We just bought 8 acres me my husband and 2 kids living in a 30 foot travel trailer! We are building our house with our own hands! Solar, rain water "off the grid" 😍😍😍
How are things going with your build? I'll have to show my daughter your channel. I had to build her a 'makeup room' in the house we built ourselves when she was little. Good luck!
Jason, yes homesteading is tough, but having homesteaef since I was 18 and just turned 68 in May I've learned a few thing over the years, but not on everything. One thing you need to learn is nature, "what would mother nature do". I had a calf that I bought at a sale barn it came home and in 2 days it stopped eating, had scours, and was loosing electrolytes. Called thd vet ask him what to do and he said if you get him past the next 4 days come and see me in 4 months and I'll give you something to build his antibodies. Needless to say in 4 months he didn't need antibodies, did castrate him at three months and butchered him at 18 months. You have a good head on your shoulders. Your exciting and energetic at my age I'm down sizing equipment and animals a little. My 2 jersey cows will be AI bred but won't go for the 90% heifers this time. My goats are gone but might pick up a doe for milk which is better for me, I have Asian Heritage Hogs, because who wants a hog that gives you 200 pounds of meat when you only have to store it for a year, or more, and then it might go bad. The chickens, your right are great they even hatch their own chicks which I think you left out. I keep muscovy ducks because their friendlier, provide more meat and eggs and make great pets for people who just want pets, geese and pekins are gone, sheep are gone, rabbits are good cause I use fur and meat and sell some as pets. Keep Aussie shepherds for herding, helping me do chores, patroling the property to keep deer from the garden, clearing the property of groundhogs, (109 groundhogs, one raccoon, and two possum from the hen house this spring), and puppies , due any day now. Is it hard you bet, and that's just the stock side, gardening is a whole different story but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Will be looking forward to futher vlogs. Have a great day from PA.

Oh my god I am so glad I found your channel! My husband and have been starting to look for land for our homestead while we currently live in the heart of our city. It is so nice to see people our age doing this as well, because we are obsessed. Thank you for sharing!
I had 0 experience, I just bought seeds and through them in the ground my first year. I grew from there. its been 5 years now and I have gained so much knowledge! I'll be coming to your state this weekend. Chickens, the only safe gateway drug! well maybe lol

@The Crockers To keep your ducks out of your small watered you can make a top out of 2x4 welded wire it’s big enough for them to sink out of but they aren’t able to get inside and swim around
Also another tip that I’ve learned by living on a farm and researching for the future if you like honey raise some bees they’ll give you honey and they will help pollinate your fruit trees and berries if you decide on starting them
Ugh. My husband and I want so badly to live this lifestyle. We are by no means vegetarian, but I’m just not sure we can toughen up and eat our own animals. I’d be raising cattle and buying meat from the grocery store 😂. I live in the city right now and can almost cry just thinking about killing my imaginary goat on my imaginary farm 😓😂 But y’all are still super inspiring. Don’t know yall but I’m proud of ya! Good luck with creating a family, what a lovely, love-filled home you will have! 🥰
This is my exact problem. I really just want a homestead for dairy products and eggs. Id love to raise animals but dont think Id have the heart to eat them lol. My husband doesnt mind the idea. Im a grown ass adult but I still cry when my hamsters die 😂
Wonderful! Me and my husband started young too.I was 16 and he was 18 and we had enormous fun. now we are living our dream life on a little farm in northern Sweden still together after 30 years and two children , still with an abundance of fun in our self-sustaining life. good on you and thank you for your content.
You need to check your chickens periodically for mites and lice. They have to be dusted. Check their vents, under their wings. Any areas that will be moist on their body. Chickens can be a lot of work, but they’re fun.
I absolutely love hearing advice and motivation from y'all! It sometimes is discouraging when you run into issues or hear "y'all are too young, it's not going to work out". I am so happy there are young couples out there like y'all that can be my motivation! My husband and I are 20 about to be 21 (got married at 18) and live in Texas currently and have a small homestead. Next year we are moving to Arkansas and starting a bigger homestead. I absolutely appreciate all the time you guys take to make these awesome videos! You are truly amazing people and thank you for the videos like these that keep me going strong despite everything else!!!
