Ahhh the memories of the good old glass itch........ I do not miss those times at all! All power to you Ross, I have followed you for the past 10 or so months and can not believe how much progress you and your rag tag team and dear wife have completed. Magnificent job, the prep is the key a very very tedious key at times but the workmanship shows. Thank you for spending the time to allow us to enjoy the journey you are taking it helps my night shifts pass with motivation for some way way smaller projects around the house that I find very intolerable!
Gidday Stewart ,you can't imagine how much we appreciate your comment. The itch is certainly an issue and the kast couple of weeks the worst as I have laying in the bow compartments propping them for completion.Glad you can get some value from our channel I really do enjoy putting these videos together helps me rationalise what we are doing. All the best.Ross
Ross, just remember, the only way to eat an elephant is "one bite at a time". Your progress on your boat is tremendous, it really is starting to come together. We, your subscribers, can see the progress, every last little task that you have done, we see as one more step in completion. Thanks for taking us along.
Every time I watch one of your videos it reminds me that I need to finish my 12 foot OzGoose sailboat. It's 90% done. Thanks for the kick in the butt and the great videos.
Glad to see your normal 😎 people don't understand when you get the fog cloud over you and you need to get away till it clears they just think your being lazy lol You've got a good woman 👍🏼
It just keeps getting better and better. I don't blame you for losing it occasionally. The sheer number of tasks is mind boggling... and even the "little" tasks are big. Good on you!
I can't tell you how much joy I get out of watching and listening to you when you talk about this boat. The excitement you show is contagious. I'm glad to see you could sit when you were putting the cover putty on ,you definitely deserve to take it a little bit easier..Your wife is such a trooper doing all those hard jobs of sanding and cleaning. We will be praying the lowering and glueing the top to the bottom goes well and it all comes out how you want it too. God bless you and your wife with good health and many years of travelling the world in your new boat.
Knowing when to take a break is so important. Good to see you know when that time is. I know it is too late now, but a stuck screw can be released by heating the head with a soldering iron for a short time before unscrewing. It will even remove rusted in ones.
Awesome progress mate, I feel your pain as I'm restoring my rl24 trailer sailer, so much work at times for little achievement! Saying that i have a whole lot more admiration for you and your build! Congrats mate
Hey Ben.Doesn't seem to matter what size or type of boat it is it's all hard work.Just get into it.I have to push myself every day and sone days I just want to fluff around.Nothing like getting started though incremental progress gets it done.Have fun.Rossco
If it helps, I usually give the box of screws a liberal spray of machine oil. Easy to get out after cure. Usually it just ends up with a fine layer of oil on the screw and Bobs your Uncle. Hope to see you on the water, soonish.
Ros, love your work, and feel your frustrations. I’m stuck here on the North Norfolk coast, with its beaches and seals, with a hundred year storm on its way. I’m guessing neither of us would swap? Ever.
I said it a couple of videos ago it’s kinda funny watching you worm your way around in and around the inside the little parts of that catamaran. When it’s all over you should have a video of the funniest videos of Ross and his catamaran!!!
Thanks so much.Janet and I have enjoyed to Victoria 8 times. My favourite place is the Bent Mast Pub.So chilled.Gorgeous place Have paddled a lot of Vancouver Island over the last 20 years.Love Cowichan Bay and the Saltspring Island ,have friends there as well. Thanks so much for watching .Rossco
Ross you are absolutely right about clearing the head and reseting yourself. I am glad to see that you have people around that help make it easier to see that you need it every now again.
Boy I could feel your frustration ! So good to have a great paddling passion to get your head straight !!! Keep on pushing thru and you’ll be paddling every day as you sail around !
Hey Rossco, strong work as always. You may want to look at "fondant shaping ball tools" for shaping your Plasticine. They're the cats nads for making quick accurate radiused corners. It may be too late in your process but for $10 it's worth it. These are the same ones you pay 40 bucks from the composites suppliers.
I never imagined this amount of work to join hulls and deck after demolding, but thought, oh well, now those need to be joined and then you still have all the work ahead to make a boat out of the empty shell. How wrong I was! How appropriate was your imagination of the job when you started?
Where’s Jonnie or Sam when you need someone to get in those tiny areas. I’m the same build as you Rossco, but I’m not subtle enough to climb over those tiny bulkheads in the bow. Well a man needs to look after the meat and two veg!
If your glue one of your screws into the hole and can't get it out heat up an old screwdriver with a propane torch . that heat will transfer to the screw and you'll be able to back it right out
South Africa!! w000t!! When you were busy saying you cant find any resin in your country I was about to come comment and say you should try order some from South Africa, but 2 sentences later I realised you obviously know how much glass and resin they make here.
Gunna be the strongest boat ever produced. Awesome. Remember that it takes 10% of the time to do 90% of the work. It's all those fiddly 10%ers that take the rest of the 90% of the time on a build. In other news I only have one day out on the water to finish off my Day Skipper RYA course. Been a blast.
Perhaps you'd prefer temperatures like we have in central Illinois. It's currently snowing and is around 20℉. Last month, we were close to 0℉. Both amounts don't include the wind chill.
Assume that you will be putting solar panels on top of Bimini and perhaps on dinghy davits. I suggest you look at bifacial mono solar panels in the 400w (top side rating) range. Sea has albido of 30-80% depending on sun angle and white fiberglas in cockpit has albido of fresh snow. You could get 10-15% (40-60w) more power from reflected sunlight hitting bottom side of each panel on dinghy davits. You could get same increase from bimini mounted panels but only if the bottom side of solar panel is also the bottom side of the bimini (eg panel is inset in hole in bimini), This might require SS tube reinforcing frame for bimini.
Will fiberglass stick to petroleum jelly coated plasticine clay? That's what I often use for building the base layer of a 2 part silicone mold. Also nice attempt at including a wombat, pretty sure that was a doggy though.
Ever tried using an old caulk tube in a caulking gun fill it with the plasticine and squeeze i've done that when making wooden casting bucks for sand casting aluminium and suchlike
oh i soo hope you tell how to get plasticine and model clay of the mold and new parts... becurs i got lots of it on my parts.... happy 2 see you got som distraktions from the boat..
Has Janet named her boat yet Ross? We all know who's in charge here. Without knowing you guys, I can tell you that she has to be a hell of a sport to do all of that tedious work. My wife helped me build a 12 ft tender some years ago and tedium wasn't in her vocabulary.
I don't normally like to hear all the swearing on you tube BUT most don't know how to swear properly. I'm a southern hillbilly in the United States....Ya notice I said southern...so maybe not all that United. You definitely got the swearing down to an art. You should teach classes. Keep on keeping on.
i have askd Rossco several times what the name of his co-worker (not apprentice) is. So now, i am asking you directly........is it Janice of Janet? i think he let it slip out in this episode! Now (nunc).... hindsight being as it is, i should had suggested that you contact my cousins in the Aboriginee community and ask them to bring over a few ' wee-folk' to assist in those tight areas. 🪜🔀

