    Most pleased to see that you managed to end things with a great book. I haven't read any of the books that you got to, although I've been meaning to read Banana Yoshimoto for years. When ever I watch one of these videos, I always feel inspired to give myself a day just to get through some books. ☕☕☕

    I am curious about Banana Yoshimoto because I have been hearing such good things about some of her writing and short novels. I think the love story elements between teacher / student and related people makes that not a place for me to start 😅 the idea of reading your shortest books throughout a day is really good though and I need to do something like this as well, and kick a few off of my TBR that way! I'm glad you had a winner there at the end of the evening!

    I am excited to read Fathers and Sons, it was on my tbr for this month.
    I had many great plans but I have only read one of my physical tbr and the rest have been library books but several of them are books that I've been putting off.
    The Heroines sounds like it has a lot of similar themes to Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes, or Ariadne by Jennifer Saint. Stone Blind is by far my favourite but Ariadne looks at the minotaur myth and Theseus as well.
    Always love your videos 🫖

    Lots of historical fiction was written by Borges. This is not for everyone. It is difficult but very rewarding.

      I've read some of Borges's short stories and found them very interesting, but I did struggle with his style a bit!

    It's interesting to see how other people read! I never thought of the bookmark to follow where I am on the page!
    I am participating in the TBR clearout Readathon, just not posting on social media! But so far I am not doing super well, I've only read 2 books : Chess Story by Stefan Zweig (in French) for the short book prompt and Les prisonniers de la liberté by Luca di Fulvio (not translated in English, but it's originally in Italian) for the long book prompt (around 800 pages!). I also started a book for the prompt Book you've lost interest in and sadly DNFd it after about 20 pages... I really did loose interest 🤣At least it's one less book on the TBR

    • @katiejlumsden
      @katiejlumsden  5 місяців тому

      I always use a bookmark to follow where I am on the page - I've done that for as long as I can remember. I think it's partly because I have astigmatism, which means my eyes struggle to focus on things, and especially before I got glasses, I'd always find that lines on a page blurred together. I really like Chess Story - hope you enjoyed it, and Les prisonniers de la liberté sounds interesting, if long!

    I have added The Heroines by Laura Shepperson, as I have recently read Ariadne by Jennifer Saint. So this will be an interesting look at the sister ( who does feature heavily in Ariadne, but Ariadne is Ariadne's story). And.. teapot! teapot! Annoyingly UA-cam won't always let me post emojis!

    I'm just now seeing this challenge which coincides nicely with starting my first Reading Log/Book Journal. I was very sad to see my library no longer keeps one for me....some sort of privacy thing. So all my reading for 2023 was physical books from the library and I have no record 😢 I didn't put very many up on Goodreads either. I was trying to have a disconnected reading experience for 2023. Which I did but I did want a record. So now I'm trying to get a feel for how I want my journal to look. And what data I want to record. 🍵 📚 ❤

    Here's my emoji 🫖😅 I love these reading vlogs. I was wondering, because of that book you didn't enjoy that much, how do you feel about DNFing if you're not enjoying the story or the writing style.

    • @katiejlumsden
      @katiejlumsden  5 місяців тому +1

      So, I occasionally DNF novels but not very often. I probably wouldn't DNF a short story collection, because every short might be different, if that makes sense? If I DNF a novel, I don't usually mention it, because if I've got far enough through to feel I have things to say about it, I usually do finish it, if that makes sense.

    I started the year with the goal of reading two books off my backlist each month. Four months in I’ve read one! Complete failure. As soon as book prize long lists come out; I get distracted by new books. Is there a few months that don’t have new releases?

    Very inspiring video! I'm participating in your TBR challenge. I've finished 3 and am reading 2 more - well 3, but one is very slow going, no idea when I'll complete it.
    I loved that you said one book was too literary for you. I used to feel it was a failing on my part to not like an obviously literary book. But I've decided to be at peace with the reader I am.

      @katiejlumsden  5 місяців тому

      I feel like one of the most common reasons for me not to gel with a book is when it's just a bit literary for me - themes or writing are just not what I'm looking for, you know? Everyone likes different books :)
