    "A few lines are missing"
    That happens if you disassembled the display. It isn't necessary to open the display.
    After unsoldering the two pins of the old foil just take a cardboard or a stripe of harder plastic (a better idea is to take an old backlight foil). Put it under the old foil until you can pull out the old foil. Take the new foil and slide it carefully under the screen. Justify and solder it and make a test if it lights in the right place. It askews very often and needs to be fitted once or twice.

    Yep my backlight is out. also be good to replace the two power supply filter caps because they go bad and leak. also, on mine the transformer whines. Indra says something about put glue or epoxy inside the transformer to fix the loose windings due to dried out core. Otherwise, my 01w/proX is in good shape and works.

    Hi, i commend you for taking the trouble to make and upload this video. I have 2 01/W's. I've serviced my keyboards many times thru the years, so i've developed my own techniques and routines to service the board. First i would never put the board flat on it's back like that, i always put books or similar on the 4 corners on the keyboard, in a way that doesn't touch anything (keys, buttons or joystick) just to provide enough support so suspend the keyboard.

  • @timpletcher1706

    Thanks for the video. I just ordered the backlight and I'll forge ahead. One other question would you have any idea why only the B flat keys on the right hand side of the keyboard would stop working? Thanks again

    If you watch this: DON'T replace the backlight, but the whole screen. A new screen is like 25 bucks, not much more than a new backlight, and it comes with several benefits:
    - Now you can get FSTN instead of STN screens, for better contrast and viewing angles
    - Now they can be white on black or black on white.
    - You can disconnect the power circuit for the backlight, which has a nasty high pitch whine
    - Procedure is much easier: no disassembly of the panel itself required.

  • @PATA571
    @PATA571 11 років тому +2

    You needn't to open the hole display. You can unsolder the foil and slip them aside out of the display. If you do so you don't miss any lines at the display.
    I changed several displays of Korg T3, Yamaha SY77 and a Korg 01W. It isn't necessary to open the display housing.

  • @backlightsnew
    @backlightsnew 6 років тому +1

    If your backlight is thin enough, you can slide it over the old backlight. You just have to desolder and clip the old leads and add some insulation to the clipped lead part of the old backlight. Sometimes the original backlight it double sided taped to the lcd board and is very difficult to remove. Sliding in the new backlight over the old one is much easier and safer. You can also get whole led lcd upgrades with ribbon cable preattached. The display will be bright and high contrast and will last for a long time.

    Hi PATA571
    I have a T1 and a 01 W Pro X. I changed the battery on the Pro X. Turned it on, and all was fine. Shut it down and turned it on again, and then a capacitor blowed of in the floppy disk.I bought a new floppy disk, and installed it in the Pro X. When I push the "disk " button, it says: "Drive not ready". Then I took the floppy from the T1. Then it says : " Data error".
    When I format the disk ( with the floppy from T1 installed ), and now only this disk it can read.

    The 01/w pro x seems quite different to disassemble than any other..and tricky! I got a slight baptism looking at and following a YT vid addressing how to replace the cr 2032 batt. Heavy, awkward, you have to face it down on 2x4's..or books, and get the bottom plate off (later, in writing this, it occurred to me you dont take the plate off, just 4 or five screws that release lifting the top up). My floppy doesn't work. Can I get any help with how to get at it and diagnose the problem>? Also, how to fix the 2 bottom white keys that are dead. Thanks, crisinbigbear(california) PS: It would be so much easier if the top covver just lifted up, instead ofg having to deal with screrws underneath, and, oh yeh! it just came back to me that it is only 4 screws holding the bottom plate there IN THE MIDDLE that have to be removed..taking out others only creates more prob's!

    • @patpatpat999
      @patpatpat999  4 роки тому

      yes, the ProX is a beast. I personnally know anything about it. I would expect (IMO) you can find a DD floppy drive replacement, maybe even a HD floppy drive. I may have seen some forums on the subject somewhere. I saw a replacement drive on Reverb.com for $40USD, . This site indra.com/~cliffcan/01fddfix.htm has a lot of info you may need.

    Hi patpatpat999, and thanks for the answer. Unfortunately it did not help to adjust these parameters. Under the keys is a kind of a touch-sensitive switch, and I have to press very hard to activate it. I was hoping that there was a possibility to adjust the pressure sensitivity.
    May be the only option to replace the switch....?

    Baskerwille: I have no idea want went wrong on your floppy drive. Floppy Disks: They are DD (720kB), not the common HD floppy that we all had before they went extinct. Also they must be formatted in the KORG format, not windows. See the link in the video at 1:20 they have lots of info on this.

    Thanx for posting this because I realise I probably need someone else to restore my display. It went dimmer and dimmer but I found I could still read it ok, close up, but then last week it hot very flickery and now just shows completely blank apart from the right side third being just black. I don't know if it's just the display or the workings. I bought it new in 1993 and my written sequenced tracks sound great but without a display obviously I can't load them. The single & combi sounds are there but I can only scroll up one at a time from the default first one and anyway I only use the sequencer facility to write backtrax. So.. I need someone to fix/repair it if possible please - I'm in Hampshire England. And thanks for reading.

    Re: Korg 01/Wfd power supply unit. I intend to replace the display backlight,I wondered if you discharged the capacitors in the PSU before starting the job? How long do the caps take to discharge any ideas?

    • @patpatpat999
      @patpatpat999  7 років тому +1

      No, I did not discharge the capacitors. And I don't recall how long my unit was off. Most power supplies should have some kind of high-value bleed off resistor that will eventually bleed off the voltage. On power supplies like this I don't worry about it. the worst thing is is I'm gonna get a little Shock and drop it on the floor. I have discharged 3000 V from some capacitors in a microwave radio power supply. That hurt.

Some have fixed this problem by unplugging the 2 ribbon connectors on the display and plugging them back in. Also clean the electrical contacts on the ribbon cables and the sockets they plug into with electronic contact cleaner . Jesse Martinez The original sounds it came with should still be there. Any new combos you created may be lost. My video for battery replacement on this unit should get you sounds back. If your battery is dead you will need to re-initialize the unit every time you turn it on or plug it in. Not sure which. If this is the problem, you need to replacement the CR2032 battery inside.

    Oh, and one last thing, never ever put anything on top of those key contacts, not cables, connectors, anything. Those spring leafs can get damaged easily. They are without doubt the most vulnerable and fragile part of the synth. As you also shouldn't, in any case, do work on the keybed or replace keys with that board attached. In fact that board is the first thing you should disconnect and put aside when servicing, and the last thing to put back when assembling the synth.

    missing lines from the display at power are caused by a bad contact of elastomers of the display. It 'a problem solvable only if under the backlight are laid two strips of double-sided tape, and if you shut properly display the tabs of generating the correct pressure dul backlight
    In addition, it is extremely advisable to make a display test before reassembling all the tabs to take preventive action on the problem identified ..

    Second i would never touch the boards inside with my bare hands because of static electricity that can easily ruin a board or a chip. I always use latex gloves when i mess with the boards inside. Call me obsessive for doing this, but i've never had anything that did not worked when i assemble everything back. I just don't take risks with my boards when servicing. Of course it may take more time but it's safer in my opinion.
