- Hope this makes up for the ELO getting blocked in the US, that sucks.
Billy wrote "Nothing From Nothing" one night after he had just completed a tour supporting The Rolling Stones. He was working at a nightclub that had a piano in the dressing room and he started noodling around with the saying "nothing from nothing" and wrote the song.
After collaborating with Bruce Fisher to complete the song, Preston felt that the saloon piano was the best choice to go with. He said he knew it would be a hit because of it's sing-a-long quality.
It knocked Olivia Newton-John's "I Honestly Love You" off the top and then was deposed by "Then Came You" by Dionne Warwick and The Spinners.
Another jewel from Billy Preston, the fun and funkiness of the dance floor has never strayed far.

Baby boomers had the greatest soul music, the best era for soul was from 1956-1974. Generation X babies who were born in the late 60s and early 70s missed out on that era.
the music never went away, many of us genXers had music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, i know i did,i from the time i was very very young, i was drawn to music, i also had radios and tape players since i was literally 3 and 4 years old, so i had all kinds of music, all radio stations at my finger tips. i have a wide variety of music, very extensive collections or motown, rock n roll, jazz, blues, soul, rnb, doo wop, funk, classical , and more, id often buy tapes with my allowance or birthday money i got, now in the last 20 years its harder to get the younger sets listening because its not on the radio like it used to be, but if they had exposure to it, theyd dig it, because you can find teens and 20 somethings listening, but yeah, radio stations need to make a comeback.
@@user-gigantor youd be surprised that many of the younger folks do know this music, it can still be bought, it never went away, the radio stations went away, but the music did not.
Not a good look to denigrate others based on date of birth, esp over music. 😂
Gen X babies didn't miss out on this music because our parents were listening to it throughout our childhoods. At least mine were.
Hey I'm a Gen X'er and grew up inner city Chicago where I was introduced to black soul by a Latina and a friend's dad who went to Nam and served with alot of "brothers " Glory Be to Yah that his people know music that moves all people and generations

I wish he'd do some of those. Herb and his band laid down some great tracks. My mother turned me on to that group. Imagine what he'd do with "Spanish Flea", "Tijuana Taxi", or "Whipped Cream".

hey DJDiscoCat, don't give up on getting a ELO record on here. You will find one that will go through just fine for the US of A. There's plenty of videos on you-tube that feature ELO songs on vinyl, I've been watching/listening to several without the video coming up totally blank or coming up with ''unable to play in USA" notices. I'm one for turning over every stone till I succeed, I don't give up that easily. 😘

Oh I'm back in high school, and learning how to drive lol. I had a really cool driving instructor. He was the librarian of our high school as well. Most of the driving instructors didn't let us listen to music. But our favorite instructor did. And he would put on the latest music; he was a young guy himself. As we learned the basics of driving to pass our test, we would be jamming out to the tunes lol. Wonderful memory. 🚗🚙🛻🏍

I remember when students took classes in school to become decent drivers! Apparently nobody teaches young people to drive anymore.
My Dad was a drivers Ed Instructor in highschool. He would let you listen to the radio but only to relaxing music. Stuff like Perry Como Connie Francis ect.
