    These are the best wooden ramps I've seen on youtube. The idea of splitting the ramp from the "stand" part is inspired! Anyone whose worked under cars knows how annoying those tails are! I will be using this idea, thanks!

    I've seen quite a few wooden ramps on UA-cam.
    Yours are THE BEST!
    Thank you for sharing

    Randy has the best wood ramp design out of a dozen that I have seen. Nice two section attachment idea.
    In addition to the stop block in front on the top board, I want to make it long enough to have space for a chock behind the tire, whether a permanent chock or removable, I'm not sure yet. I don't trust parking brakes. 8 chocks or no go.
    Metal ramps will eventually fail from metal fatigue.
    Plastic ramps crush: plastic becomes brittle over time. And if plastic ramps slide while driving up them, they crack and crush.

      0† 4 All true. Good idea on making the top block longer for a wheel chock.

    Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for taking the time for posting the video and providing the instructions and measurement. This is the best DIY ramps on UA-cam.

    I pay to get my vehicle service but I can do it my self but I never trust using jack & jack stand so I was looking for a pair ramps to buy but was to expensive so I turn to UA-cam to learn to make my own ramp and after watching so many videos your video is the best one I love your idea & design and it's perfect for my need to feel safe,,,,, thank you and God bless

    I've had my wooden ramps from 2 x 10's since the mid eighties, could not get my car up on the steel ramp incline and never felt safe by jacking up and supporting with jack stands or plastic ramps while I got underneath. This detaching of the two sections is a great idea. I'll have to use a reciprocating saw or hand saw. Thank You for the idea.

    best design i've seen! thank you sir!
    i would've made the stop board a little taller though for safety..

      You’re welcome. I thought about making it taller but have never ran off of the end of the ramp. I’ve had a lot of practice lol. A little taller would probably be better.

    Nice design,two piece. Best I have seen. I'm doing a pair for a C4 vette. Gonna use 2x12's and go one board higher. I scored the used lumber for $20. Any final advice? Thanx bro.

      paul moss Thanks! The only advice I can think of is maybe make that top board removable if you plan on using it for any other vehicle, because if you use it for a pickup or SUV, it may be too high.

      if you wanted to you could make them full length (of car) if you prefer your car being level while changing oil (not slanted)

    Even with the weight of the vehicle on the 1/2" plywood starter strip does the ramp still tend to slide on concrete? Is that why you added rubber to the stand portion?

    • @randytempleton5797
      @randytempleton5797  4 роки тому

      Rob Luke That’s exactly what the starter strip is for, so ramp won’t slide. Same thing for the rubber. The only time I have problems with it sliding is with large pickups with large tires.

    This is great i like your idea. How high can you build it up to?

    • @randytempleton5797
      @randytempleton5797  7 років тому

      ArteOnez You can add more boards as needed. This height is a good all-around height for all cars. Real low cars, I kind of wish ramps were a little taller. But for tall vehicles they are almost a little too tall. So it's a happy medium. I'm thinking about somehow adding an extra board on top or bottom that would come off easy for lower cars. Sometimes on a low car if I want it taller I take my floor jack on one side of the car and jack it up a little, this works pretty good too. .

    These look great. Do you feel safe laying underneath the vehicle?

    • @randytempleton5797
      @randytempleton5797  7 років тому +3

      k bob Yes. Very sturdy. Safer than metal or plastic ramps in my opinion.

    It seems to me that it wouldn't really be necessary to bevel the edges. You might get better traction going up if you just leave them squared off. Thoughts anybody?

    Hi, may i ask what's the black paint for? Is that for the wet/weather proofing?

    • @randytempleton5797
      @randytempleton5797  5 років тому

      prancys arvin belandres No. It’s mainly for looks. Lol. The raw wood gets dirty, so I painted them.

    What size of the board you use Randy, is it (2" x 10") or (2" x 12")?
    I rented a garage, and the ground to where my car stands is not concrete, but bare soil. And when I used my scissor jack & jack stands, the thing just slowly sank. Do you think, when using this board ramp, would be much safer on soil ground? I have plans working underneath my car for some repairs. And I need a moveable space underneath to move my arms when pulling down my steering assembly.

    • @randytempleton5797
      @randytempleton5797  6 років тому +1

      Roel D Torralba They are 2X10. I think they will work fine on bare ground. I don’t think they will sink.

    • @roeltorralba7708
      @roeltorralba7708 6 років тому

      Randy Templeton Thanks for the board size Randy. I guess this type of method would be fine and safer to use, I just must sure, it is place both ramps level to the bare soil ground. Thanks again Randy.

    Randy, does the ramp raise the car by 6 1/2 inches?
