Dee, I still love you, but Chod is right: this song is total fire. Chod, try sharing "Godzilla" or "Burning for You." This song is such a great vibe with an unforgettable, relentless riff. I also like to point out that it's not about suicide, it's just about facing death. The lead guitarist, the awesome Buck Dharma, was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat and was considering his own mortality when he conceived the idea of this song. The entrance of the guitar solo on this is one of my absolute favorites.
Ok but it absolutely is about a suicide pact between two lovers tho
@@Trouble10 not according to songfacts or Buck Dharma.
@@bostonvair I'm not sure if he was lying so it wouldn't get caught up in controversy, or if he did a terrible job of writing the lyrics in such a way that it's hard not to interpret it that way. But everything about it screams suicide pact.
For your wife, I’d recommend “In Thee”, “Perfect Water” or as some as suggested “Burning for You” their ‘81 hit! BÖC is a style of rock that defies classification and remains one of the most unique catalogs in American music. Be sure to check out their amazing brand new album released in 2020 The Symbol Remains with some amazing tracks like “The Alchemist” that might deserve a reaction as they remain one of the tightest playing bands still touring from those magical days! Catch the BÖC on tour in ‘22-‘23 in a city near you!
"Burnin' For You" is their next highest charting hit in the U.S. There are more songs to introduce Dee to that others are recommending in the comments.
“I’ve got a fever & the only cure is more cow bell !”
THANK YOU!
One of my all time favorite songs in the history of rock music. So perfectly constructed, I never get sick of it.
Loving the cowbell! Great times back in the day! ❤️
I had the pleasure of seeing them live twice.
My favorite BOC song and always will be.
The beginning of Stephen King's "The Stand" (1994 and best version) features this at the beginning.
Some folks back when this was on the radio every day thought it was encouraging suicide but deep down it's a love song. Two make one FOREVER.😍😍😇😇
Another band with this kind of vibe and depth you need to check out if you haven't already is Kansas.
agreed, the '94 version is best
I've seen them over 150 times.
Me too. Great live band!
Get 'er Wilburn. We got your back.
SNL skit ,"More Cowbell " ! Lol
She will definitely like " I love the night "
Its cool you listen to see what you like, or don't. Appreciate the honesty, much better than pretending.
Lucky man, Chad, lucky man.
This song has such a deep message
Chod, everybody recommends the better known songs, but I suggest you give a listen to “I Love the Night” and “Nosferatu” if you want to change her mind about BOC. She did say, “Play me something else!” She is trying, brother!
🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
I’m 54, and I remember laying on the floor, next to the speakers, catching contact-highs as a kid, when B.O.C. released this….When he sings, “The Curtains flew, and then He Appeared”, I still think about The Wizard of Oz! Stupid! 🤣
You do know this song is about suicide, right?
I saw that smirk when cowbell kicked in. 🤣
In the cover art for this, in the Magicians hand, he is holding Tarot cards. The order is as follows:
Death: Signifying an End of things, and new beginnings after.
The Empress: Signifying creation of life, romance, art, or new business.
The Emperor: Suggestive of stability and security in life and that you are in charge of your life now setting up your own rules and boundaries.
The Sun: Portends good fortune, happiness, joy and harmony. It represents the universe coming together and agreeing with your path and aiding forward movement into something greater/Ascension.
Chod. Your playlist selections are the best of anyone I’m following. Keep up the good work.
Got to see BÖC live in concert last month! It was an amazing experience! This and Godzilla are my favorite songs from them, so it was great to see them play those 2 :)
"Oh no she didn't ..." Lol😂😉😎💯
I first saw boc in concert in 1980 black and blue with Black Sabbath!
Dee, oh Dee, this is one of my favorite songs by Blue Oyster Cult and one of my favorites from anybody. I'm truly surprised you're not feeling it but different strokes for different folks.
For some reason this song has reminded me of Stephen king's the Stand. Really good reading and That apoplectic feeling. 🌇✌
They played it over the opening credits. It was perfect!!
This particular video actually just inserts the original, studio version of this masterpiece, to some concert footage. No big deal. Just thought I'd point that out. I highly recommend the studio version of "I Love The Night" from their "Spectres" album.
Chod doing a good impression of a lot of comment sections.
BLUE OYSTER CULT, "DON'T FEAR THE REAPER ", My first concert in 1973. It's OK for those who don't appreciate this band. They're loss, more, "CITIES ON FLAME WITH ROCK AND ROLL" "DOMINANCE AND SUBMISSION", "HOT RAILS TO HELL", "SEVEN SCREAMING DIZBUSTERS", "THEN CAME THE LAST DAYS OF MAY", "RED AND BLACK", VETERAN OF PSYCHIC WARS", "ASTRONOMY", "STAIRWAY TO THE STARS".
