  • How to Forge Fire: Crafting the Ultimate Survival Striker. We will take you on a journey of forging flint and steel. It all starts at the forge. Hobo Forge Survival’s Jason Smitth teaches me the art of hand forging a striker to be used for a flint and steel fire.
Join us as we embark on an exciting journey of forging a Striker for flint and steel! Starting at our simple brake drum Forge, we have the coal burning hot, with the squirrel fan blower controlling the temperature. Our steel is ready - a piece of scrap 1095 cut off that will be transformed into a fantastic Striker. Watch as Jason works his magic, heating up the steel until it reaches the perfect temperature. Once it's ready, we'll head over to the track Anvil and start hammering away. Stay tuned for an immersive experience in blacksmithing! #Forging #Blacksmithing

This is a great teaching project. Allows the rookie to gain experience with a coal forge, handle the tongs properly, and actually apply the hammer to the metal. Good instruction with a student who is willing to try and learn. With practice comes confidence and success with your metal works. This is an excellent setting for one-on-one instruction and learning. Priceless memories being forged here.

A terrific tutorial on techniques of basic smithing! The comparison to moving steel like clay by pushing forward with the hammer is great. Thank you.

I agree with the safety concerns here in the comments ! You should have worn your sandals, everyone knows that rubber boots will melt ! 🤔

recycling and repurposing available metal... now that's a homesteader's survival skill, Jason!...
Master this skill... steel has a soul, just like wood does...and you already know wood... next thing, learn how to make charcoal... then maybe turn it to black powder... the road never ends... have fun at it!
