The term Buddhism originates from the word “buddhi”, meaning "to awaken or to be enlightened," and thus, Buddhism is a religion that leads to enlightenment. This doctrine stems from the experiences of one individual, Siddhatta Gautama (Siddhartha Gautama), who achieved enlightenment at the age of 35 and is revered as the Buddha. To this day, Buddhism has existed for over 2,500 years and has approximately 380 million followers worldwide. Up until about a hundred years ago, Buddhism was primarily an Eastern philosophy, but gradually, more people from Europe, Australia, and America have taken interest in it.
So, is Buddhism just a philosophy?
The word “philosophy” consists of two parts: “philo” meaning love or fondness, and “sophia” meaning wisdom. Thus, philosophy is the love of wisdom, or love and wisdom. Both meanings perfectly describe Buddhism. Buddhism teaches us to fully develop our intellectual capabilities for clear comprehension. It also teaches us to cultivate compassion to become true friends to all living beings. Therefore, Buddhism is a philosophy, but not just any philosophy. It is the supreme philosophy.
Who is Buddha?
In the year 623 BCE, a boy was born into a royal family in the northern region of India. The prince grew up in luxury, but soon realized that material comfort and safety do not guarantee happiness. He was deeply moved by the suffering of those around him and resolved to find the secret to human happiness. At the age of 29, he left his wife and child to seek enlightenment, sitting at the feet of the famous teachers of his time to learn. They taught him much, but none could truly comprehend the root of human suffering or how to escape it. Finally, after six years of ascetic practice and meditation, he had accumulated enough experience to break through ignorance and achieve enlightenment. From then on, he was revered as the Buddha, the Enlightened One. For 45 years, he traveled across northern India, teaching others what he had realized. The Buddha's compassion and patience were truly remarkable, attracting thousands to become disciples of Buddhism. Even at the age of eighty, despite old age and illness, he lived in happiness and peace until his death...
More than three hundred million people believe in Buddhism but less than one percent of them are understanding and following the right teachings of Buddha

And what may I ask are the right teachings? Based on the books and scriptures that are passed down? Ancient teachings (no matter how old these are) cannot be an “authority” to believe that everything is true. Words are not the thing but if you believe words, then that is the thing…!🙏🙏🙏

Catechism of The Buddhist Doctrine
Primarily in Buddhism it is compulsory to accept Rebirth & KARMA (Wholesome or Unwholesome Commitments) though only voluntarily one should accept The Doctrine, purely through conviction.
after accepting Buddhism purely through conviction. It’s mandatory to make 5 sacrifices or observe Five Precepts as a Layman,
1. To Abstain from Killing, Harming or Endangering any kind of living beings.
2. To Abstain from Stealing or taking what is not granted to you. Pilferage, Cheat ,Plunder, Pillage, Loot, etc;
3. To Abstain from Committing Adultery or illegal sexual misbehavior.
4. To Abstain from Falsehood, Pretend, Mendacity, Lying or Deceit. It’s v.important for Buddhists to refrain from falsehood as they seek the Truth.
5. To Abstain from Intoxication or Narcotic Drug Abuse.
Standards are of course higher and much more austere for a Novice Monk (like the Poverty vow, Strict Celibate living etc;)
Unlike in all other major religions including Hinduism, Buddhism doesn’t accept a creator God but instead Evolution, according to the Commitment or KARMIC Force which enables the ideal situation.
Eg; Wholesome Commitments will deliver pleasant or desirable births in a Celestial or Human birth or vis-à-vis in the case of Unwholesome Commitments. For whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. (New Testament - Saint Paul)
A rather short and precise emphasis would be, mentally and physical commitment or action(volition,consciously acting by purpose). Therefore what happens accidentally(unintentionally) doesn't create a payback situation.Although KARMIC reaction may not take place quite instantly but for surely in due time-course it will start paying retribution to the owner of it(Eg; if one plants an apple seed you wouldn't get apples over night, but certainly for sure it will give results at its fruition). It's mind foremost. Though Envy, Jealousy, Aversion, Covetousness and Ignorance are all evil and doesn't involve any physical action but it will definitely have a KARMIC reaction in a miserable realm as they are mindful commitments(intention) . Lord BUDDHA has mentioned the type of KARMA and its reactions are infinite. This subject of KARMA is a vast subject in Buddhism with lots of elaborations like the Cause & Effect Theory,
· Dependent on the main cause ignorance , volitional (KARMIC) formations evolves.
· Dependent on volitional formations, consciousness evolves.
· Dependent on consciousness, mentality-materially(Mind & Matter) evolves.
· Dependent on mentality-materially, the six sense faculties(Eye,Nose,Tongue,Ear,Body & Brain ) evolves .
· Dependent on the the six sense faculties, contact evolves.
· Dependent on contact, sensual feeling evolves.
· Dependent on Sensual feeling, craving evolves.
· Dependent on craving, clinging evolves.
· Dependent on clinging, existence( Rebirth in*31 Realms ) evolves.
· Dependent on existence, birth evolves.
· Dependent on existence,decay,senility death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief and despair evolves
* According to Buddhist Cosmology,Lord BUDDHA has mentioned that the number of Galaxies run in to infinity in 625 B.C, a Galaxy comprises of 31 realms of existence and they are, the 4 miserable Hell Realms (1.Animal 2.Goblin or the Hungry Ghostly Forms 3. Extra Gigantic Miserable Ghostly Forms 4. The 136 Hell realms full of torture found beneath the earth.)
1 Human realm, 6 Celestial Heavenly realms, 20 Celestial Brahma realms(Super-mundane). Also Rebirth is quite different to Reincarnation which means the same person appearing again. According to Buddhism it’s NOT THE SAME or NOT ANOTHER Eg; Suppose Julius Caesar reborn currently as Prince Charles, he’s not Julius Caesar now ,but no one else either but a generation of the Cycle of Birth & Death of a being.
We're driven by Greed, Hatred and Delusion the 3 evil KARMIC roots embedded in our minds which doesn't need any nourishment, the downward currents fueling our *cycle of birth and death (*SAMSARIC SOJOURN) which causes immense suffering to us. So the perfect solution or the antidote prescribed by The BUDDHA, is to engage our selves in acts of 1.Generosity, to nullify Greed. 2.To Contemplate on Loving Kindnesses and especially to Forgive one's Adversaries and Treacherous Enemies, this technique is to curtail the evil root of Anger, Animosity or Hatred and Jealousy which is embedded in our minds. 3.Finally to develop Wisdom through sheer Contemplative Meditation to make Ignorance obsolete. Ignorance which is the main reason for the existence of both other evil aspects Greed and Hatred. Both Greed and Hatred can't exist without Ignorance.

