I operate a cat 259d and a bobcat t630 both have 74hp weight about the same , bobcat is still the better machine, it has more ball when it comes to digging and busting out concrete drive sprockets last longer too on the bobcat
I hate to admit it, I’ve had 5 cat machines to date and bobcat are definitely the stronger machine
In my area, Charlotte NC, I see more CAT 289 and 259s than any other piece of machinery. A lot of the masonry contractors are running old bobcats, but as far as grading folks go, the CAT baby track loaders are where it's at.
I also end up seeing a large number of CAT 953 loaders being used for clearing and grading residential house pads.
Wesley Allen 100% true I am in charlotte as well
Could be more dealer support from Cat because of the contractors large fleet.
In Charlotte as well. Running 3 CAT units in Rental fleet Awesome product and great dealer support. One reason of CAT being everywhere is a superb salesman with Carolina Cat Chris is great ! ! !
My tail lights never pop out , because I don't back into anything. I would rather have them pop out than break. Rubber grommet is there for a reason. The covers is upgraded forestry package
The Bobcat that you were comparing to, had the forestry package. It is an optional thing. The open track design on the CAT is terrible as it leaves the hydraulic line exposed and susceptible to damage. Newer bobcats also have an open track design , but still keep the hydraulics protected. Anyone, curious about the CAT and Bobcat comparisons, should check out the Bobcat Advantage videos and contact a local dealer for any questions or concerns.
I like bobcat. Never compared the two though. Good video.
Thank you Chris
The back of the cat is as tall as the dudes head. I like the case/nh design, it has a rear view mirror that’s actually useable and a camera too.
Those covers and guards are the forestry package they off not really a revise just a additional package
Good video except for your buddy at the end talking about jumping curbs. It shouldn't matter if you have a multi terrain loader or fixed. Wood blocks should be used to prevent damage to the curb. Fixed track systems are also less maintenence and more rugged.
+brian king I use wood blocks when I am running Steel tracks or I stick down rubber mats to cross curb lines. I don't use anything to protect curb lines with rubber tracks or tires though. I have never had an issue.
One of the biggest things I look at when it comes to machines is the back door. Bobcat hands down makes the best door, very heavy steel. But on the other ends of the market is Deere, Cat... almost every other brand all locate their radiator right behind the door. What happens when you back into a stump, or into a log, or a cement wall. Radiator will almost 90% of the time be damaged, or just gone.
That’s a good point.
stan what track loader do you like best? i heard the Takeuchi are incredible machines.
All that Cat needs a Demo-Dozer and will be one tough machine to beat. I ran Cats for Years and had Demo-Dozers on all of them.
what im am seeing here are a bunch of salesmen from cat that have no clue what they are talking about.we own a rental house in ny have have all bobcat track loaders .bobcat has the best track system made.i like the fact you guys are comparing all the space under the cat track loader undercarriage.terrible design.the reason bobcat has a enclosed system ,it was designed with the demolition contractors in mind .this open area is nothing but trouble ,steel rod demo materials large rocks all end up in this area when u are using it for cleanup.we used to rent 2013 cat loaders and demo contractor would complain all the time.about tracks coming off rollers.also we were seeing a lot of wear to the underside of the track because material that had easy access .this is the reason why bobcat uses a closed protected system.when it comes to knowing the durability of a machine dont waste your time with salesmen, ask someone who is in the rental business
We have had two cat skidsteers for demo, well one because the other is ripped apart for spare parts. Cat is complete trash when it comes to service. The amount of parts that aren't serviceable like the drive hydraulic pump is ridiculous. Every time something goes wrong with a cat it's $2500
Jay Schmidt what would be your opinion about case or John Deere... even on tires.
I cant say for sure whether or not CAT paid them for this video but this guy has Bobcats all over the place in his videos... Travis can also be seen running Bobcats in some of his videos. Wouldnt really make sense for CAT to pay these guys to act as "salesmen" when the rest of their UA-cam channels feature mostly Bobcats being put to work...
