In this video, I take an in-depth look at AIAIAI Unit-4 wireless studio monitors. These are the world’s first wireless studio monitors. So...no wires at all...no audio cables, no power cables. There are lots of Bluetooth speakers out there, but you won't find them in music studios because bluetooth causes latency or an audible delay that makes mixing, and playing difficult. And that's what AIAIAI says they've solved with the Unit-4s. So let's give them a try, and I'll let you know who these may be right for.

So the Zero Input delay only works with the dongle connected..
You have enough subscribers to make a difference you should do a video about Balanced vs Unbalanced (Sudo Balanced) Instrument vs Speaker (Interconnect) - Ive been doing this for years and I still run into issues where Im looking something up, I ve wasted the equivalent of days researching the best/correct cables to buy not to mention wasted tons of money before buying the wrong cables and I wouldnt doubt Im not alone and others I have spoke to have purchased expensive power strips/racks, hum eliminators or using DI boxes when not needed. I noticed y6ou plugged an instrument cable into the Balanced input and as a fellow owner of the Osmose I would love a simple explanation of what a SUDO Balanced cable is, is that an instrument cable the just calls itself balanced? The reason I throw this out to you is because you seem to take the time to research correctly and your videos are not excessive. It would be nice to have the ultimate video to send people to on this subject.
Wow the difference between Bluetooth and these speakers is insane!
I could notice a very small difference with the AIAIAI but honestly… that’s more than acceptable imo.
The only real reason I’ve noticed is from practice in editing drum recordings and working with drummers, they’re very precise so I’ve learned to pick up any small differences.
I’d say the latency doesn’t matter for 90% of people. Especially beginners. ❤
Oh nice...so you've got a keen eye in hearing and seeing that latency!
Yes, and years of playing piano has definitely helped my timing. I never really values preicse timings until working with live drummers and now i can spend an hour syncing all the tracks for a 15ms delay, never having to touch it again. A useful skill. These monitors really arent a problem in my eyes :D
@@SanjayC
It does not make any sense. How many people are traveling and mixing on a full size studio speaker? Headphones are always much convenient and doesn't need charging. If it is a studio monitor it will certainly sit on a desk and it doesn't matter if a couple of extra power cables are attached to it. You need to charge them via cables in any case. Also, for connecting it to audio interfaces like Scarlette you'll have to use the cables as well. I think it's a lost cause or may be focused at a very niche group. Can certainly work as a better Bluetooth speaker, but the $800 price tag again comes in the way.
bro is just a wire lover
Great video and enjoyed the demo! I laughed along with you. It was fun.
I would use this for practicing my live set. Apso working on the move would be so much fun
Would these be good to have small DJ shows in a apartment setting?
Hi Sanjay, Dharti!
Hope you are well!!
Wow, those monitors are definitely a nice concept and definitely useful on a cluttered desk with tons of cabling.... oh wait, that's my desk! 😂
But the price is high, I'd rather get some good 5" monitors instead.
That said, I do have an AI AI AI headset on my wishlist, maybe one day!!
Have a great week!
Heyyy Fernando!!! How are you?! LOL. Do you need me to come over and organize your work space?! 😂 I’m sure you’re fine! And yes! Great item to get one day!
Too much gear, too little space!!! The only way to sort this out is to sell 3/4 of my gear, or win the lottery, and buy a big house 😊
@@FernandoDCDuarte😂😅 ok! Compromise- sell the stuff you don’t need and makes space for the things you do.
I just ordered some 😊 so hyped to take them with me the next time my friends and I jam out.
Thanks for the video. Skaa headphones & speakers have very similar technology. I use them while Djing.
you haven’t tested it with external gear running through the daw, Im guessing that would became a problem with latency. Then maybe it would be cool if the had a compressed mode where you loose some quality but gain on latency response if you want to track an external gear and then bring it back to lossless mode when you’re in the box only
The latency from external audio signal INTO your computer will add its own latency, but will not affect the latency from the computer to these studio monitors. So adding a compressed mode to these speakers won't change that since its on the other end of the audio signal.
