    The end of Sycamore has always gotten me. Always makes me a bit emotional for some reason. The first time I saw them live with the ending, I about crapped my pants. The feeling has grown ever with time. This one got me the most.

      It is. I went to my first post rock show in 2007. It was MONO and they were playing with some bands that were kinda random trash metal bands. When MONO came on stage and played Halcyon (Beautiful Days) and Yearning I was caught in a storm I can’t describe. When I listen to bands like MONO, TDWY, Caspian, and some others like Yasushi Yoshida my heart feels like it swells up and then it feels light!

      I bet you did not cry for no reason - I got the feeling, that music can lead us to the transcendental core of beauty. And this music, the way it builds up to the ending - that's touching transcendence in these terms! One can not resist such a thing - these were the tears of happiness.

    Whenever someone tells me "there's no good music anymore", I always refer them to some sort of post-rock or post-metal group. Looks like I have yet ANOTHER amazing group to add to that list. Really, post-rock/post-metal really restored my hope that new, good music is still being created, it's just not in the spotlight like it used to be. This had to have been one of the most beautifully awesome performances I've ever seen.

    • @SoulWalrus
      @SoulWalrus 4 роки тому +2

      Anyone who's says music is dead, simply stopped listening! They basically didn't grow musically after their formative years and have decided to shout that out as if its someones else fault. I've Literally got so much music to listen to and catch up on all the time it dumbfounds me whenever anyone makes that statement!

    • @jakobfel2
      @jakobfel2 4 роки тому +2

    I gotta tell a story about this song. I had just packed up my entire life and moved to Colorado. I was in a weird place. I missed home and the future was extremely uncertain. My girlfriend wanted to go buy some edibles, take the dogs to the dog park, and then drive to Boulder. We did just that. We both ate a 10mg edible gummy before the park and I felt completely normal while out with the dogs. We loaded them up and began driving to Boulder and suddenly...it hit us. We had the windows down and this song was blasting as we drove west on 36 towards Boulder. There is a part of this drive where you just begin to ascend up this huge long hill and I swear it was like this song was made for this exact section of the drive. It was timed so perfectly. As we began to ascend the song began to build, and at the very top of the hill the song reached it's crescendo (10:52) and we were greeted with one of the most beautiful views of the mountains. As people that were not used to just seeing huge mountains all the time, it was an out of body experience. Throughout the entire song neither of us said a word. We just stared forward and were completely caught up in the moment. As the song ended and we were closer to town we kinda snapped out of it and just looked at each other with huge eyes. Like, "whoa, what just happened!?" Then...I told her I couldn't feel my foot on the brakes and I started freaking out a bit haha. I now relive that moment anytime I make that drive and it always gives me chills. The End

    Maybe I'm a tool. But I'm new to hearing your material, but I find myself waiting, anticipating with a burning desire to hear a voice cry out from the beautiful chaos. I feel like there should be a singer. I'm sure there's no interest in implementing one this far along in your career. But I truly hear a voice where there isn't one.

      +When I am King Actually take a look at their newer stuff. There are some vague vocals on Gone in Bloom and Bough, some more distinct ones on Echo and Abyss, and some definitive ones on Run Dry. I don't think it will ever be their mainstay but I think they do find it interesting to do every now and then.

      +When I am King You aren't a tool. But I will say that a lot of people find enjoyment in the lack of distinct vocals, because it lets you fill in your own meaning. Or you could drop definite meanings altogether and just be in a place of pure emotion.

      Lol honestly, instrumental post-rock is typically meant to make the listener sit back and think, contemplate life, imagine and dream, etc. It's instrumental so you can generally come up with any interpretation. For me, this song reminds me of the sadness of a close relative of mine that passed away, followed up with the hope that I know she's free of pain and aging in heaven now, joyfully celebrating eternity.
      But for others, it could have a completely different meaning. That's the beauty of post-rock.