Dont waste time on sale man,, ask rental,,, ××!i love that horny speac,,××
🤫🤫🤫 u don’t have a clue what your saying
Oh man, I miss being an Operator and running a 299D skidsteer. I put over 1000 hours on that skidsteer. Unfortunately, with it being the newest model on the market, it had a lot of technical difficulties (more so electrical, such as false alarms showing up often on the screen). The D has to be my favorite model, with C being the absolute WORSE model I've ever ran. And I've ran both rubber tire and track loaders.
I've never ran a Bobcat skidsteer before, but I have ran a Takeuchi skidsteer before, and that wasn't a half-bad machine. I never had the chance to branch out to different brands, mostly because the two construction companies I worked for, only bought CAT machines (which I wasn't arguing in the least).
I never like running the first year a new model comes out. Always seem buggy-no matter who makes it....
What go bad with the c series compared to d series
good video man i just had a cat skeed loader burn up and it sucks stay positive man and smile more
+John Mays Good Luck with your skid loader! Sorry to hear it burned up on you.
What year and model was your cat that burned up
I have never had a Bobcat light pop out. Here in south Florida we have coral rock, no sand. That eats rubber tracks for breakfast lunch and dinner.
chargermopar work is below zero conditions for 4 months and then 100 degrees and plastics tend to do weird things.
I wood not advise switching. Great vid
I've got a 04 277 cat and love it. I live in a sandy area North of twin cities and is always in sand and gravel. it's got 8000 hrs with one replacement engine and 3 sets of tracks. it gets abused alot. I even pick up small car bodies and move them around. it's a brute. it gets good maintenance and run hard. I not going to complain. I even grew up using 642, 753, 763, and s180 bobcats and we're all great machines but when it comes to tracked loaders I'll lean towards cat. I've ran just about every make out there and they all have their place. I got to use a Kubota once I kinda liked it, probably because it was way newer than my cat. Also my neighbor has a bobcat A300, that machine is awesome.
MCCORMICK10202236 we have a 1982 bobcat 642 and it still runs like a dream
Never once have we had a light pop out on our T650 without the clear plastic over them. Only problem it's ever had is a leaking bob-tach cylinder that was fixed under warranty same day we brought it in.
Thats awesome!
I've ran a lot of equipment over the years and cat is one of my favorite but my new favorite is Takeuchi they make one hell of a piece of equipment there track skid steer alsome they also make the Geil and mustang & yanmar track skid steer same thing different graphics
+John Furey I haven't tried the other brands yet.
the lights come out on the bobcat for a reason say you backed into a tree and hit a big branch on the lights if the lights didnt pop out they would break their for need to buy new lights. although its annoying its for a reason
those covers on the lights and the Velcro canvas over lift arm access, is for a forestry kit.
Sweet- Thanks for clarifying!
smilley face also. can be had with heavy duty grates over the windows, and an extremely thick front door glass. The hydraulic connections are heavily shielded as are some other parts. it is one badass setup.
The fabric cover is to help keep those forestry bits from dropping in and catching fire.
Personally cat machines have worked great for me. Caterpillar calls me when the machine needs serviced, because the machines lets the service department know its time for a service. I don't touch my machines, no need to, unless we are working in dust and it needs a air filter change. Never had a problem with any of my cats or my dads cats machines. Suppose if I let the hours get past 3000 then there might be issues, but I sell the machines before they hit 3000 hrs. Cats are Solid machines all the way around. My dads old 2005 287cat just keeps on going and he runs that skid steer hard. I am very happy with my two caterpillar skid steers 226d and 259d
Dan Kruger yeah I'm sure they grease you good, especially when you can't see when they're coming from behind lol
out of the three track steers (john deere, cat and bobcat) that ive spent a considerable amount of time in, I found I really don't like bobcat. john deere and cat will out do bobcat when it comes to production. john deere I got the most production out of but broke down a lot, Cat was a close second on production and reliable, but has a noisy cab from the hydraulic pump and finally bobcat I found slow and under powered. All machines were approximately the same size.
I run a couple of them. Nice.
Thanks for watching Donald !
both great looking capable machines.
Yes sir!
Excellent video guys.
+Lsatq Thank you!
My dad bought his bobcat used 16 years ago and we beat the shit out of it everyday and no problems today this day
the Bobcat show in the video with the plate going over the exhausted over the lights and cover the Hydraulics is called a forestry machine it so she doesn't catch on fire
Thank you- that makes sense.