@@SanjayC but it will reduce the total latency since you’ll be adding one to the other, if we can reduce latency on any of the sides of that chain then it helps, just 15ms from these monitors will already impact a guitar playing
This is a great innovation! I have a question though. How does one use this along with an audio interface?
You can connect to your audio interface via the X02 transmitter
@@TomFletcher-AIAIAI how would that work? Audio out from interfaces are balanced 1/4 inch. From the specs & San jays video the transmitter is USB-C….
@@orlyangeloandthesoundcrate you can also run directly into the monitors from interface with balanced speaker cables
XLR cables
Wired will always be better than wireless in terms of latency. You could have tested the wired features and compared it to wireless. That would give us a clear idea of how far wireless technology has progressed.
love you guys
🥳🤯 Khari!!!!! Hiii what an honor! Thanks so much for watching! ♥️💕 you too!
As someone who produces in a studio with heaps of gear but also goes on road trips doing van life, these perfectly fit that niche. Even to have a single one as a reference monitor with that kind of battery life on a road trip is incredible.
I didn’t gel with the aiaiai headphones because of the really horrible digital distortion that would come in when you turned them up “too loud”, kinda hard to push that line when you’re DJing and changing gain on tracks constantly and then getting hit with the most horrid ear splitting sound because you went a little loud.
Curious if this 2.4ghz system has a similar problem with loudness limits?
Amazing to hear! You won't experience the distorted sound when using X02, and UNIT-4 has a maximum sound pressure level of 105dBSPL - they go loud!
There site has a carrying case for 70 bucks, also isolation pads witch are out of stock. I wouldn't buy these just for wireless. especially at that price. Maybe if they was 8 inch.
Very Niceeeeeeeeee... Eventually They Will Be Bought.😏
beautiful speakers! price is tough though, hopefully they have good sales
i use their TMA-2 wireless headphone monitors, and for that, it’s great. however, i really kinda struggle with the concept of putting the same tech into a pair of studio monitors. what gives me the most ick is the fact that it’s plugged in directly to the computer instead of an audio interface. idk, just not sure if the tech is there yet. definitely interested to see how it progresses over time.
You can connect the X02 transmitter to your audio interface’s headphones out or main out. We’d recommend using the main out for UNIT-4, using a Y-splitter cable from 1/8” to 2x 1/4” or XLR depending on your interface.
Did you try it with a standalone unit. MPC or Maschine+. If so how’d you like it with them?
"I been around the world and AI AI AI..."
I'll be honest, I'd rather spend some of that $800 on really great reference headphones unless I needed other people to hear what I'm doing? Then I'd get a MOTU M4 with two headphone ports. No carrying case is sad, you're right about that.
I don't really see me wanting them. For travelling, I use the iLoud MTMs (which cost about the same and sound amazing) and a pair of good headphones. I don't really mind the cables... Maybe if they were less expensive, it would be cool to have them in the garden or something... :)
interesting but i'll wait until more companies develop the technology and bring down the price.
I know it’s 2024 but if I were to actually upgrade anything to wireless, it would be my actual stereo receiver or something along those lines. Don’t waste money thinking that the speakers you currently have are bad
I don’t get out of my house much 😂
Will this work with UAD Twin?
Yes! You can either use the low latency wireless transmitter, connected using a 2x jack to mini-jack splitter cable; or connect directly to UNIT-4 using a cable
Sorry but way too expensive. For that money I'd rather have a pair of Genelec 8010s and a nice set of headphones for cross referencing. Also, how many people are going to lose those dongles!
The PRICE! I’ll plug in.
Nice so now even my Speaker can run out of Juice ;P
I'm guessing they are using 2.4ghz technology 😊
Keebler Port
I'm not sure I'd use them much in a studio environment, but I'm really spoiled by headphones and use those pretty much exclusively even for just listening any more. I'd love to not have a cable jungle, but I don't feel like we're quite there yet for studio application. YMMV, of course. Full disclosure: I am a curmudgeon, so really make change work for its supper. 😂
The price tho ...
$800??? Gotta be kidding me. In a world full of great wired headphones out there for quickly producing on-the-go, just can’t see the use for this thing. And it looks cheap, uninspyring. My honest ✌️ cents.
