This is my part of the world. I’m originally from Wollongong and grew up in Austinmer. Apart from the electrification line, nothing much has changed since I left in ‘83. The stations pretty much look the same. I do remember the old coal trains that used to pass through. I enjoyed this video.
It's seems illogical, but for some reason I always thought they ran the steelies to Brisbane up through Robertson. I love that stretch of the south coast line.
Yeah nope! Not unless there was trackwork or something on between Wollongong and Sydney they would always go via the sth coast.. In order to run loaded up that line they need banking engines and use 3x more fuel so its really a last resort! Coming down empty on the other hand is doable and they do with the MW (Mel-Wol) runs but coming from Brisbane would be pointless to use that line!
Sorry for late reply, we haven't seen NR18 since September 2021! and above all else with PN losing the steel contract they were on the way out anyway...
Huge numbers of diesel locomotives on some of these trains that run underneath electric wires. Does it not make sense to use electric locomotives instead? Especially at today's diesel fuel prices??@@south_coast_freight_

Some very spectacular locations mate, I think you'd really enjoy it down here!
It's more enjoyable when the big boys run through town and have to get up to line speed through Unanderra where I live at the moment
The horn on the NR Class locomotive sounds similar to a dl class locomotives horn here in nz at 1:05
Great captures 👏👏👏👏😊👍👍

Thanks heaps!!
@@south_coast_freight_ just my personal opinion!
Hello from California. These locomotives are awesome. Are they diesel? They sound electric.
Hello Chris, yes these are diesel locomotives
