    Piped on icing techniques. 25 year Commercial Cake Decorator and instructor provides step by step visual of cake decorating processes, tips , and tools as well as products. Liz teaches how to properly construct the cake for stability and delivery, sharing tried and true methods. These videos are a fun mix of Food, Technique and Artist Flare.
    Royal Icing
    3 eggs whites room temperature
    1 pound powdered sugar (confectioners)
    1 teaspoon cream of tartar
    Combine ingredients, beat at high speed 7-10 minutes.
    Dries quickly-keep covered.
    DECORATING BUTTERCREAM
    2 CUP SHORTENING (SWEETEX)
    1 CUP MILK (CANNED MILK IS GOOD)
    2 TSP VANILLA
    1 TSP. ALMOND EXTRACT
    ½ TSP.BUTTER FLAVORING
    3 LB. POWDERED SUGAR
    2 tsp. salt
    Mix together and beat 10 minutes until light and fluffy it
    will keep in refrigerator for about 2 wks. Is enough
    to ice and decorate an 8 or 9 inch double layer cake.
    You can cut the recipe in half if you don't need that much. In this video I am using Pastry Pride Whip Topping. It can be found at
    most restaurant supply stores and Cake decorating supply stores. Riches Buttercream is also a good option.

    Omg!!! got the perfect idea! :) a leaf cake. Basics: a bunch of fall colors of leaves ik its not fall but its a great idea!! :D there like all covoring the cake Colors: red mixed with orange and the basic colors of fall. Hope u do it Liz!! :D

    This cake is gorgeous. You do such beautiful work. How did you learn to put the pads down first ? No one ever teaches that and it looks to make such a difference allowing the beautiful flowers stand out. You and your daughter are wonderful

    This cake is sheer perfection!!!! What size is that and did you use a cross mold or a sheet cake and cut it out ? Im attempting this cake for Easter I bought an 11 by 2 sheet pan because I couldn't find a cross mold is that close to the size of what you have there? Sorry so many questions I'm a newbie but plenty enthusiastic 😘 thanks P.S. I absolutely love your channel I have learned so much from your teaching I'm truly appreciative of your time and zeal for baking !

      Aisha Gooden Hi Aisha, I'm so happy this is helpful for you. I used a 1/2 sheet pan and board. You could use a 1/4 sheet which it sounds like you bought. Just sketch out your shape on a piece of parchment so you are sure you have the shape you want before cutting. Please share a photo of your cake when it's done on FB at "the art of frosting"

    Ok idea: Two-Tone big rose. then many of them Big roses! then royal icing grass lighter green darker green. comes on the edge of the cake Two-Toned little roses and big!!! Hope u do it!!

    Liz I have many ideas :) heres on DoMo cake u might not know what that is look at pictures of it Its a cute idea. Other idea: rainbow cupcakes with mini mashmellows with that rainbow candy strip!!

      Natasha TsemaHi Natasha, I actually use Pastry Pride Whip Topping which is a non dairy commercial product. Another brand is Rich's Bettercream. They are very light and easy to work with.

    This cake is beautiful! What number tip did you use for the border? It would be nice to see a video of you demonstrating how to do this border.

      Hi , I used a #23 star tip. if you know how to do a straight shell, this is a straight shell done side to side to create the look of a braid. I will do a video soon to show some advanced borders. Thanks

    did you bake the cake in a cross shaped pan? or did you cut it yourself? if you did cut it yourself, how did you cut the cake? also, great video!

      Hi, I cut this cake out of a 1/2 sheet cake. I filled, iced then froze the cake for a couple of hours. Then I used a bench knife or table scraper type knife to get a very straight edge. Thanks

      Hi Howard, It's best to buy a true tasteless red paste gel. There are many brands wilton has one also American Color. If you want it to be deeper you can add a TINY bit of dark brown, this will be Maroon, or a Tiny Tiny bit of black. I usually strip pure c color up the side of my bag to get the strongest colors.

      Yes it is a straight shell done like a braid. It's just the straight shell done side to side.