That’s awesome of y’all! Y’all are doing it right! We’re glad you liked this video and we hope we’re able to teach you more and stay in touch! Have y’all thought about a UA-cam channel?
@@TheCrockers We have thought about it, but not sure if I could get in front of the camera! I'm a shy person and anytime I've tried a video before I feel awkward! Lol 😂 Maybe when we move to Arkansas though it will give us something to do when we don't have a bunch of family up there! Thank you for responding and have a beautiful day! 🌻
@@tristancassidylloyd223 I have been thinking about moving back to Arkansas from Texas because my grandfather owns a piece of land there, but I believe it is only 3 acres and I am looking for 5 acres
@@tristancassidylloyd223 I am shy too. I started my channel because a lot of friends wanted to see and learn more. I couldn't speak for everyone else. I am homesteading right now. I still love to see others homestead to learn more. You might have more to offer than you know.
Hey thanks for this. My wife and I are both 24 and we've been really discouraged about starting our homestead someday (we don't even have a house yet) so it's good to see others around our age doing it.
I love hearing about your guys mistakes and how you're learning and growing! I'm 20 and about to graduate college and then I'm gonna save up and get some land for a homestead!! trying to learn how to garden on a small scale right now
Just found your videos. I'm in a tiny apartment with no gardening space and no pets, but I hope to one day.... maybe not homestead but be more self or community sufficient. I'd love just a little 1/2 acre home to do some gardening and have some ducks to eat my bugs for me. Well be looking at properties in about 2 years, so plenty of time to learn now! I already cook almost everything from scratch because of my condition and eating restrictions, I'm excited to learn how to grow and preserve my own fruit and veg
All of you do good. As for doing things the right way...the only right way is the way that works and, more importantly, works for you. Yall be safe on that trip and I hope yall have an AWESOME time!
Love the video and the encouragement you are putting out there, I think you are doing a great job. I so wish I had someone tell me these things when I was younger, but then again I may not have been ready to listen at that time in my life :( I have always "dabbled" in homesteading and since I was a child I have always had a garden, raised rabbits or chickens etc., as I got older, married, moved from UK to Canada and had kids (the human kind!) , we had goats, chickens, ducks, pigs and rabbits. as well as a large garden, each experience was a learning curve and yes, we did have a few failures but it was all worth it. Now I am old and on my own I still have a large garden, (I am prepping beans as I watch this video) Unfortunately I have health issues that make it too difficult to keep animals, however, I am trying to figure out how to "time share" a few chickens with a friend of mine haha. Anyway, keep up the good work, you are doing a great job and thank you for sharing it with us and not "sugar coating " things, what we see is the real thing. You guys take care and stay safe, Sandie from Ontario Canada.
May God continue to bless you kids. I come from a long line of farmers. I was blessed by by being born a farmers daughter. 🤗 It is so much fun to see the world putting so much stock into a profession that for hundreds of years has been considered undignified, dirty, and/or work for the uneducated. Yet when you look at the "farmer/homesteader" just to get through one day that person MUST use so many different skills. These skills can run from something as simple as just organizing a to-do list for the days chores, to something more difficult like animal husbandry, tearing the tractor apart and repairing it and the putting it back together CORRECTLY, doing a simple architecture project such as putting up a barn with I don't know say 8-10 stalls store rooms office etc. etc. Then there's the home repair, car repair, vet. care of our own critters. fence repairs HINT; Math, math, math! The amount a good farmer/homesteader/rancher has to know/learn is unbelievable!!!! Then you through a marriage in to that and children (the large majority) of folks who homestead home-school their children, so there is even more that farmers/homesteaders must know. I have ALWAYS know that my parents, grandparents, great grandparents, were VERY SMART people. Then the most important!!! Most folks that live this life have a strong belief in God, they don't just own a bible they READ THEIR BIBLE DAILY. I think you kids are doing just fine keep on learning!!! You will be better and healthier, May God bless you both your sister in Christ.
