50's sound.
Your guitar with the Sensors but regular bone nut was the American Standard Deluxe. I agree--it is amongst the best Strats Fender ever made. Bought mine in '89 and still have it. Good review! Lace needs to get more demos/information out there. They are too good to be ignored and they largely are.
I agree with all that you say, and thank you for such a laid-back sensible video. I've just fitted Lace Golds to my American Strat, and wondered where you were on on setting the heights? Lace seem to think a few mm is fine, and Fender say 0.170 inch, which is a much bigger gap. I know that you'll probable say " I set mine for my best tone" Ha Ha. Bets wishes from Bob a UK fan.
The great thing about Lace Sensors is there isn't a lot of magnetic pull to interfere with the intonation. So you can set them reasonably higher than pole pups. However, after a lot of experimentation I finally set them every low. The Golds give more of a vintage sound in my opinion when set closer to the body. I wanted less on the guitar and more at the amp. Start with the neck and try it there first and see what you think.
Well done sir! SO many options for Strat pickups. Eric Johnson, Seymour Duncan, Tex-Max, etc. Very confusing. But you did a fantastic presentation. I have an Eric Clapton model and I believe that the boost on it may give more beef to the Tele sound. Guess I'll find out someday :)
I'm trying to decide what I want to put in my 07 mim strat. The stock are hotter Ceramics and good with distortion but now I like playing more cleans and want that Clapton tone, classic strat tone but not jangly very Early sound. I read he had to mid 50s and 1 70s in blackie.
I would wait till the next big guitar show in your area. If you haven't tried the gold Lace Sensor pickups you probably find a Strat Plus or older Ultra to listen to. They're generally found at any show. What you probably won't find the best pickups I ever heard which are Virgil Arlo. They come with a very hefty price tag. Playing different guitars and amps at the show is my best advice. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Lace Sensors have a bit of extra compression, compared to a conventional single-coil. This is not a bad thing, considering that all recorded music you ever hear has some compression on it in mixing. But it does make for a difference in how you adjust all the rest of your settings.
I use a Keely Compressor primarily when I use the bridge pickup with the boost. To my ear it gives more of a Tele sound. Just a little rounder and less harsh.
The fs1 is a good pickup but is to bright for my liking. The gold lace Sensors definitely has more tone in the mid range giving it the more vintage sound. Just my opinion. Thank you for your question and for watching.
It's actually called EP exotic boost pedal. It has one control knob and is a small mini pedal. I've found it gives you a volume boost and midrange boost. There are other types of boost pedals on the market. It's just my favorite. Thank you for your question and for watching. I'll leave you a link about the EP boost www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EPBooster--xotic-ep-booster-pedal
@@davidmurphey9514 thanks Dave I,ll check it out! I love the sound of your strat! @@barbarasmith3579 I found the ultimate in Strat tones actually by accident. I refer you to my video called My Top secret Tele Mod. This may be extreme but there truly is nothing like it. Put a P90 in the middle. This is my go to guitar for all things. I still play my Strat on some songs. However in position 2 and 4. My Tele sounds like a Strat on Steroids
Great review, pretty guitar - my first guitar was a pink Hohner Strat a surprisingly good guitar, I now have Japanese Strats that I purchased back in the day. How do the Gold Lace Sensors compare to the standard (Silver) Lace Sensors? I prefer a hum free sound and/or Humbuckers - I have a Strat with two HBs. I was considering Lace Sensor Gold's or the Seymour Duncan Dave Murrey type single coil shaped humbuckers (similar to hot rails?) for one of my single pickup Strats. Thanks in advance 👍😊
I love Japanese Fenders. The Quality has always been outstanding. I wish I still had my Japanese Strat. The silver Lace sensor pups were just to bright. I found the gold to be noiseless and sounding more smooth and having a vintage tone. I've tried guitars with a mix of the Lace Sensors. Talk about a tone and volume nightmare. In my opinion the Fender strats of the 80s and 90s were the best ever made. A great deal came from the Gold Lace Sensors. There are several videos available with the different Lace Sensors. Put on some headphones when you listen. I hope this helps with your decision. The golds have always been my first choice when performing a mod.
@@davidmurphey9514 thanks, David, sound advice, I wasn't convinced by the Silver Lace Sensors either - I have some. The Golds do sound better. I've had a fair few Seymour Duncan pickups and they've been pretty good. Japanese Strats? I've always liked them, character, great quality and value etc. I had a Yamaha Pacifica for awhile, great quality but sterile by comparison. Back in the day Fenders and Gibson were going through a quality low and I've never regretted Fender Japan purchases. That's not to say that they're not better for some Seymour Duncan pickups or better machine-heads or trem. Thanks for the sage words, I'll listen to reviews with a pair of Bose QC 35's to get the best from them👍👍😊😊😊
Hi Dave thanks for this demo. you convinced me and i just grabbed a set of LS gold. just a question : can i install them where i want they have a specific neck/center/bridge position ? thanks à lot. 🤟🏿

So nice to see/hear someone do a good demo of these pickups.
Thank you.
I always thought Clapton's tone sounded better when he used these rather than the Noiseless on his later guitars.

What is an AP-boost? Azor pure boost ap-304??
Same with Jeff Beck - his tone on Guitar Shop and Frankie's House was superb. Can't recall if he was still using Lace's on Who Else?
