Just purchased this tutorial, I checked, this is the 21st tutorial I've purchased from you guys, and one of the best yet! (my favorite is still The Cupcake Tutorial), I think I purchased my first from you guys in or around 2014 and since then have successfully edited more than 50 professional projects, but like you said there are a lot of little tricks & tips that make it well worth while to spend the time going through the lessons. Thanks as always Steve, this is another great tutorial.!

Even though I've been using FCPX for more than ten years I did learn quite a few new tricks from this film. It's one of the clearest and simplest guides I have seen on youtube for editing with FCPX. Very well done!!

So I left Adobe Premiere Pro the other day. The reason I left, the dang thing wouldn't open, "Failed to initialize" and all the work arounds didn't work other than restarting the machine and plugging my external monitor in after the program was opened. This can't be the fix. It just can't I refuse to use it until I read it is patched. I pay a lot for it to not work.
I made my first movie in FCP. It wasn't fast, it was kind of intuitive, but it worked. I had some issues with files losing audio and then some files zooming in way too much, probably my fault, but I figured it all out. It just made sense. Now, I have to crush the edits. I am a leader in my field, but I am not fast. I need to be faster, but I film a lot, multiple angles, replays, captions. I make the movie I want to sit down and enjoy. And yes I am my biggest fan and my worst critic.
Then came this video I was recommended by trying to find motion on text objects and key framing. This video was fabulous. The VLOG type subject matter wasn't my jam, but I really dug all the elements being brought together. The counting of music, genius, who would have ever thought of such a thing? I just look at the highs in the music and make a blank caption and use that as a spacer typically.
Thank you for the effort of putting this together.

A 50 minute video lesson turned into 2 hours of learning. I have been using iMovie for years and have done well with it. I have had FCP for a year and now have the time to start to learn it. FCP has a learning curve and your video helped tremendously. Thank you.
Glad I can watch on my iPad Pro and edit on the Mac. Top tip for anyone else doing this. Allowed me to watch pause and edit.

Explained topically, systematically and incrementally better than ANY FCPX tutorial I have seen - and I have seen dozens. "line upon line; precept upon precept." Great care was taken to direct the viewer through each step, applying a clean slate as he moved through different skill sets. Without question I will pursue more teaching from this man.

Thank you for this concise and well-developed tutorial. While I’ve owned FCPX for a few years, I never felt like I was learning a good workflow for video production with it. This has been the BEST hour of training that I’ve ever had. I look forward to applying these skills to future projects. Now looking into your Motion tutorials to learn how to use that application effectively. Thank you very much!

Bravo! A few minutes ago I cancelled my subscription to a skill sharing website because they failed to deliver anything comparable to this free class and the full tutorial you also offer.
The distinction is quality, course planning, preparation, delivery, and pacing. You have it, they don't. You supply the course materials so I can follow along. Of course!
My only suggestion - to students - is to try to have a dual monitor configuration when you take the course. That way, you can pause and try something, then continue. Or back up and review what was missed.
A tiny bit about me. I'm pretty familiar with Pinnacle Studio Ultimate on Windows but am entirely new to Final Cut Pro and the Mac OS. So, in my case, I know what needs to be done, I just don't know how to do it with Mac OS and Final Cut Pro. Especially the keyboard shortcuts which are so much more important in Final Cut Pro.
    Thanks for the excellent tutorial.

I doubt you will see and answer after 2 years. But when I try to replace I don’t get a menu, with drop downs. The clip overwrites the other clips and the remainder of the old clip is still there. If I delete, I have a gray box left behind. How do I turn this off?

    • @rippleguys

You need to use the selection tool (A) - the behavior you described is that you are using the Position tool (P) - which performs an overwrite edit, not a replace edit - cheers

Hi Steve, I've learned a lot from your first video and will follow up by subscribing to your course. But first, FCP rendering my first video files blew up my storage with as result freezing FCP and my Mac. I've exported all source files to an external disk and got my timeline intact, but now FCP tells me that my project files are SDR wheras new files are HDR! What should I do?

    • @rippleguys
      @rippleguys  Рік тому

a couple of things. The files I provided are extremely small - under 700 megs - Why on earth would the files I provided "blow up your storage" - especially when no rendering is necessary if you have a fast machine. And even if you did have to render, you're only talking about few gigabytes of render files on any hard drive. Second. All the files I provided are SDR not HDR. The Library I have you create in the lesson is SDR. There is no reason you should be getting any warning about HDR, UNLESS you are importing files into the library other than the ones I provided.

Final Cut Pro and have really appreciated this training video. I was buzzing along until 10 minutes left of training and Final Cut Pro quite unexpectedly. I chose "reopen" and everything was gone. Trying to work out if the project was saved or should I have chosen to save somewhere. Not a great introduction to using FCP! And so glad it happened in training and not my own first project!

I have not been using FCP just because I didn't understand it as well as iMovie and seems way more complicated. I’m glad I came across your tutorial. There are many on UA-cam, but you showed some valuable editing points, things I never would have found otherwise. I’m one for perfection and precise detail when it comes to editing, including audio editing. Spot on. Thank you.

I have been using FCP without understand the basics. I can do some simple editing but the process was frustrating and not efficient. After watching your video, everything comes together. Thank you so much.

Hello Steve, Your training video taught me FCP 10.0 many moons ago. I've recently returned to FCPX and this video helped me get back to speed. Many thanks for all you do.
