  • The best solution for a leaky mitral valve is keyhole mitral valve surgery which is now a proven technique experts use to repair or replace the mitral valve. The surgery avoids the traditional technique of breaking the breastbone, and instead, uses small cuts placed strategically between the ribs to achieve the goal of the surgeon.
    The UK Mini Mitral Trial 2024 has shown that this procedure is both very safe and effective when performed by experienced surgeons.
    In this video, Mr Inder Birdi, our lead cardiothoracic surgeon, explains:
    The function of the mitral valve
    The causes of mitral valve regurgitation
    The damage that severe mitral valve leak can cause
    The symptoms of mitral valve regurgitation
    The Indications for surgery
    Benefits of minimally invasive surgery to speed the recovery process and improve cosmesis

    Thanks for the video. Im having mitral valve surgery soon. Im 53. Fit. Had a successful cardioversion after developing permanent AF after exercising almost a year ago now.
    Your video on this ( and others) is greatly appreciated.
    You are very reassuring and knowledgeable.
    Thank you for what you do.

      Many thanks. I presume they are planning possible AF ablation and left atrial appendage closure too? Let us know how you get on. We would love to hear from you 👍🏽

    This is interesting,,,I had elongated papillary muscles, went for mitral valve repair(splitting and shortening of papillary muscles with patial annuloplasty). I might need another surgery as as it's regurgutating mildly again. Is minimal invasive re-repair possible in my case??

      Thanks for sharing. Yes sir. If you has breastbone before then the easier method to get the the mitral valve is by keyhole

    Do you have low blood pressure due to leaky mitral valve?

    Dr .very useful vidieo on MR. Does dehydration cause Mitral valve prolapse.Is Mitral regurgiation trivial cause of concern

    • @Thekeyholeheartclinic
      @Thekeyholeheartclinic  Місяць тому

      Hello and thanks. Dehydration no but low blood volume can create a condition called systolic anterior motion producing leak which is correctable with proper correction.
      Mild leak needs to be monitored.

      Dr Thanks for the clarification onMR with respect to dehydration. In the clarification you had said low volume of blood creates leak and can be corrected.Can it be corrected by medicines and magnesium rich food?.Regarding trivial regurgiation you had indicated to be monitored. How to monitor at home?. Kindly clarify.Regards,V.karunakaran

    Dr Does Mitral valve prolapse lead to sinus tachycardia?

    • @Thekeyholeheartclinic
      @Thekeyholeheartclinic  Місяць тому

      It can. Over time it also creates a serious heart rhythm disorder called Atrial Fibrillation which can cause stroke and heart failure

    I am nearly 75,After hospital tests,I was told I had a leak in my heart valve,and was told they will send for me in 2 years for another test,Is this normal to wait that long?

    • @Thekeyholeheartclinic
      @Thekeyholeheartclinic  10 годин тому +1

      Good question. It depends upon how severe the leak is.

      @@Thekeyholeheartclinic they said is was mild to moderate ,So can it get worse before the 2 years is up,which is 17 months away now
