    Ahh the end of I 5 and Canada. Also fun fact the 49th parallel runs through the southern runway at Paris’ CDG

      I-5 have the final northern miles of US 99 and connects BC 99 from the 49th parallel north. BC 99 between the border and Vancouver is a freeway and between Vancouver and West Vancouver is an arterial having the Lion Gates Bridge and merges BC 1/TCH Main Route with the freeway section until BC 1 becomes a ferry route to Vancouver Island. BC 99 stays as a freeway section until Minaty Bay and becomes an arterial through Garibaldi Provincial Park and ends all the way connecting BC 97 near Historic Hat Creek.

      @@CrystalClearWith8BE A freeway connection between the border and BC 1 is desperately needed in some form. An upgraded BC 17 or BC 15 would be most logical, since there is zero chance of a freeway being built across Vancouver.

    An aside, at 1:30 is the exit for Washington Highway 20. Which goes to Anacortes, Whidbey Island, and Deception Pass. From Anacortes, you can catch Washington State Ferries to the San Juan Islands, and Victoria Island, BC.

    Thanks for showing us the North end of the I-5. Too bad the US/Canadian border was closed at the recording of the video.

    There's a history of the Oregon Territory bordering the US and British North America and then they both agreed for the 49th parallel north as what we currently have and Canada became independent on July 1, 1867.

    I adore this video! It's so therapeutic and like visual meditation. I live in SD now but lived in Seattle for 4 years. I much preferred crossing into the Canadian border than the U.S./Mexico border in San Ysidro.

    That bit about astronomical twilight was really fascinating. On a clear night in June I’d be heading home after closing up the bar and still be seeing some light in the northwest sky at 11:15 PM!

    Have you ever considered driving up into Alaska some day? If you did it would easily overtake 2022 as "the biggest season ever".

    • @InterstateKyle
      @InterstateKyle  2 роки тому

      Maybe one day.. the 2022 season is the biggest season ever just based on # or episodes. Currently at 35 and not even halfway done editing the season yet.. not sure if a Alaska trip would surpass 40 episodes if I’m being honest but you never know.

      @@InterstateKyle You have to factor in how loooong the drives are. British Columbia alone is over 1,600 miles of scenic forest and mountains, with Alaska and the Yukon being even more extensive- and there's always actually coming back from the trip.

      The Canadian territories and Alaska are very cold as they're on the north of our world.

    If you would have made this trip a few days later you would have been able to cross the border into Canada. Our border opened up to fully vaccinated US citizens at the beginning of August. Still waiting for our turn to head south. I miss it so much. Thanks for the tour of Peace Arch Park. I have never seen all the things which surround the Arch. It was quite interesting and actually the Peace Arch recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. Look forward to doing the I-5 again soon!

    Based on the overall traffic volumes, I would argue that it should be 6 lanes between Seattle and Vancouver.

    You were near the border and I'll tell you that crossing the border requires a passport and the border control checks objects and you just double checked the border and you're heading back to Seattle which is fine. What did you do aside from driving in the PNW?
    Any form of crossing the border illegally results you to be banned from Canada.

    • @PatrickDavis28
      @PatrickDavis28 2 роки тому +4

      If I remember right you can legally cross the border while you're in the Peace Arch state park, but only so long as you remain in the park. There are a few other "legal" border crossings but they are much further east.