In the words of the great Flossy Carter TGDH
they look good , but not £700 good
Ummm $800.00? That’s a pair of HS8’s. Just not worth it.
No wires. ? But they must be plugged in for a/c? Get a damn good headphone, people .
800$ no
ay ay ay ....... 16 ms i can hear as a drummer sorry ... higher than 3 ms I can hear ... it's my disorder now
AIAIAI could make a fortune just releasing a battery powered transmitter/receiver combo for 3.5mm audio based on this wireless low-latency protocol. I'd definitely buy a bunch for my present portable speakers and headphones (including my two pairs of AIAIAI headphones which I really like traveling with).
facts!
I thought the same thing but there must be so much more going on in their headphones and speakers
CME is developing such a device. they are planning to release it this year
You Can buy Røde transmitter, with even lower latency 4 ms
@@enricohar2686which one?
Such an awesome pair of monitors and love the video!!! Also 😅😅😅 No body judge my awesome skillzzzz please! After more practice I can get better! 🔊🥳🎶
You did really well for a first timer!
@@SanjayCThank you sir!!! 😁😬🥳
Pro : Sealed Cabinet , Compact , Minimalistic , 4" is good for mixing the midrange , can be used wired
Cons : Price is Crazy for 4 inch monitors by a headphone company
Notification squad 💚
Heyyy Shiv!!! 🥳🥳🥳
The Squad leader is here!
@@Only1Dharti Hey Dharti 👋
@@SanjayC 💚💚
If AIAIAI can create just the adapter part so any speakers can be used with this....game changer (we'd still need to power up the speakers, but no direct wired connection to the computer).
Buy the røde transmitter with even lower latency at 4 ms
I think what would make these better, would be wireless charging stands. So basically no wires at all. That would be really cool.
just work around it. no matter what someone makes someone is like "what would make it better".
You said charging, he said carrying case, someone else would say if they came in gray...
Would not be my main set, but as a backup set of monitors i could take to the living room or just another spot to produce with, they seem really effective. And there really aren't a lot of competitors in this space - Other than the KRK GoAux 3 and 4 monitors and the iLoud Micros, manufacturers don't really cater to people that wanna produce somewhere other than their studio. Obviously small monitors exist, like the M-Audio BX3 or the Sterling MX3 (I personally have used Fostex PM0.1's in the past and currently use a fairly tight set of JBL 104's now) but they're not really meant to be MOVED. This is really exciting.
Mid week Sanjay content? Yes please! ❤
Yes! Let's make some mid-week music!! Get in the studio!
Working on 4 new songs and ive just released one on Friday which is performing nicely so far. Lots of music soon!
@@SanjayC
Wow!!! That’s so awesome! 🥳 congrats on your release!
@@Only1Dharti thank you!!
Playing music for sure.... on the go
I could use these. I love all the use options available.
What do you think you'd use them most for?
Whoa. Wireless!!!!!
This + push 3 standalone…. The portable dream
Headphones (and also speakers for music listening) with the same wireless protocal will be very interesting. These monitors may be not for the majority but it's good to see this kind of innovation.
The AIAIAI Wireless+ headphones are amazing. I use them to track guitars all the time. It's great for myself and a client to be able to walk around the studio and while still hearing what we are working on.
playing music for sure, the idea of taking this out to a park with some friends and jamming out sounds so fun
Can you use the new dongle with the headphones? I already own the headphones and the size/wireless fits well in my small home studio
Yes, X02 is compatible with H10, once your H10 has had a firmware upgrade through the app. Stay tuned to our newsletter to find out when the app functionality will be available (soon!)
I think it's a great milestone, but honestly, I don't see big usability because they are rechargeable. I mean, in most places you are going to use a laptop through speakers there is a power socket. Monitors are usually used for studio jobs. But the direction where we are going now is fantastic.
I love to see this kind of innovation from music companies too!
Ouch that price
Yeah, not for everyone. Hope they make a more affordable version too!

Cool ❤

@@Only1Dharti hi 👋
The Wireless+ headphones are amazing, I will happily track guitar using them in wireless mode. If these have similar latency then they should be very usable.