Don't let her blow your high bro. This song is Ethereal! I mean I feel it in my soul. But if someone else doesn't, even someone close to you, you can't evoke that feeling. ✌
I know what would help her love this song - the SNL skit with Christopher Walken!
I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell.
whenever I hear this song, my mind goes to the opening of Stephen King's movie "The Stand"
(Don't Fear) The Reaper: "It's not bad" That would be straight to divorce court for me..."irreconcilable differences Your Honor"!
Immediately. 🤣👍🏿
you cant please all the people , all the time.......... but this is one of my all time favorites !
She's correct in her reaction and not fair you can't answer a question after you just sneezed 🤧🙃❤
Dee stand up an be counted
BOC is a great live band. They go from one great song to the next with power and style that really gets the place rocking. You almost come out of it in shock from the non-stop wall of power. Love the videos!
That is an absolute fact! First time I ever read someone who experienced their shows in the same way/at the same time as I did!
I was at one of the first shows where they were trying out the giant laser, which you see in many of the shots in this vid.
The show was so intense, so heavy, and just UNRELENTING, in the best way possible!
After the next to last song, which was "Dominance & Submission", was so insane, between the heavy music and the laser........the crowd just stood in stunned silence for about 10 to 15 seconds, almost long enough for the entire band to leave the stage, before they finally began to cheer for the encore - which was, of course, this song. That concert was a peak experience and forever memorable for me - and BOC were the OPENING act, and a nearly impossible act to follow.
I was convinced she had to be kidding around. I'm flabbergasted. Sure, we all have different tastes, but to me, this is just a classic of classics. I feel like there are a chunk of songs that just everyone likes, and can't possibly consider "just ok". Shocked! LOL. Love her anyway.. But... LOL
We need more cowbell!!! YAYAH! It might grow on her! There have been lots of songs that I didn't like at first, but the more I heard them, the more I liked them. This one I've loved from the first, though! 😉
I guess she’s not into suicide pact songs
Show her the snl cowbell skit
@@raymondmanderville505 it’s about accepting death and not being afraid of the inevitable. There is nothing to do with suicide. Someone in the comments explains it way better than me
Your girl is speechless ☺️
One of the best concerts I ever attended in the 70s. They were fantastic. Thank you.
Saw BOC a few yrs ago and they still Jam🎸 Listen to Cities on Flames
One of the greatest and most unique songs in history!!!
I've been sneezin all day, too.
This song is just so smooth.
That's some sexy wife she's got shiners
This dude here he's my he's my hero I don't even remember his name does sit looking at his wife yeah he's my hero I'd like to find me a woman just like her hey she's
She prayed, doesn’t like the way the guys look if this wasn’t live, she would probably love it.😅
Listen to that feedback at the end of the solo....
A fun fact, Blue Oyster Cult was the first band to use lasers in their stage show. They had to go thru so much BS because the authorities thought that they would turn the lasers on the audience and kill them. They evidently proved sufficiently that the lasers for a light show were not powerful enough to start zapping people. Now it is common at venues to have laser shows but they were pioneers. Their name didn't help the cause though.
I would like to know if she would like their song, "Then Came the Last Days of May".. it's a very unique sounding song of Blue Oyster Cult.
Their best song, in my opinion. Famed fantasy writer wrote some songs for them loosely based on one of his characters.
Dee is GORGEOUS in olive!!
PLAY GODZILLA FOR HER ! MAYBE THAT'LL GET HER !
"Victim of 1000 Psychic Wars"!!!!!
Keep that couch warm, sounds like someone's gonna be using it for sure, lol! Dee, you do you...I suggest the live version of Then Came The Last Days of May from the double live album On Your Feet Or On Your Knees, love your reactions! ✌️ 🎵🎶🎼🎸
Great band, I remember the deep dive you did a while back and it was good. It’s cool Dee, keep it real. You don’t have to like every song. If you did, that would be phony. ✌️❤️
Shooting Shark Chodd that is the song to play for her
Bro you have such good taste in music!
Please don't say you ain't heard this before. It is one of the most played radio tunes as well as on several movies.
Hey girl if you don’t like it you don’t like it! You have the right
The title just means dont fear death the song is about a suicide pact between two teenagers. Like ( Romero and juliet). Young couple forbidden love ect
It’s true that some of BOC stuff may take a few listening to get used to and maybe liking it. If it’s something harder than maybe Veterans of the Psychic Wars or maybe more commercial Burning for You or Godzilla.