You guys are so inspiring. We are working on becoming debt free so we can start our own homestead. We are super excited to get started. We plan to buy enough land to avoid a move later on but want to start simple. I garden and we want to start with chickens and then move on to goats when we are ready. We are also looking into building a pole barn house.
Such a fun and helpful video. Really enjoyed watching you guys. My husband and my 10 month old son and I are looking to buy our first home in the next few months and I feel so inspired to go right for the homestead life I've always dreamt of. I'm 21 my husband is 24 so this video really spoke to me and I feel like we can do it even though we didn't grow up on farms. Also felt connected to you guys because I have a sleeve too and love your look haha! Thanks so much guys, would love to see more videos like this.
Omg I love yall so much. I've been thinking about homesteading. And this was very helpful. Yall are doing amazing. Keep up the good work. Love the energy yall have❤❤❤
Thanks for the motivation and advice for those wanting to break into becoming homesteaders. I'm still in the urban environment but thanks to this channel and a few others I took the leap this year and I'm getting a lot more involved with gardening, I've done it before but super lazily and almost entirely hands off after planting. I failed hard this year with starting plants from seeds (I didn't move them out fast enough or under watered them?) but I'm going to keep on trying. This year I'll have to do most from started plants from a store but so what? I'll still get some experience and knowledge this year as I care for them. Instead of doing nothing as I pine to be on land where I can have livestock I might as well start learning more of the things that I have available to me. I may get into canning this year too depending on how well the harvest goes.
We love this comment! You have the right attitude!! Good for you! We always say we love to learn as we go! We take everything as a learning experience! Keep pushing forward!
If you already in it. Don't give up. Learn from your mistakes. I fail on my first crop. I didn't have any money. My wife was pregnant. I sent her to her parents. I ate ramen noddles for 6 months. My budget was only $100. Now I am the best quality and weight farmer in this area. Buyers always lined up when I harvest. Learn from your mistakes. Fix it. Don't give up. You will get there.
Awesome, I'm glad I found you guys. My wife and I are also young and beginner homesteaders. We started off with just a garden and then got some chickens in an area where chickens were not allowed. About a year and a half ago we bought a house on 1.25 acres. We are working on developing this property, but already want more. I look forward to following your journey.
That’s awesome! Chickens are the gateway drug into homesteading lol So we understand! 😂 You’ll love greeting new animals and learning new things! Thank you so much!
Yes, I agree with you about young homesteaders. I know quite a few young homesteaders, many much younger than you guys, who are being successful. My opinion . . . dedication and willingness to work hard are the most important things you need right from the start. After that, the knowledge will start to build, but ONLY if you let it. Some people are stubborn and don't want to listen or take advice. They are the ones most likely to fail. Others, who are willing to ask questions, listen, and try different things different ways, are the ones most likely to succeed. And by the way, I truly think that some of the old ways are actually the best ways. If there ever comes a time when we can no longer depend on modern day conveniences (i.e. power, running water, grocery stores and Walmart, etc.), the old ways are less likely to fail us. What if you couldn't "run to the store" to pick up those items you do now? What if you couldn't buy something at the farm supply store? While all these things are wonderful and I think there's nothing wrong with taking advantage of their convenience when possible, I truly think it is wise to have learned those old ways well enough that we could easily transition into using them if we had to. More knowledge is never a wasted thing. Don't discount the old ways while you're busy learning the new/modern ways.
Guys believe me, had I had a clue of this type of lifestyle earlier, I would have been right out there with you. I am too old to start from scratch now. I do a little gardening. Your animals are like family. You guys be safe on your trip and hace fun.
Okay so I was gonna comment and be like “Jason totally sounds like Tom from Park and Rec” then you guys said your horses name was Lil Sebastian and I absolutely lost it. Happy I found the channel! Y’all are great and very inspiring! - fellow future homesteader!
I love that you had named your mini horse Lil Sebastian. Sorry you had to rehome him, but also glad you are passing along tips. I will probably never homestead, but I follow several homesteaders just to live the experience through all of you.