reality of the 1.The NATURAL PHENOMENON OF IMPERMANENCE(both Mind & Matter, arise to pass away or Appear to Disappear) 2.The NATURAL PHENOMENON OF SUFFERING(due to 1st phenomenon of Impermanence)
3. The NATURAL PHENOMENON OF SOULLESSNESS (non continuity or non eternity.This is the most subtle phenomenon) and this technique of meditation is known as The INSIGHT MEDITATION which enables you to exterminate the KARMIC FORCE and would nullify your future existence in any of the *31 realms of existence in this Galaxy or in any other Galaxy (Lord BUDDHA has mentioned that the number of Galaxies run in to infinity in 625 B.C) a Galaxy comprises of * 31 realms of existence and they are, the 4 miserable Hell Realms (1.Animal 2.Goblin or the Hungry Ghostly Forms 3. Very true. Please allow me to interrupt. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.
I gather that one of the main reasons why Buddhism vanished in India long ago is that the Buddha advocates equality of all sentient beings, which is menacing to the vested interests of the privileged class in Hindu India.
@@stevenleung8779 Rubbish. India, especially Bihar is still Buddhist. It's just that the Buddhism you know has a strong foreign flavor. This is the reason why Buddhists failed to identify indian Buddhism. I do research on this subject. I have visited 250 or more villages. All these villages are staunch right wing Hindus. But none of them have Ram or Krishna Temple's. All of them had their local village deity which was a character Buddhists love and respect.
Lord Buddha's robes, bowl, many reliks are enshrined in sri lanka. May all beings attain supreme bliss of nibbana.

Modern era like america and their so called separation of church and state still has this mentality with cancel culture and public shaming. Bunch of backwatered barbarians. I wouldn’t listen to anyone who hasn’t done the practice. I’ve been practicing Buddhism for 6 years now and like the Buddha says don’t believe anything told to you unless you know it for yourself. And you won’t understand anything about Buddhism unless you are actually doing the practice.
That's why we have made our world very highly artificial. And have told ourselves intelligence is of our own making. Not because we are arrogant but because we tire from thousands of years of repetitive stories from all religions.
Very nice, this format (F.A.Q.) proves most useful in any area of interest, simply the entry user finds quickly what is what. I find Questions #6/7 quite important, this DISCARDING-OF-DIVINITY cuts off the nasty "what is in it for me" mentality, the parasitic attitude of focusing on getting more and more. Buddha drops the bomb when asked of existence of soul, the final obstacle in striving-to-be-holly community, soul being the final attachment "it is mine", hee-hee, quite a destructor of illusions Buddha was. My suggestion, in next series, include the soul question, also the reincarnation is a fuzzy one.
Allow me to share my current understanding of the paradox soul-reincarnation coexistence, it is the notion of all living things not having a soul/spirit but information "blackbox" which, as shamanic traditions say, goes to the Eagle (the master information field) enriching it with the living experiences/viewpoints. Later, one could access this bank similarly to the library as if reading the life of a certain person/animal, but in so vivid way that one could easily be fooled being previously that entity. Thus, reincarnation could be explained as not existent but as a mere delusion of one reading/reliving the past lives of completely different entity?!