Sooo, what’s the name of the nice song and artist playing at 8:05?
That's me...I recorded a cover of "I Feel it Coming" by The Weeknd.
@@SanjayC Wow, your version sounds better than the original! I hope you release it. I’d love to rock out to it! Thank you sincerely for replying and for your honest and unbiased reviews of gear, regardless of whether they’re sent to you in hopes of promoting their gear.

Thanks for a GREAT review! And I like your thoughts on them!
Years ago I would record bands in their practice spaces. I recorded maybe 20 or 30 bands like this. A wireless monitor setup would have made for a much quicker setup and breakdown time.
Worth noting. Recording this way, I didn't need perfect monitoring. I just needed to hear what we were doing. So leaving my monitors at home and taking something like this would be a no-brainer.
That's an interesting use-case. Thanks for sharing!
i love them. whats the price range?
Check the video...I discuss the price and value at the end

Modern looking speakers. Dharti on the drums 🥁
🙏🏽🫶🏽 Hi Acee!!!! Thank you soo much!!! Yess! Modern and lol yes I was there. 🤦🏽♀️
@1:42 "this is tiny, doesn't this remind you of...."
That's A Dongle they're still using Bluetooth, probably the newer protocols..
Calling it wireless/new technology is choice wording..
Mackie probably looking at em like yeaaaah nice try buddy 😂 😂
It's our own wireless technology called W+ Link - it operates over 2.4GHz like Bluetooth, but unlike Bluetooth is optimised for sending only audio - with 16ms constant latency, and uncompressed 44.1kHz 16 bit audio.
Honestly this is game changing for me!! Does having a high fidelity DAC matter at all now or....does this mean it's just data being spit out via the transmitter? That would be wild to just need to roll around with a small A/D and the speakers...
X02 transmits audio with 44.1kHz 16 bit quality (CD quality) and has an analog-digital converter built in, if you use the mini-jack input.
@@watchAIAIAI so I can roam wrong with these and a input for recording on the way in and I’m all set?! This works with all iOS devices? USB C adapter/hubs?
@@GlitchComputer Yes! If you're using iPad, you'll need a USB hub to connect the X02 transmitter and your audio input device at the same time. X02 is compatible with all iPads with a USB-C socket.
I bought the KRK Go4 set. I made a mobile studio with a miniPC, battery powered portable display, EVO8, folding keyboard & mouse but also touch screen. Everything fits in a backpack and I'll be taking a portable solar rig with me. I am gonna record my album in beautiful spots in nature. I bought a Traps drum set too... can't recommend them though. I can't return it so I am gonna need to modify it. Plastic nightmare.
They sound heavy which is good because it looks like cheap plastic
What about recording vocals?
I wonder how these stack up against the iLoud MTMs which I currently own. I like the aesthetic and portability of the UNIT-4s. Anybody with some first hand experience?
hi, why you don't treat your room? I always had that question.😁
Wireless audio monitors, finally!
No need to carry cables - win!
Still have to carry a proprietary charger instead of using what every other modern piece of electronics charges from - a HUGE fail.
this was a cool segment had me laughing with you tried to make a beat using bluetooth.. dont know if i would ever use em. wonder how they would work with a complete wireless rig wireless controller and wire less drum controller... ??
😂😂 That Bluetooth test was trippy!!!!
@@Only1Dharti hello Dharti it's always nice to see you guys. Like you finger drumming yes latency can be weird to sync to.. darn need impossible have me laughing .think I would like to see you producing a best. Bet you can do it.. have a great day. Look forward to seeing you & Sanjay at a trade show one day. Keep up the great work. Totally love the show.. tell San Jay studio one has went Atmos. Who would of thought.. have a beautiful day.. thanks for the reply back .
Most surely making music with.
They are not going to be any good for mixing professionally.
You need a full monitoring environment for mixing and then the speakers need to be top notch, otherwise your not going to get a good sound.
Something that might be good in trusting a production and what you are hearing is being able to set them up outside where there are no walls to need acoustics.
