I went to Chatham today and talked someone who knows someone who is friends with Steve. He’s going to attempt to come back to the video store this year. He’s still recovering from a procedure he had in the hospital and getting back his strength. So hopefully this year will see Steve at the video store, and when he answers the phone he’ll say “Video Visions, Steve, speaking, how may I help you” There’s a treasure trove of movies there, over 25,000 movies. So many movies that never made it onto digital video disc. Let alone streaming. That can be rented that are on the VHS format but he has plenty of DVDs of course So nice to be able to walk into Video Visions and see Steve chat with him about different movies. What he thinks of new releases. Bring up an old movie on video home system tape and he’ll tell you all about it.
Steve Campbell owner of Video Visions in Chatham NY has sadly passed away. R.I.P Steve, you will be missed. It was always an education to speak with you. You served our community for decades, and you inspired so many to expand their knowledge and appreciation of films.
Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Steve Campbell. He was a great guy and Video Visions was a big part of the community. We had a good time working with him on our documentary and he became a great friend since then!
LIved in Ghent in 1985 and Moved to Nassau in 1986 and loved to shop and visit Chatham. The bookstore, and Delson's was such a delightful throwback. The diner that served potato chips with sandwiches. So glad you are there and keeping a tradition going.
I just spoke to Steve. He had a procedure in the hospital and had to recover from it.He definitely will be reopening the store In the near future. No date yet
It’s now 20 May 2023 and no answer on the telephone when I’ve called several times. Looks like the store is still temporary closed. No word on how STEVE is doing. It can’t be a very good sign though that store is still closed now for close to one year 😂
I spoke to STEVE December 2022. He said he had a procedure in the hospital and wasn’t feeling well enough to open up the store again and work five days a week Tuesday through Saturday but he said he would reopen as soon as he was feeling better. I just spoke to someone at the Chatham Grill today December 21, 2023. She’s friendly with STEVE and had sent him a few get well cards. She hasn’t heard back from him but knows he was having health problems. She said the store looks the same from the outside when you look in. So I suppose that’s good news in a way. Because if they had sold the store, it probably would be looking different inside. Maybe it would’ve been cleared out. So it’s good that everything inside looks the same according to the employee at Chatham Grill, who was friendly with Steve in the past. I probably will drive up there soon just to go to eat in the town shop around go to the old Theatre. Then I’ll definitely of course look in the windows of the Video Visions, and see if everything looks the same.
March 9, 2024. I’m going up to Chatham today to see a movie and go out to eat at the Chatham Grill. I’ll check to see what’s going on at Video Visions as far as I know it’s still closed. I know Steve owns the building so hopefully everything is still there just as he left it in June 2022 or so. Last I talked to someone who lived in the area several months ago maybe six months ago they said that everything was still as it was when he was still there inside the store
I was in town and stopped by to see what the store was like. I’m sitting out front typing this actually. The store is still closed but appears to be completely intact. The movies at the front of the store are getting badly sun bleached to the point of only the blue ink being left. Someone should give him a hand and come by to put up some curtains or blinds to block the sun. Hope Steve is doing ok and we’ll see him back behind the counter once again!
I remember Video Visions in Crete Illinois. My Aunt Nettie worked there for years. Then owner Bob relocated to Dyer Indiana ...best memories of my life going to work wirh her as a 6 year old to 13.
Does anyone know why Video Visions is closed right now? Sign on the door says 'until further notice' or something like that. I hope all is well with Steve and family. I would hate to see this place permanently close or sold to a different business owner; it is as important to the character of Chatham as the clock tower and freight trains. It's a one of a kind place
I talked to someone at the Chatham Grill. She said that he’s not feeling well. It’s not the coronavirus but something else. Nonspecified. She sent him a card but hasn’t heard from him. I hope Steve is OK and will come back to the store soon. I was very distressed when I didn’t hear him answer the phone today July 19 when I called. I always had a friendly conversation with him over the phone when I couldn’t come into the store
He takes care of his father so I don’t know if something happened with his dad and he had to close temporarily because of his dad or himself. I hope we hear from him again soon

@@citvprod You did a great service making this little documentary. Thank you for it!
People who still keep video stores are archivists, curators and conservators of our dearest movie memories.

Not sure if that Video Visions store is connected to this one in Chatham, NY, but thanks for sharing your video store memories!
The video store in my hometown was called Video Vision. This was in the southeast though.
Thank you for making this documentary and preserving such a great store in Chatham! Hope it is always able to live on.
Blockbuster opened in 1985 along with Movie Gallery.

Were you ever able to figure out what happened? Wanted to go in recently and saw it was closed too.
Came here wondering the same thing
@@killjoychris8021 Apparently Steve has been dealing with an illness (not covid) and there is no timetable if and when it will reopen
