    Another solution (if you want to keep your original axle) is spray welding, you can add material on the thinner section then machine it. For the people that doesn't know what is it, it's like giving a shower of molten metal sparks to your piece while he's turning on a lathe. You end up with a raw larger OD that can be machined.
    However, I have no idea how much is the average cost... I guess it's not too expensive being a pretty simple process.
    I'm watching your videos from Italy, I think you are a very good fabricator man, don't stop making videos! You are also very, very good to explain even difficult concepts. Don't underestimate this dude. If you can, keep it up. Cheers 🤙

      Thank you my friend! I’ve never heard of that process. I think a greater challenge than cost is finding someone that can do it. It was hard enough finding someone to simply cut and re-spline my axles. 🤷‍♂️
      I appreciate your kind words. And I’m happy to hear that my videos are making it all the way to Italy! Thank you again! And there’s more videos on the way soon. Cheers!

      @@GarageFab Thank YOU! I'm happy that my weird english is understandable 🤣. Btw, there are several channels here on youtube that shows the process if you are interested, one of them is Abom79. I'm thinking this process just might be how they are able to do re-grinds on old camshafts that are no longer in production? I sent in my old CB 350 Honda camshaft and had it reground to different timing and profile to "hop" it up a little bit. That was done here in California by Megacycle Cams.

    Arron, I used a 97 Ford Exploder rear end. I f remember correct i cut the drivers side axle tube off and cut out the rest of the tube out of the housing, cleared out the plug weld. the end i cut out was machined but i only ground the tube to refit fit back into the diff case, then I went and bought a right side axle which is 3.5" shorter then the left on the 97. It comes out to the stock mighty max axle width. Yes I should have had the tube machined would of made it easier but you know how cheap i am. I have no bearing shavings as far i am aware of.

      I do recall you using two right axle shafts. I would’ve done the same but the wheels I want to use require an axle that’s even narrower than the Mighty Max.
      I’ve got bad news about my truck. But rather than tell you here I’ll advise you to go check out a really cringey video I did called The Rotisserie.

    Dont know the length of the rear montero sport axle but i would asume is as narrow as the 1st gen montero and as a bonus some models have disc brakes. So in essence more options also since the 97-99 is leaf spring amd the 2000 up is coil spring and both come in drum and discs. Just throwing an added option in case some one is interested in keeping 6 lug and going disc brakes.

    • @Iowa599
      @Iowa599 Рік тому +1

      Lol!
      You said the problem with narrowing the Mitsubishi axle is that the tube won't fit in your jig, so it's impossible to narrow.
      The axle is steel, so it can be welded. Make it so it bolts to the outer flanges, then has two cross braces (180° apart) welded to the inner axle tube. After you cut & trim the outer section, bolt it back into the jig with a spacer making up for the amount shortened.
      If you cut on an axle tube diameter change it may be possible to slide the outer section of the tube inside of the inner section (telescopic). Then it could be easier, than the Ford axle, because you wouldn't need trim out a section!
      I have no idea what you'll use for axle shafts!

    may you make a video how to widen axles? I live in Indonesia and we do not have access to parts and tools like in the US. As we customize a lot here i want to widen my axles by nearly 3 inches... any idea?

    • @GarageFab
      @GarageFab  2 роки тому +2

      I don’t know if I’ll have the opportunity to make that video. My next project will have CV axles rather than the solid axle like my Wife’s truck.
      Widening would be a very similar process. If at all possible, I would try and get two axles. You could cut the ends off one axle tube, and then cut the ends off the other axle inward 1.5 inches. Then weld on the longer ends to gain your 3 inches.
      The only safe option is to purchase custom axles that are made 1.5 inches longer to fit your newly made axle housing.
      I hope this helps! I’m excited to hear Garage Fab has reached Indonesia!! Good luck my friend!

    I hope you can help me out. I just found your channel and I have a 1992 MM Manual 4g64 motor .
    I have swapped out the gas engine for a 2.5L 4d56 Diesel Or a brand new Hyundai d4bf turbo diesel . it was a direct bolt up to me tranny. but I would like to get a Taller gear Ratio. Like a Ford 2.73 Rear end to lower my highway rpms as it is over reving the diesel at antthing faster than 55 mph. will a Mustang rear end differential pinion flange bolt up to the MM Driveshaft?

    • @GarageFab
      @GarageFab  8 днів тому +1

      @@2davydo It does NOT. In order to get this combination to work you’ll need to have a driveshaft made or modified. I suspect you might need to do this anyway unless the tail of your transmission is in the exact spot it was before the swap.
      Your custom shaft will simply have the slip yoke and front U joint that matches the transmission and the rear U joint/flange that matches the differential.
      Happy to have you my friend! Best of luck.