My husband and I are newly married. We are only in our mid-late twenties but we have talked about the homestead lifestyle over the last year. We love everything about the idea, but I've always felt we were too young and inexperienced to do it so I've been intimidated by it... until now! I love this video, it helped so much to hear that you guys felt the same and that it's ok to struggle at first. So inspiring, I feel like we can actually start talking about making this a reality! We can start small in our back yard with a garden and see what grows in the years to come! :D Can't wait to watch more of your videos!
I love that you shared the fact that you were enthusiastic in the beginning and made mistakes, this made you stronger and you learnt and have grown keep up with your videos 🇦🇺🐨🇦🇺🐨
I love what you’re doing. Keep it up. With your work ethic and determination I have no doubt that you will be successful. Do things the way you want to and whether it turns out to be the right or the wrong way you will learn from it and teach others at the same time.
I love you guys but my biggest tip to new homesteaders contradicts some of your advice. I advise living on new land for a year before planting fruit trees or building permanent infrastructure because you need to observe how water, sun, etc, affects it. During the year have several copies of an areal view to scribble notes and plans on. You will save money because those fruit trees will thrive because you've observed the best place to plant them. I know it's hard to think about waiting a year before starting big projects but while you wait get chickens and use a mobile coop or get rabbits. Both are easy, friendly animals and they will give you confidence and help you start composting (in the case of rabbits their poo can go directly on veggies right away). You can plant peppers and tomatoes that first year easily. No need to till ground or throw together a raised bed that might turn out to be in a bad spot. Plant them in 5 gallon buckets that can easily be moved around as you learn the land. I will be practicing this principle myself. Our family purchased new land in November of last year. Even though we currently homestead we won't be rushing to put up a barn or plant fruit trees. We will take our chickens and rabbits but keep them in safe but temporary structure until we know our new place better. It won't be easy but I know a year from now I'll be glad we waited. You guys are doing great! Keep learning and growing.
WWO, thank you for all the information. regarding horses, yes, you can have a horse, but make it a full size horse to ride on, and to help you with work chores around the homestead. That is the best kind of horse to have. A quarter horse is my fave. ;)
Since we only have 2 acres, we're going to wait until we can buy some of this land around us to get some horses. But Jared and I grew up riding horses and would love to do that again!
Grow plants that are common to your area, watermellons, cantaloupe, onions ,ect, water in the mornings early, and at leat two hours before sunset. Shade cloth is awsome in texas to keep plants from burning up in the sun
Really sweet and simple video....Everyone should be homesteading, it will solve half the world problems like....pandemics, artificial foods, mental and physical health, neighbours gossiping and causing trouble, more family time etc
Hello Crockers, thanks for the wonderfully informative video. I am moving with my family of 3 on the border of Royce city and Terrell, TX. We will be Neighbors... can't wait to learn more from yall ..
Hey kids! Safe trip to Asheville! Looking forward to all of your videos and be sure that Jared gives the all of us our Stainer fix while y'all are on the road.
Just found your channel. Such an informative video. You both seem very relaxed in front of the camera. I’m also following the Rhodes and Hollars. Good luck and blessings!
I was watching this one vlog and they were talking about growing Marigolds flowers in their Garden they say it tracks the good bugs and bad bugs are less attacked to the planets and it's you can eat them in salads I don't know check it out for your self
"Even if you're old" 🤣🤣🤣 I guess I fall into that category! You all are so lucky to live in an age with internet and UA-cam at your fingertips! Such a wonderful, vast amount of info available. I may have done this when I was younger but we didn't even have internet back then. Hard to learn homesteading from the library or city folks hehe. Keep doing what you do! Looking for ward to the videos when you meet up with Justin. Have fun!
I have the internet but I homestead in Vietnam. I couldn't read a word of Vietnamese. Different regions. Have different weather and crop. I pretty much wing it. The internet does not help much. Lol
I love that you guys look punk rock and are home steading. I honestly felt like I couldn’t relate to anyone else. I’m out here with to a of tattoos, piercings, dreads. It’s just nice to see others like me doing this too.
