With $100 set top boxes like the Sony PlayStation TV offering serious gaming cred, is it actually worth it to buy one of these 'consoles' like the Amazon Fire TV, Asus / Google Nexus Player?
Being able to play PS Vita games along with PS1 Classics, PSP titles and PS3 and PS4 games via PlayStation Now and PS4 Link streaming is a huge plus for the PlayStation TV but with both the Fire TV and Nexus Player running a version of Android it's not as simple as how many games you've got.

ZONEofTECH Shot most of this on a Tokina 11-16 to get that super wide look and used plenty of Warp Stabilizer to smooth things out. Not thrilled with the final result but was a fun experiment!

You definitely have a different workflow that I do.
I usually never split my editing. For me it's scripting + filming indoors (one day) + outdoors the next day (or when it's sunny - almost never, here in the UK), and then full on editing until I finish the video (or until I start hallucinating).
Once I went full on 42h of straight editing haha! #LivingAYOLOLife

these are the same as a phone but without a screen on it, You get games from the play store on the nexus player in the same why you would an android phone
Stephano Vargas I think of them more as media consumption devices. Gaming systems should have significantly more power than any of these do, unless they're just for emulated experiences, like the Retron 5. If you want something that does it all, perhaps an HTPC would be the best option. It's more pricey, but also can be customized to suit your tastes. You can make it a gaming PC, a media center, a streamer, or an all around beast... If you can afford it. :)
SeanFromPVD I dont see a problem in calling them gaming consoles, I mean look at the 3ds its nothing special spec wise but I play on it every other day. You have got to remember there is a whole new market in the gaming industry of casual gamers and you cant take them for granted when candy crush is making millions.

You know... if I could go back in time, I'd tell Sony to use the same chips for the Vita into the original PSP so that PS Vita would be backwards compatible. i'd also tell them to not use proprietary memory chips or charging port. It'd have saved them a LOT of trouble.
Heck, making it have online texting and emergency calling for parents and it'd have been perfect.

Yeah, considering you can emulate it with a $35 laptop from ebay, a 5 dollar shipper usb converter and a 9.99 controller from gamestop (and that let's you play tens of thousands of games, being able to emulate everything from NES to dreamcast, to PS2....maybe hundred thousand games with PC games that are free)

I managed to find a PlayStation TV on clearance at a local retail outlet for only $30! I definitely don't regret that particular purchase.
I've been using my PSTV for a couple years and I've really enjoyed it. It was well worth the $25 I paid for it and I have zero regrets. Even paid for a high storage memory card. I have a solid library of PS1 games I like. From what I understand I can also use it as a remote play device for PS4 so we'll see how that works.
I got a xbox360 for 70$ (Second hand but really taken care of) and a kit to modify it for 30, Which is alot nicer :)

Good comparison for 3 competing products, but while they serve their tv related purpose, for the sony, would prefer the vita itself, and the other 2 are not different given that the amazon one has all amazon store items available on blackberry devices, and the google items can be played on any android device that you can get. They all have the ability to plug into the tv one way or another.