We actually had our bobcat lights pop out and melt!!
I feel like this video is made by a couple guys who have never operated these machines for any length of time. Salesmen is all they are. I have had my T650 for 5 years and 350 hours and have had Zero problems.
Great video guys!
Anytime I looked at cats they are way over priced. I run Takeuchi track loaders seem to be the best for my application
i never used one but i sat in one i really like the front no blind spots but it seemed like the back sticked out a lil to much hopefully ill use one one day
Wondering if you have ever cut the exposed hyd. drive hoses when cleaning the undercarriage on the Cat machine? I like the Deere design better every bit as open as Cat but Deere shields the drive hoses.
I wouldn't know- I don't run Cat skid steers. I have mostly used John Deere, Bobcat and New Holland.
I have a 2000 s250 Bobcat with 8000hrs on it and we beat the hell out of the machine daily, The engine has never been opened or worked on factory sealed.Has never broke down once enginewise, the old kubota engine is bulletproof. Of course we have replaced wear parts and hoses.this bobcat has 9 lives.
Hello my friend, did you tell me how much this bucket bulldozer is worth
The Bobcats push stronger but tend to get lazy on the Boom where the cat is super strong on the Boom but it seems to be lazy on the push
I'll never own anything other than cat skid & mini's... they simply are the best.
+Travis C They are quality machines all around.
+Truck Talk Radio everything on them are very easy to gain access too. they have a ton of power, easy to work on. the mini's are sooooooo smooth. love it
Bahaha
Cats are weak. Best track loader is a Takeuchi in the dirt. I guess if you’re going cruising for chicks the CAT is OK
That depends on what system on the machine needs fixing. The DEF system on the 299D and 299D2 is junk. Also the MTL undercarriages are a pain in the ass to fix.
great vid bro ...travis out some awesome insight
+Supreme Services Lawn Care Travis has crazy insight on machinery.
The new bobcats have the big open undercarriage like the cats and they are really easy to clean out
Can't wait to see that!
The extra gear on the Bobcat is part of a Forestry kit.
+Jason Dean Good to know- Thanks!
It was nice to meet you at the expo Stanley. I would like to see someone make a video about creating an alliance with other lawn care businesses in the local area. sbr lawn is my youtube channel.
+Scott Richards Nice to Meet you! I do have a video about working with your competition.
I will watch it today. Thanks again. You. Remind me of Richard of grease monkey garage. Have a great day and make lots of money enjoy the weather
What is the best skidsteer for snow and stack vs tires? Thank you
track not stack
What is the difference between 242D and 242B? Thanks
Rented a bobcat and a cat. The bobcat ride like a shopping basket and the arm bar seems.... Outdated. They still mount the engines sideways with a belt? And the fan is stupid loud. The cat has faster response rates on joysticks, quieter, reversing cooling fan, you can actually shake the bucket and it rides smooth.
Don't listen to salesman. To rent it and actually try it. I ended up buying a rental 299d2 cab, ac. I'd do it again. Even with the price, a Kubota svl95-2 was 46k and my cat was 57k. Worth the difference. Wish mine had the Kubota roll up door tho.
I know your a busy man Stanley...but I'd love if if you could get one of your machinery ops presenting in a video, like a skid/track 102 video! Some of us want to add light landscape to our service offerings, and are kicking around the purchase of utility tractors or loaders. I'm subscribing now, you guys are simply fantastic. Thanks!
+climbthatmountain Thank you!- I will try and do something like that.
Stanley how would you like to do a review on this ua-cam.com/video/5v1m1VtEi-A/v-deo.html
What’s awesome about the caterpillar is you have to take the engine out to service the DPF filter…🙃
If anyone tells you it can be done from under the cab, that person more than likely has a pierced taint…😜
Its funny because all these cat/ bobcat equipment have the same keys so if they have a cat key your machine can be taken or messed with
Mishka the Fox the newer bobcats have keyless start. You punch in your 5 number code hit enter and turn the ignition. No need for keys.