Loved watching the 2 of you! Can't wait to watch more and learn! We are new this year to the chickens & ducks (we have a pond though thankfully!). I can totally see how it's addicting, haha!
Those are the 2 best animals to get, if you want to be addicted haha we love ours and can't wait to get even more! (Now that we halfway know what we're doing with them)
Yea I learnt a lot ... Am Selasi Daniel from Africa (Ghana ). a new 22 years old homesteader .. Your works Rock's .. And I have been moved to doing more ..
I’m glad that you want to bring the new generation in. It’s just not “cool” to a lot of younger people and let’s face it, the people growing everyone’s food are aging. Younger generations not growing food or even wanting to take up that lifestyle is what’s allowing corporate entities to take it over! Keep it up, and if you bring in some new blood or just remind the “more seasoned” people how great that life can be I think it’s awesome!!!! Plus I love when you all prank each other! I’ve been doing pranks to my brothers since the 70s it never gets old!!
Hahaha hopefully we can leave an impact on some and maybe this will be the “cool” thing to do! Until, we’ll just keep living life and having fun doing it! Thanks Jason!
I love you guys! Love what you're doing! And especially love the nose rings and I'm getting one. Thanks for encouraging me. I'm in my 50s and I want to homestead and you guys just told me I can do it. Thank you . 😘 😘
My wife and I are planning to do the same. We are in West texas now to get out of debt before moving to montana. Lived 8 years in Colorado learned a ton about livestock and growing. Was wondering if starting a youtube channel has helped or worth doing.
The average American farmer is 58 years old. We NEED young people to want this lifestyle. We should be encouraging young farmers and young homesteaders, not putting them down. Self sufficiency is what we want to teach our children, so the next generation is not reliant of these predatory industries that got us in this mess in the first place!
I just turned 18 and I'm saving up for a house in Sweden that I can turn into a homestead. I'm still living in a small city in England but I can't wait to get out. Everything is so small here, I want to make it big.
I think that one of the more important things about homesteading and maybe life in general is to finish any projects that you start. Nothing is much more discouraging than half a dozen or more unfinished projects sitting around.
Thank you for the kind words! But don't be like us... be yourself! You've got this! Just set some goals and start marking them off as you go. Please let us know how your adventure turns out!
I love you guys! We have chickens and goats as well and totally agree with you, especially that chickens are the perfect starter animal. Question for you, what kind of audio equipment do you have? I have a lapel mic and it works okay but not awesome and the cord is a struggle. i don't see any mics on you and no cords. You guys definitely seem to have your equipment mastered.
We starting next year we are going to grow a small garden and i think we might have chickens for the eggs . We are not vegetarian's in this house hold but we eat animals that are.
New sub here. Just found you guys a few days ago. You'll make excellent parents someday. So happy you are doing this as young people and sharing your experiences (and mostly the mistakes, haha!)

You can definetly get enough protein from eggs.
ah, once you kill the first chicken the rest is easy
If you don't want to kill animals, you can easily get the necessary protein from a plant-based diet.

Oh and I love the usage of the barrels for collecting eggs!!! Probably a lot easier to clean than the darn wooden boxes!
Everything looking brand new, very nice!! Good luck!!! Cant wait for when I do this!!
Haha that's so great you named him lil Sebastian. Fantastic video, thank you!!!
Haha thank YOU!!😄
All of you do good. As for doing things the right way...the only right way is the way that works and, more importantly, works for you. Yall be safe on that trip and I hope yall have an AWESOME time!
That’s right! And that’s exactly what we’re doing! What works for US! Thank you so much!
Good job guys! I appreciate you guys. Keep it up!
That’s awesome Sandie!
My grandmother's little brother farm til he was 90 years old. The doctor just stop him from farming 6 months ago after surgery.
You will be better and healthier, May God bless you both your sister in Christ.
love

Good to see a young couple with great ambition. will follow you guys. Best wishes from South Africa
Thank you!
