Better to lose your volleyball than lose your marbles. I always keep 3 in my pocket, the rest in a jar.
In English, to lose your marbles is to lose your mind.
Incidentally, I gave my daughter 10 marbles of mine to add to her own.
No matter what, I'll never now lose all of them. She really liked the idea and now she thinks more of her own marbles.

Right there is where religion comes from. Giving meaning to unliving objects or phenomena, realising that to stay sane you have to treat them right as part of the family, then someone steps in and demands the sacrifices go to them, not the idol.

Watches have historically been given as gifts because, with the tiny, intricate inner workings, they were once things that only wealthy people could afford. Now you can get cheap watches, but you can also get very fine expensive watches, so its gifts giving appeal has endured. But fewer and fewer people carry watches because of smart phones, so the tradition may die out.

    • @toomanyaccounts
      @toomanyaccounts Рік тому

pocket watches since they have space were often used for photo or other keep sake. smart phones can lose power, fall out while a wrist watch is less likely to be lost plus easier to glance at. plus divers use certain type of watch for a very particular reason.

    1. It's a good thing he wasn't strapped in that plane. He would have died.
    2. Can you imagine how much back pay this guy is going to get? He's not a rank and file worker either. He's an executive.
    3. To make himself look like an average out of shape middle aged man Tom Hanks didn't exercise and allowed himself to grow pudgy. Production was then halted for a year so he could lose fifty pounds, work out and grow out his hair and beard for his time spent on the deserted island.
    4. Talk about using realistic tactics to survive.
    5. Wilson is exactly what he needed to maintain sanity.
    6. In a recent interview Hanks says that Chuck went back to Belinda "Wings". Inside the opening scene package were her divorce papers.
    7. When he's talking to his friend and says, "I had power over nothing...." is what gets to me.
8.Tom Hanks is the best actor of my lifetime. I'm 62 years old.
FWIW, dit dit dit, dah dah dah, dit dit dit = SOS

The package he kept has a story.
The man in Moscow was Bettina's husband, with another woman.
The package was from someone to Bettina, Hanks kept that package all the way for years to deliver it.
When he went to the farm at the end, the name of Bettina's husband had been removed from the sign.
The Angel Wings symbol on farm gate, Hanks' package and Bettina's truck ties things together.
Whether Hanks goes to meet the woman Bettina is another mystery.
Or did he go away with the new Wilson basketball?
Did he choose the past or the future?