These guys dont have a clue what they are talking about. The two most important components on a track loader are the engine and the drive motors. Bobcats tier 4 solution does NOT use a dpf filter and at 74 hp and below, does not use def fluid either. Cat uses both. Cat drive motors are planetaries that spin at 5,000 rpm, creating huge heat temperatures that break down your bearing oil lubricity and contribute to early drive motor failures. Planetaries are very slow, around 4 mph on low and maybe 7 or 8 mph on high. Bobcat uses direct drive motors that spin at 300 rpm, resulting in much lower operating temperatures where your oil maintains its ability to lubricate and doesn't break down. Also, Bobcats low speed is 5.5 and high is 10.5 mph. Far superior visibility on the bobcat as well. The plastic covers over the lights was not Bobcat admitting a design flaw, it's part of their forestry package. I'd rather have a light that pops out and back in then one that breaks and needs replaced. I could go on and on but Bobcat absolutely builds the best track loader...hands down.
What's your opinion on Deere?
I like them!
I like the new hollan and gehl. Prefer the controls on the new hollan tho.
+Danny Smith New Holland has a lot of power-but I don't like their controls.
Being you like the hand foot controls really shows your age. I grew up with hand foot control in the 90's The young guys I hire these days don't know how to run hand foot controls and I laugh when we stick them on my the bobcat that we keep around the shop. They feel stupid moving the sticks around. But I do agree with them that the joy stick controls we have on are Cat skidsteers are way more precise and easier to use, they just take time to get used to them.
How did you like Louisville Ky
I just plan on keeping my 1982 bobcat 642. All you gotta do is start it up and go instead of doing all this other crap
dont even have to check the oil!?! haha
So the Caterpillar is just a Bobcat with a lot of little things improved? The real question is, is it worth the price?
Barth Slung no
Are you thinking of switching to Cat after this review?
+PrimoLandscaping.ca No- I have a great relationship with my Bobcat Dealer- fast affordable service. This makes a huge difference.
bobcat and that's it ?
The bobcat is way better for demolition
have you reviewed the new bobcat compact track loader designs? the seem to have addressed many of those issues on the new M-series, i dont know from experience but the bobcat track system seems stronger built (now). i am looking into buying one for my fencing business to operate a hydraulic post driver, but i will be on very diverse terrain here in south dakota and colorado
+Mason Stansberry Nope- no experience with the new track design.
Bobcat is the best.
+cat 977L I love my Bobcats!
bobcat nation !!
But at least dont need to be changing the hydraulic hoses each time in the cat than in the bobcat
Cats the boss
bobcats any day
Who makes the cat machines?you do know that they just paint them and put stickers on them don't you?
ua-cam.com/video/xLWDbLxdJi4/v-deo.html&feature=share
What did u think of the kubota u drove ?
+Cameron Harris Well... Since it was new it was awesome-BUT almost any new machine is :)
As I near retirement I've been thinking about buying a skid steer and doing the equipment operator thing. If any of you have opinions on the Kubotas SSV's, I'd love to hear them!
Jack Maher I sat in one before and the cab on the kubota is massive compared to any other brand
Good to know! Did you get to operate it at all?
Maybe what I need to do is spend my first year working for a contractor. That way I can learn how to operate them in a variety of environments and have a pro teach me the ropes.
I never got to operate one but most of them have the joystick controls. I personally am a fan of the hand and foot controls.
Hey Jack a few things to consider, what are you going to use the machine for? Snow, Landscaping, Landscaping on grass soft surfaces, where low ground pressure is needed , a track machine. Plowing snow , tires machine is the only way to go. And get good tires (tire are much cheaper to replace than rubber tracks), two speed. Spend the money for heat and air conditioning . If your going to run the machine for long periods (I plowed snow in a S300 for 17 hours "one time") foot controls were nice to switch over to ,to give your wrist a break. I am an operating engineer local 150 , 18 years and I like Bobcat (mine are 753 and an old 600 fluid clutch it has a backhoe attachment) for ease of maintenance, open the back end up and look where is the battery, fuel filter, oil filter, starter motor, alternator things your going have to get to for maintenance and or repair. Some of these guys on the videos are talking about the rear lights coming out, well I have never lost a tail light. I look before backing up!!! I use different makes and models and almost all will get the job done . It like me trying to tell you which is better.... Ford, Chevy, Dodge all will get you down the highway, but all I can do is tell you what I like better . Good luck.
the tracks on the cat skid steer loader are the weak point and will cost you 10.00 per hr in maintenance costs
could you tell me why that's true or explain the costs you have experienced. I have a 259d and was wondering about that
Hey Dan always willing to pass on what I know so people can make informed decisions.I had a friend that owned several cat tracked skid steer loaders he told me the tracks were weak and wear quickly and are expensive to repair after I talked to him I researched the tracks and low and behold the tracks are molded with rubber knobs on the inside that mate with the drive "gear" the rubber knobs are prone to shear off under torque.