So proud of you guys.
Love the energy yall have❤❤❤
You 2 are amazing!!! Thanks for sharing this great video.
Thank you so much! We enjoy seeing your comments Connie!
You guys are so inspiring.
Bought our Oregon homestead last summer. Just got our first chicks. So far so good. I think we will limit ourselves to chickens for awhile.
My biggest tip to young people is to save every penny and be frugal...buy used save the difference before you start homesteading.
You guys are awesome....... gives me hope and motivation....
That's what I hated homestead in the USA. I moved to Vietnam and homestead. Too many crazy regulations.
This was very informative ty guys I've been gardening for years and I learn something new all the time .I wish I had a homestead maybe 1 day
Thanks! Yeah, same here, pretty much in everything we do, there’s always more to learn!
We totally agree! Learning the old ways is something we plan to do along the way!
Thank y’all 👏🏿 we’re new to this channel we are looking forward to homesteading
just found your channel, this is the MOST inspiring video I have ever seen! Subscribed!liked!
Just found your channel, I love it, very real with owning your mistakes. Love your energy and your truth. Thank you for all you will do..
Been watching your journey for a long time. I'm now farther south than your parents are down in the RGV.
This is my dream! Thank you so much for sharing your experience
I get that all the time. They say I look like Collin Farrell and sound like Tom from Parks and Rec haha
We just try to keep it honest! We got excited and bit off more than we could chew haha but we learned quickly!!
Wow. Such refreshing energy! Thank you for this video! You've given me the pep talk that was all I needed to know I'm headed down the right path!
you 2 are awesome, keep the dream alive.
Thank you! We are just doing our best!
I love what you’re doing. Keep it up. With your work ethic and determination I have no doubt that you will be successful.
Do things the way you want to and whether it turns out to be the right or the wrong way you will learn from it and teach others at the same time.
Thank you so much Sandra! We appreciate that! We totally agree!
LOVED this video guys! Y’all are so awesome!
Thanks girly! We need to make some plans to have you over again when we get back from NC!
I would love that!! Y’all have fun!
So cool to see people my age doing this!
Thank you!😄
WWO, thank you for all the information. regarding horses, yes, you can have a horse, but make it a full size horse to ride on, and to help you with work chores around the homestead.
Keep up the good work!

Thank you Mary and Leann!! We will drive safe and make sure Jared does a video with Stainer!!! haha
Just found your channel. Such an informative video. You both seem very relaxed in front of the camera. I’m also following the Rhodes and Hollars. Good luck and blessings!

I'm a single mom looking to homestead but I'm super scared to do it alone. You guys made it look easy, but I'm sure it wasn't.
This is inspiring!!!!
I was watching this one vlog and they were talking about growing Marigolds flowers in their Garden they say it tracks the good bugs and bad bugs are less attacked to the planets and it's you can eat them in salads I don't know check it out for your self
We'll have to check that out!! Thank you so much for that info!
Have fun!
Its a crazy world we live in! UA-cam is a huge advantage on this generation in so many ways!

Jus came across your chan. I love it. I want to continue watching your jurney
In the words of Joey Feek, it’s hard work, but it’s the best work, with the best payoff 🤗
I love your spirits and personalities! So motivating guys! 😀💜

My wife and I are planning to do the same. We are in West texas now to get out of debt before moving to montana. Lived 8 years in Colorado learned a ton about livestock and growing. Was wondering if starting a youtube channel has helped or worth doing.
So glad I’ve come to your channel
The average American farmer is 58 years old. We NEED young people to want this lifestyle. We should be encouraging young farmers and young homesteaders, not putting them down. Self sufficiency is what we want to teach our children, so the next generation is not reliant of these predatory industries that got us in this mess in the first place!
Glad I found your channel. I’m wanting to get into the homestead lifestyle with my family.
Spend a summer with someone else homestead before you make that commitment.

I think that one of the more important things about homesteading and maybe life in general is to finish any projects that you start. Nothing is much more discouraging than half a dozen or more unfinished projects sitting around.