Oh man. Dude. This band was from my area on Long Island back in 1970 a great bar band. you need to play there big song Wilburn. Godzilla. and yes there still doing clubs as an older band.
CLASSSICCCCCC!!! :)
Let her listen to burning for you by the cult she will love that one
Dee might like:
Dancing in the Ruins, it's a later track, a bit more "pop" - is. I think Dee would like it.
Or Perfect Water.
Give Dee some of their other tunes and they will be her favorite band ♥️
BOC is well worth exploring further, if you have not reacted to them already, try either Godzilla, Nosferatu or Cities on Flame, all killer tracks. They have tons of great songs, Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎹🎶
She might like "Burnin' for You" better. It's okay. We love honest reviews.
Another episode of 'Scenes from a Marriage' in reaction guise.
Tell your truth, better honest than phony, even if most of us think and/or feel otherwise about this or any other song. Respect.
Soooooo fun. lmao
Buck Dharma described this as "a love song where the love transcends the actual physical existence of the partners." He was taken aback when he learned that many listeners heard it as a song encouraging suicide; it advocates courage in the face of death but in no way suggests we should actively bring it about. BTW, I like the Ozzy/Sharon schtick!
Love her opinion, i'm a huge BOC fan and I find her opinion spot on. Don't come back with something like Burnin For You, A Thousand Psychic Wars or Godzilla (ack), nothing like that, try early stuff, ME 262, something quirky, She's As Beautiful as a Foot, maybe Wings Wetted Down, Astronomy, one of my favourites Revenge of Vera Gemini or Fireworks..yes, Fireworks, do that song
2 each there own . it's all good
R U Ready 2 ROCK !
Burning for you. My favorite of BOC
I always associate that song with BOC and it is my favourite for sure. Not everyone can love everyone else' s favourite. That is what makes us different and unique.
After you two make up (that is, after he says he's sorry), you might try BÖC's 'I Love The Night' -same singer, but slower and with vampires.
I have a fever...and the only cure is more cowbell!
I think this is probably more of a man's song than a woman's but I loved this song when it came out, to me it's more of a spiritual love song about a couple together in the afterlife and the musicianship is unmatched.
BURNIN FOR YOU :) MAYBEEEEE I HOPE LMAO :)
Think we've just found someone with a faulty "Epic" Neuron 🤣🤣🤣
It should be firing off the scale....."awesome" But we just get "it's not bad"🤣🤣🤣
If you've never watched That 70's Show, you should watch it. I'm only mention it because I remember them mentioning this band on there. It's a freaking funny show
👍👍👍👍
Death but not death…Loved the ones that went before me naturally or suicidal. Death where is your sting they didn’t fear you reaper nor will I as it may put me the utter ends of this space
Try I Love The Night. It's slow and doesn't have cowbell LOL
Consider "Burnin for you" or "come take me away" or "godzilla"
😁👍
Listen to. I'm burning for you
Ya of course I love the guitar work and the bridge is awesome, but overall I am with Dee on this it's kinda boring and repetitive. I mean, it's based around a guitar riff where the open G string rings the entire time. It's hypnotic, and forces you to keep listening.
Try "I Love the Night". It's slow, and a bit haunting.
I think I see what she’s saying. It could have used more cowbell.
Okay I’m going to suggest I love the night, goin through the motions, fireworks, Take me away Astronomy from Secret Treaties!
I always thought this song needed more cowbell.
Need to this with lyrics
BOC is GREAT guitar rock. Gotta listen to Cities on Flame,,,,,🔥🔥🔥👍😎
Chod, lighten up brother. If the girl don't like it, the girl don't like it.
Let's face it Blue Oyster Cult is a guys band, I dragged my wife to see them when we were dating and twice more after we were married, now if I want to see them I have to find a friend or go alone
I NEED MORE COWBELL!!!!
Dude, you married a heathen... but she is a really cute heathen, so it all works out in the end. Great reaction from you both. 🤣
some of the best guitar ever. . he was beyond compare. oh damn, girl! you cant know how deep this song runs in some of us. this is, for some, the most ROMANTIC SONG EVER WRIT. romeo and juliet together. we all want that . there they are. maybe she will dig ETI , or any song from Spectres. id go with celestial the queen death valley nights , or i love the night. . this may be more of a guy thing, we get so extreme in tying love sex and death together. peace.
More cow bell SNL
!!!
I say it will grow her, play your lady some more BOC,she'll eventually get it.
More cowbell!
Sorry guys, this is BOC's best song by a pretty wide margin, so Dee's opinion is unlikely to change.
Needs more cowbell
