Note: Since all of these clips were some of the first railfanning videos that I had recorded in 3 years, all of these clips were filmed with my iPhone 6S without the use of a tripod. Because of this, some of the clips are particularly shaky, as well as containing other obscure things such as a section of the video being out of focus, or my finger accidentally getting in front of the lenses. I apologize if these clips seem disorienting to viewers, and I will make sure in future videos that the clips will be much more stable and less disorienting to view.
I will always remember the Capitol Corridor train because I live in Fresno California. My mom always comes visits us from Dixon, so we always see that train.
The Capitol Corridor doesn't run through Fresno though. The Amtrak trains that you're seeing in this video is the San Joaquin. Capitol Corridor trains use the same exact equipment, but run from San Jose to Auburn, north of Fresno
Thanks! Yeah I noticed that after watching the video that the mechanical bell at the median grade crossing on Ashlan ave. is dead sadly. I believe the one on Palm Ave. is dead too although I could be wrong since I have yet to railfan at that spot. Edit: As of 2021, the Palm Ave. mechanical bell has since been replaced with a WCH E-bell, making Ashlan Ave. the very last crossings in Fresno to have working mechanical crossing bells.
My neighbor and I have been displaced due to the Creek Fire, escaped with our cameras, and have been trying to make the best of things by railfanning in the city! We had great results with the Amtrak/BSNF tracks on Friday and I saw a good number of trains there and on the UP yesterday. Have you noticed patterns of busy and slow times in your time filming? Also my first ever job was working downtown Fresno and walking past these tracks daily. I just couldn't appreciate them back then!
Hi, thank you for your video. You have Amtrak, BNSF and SJVRR in your video, are there other freight companies that run on these tracks? Also, would you know how many times a day they run, and if it's more during the day vs. at night? I'm considering moving to Fresno, and looking at a place on the other side of City College, and wanted to assess how much of the train horn I'd be hearing from my prospective place. Thanks, Allison
No problem. The only other freight company that runs in Fresno is Union Pacific, however it is located on a different set of tracks closer to highway 99. As for how many trains run down here, it really just depends. Typically, when I railfan it's usually on Friday mornings through early afternoons to avoid encountering anyone suspicious. That's usually when I get the most trains, but even that depends. Regarding the horns, you'll definitely hear alot of horns, especially if you're planning to live in the Clinton/Maroa area.
There was another railroad crossing on West Ave, Dakota and Palm, Herndon And Golden State, Shaw And Golden State, Olive And Golden State, McKinley and Golden State. Can you do those soon?

It’s always intriguing to me the way BNSF places remotes and head end power. I kinda like it
Nice catches!

@@PrimeMoverRailfanProductions Sorry, I meant San Joaquin.
Nice catches! Ashlan ave has the last bnsf mechanical bells in fresno. It’s unfortunate one is dead but atleast one works!

@@PrimeMoverRailfanProductions thanks for the info, and happy railfanning!

Eventually I will. I plan on doing most of those crossings in separate videos though. Right now life has been a little busy lately.