Rocking Horse Sh-T. I'm using that one. Almost fell out of my seat laughing..🤣🤣
It's a fairly common saying here in Oz.

Persistence in action, simplicity leads to the spectacular
Cheers buddy.
For the broken screws, if you have a small holesaw like 1/4 or 3/8 you could drill.out the screws and fill them with epoxy
Sometimes you need that break away from reality so as to recharge the batteries. Well done as usual Rossco.
Knowing when to take a break is so important. Good to see you know when that time is. I know it is too late now, but a stuck screw can be released by heating the head with a soldering iron for a short time before unscrewing. It will even remove rusted in ones.
Great solution mate.I will give that a crack..Ross
Wish I had a place that beautiful to escape to. I noticed that work is going much faster since the boss showed up. LOL
You are doing great Roscoe - you deserved the reset.😀👍
It’s so good to get on the water. Very exciting times ahead. All the best for Saturday. Wish I could be there to help.
Take care buddy hope you are all OK.Miss you mate.
What a great place to chill out and I miss living in your area. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful pup! I had to rewind and watch that scene a few times. Man’s best friend.
Yep Lexi is a great hound. She was handed in at 8 months old to a rescue centre where we found her.Now 11 years old and my best friend.Cheers Ken.
To late now but we use a large metal ball on a shaft tool to radius our clay filets . ..looks good mate

Another interesting video. You guys certainly live in a beautiful area.
Good to see you have a break and clear the head.
Thanks Alan.We are so fortunate to live here,it is a magic place with a huge diversity Rossco
The extra tab/flanges are BRILLIANT! You've come so far and everything is coming together nicely.
Thanks for sharing with everyone.
Cheers!!
Ya got a ton of grit Ross… I agree, getting on the water is the best tonic. 🇨🇦

Oh yeah a 6mm hole saw helps make space for the jaws of the chuck to get below the suface, easy enough to fill the holes.
Greetings from Victoria BC. Love the channel and look forward to each and every episode

Wow, that is a beautiful place where you were kayaking at.

I defy anyone who says they have worked as hard you have and the proof is in the outcome of this beautiful boat!
I love it Saul, but I have to be honest, I feel it more than I used to. 55 mate, muscles aren't what they used to be.Cheers.Rossco
I've said it before, I just wished I had 1/2 of the energy you and your wife has to bring your dreams into reality! Cheers!
Great work and the little bits will be worth it in the end

Good for you both Janet ! Ross clearly needed a respite, but then, you would know better than anyone !
Hell ya go team Hulls.
You need a ticking stick. It would help you a lot.
My favorite kind of episode!
Good episode Ross
Sometimes you just have to walk (paddle) away. A couple of beers helps too!
Thamks Stephen.Beer is always good mate.Rossco
haha building doodle. I always wondered why not call them a poodledor to amuse myself. Glad you took a break.
That is a brilliant name for these dogs Our Lexi is a golden retriever cross poodle.Groodle or Golden Doo dle.

We love our Seartex 600db.
Try changing hands when you ask for a shake from the fur baby. Or at least I found it successful with mine. Hulls are looking fantastic!
Thanks Chaz , Lexi has never not done done both paws.Never try to use an animal on the tele.

Looking good. I wonder what they would have done in the factory as they would not use composite angles
I get my broken screws out with a drill chuck, hand held to grab em & twist em out
I am going to give that a go,
,thanks Phil.
Nothing like waking up at 3:00AM thinking "Now what else should I have done that I can't once the hull and deck are joined?"
Welcome to my life Patty.Cheers Rossco
It looks like there are times when you look like you are going to say "I'm getting too old for this shit!"
Every single day mate, actually once an hour.

That is our intention buy launching from the sugar scoops will take some thinking.Cheers Ross.
Awesome!
Excellent progress Ross!
Russ try pvc tube to mold the plasticine push the tube into it making a perfect smooth corner
I use a ball bearing of the right diameter weld onto a piece of rod, heating the ball gives a very smooth finish

OK we have a new drinking game, every time Ross says plasticine you take a shot !
Yep, gelcoat sucks the pigment out of the kids moulding clay, and can't be sanded out. Goes full thickness of gelcoat.
That is not good.
I must have missed it did you ever make the roof panels for both heads?
I have half of the made Chad.Janet will be learning to laminate the smaller parts very soon.Cheers mate.Ross.
