Shunting Clyde in the 90s - Along The Lines

- A few clips of trains shunting at Clyde showing the make up and variety of wagons that went into the yard in the early 90s.
Also has some clips from other locations including the Sandown line.
Awesome, I only spent 3 weeks at Clyde.... Holiday relief spent time at Sydney Yard, Darling Harbour, Darling Island, Botany, Meeks Road, Homeshush Saleyard, Mortdale CS and Trackfast, Car and Wagon grades.
Seeing the Clyburn Station platform brings back memories...as an apprentice fitter I did 6 months at Clyde using that platform every day....out of normal hours we had to let the guard know to signal the driver to let us off on the way to work and had to flag down suburbans on the way home.....all now long gone and no sign of where it used to be....thanks.
I recall it being there and covered in weeds in the 2000s, when it brought back childhood memories. They must have ripped her up fairly "recently" (2010 is still recent to me 😔).
Still some remains of it in situ, largely demolished but if you know what to look for it’s easily spotted

It would've taken nerves of steel to stop traffic on Parramatta road, scary to see the speed 4917 was carrying for the climb up to Clyde yard, suggests full tankers.
WOW.. Thanks for this footage. Brings back many memories, I spent many MANY hours in this yard shunting and sleeping on 48's and 49's at this period and later on in the 90's. Wasn't all that fond of doing it at the time, but I sure do miss it now.

Great bit of History, no High-Vis or Safety Boots. 86 class Electric Locos bringing coal from Lithgow. Early Tangara set . Completely mind blowing !
Plus an Indian Pacific under electric loco power and a few red rattlers thrown in as well.☺☺

This would have been 1991 at the latest, as that is when the single deck red rattlers were withdrawn, and same for the railcars to Richmond.

Excellent video Alan. Thanks for sharing. So much there for the historian or modeller with such a variety of locomotives, rollingstock & yard scenes. Some of the characters and shunting techniques reminded me of the film footage of the Darling Island shunters in the 70's.

Fantastic video. I love just the OHS differences between then and today. The shunting and driving operations themselves are great, but 29:43 flying across Paramatta rd like that is just mind blowing.

@@superwombatis it really Parramatta road?? 😱. Good thing the motorists were on the ball too! It wouldn't be easy to walk out into four lanes with only a flag. Amazing footage these days.

Thank you for sharing. Milk tankers, fly shunting, 49’s, and that crossing protected by flag men with a train coming at full tilt definitely made for an entertaining watch.

This is good quality footage of the last years of Sydney as a working industrial city. Nice memories.
BTW, 29:48 is an extraordinary level crossing by todays standards. What road is that?