Modern research on Near Death Experience by Raymond moody, reincarnation memories by Ian Stevenson/Jim trucker and past lives regression by Brian Weiss all independently but coincidentally show that our consciousness survive death, we live many lives and our thoughts and actions matter in the hereafter. These are in line with Buddhist teachings.

It's much easier for people of Buddhism to relate to science. For the simplest reason that both relate to nature at it's core. All others have beliefs intrinsic to their religions and therefore gods n creators. Science can't relate well with them.

After watching this video, I've come across so much misinformation. I'm not sure how much research you've done on Buddhism. When making comparisons, it's essential to provide references and evidence, including the timeframe, which is crucial. Nowadays, we have numerous historical resources and archaeological evidence of Buddhism's existence and the presence of Buddha in India. We understand why Buddhism spread out from India but was lost in the place of its origin, Nepal, where Buddha attained enlightenment. Looking at the current scenario and conditions of these two countries, it's evident that Buddhism has disappeared primarily due to Brahminism or Hinduism. Therefore, Hinduism isn't an independent religion but rather a distorted version of Buddhism.

Upanishads have distinguished between Brahman and Atman. Buddha's first sermon that now I understand Brahman is Abrahman and Atman is Aatman. Nihilism is the way that can be done by baffling the mind which is the root of duality. Where the mind stops that which rises up. One hand raising to show.
Zen story as koan to make the mind stop in perplexity for satori.

I gather that the Buddha was born in Lumbini, a place in ancient India (but now it is within the national boundary of Nepal). National boundaries have altered owing to wars... etc over the years.

Your life, your existence, is a reality. You live and then you die. What is the real benefit Buddhism offers to your life now and after your demise? I'm from Cambodia, a country that has embraced Buddhism as its national religion for many centuries. And I know that it is wrong. This wrong belief must be abandoned and must change for the real benefit of being saved after one's demise. Buddhism did not create Heaven or hell. But these places are not mere beliefs, they are real places. There is a real Almighty y God who created all, including the life of Buddha, that we see and learn about. Unlike the rain, no philosophies in the world will offer any actual help to one's life now and after one's demise. They are mere opinions of some smart humans.

Who are we and why do we believe - believe in what and why? These are basic but quite important questions whose answer(s) must be fully understood by all who believe in something and are not atheists or agnostics.
In this case, based on teachings from Buddhism, Buddha, a man from Nepal, offered philosophies to his listeners on how to live life in ways that would produce harmony and peace among all people. We see good intentions in these teachings. We see the obvious, however, the world, in reality, is filled with tragedies and outbreaks of violence both natural and man-made. And the trends continue. This proves that these philosophies, offered with good intentions by Buddha, are impractical and without real results to assist human lives in all creation. Why then should people continue to pay attention to these impractical teachings? And why not explore in good faith to find something else that is (truly) beneficial to our fate now and especially (after our demise) which is (the) most crucial point in our being existed? Buddha has (zero power) to help alleviate anyone of us from sin whose wage is death. Or does he? Buddha has zero authority in this creation - in his existence - to help anyone anywhere in any way. Like all, Buddha is also a sinner.
So, as mere powerless earthlings, what do we turn to for the real benefit of our being - to be alleviated from sin whose wage is death? We know without the slightest doubt that (the one thing) we must be fearful of the most is (making the ultimate mistake) - a mistake that would eventually bring us past a point of no return - meaning nothing can be done to help ourselves after that certain point. Believing in Christianity makes complete sense in avoiding making (that) ultimate mistake whose result can be hell. Can you agree?

@@chouleanghak5085before you chalenge someone, better you learn more deeply about buddhism. The nature of dogmatic faith is, you can only question something until a certain limit. After those limit, you will be pushed back to the position where you cant ask question, and just have to believe. The most common example is when people ask who created god. Or other common question is, can god create big mountain to the level where he himself cannot lift that mountain. Thats the nature characteristic of a belief system. Buddhism, on the other hand, is not a belief system. In buddhist teaching, you dont even have to believe in anything. You do good not because it will bring you to heaven. But because you can see directly the benefit of the goodness itself. The beautiful feeling when you can help people without asking what is their religion. This is limitless compassion. The ultimate kindness that humanity can reach
