Something to consider for the next model: 1)USB C powered. I can see from another answer elsewhere that the tech isn't quite there for them to be powered via USB C only, but it would have been nice to at least charge them via USB C so you can prolong their battery life when on the road for a while. 2)Support of a high quality bluetooth codec like Aptx Adaptive, LHDC or LDAC If you include the above to its current features I believe these speakers can really be the main, only pair of high end speakers for a lot of people. Ones that can be used in almost every scenario, so not only for travelling, studio work, a get together with friends but also as permanent office desktop speakers or as a small city space setup in a living room for movies and music.
These will be such a good idea for me when I’m off in my van. Now I’ll be able to play with my Maschine and Logic when the dog and I are parked up somewhere in the middle of the Welsh valleys. Such a sick solution.
Two questions: 1) Does XO2 itself require battery / charging if it is being connected to the AUX out (via 3.5 mm jack) of an audio interface? 2) Can the speakers both remain plugged into the electric wall socket in case they are being used more traditionally (on a desk rather than outdoors) so they would never run out of battery, or would that ruin them (if they're plugged into the wall 24/7)? Thanks! :) Love your products - very satisfied user of your TMA-2 Wireless+ headphones who can no longer tolerate being tethered to cables!
1) Yes - X02 consumes 5V/0.5A so can be powered from a small power bank or phone charger or laptop. 2) No problem keeping them connected - they would charge to 100%, then stop charging and run purely from the chargers. No problems in the long term!
@@TomFletcher-AIAIAI - I don't see any images of the X02 that show the details of its connectivity. So it has two connectors, one for 3.5 mm which will transmit audio (but not charge), and a separate USB-C port for charging (that can also work to transmit data when connected to a laptop)? Please link to me to some photos of the X02 so I can see how it works exactly because I remain confused by your answer and all the AIAIAI promo material. Thanks!
@@rombsix Yes exactly, the USB-C port is also used for digital audio from your laptop, tablet or phone. I'm unable to drop links here unfortunately but there are some great UNIT-4 quick start guides on the AIAIAI website.
Would be nice if they could be charged via USB. Even if I like the concept of wireless speakers the charger is a con for me. Is there a possibility for a adapter from a USB C Cabel/Charger to the power input you have build into the speakers?
@@TomFletcher-AIAIAIAh okay I understand. Thanks for clarifying. But is it maybe possible to charge the battery with an adapter/converter to USB C when the speakers are off so? Would be cool in the future when new USB C standards have arrived with higher charging capabilities to always use them with USB C Charger even while in use.
Regarding the X02 transmitter, connecting to AUX on audio interface = connecting to the interface's headphone output (with appropriate 1/8" to 1/4" adapter if necessary)?
You can connect X02 to your interface’s headphones out or main out. We’d recommend using the main out for UNIT-4, using a Y-splitter cable from 1/8” to 2x 1/4” or XLR depending on your interface.
Kind regards from Germany Very nice monitor speaker I would like to ask when would it come onto the market in Germany because I would be very interested in that too?
Yes they will work with your iPad. UNIT-4 uses our own W+ Link technology to achieve a stable, ultra-low latency of just 16ms. Feel free to read more about this here: aiaiai.audio/stories/products/unit-4-deep-dive-wireless-and-portability
Thanks for the quick response Tom, that's good news. Will will there also be headphones without soft coating in future by any chance?@@TomFletcher-AIAIAI
@@SONWU In July 2019, we refined the TMA-2 coating process for superior finish quality. Utilizing ASTM G154 lab testing on all coated parts of the TMA-2 Modular System, we've ensured the quality and reliability of the coating. Again, thanks for the detailed answer. I am asking, because all of these rubber coatings (not just from your brand) that I've tested so far break down over time (especially in hot & humid climates). So I am wondering why manufacturers keep using them.@@TomFletcher-AIAIAI PS: if you want to send a pair of headphones over for long-term testing on my channel, I would be happy to be proven wrong :)
@@davidpope5457 You can, but you’d need an extra transmitter. So if you have H10 and X01 already you can use X01 to monitor and X02 to send to the speakers.
X01 has been optimised for headphones and only works with H10, however X02 works with both UNIT-4 and H10. Your H10 will need a firmware update to be compatible with X02 - this feature will be released on the H10 app very soon.

Bravo! Super cool concept. Really interested to get my hands on it.
for the aspect of the woofer it is a SB Acoustics, very good quality in theory. Lets hear the execution.

Is the transmitting dongle also battery powered or does it need to be plugged in to work?
Is the X02 USB class compliant as an audio interface, or do I need extra drivers to send audio to it through the usb connection?
is the transmitter chargeable? i just got the speaker now im wondering the lifetime of the transmitter

UNIT-4 uses a DC jack power supply to deliver the power needed for 40Hz bass extension and 105dB max SPL. USB-C doesn’t support this power level.
