    Recently retired traveling salesman here. Oregon was my territory and is still my home. Ashland, Oregon to Longview, Wa was the 1-5 route I worked. Have driven this I-5 corridor at least 120 times over the past 30+ years. Ah, the life of a road warrior. Your video is outstanding and a great soundtrack as well. I could easily name all of the exits before they even showed up onscreen. One of my favorite drives along with coastal Oregon, Bend and heading east from Portland along the Columbia River. Thank you for sharing.

    Growing up in San Francisco area and then living in the Oregon Willamette Valley, we've driven I-5 for more than 50 years. Between Eugene OR and Redding CA has always been the best part for me. Modest traffic and stunning scenery.

    I used to make the drive from Seattle to LA nearly every year for many years. I lived in Washington and the rest of my entire family lived in SoCal, so I made the yearly trek, usually at Christmas or Thanksgiving. I always broke it into a 2-day trip, staying in Yreka or Weed, but sometimes ended up staying in Grant's Pass (when driving south) or Redding (when driving north) due to weather over Siskiyou Pass, which was often pretty gnarly, even if it was open. Fog was common also, not to mention freezing fog, super dangerous, especially for night driving. Over time, the drive became a burden to me and, as life happens, I went "home" less and less often, and when I did, I flew. Even then my family griped about having to wend their way thru LA traffic to pick me up at the airport, so around 20 years after I moved to Washington, I just quit going "home" and told my family, it's your turn to come visit me. But that stretch of I-5 covered in this video, especially the 4 passes at the beginning, are forever embedded in my memories, especially the time I almost ran out of gas between passes, hahaha. Back in the 70's and early 80's there were few services available thru that area. So, a nostalgic video for me, thanks for posting it.

    Thanks...you're the best!
    Question: you label the area as Oregon's southern coast Ranges. Aren't they really the Klamath mountains?

    Wow it actually gets sunny in Oregon? Looks beautiful as hell

      Southern Oregon is a lot more sunny and is very similar to Northern California compared to Northern Oregon.

      Summers in NW OR are generally sunny, warm and dry. The area often reaches 100 degrees F or higher each summer. And can go 30...40...50 days in a row, without any rain. August 9, 2020, the date this video was taken, Portland was sunny with a high of 82, the following day, it was also sunny, with a high of 90 degrees F.

    Born in Roseburg (just off exit 124) raised largely outside of Winston (exit 119) and with countless trips to Grants Pass and Eugene, along with College and life mostly in Portland, this video was intense as almost every part is seared in my brain. The funny part is from exit 113 to 119 is largely unknown because we would never take it going home! It was great to see this with another set of eyes. Love the production quality and what you add on top of the video. This video got very emotional to me. I'm going to need to chunk it up.

    My wife and I dream of escaping from Florida, which contrary to public belief is NOT a nice place to live. I've had people suggest Oregon, and I've thought about the Eugene area. We want to find a place where we have actual seasons, can have a garden starting in spring, and where our clothes don't mildew in the closet if we don't run AC 24/7 roughly 7-9 months out of the year. (Summer dewpoints in the upper 70s and low 80s.)
    This video makes me think that might be a good place to live. I love the mountains and having mountains near the seashore, well, that sounds heavenly to me!

      If you move to the coast, it gets hammered with rain in the winter, to the point where flooding and landslides can be a concern. And the rain is such that you'll have to occasionally get moss cleared off your roof. But yeah, inland, the summers are a lot drier and sunnier than people might think. And it's nowhere near as hot and humid as Florida, of course! Best of luck!

    • @RedHeart64
      @RedHeart64 2 роки тому

      @@andyjay729 I've thought of the Eugene area, maybe Grants pass, Medford, or Ashland. I'm a researcher (primarily archaeology) and would like to find someplace where my abilities are valued... not right on the coast but close enough to go there in a few hours, inland enough to escape some of the rain (maybe even get snow), but close enough to enjoy saltwater fishing (surf/pier).

    • @andyjay729
      @andyjay729 2 роки тому

      @@RedHeart64 One word of warning; Medford gets HOT in the summer; into the upper 90s or 100s. I don't know what it is about that particular microclimate, but every time I've been there (only during the summer) has been sweltering. It's a dry heat as opposed to Florida's humidity, but it's still pretty uncomfortable when it gets that hot.
      I don't know if the Roseburg/Sutherlin area is milder or not, but there's a direct road from Winston (just south of there) to the funky beach resort of Bandon.