The sound then should be good enough to trust your production.
They will be fun more than anything... but also, you can wire things right into it for zero latency.
They are more for travelling and meeting up with musician friends and having a jam.
Finalising production and mixing etc should be left to a better setup.
Crazy expensive at $399, EACH Good thing I'm just looking at using a single:-)
Hopefully they're not as bad as their TMA2 headphones.
Whenever i want to use my Bluetooth speaker for home music creation i just plug in the aux cable that fixes the latency problems for me😂 not really worth the 800 from me right now but ill definitely add these to my wishlist
It’s definitely great option but when lll work on 48hz .. it won’t work on movie mix or hevay sessions
Love your demo videos!!!
Warp-zone time-zone.
With 800 dollars I will go for Adam Audio and some cables, and then you will have a proper sound
I can hear the delay... maybe its the user but either way it would be annoying to me and defiantly not for DJing
Would this work with a projector?
I'm deciding between unit 4 and i iloud mtm. Which one should I choose?
Not true Minirigs have been providing this for years
Is these monitor available in India
How can I use my uad Apollo twin duo
Turcotte Keys
She is gorgeous
Definitely in addition to Mpc Live 2 or mobile recording for playback
Wait so what kind of wireless technology is this / called ?
Thanks. Ps, max RMS SPL / noise to signal ratio / more specs would be quite useful:-)
Hi, it's our own ultra-low latency wireless technology called W+ Link
Are these speakers compatible with Maschine+ in standalone mode via the transmitter?
Yes, either use the phones out (mini-jack cable) or line out (2x jack to mini-jack Y-cable) on Maschine+ to connect to X02. Then power X02 using a small power bank.
Can you use these to record say guitar or vocals through an interface? How would you connect them to the interface?
You can connect the X02 transmitter to your interface’s headphones out or main out. We’d recommend using the main out for UNIT-4, using a Y-splitter cable from 1/8” to 2x 1/4” or XLR depending on your interface.
I would like to know, how many of those can be connected at the same time to a computer and if they would appear as an Output in a DAW. >>>>>>>> Dolby Atmos!
These would work really well for an Atmos setup. You can connect multiple X02's and create a virtual device using Audio MIDI Setup (native app on MacOS) which you would then choose as your DAW output. We'll release a guide for doing this in Mac and Windows soon!
@@TomFletcher-AIAIAI Cool!!! I´ll certanly keep an eye on ht AIAIAI SM.
Using TotalMix ---which is RME's interfaces superb software, for the UFX III--- (do you think the system will be able to use them as Outputs from the "Software Playback" to the "Hardware OutPuts" (TotalMix is divided into 3 main I/Os which are: Hardware Inputs, Software Playback and Hardware Outputs)
I really want AIAIAI to actually make headphones with an amazing frequency response. I love the headphones for comfort it’s my go to travel headphones but not in the studio unfortunately.
Would one transmitter transmit to both the headphones and the speakers, or do we need two transmitters to do that, Sanjay? Thanks for another in-depth video!!
Hi, the X02 can transmit to 2 Wireless+ devices at the same time: 2x UNIT-4, or 2x H10, or 1x H10 + 1x UNIT-4.
will these work with a audio inteface if you play guitar
I guess that you would have to bring cables into the game then.
Fantastic videos, and I wanted to ask for your advice. I have a 13X13 room and will be using a Universal Audio Volt 276 for playing Bass Guitar and keyboards to write and produce music. I am confused on how big of a studio monitor (KRK Gen 4 is what I am looking at), what OHM for headphones (DT 700 Pro X is what I am looking at), and what free DAW software is best to set up a studio in my house. Any suggestions?
so it works without audio interface?
That's correct, you can connect directly to UNIT-4 via the X02 transmitter
Funny, informative, great job! And, BTW, I love "Undone", I think it's "very well done".
Hehe, i was actually thinking of taking my Yamaha HS5 to trips via plane.
So these speakers are interesting. But all in all, for 800€ way too expensive, and i guess it does not sound "better" then HS5, especially no wonders in bass can be expected.
Even if they did a great job with the wireless connection / latency .. a cable is a cable.