I would get a skid steer loader with steel bars molded into the tracks that engage an actual drive gear Hopefully this explains this to you
If you need more info PM me and I will PM you back with my phone number
what you are talking about is the MTL undercarriage, not the CTL undercarriage shown in this video on both machines. The CTL is steel on steel drive in track and there are several options for rollers depending on usage.
I'm glad you researched this because the cat tracked loaders put my friend out of business because of the added 10.00 per hour plus added maintenance cost
good luck to you
subscriber # 5000 =)
+Rob The WindowCleaningDude AWESOME!! Thank you!
Glad u said u cant see out of it .....any were ... u said nothing about the front door that only opens 3/4 of the way .. not well layed out at all
Bob cat is now a Korean machine
Dale olson still built in SD
@@jeffposter6832 Gwinner North Dakota
@@dorich33 sorry yeah you're right.
Bobcat is not far from CAT,, they work just as good as any machine,,, , i only thing i dont like is color,,, white is not a play in dirt, match,, white is more of beauty eye candy,,, but who knows,,
ABC>>> Anything But Cat... if business owners remember this they will not get burnt on skid steers
what if you're doing real work..like demo
+John Harris We do Demo a lot- I don't like using tracks on demo because of the tears that can happen.
I actually a big fan of...wait for it...John Deere Skid steers! They are FANTASTIC machines! They feel as stable as a New Holland with a low center of gravity and the pedals are smooth like butter. Not a huge fan of Thomas or Bobcat...bouncy bouncy
+omnimous69 Yes- My Bobcat is bouncy but reliable. I have had many John Deeres -snapped the "SuperBoom" in half on one. It didn't seem to Super after that-lucky it was under warranty.
Excuse me............John Deere does not have a "SuperBoom". Your either talking about New Holland or JCB. As someone who has worked the GIE show many times as a vendor it is pretty clear that your simply working for Cat. Notice how the Cat employee's leave you alone for an uninterrupted video.
Steve Stelk new Holland made John deeres skids for many years. How do you so called pros not know this
Cat skid steer compared with a real Bobcat .... not a chance!
Keep building dozers and graders give up on skid steers
Believe me this machine is what dirtying your name
Mowhawk wouldnt fly on my jobsites either. No camo either. I mean maybee if this were a bit on favorite Pantera songs but I cant take this very seriously as a buisness video
+brian king You should listen to some of his other stuff, Mohawk and camo or not- the guy is brilliant. I interviewed him on the Landscape Business pro podcast and he has other videos. I think He is Energetic and engaging.
As a Caterpillar Production Technician I can tell you, our engines are the best bar-none.
+Robert C. Austin III Cats are quality for sure.
Stanley, you look like a cat guy. All business, no bs, great service.
Both machine are ragged out at 3k hours ... machines are asked for 100% for their whole life .... New broom sweeps well ... uncaring pig operators eat a machine in no time .....
Very true-
uuju
+Morgan Adams aaba
Comparing a Cat or ASV to a Bobcat is like comparing Carrie Underwood to an 80 year-old lady in a nursing home!!! Bobcat's with all hand controls really suck. The idiots who designed them obviously never have to run them or they would have segregated the control functions per-side. Instead they mixed up the controls so you have to use BITH of them for movement and BOTH of them for the bucket and boom. On a Cat or ASV the left stick controls ALL the movement and the right one controls ALL of the bucket and boom functions.
MUCH easier to operate and MUCH easier to remember which one does what.
If you runs a Bobcat with hand controls and like it better than a Cat or ASV there is no hope for you!!!!!!!
rod builder what are you even talking about bobcat has two types of controls foot pedals or joystick
