- We did it again! Some of you asked for a new video, so here we are to show off the newly recorded version of Turn Down Day! It's sort of our interpretation of what a turn down day might be. Goodness knows, we could use all the turn down days we can get this year. Check it out and let us know if you dig it!
---------------------------------------------------------
The new version of Turn Down Day heard in this video is now available on all streaming sites and wherever you purchase your digital downloads! It was recorded in March 2020 and released to the public on 11/02/2020.

What a wonderful song. It is always in my head. Very uplifting. Thank you Cyrkle for great music. I heard this when i was in 7th grade and now i am 70. It sounds just as fresh.
Wow, thanks!
Hang on now. I just listened to the original from 1966 back to back with this 2020 version. This one is arguably better. How the heck is that possible 54 YEARS LATER? I’ve been telling this story to anyone who will listen. Just incredible. Most guys your age doing reunion shows have audience members that are VERY forgiving due to nostalgia. Not here; you guys just killed it. So impressive.
One of the greatest songs of the 60s (1966 to be exact) and one of my personal favorites. Such a Happy and uplifting tune. I play it often and it never gets old. Thank you.
It's fun for us too!
Hey Mike. Did you guys ever make any videos back in the day?
Not really, just the TV appearances from Hollywood Palace, Hulabaloo, etc.
2023 still listening!
L❤VE iT!!!
Thank You! 🎶
Thanks! Check out our Facebook page for some NEW music about to become available
That was a wonderfully refreshing return to the past. I even remembered the words!! Love this!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I can never get enough of The Cyrkle! Thank you!!!
Neither can we! LOL
Awesome! That's the thing about 60s bands. What you heard on the record was what the band really sounded like. No gimmicks. Just real talent
Thanks!
It's a Turn-Down Day, "and I dig it." This is in my "unofficial Top Ten All Time Favorite RocknRoll songs." Makes you feel happy. Don't sweat the small stuff. Take things in stride. Even at work, I like to make it a "Turn-Down Day." Born in 1959: several songs come and go in my mind, and this one "stays" with me. Off to work, and other things will just have to wait till tomorrow. What a blessing.
Well said, we know exactly what you mean!
Thank you for showing that this song from the 1960's is as timeless as the optimism, fun, and playfulness of that era. This is wonderful. Nicely done!
We agree! It was a lot of fun to take this song that the band had done in 1966 and re-record it with modern tech, but still try to keep the "sound & feel" of our original recording. The music is fun and the lyric is relevant for anytime, then, today or tomorrow. Everyone enjoys a turn-down day!
With memories my friend was supposed to buy me this single record in exchange for the shampoo I bought for her birthday.
I ended up buying this record my own self in about 1967 instead. You never forget those kinds of things!😂❤
LOL that's great! After writing jingles for many years, I'm sure Don would say that shampoo and music go together. Not sure if he ever won a shampoo commercial, but he won a Coppertone commercial for a number of years. It's part of a cool story he tells in our show sometimes.
Hope you enjoyed that record!
Damn... I'm 14 again! Thanks for the memories, guys.
Oh to be THAT age again! Isn't it great how music can transport us to another time? Thanks for listening.
you guys kick ass! this is so nostalgic to me i was born in 55.
Thanks! Hopefully, we can get back on the road and kick some more. Meanwhile... stay tuned for something from us after the first of the year. ;-)
Amazing close my and I’m back in 60’s. No change in the voices. Great job
Thanks! We spent a lot of effort to have this sound so much like the original, but with today's sound quality. It was a lot of fun to record and a blast to film the video!
Thanks for another great video of one of your hit songs. I am getting older and loved this song when it first came out. It still brings back memories of staying at the New Jersey shore where every summer our family vacationed and enjoyed many turn down days.
That's a great memory, thanks for sharing it with us
Stumbled across this by accident -- what a welcome discovery! I dig it.
Glad you found us!
Wow, what a memory!! Thanks guys, this is wonderful.
Our pleasure!
I love The Cyrkle more now than ever. Glad they are still doing it!
Thanks, we're having a blast!
God bless you Cyrkle guys, past and present, for bringing me sunshine and happiness for more than 55 years! Dedicated to Tom Dawes.
It's our pleasure, thanks for listening and being a fan!
I've just heard this tune played on BBC 6 Music (Radcliffe and Maconie Show) here in the UK. It intrigued me so I took to UA-cam and Wikipedia. I'm so glad these guys are playing together now and hope they continue to do so as long as they like!
Thanks so much for the kind words! It's great to hear that the BBC is playing our music and that you found us here on UA-cam. Definitely going to check out the Radcliffe & Maconie Show...
Family was going to a family reunion in Eldon, Missouri, and this was playing constantly on the car radio (AM, of course). Always like it.
That's a neat memory, glad to be a part of it.
Fantastic. My LORD what a catchy, singable song! Just as fine as the original -- time hasn't taken away any of your talent and skill. Bravo!
Thank you so much!
I am a huge fan of this song! I love having a nice turn down day on the weekend, and starting my day off with this song! Love the chords! Love that you are still making music!
Thanks for the kind words, we love it too!
I wish more people appreciated this music. Awesome!
Thanks!
A great rendition of the song Don Danneman!! You still sound great!!
Don says thanks!
Got up at 5:AM and played this song. Just love you blokes.
While that's a little early for me, it's still a great song to start the day. I wish it was as warm here as is implied in the song...
So you dont want any of our Snow 😮
Dig it! Loved playing Red Rubber Ball & Turn Down Day when I worked in radio in the 70's.
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
You guys were on Hullabaloo back in mid-60's. My brother Johnny Holliday, was the announcer for the show.@@thecyrkleofficial5711
Awesome heard this song late in my life and just love it as much as red rubber ball which is my favorite. Love the ups and down of the music
Thanks so much, Happy New Year!
Another great song perfectly sung by The Cyrkle guys! They had a great sound that was much better than half the records being released at the time.
That's very kind of you to say. We work very hard on our vocals and are very proud of the results.
Guys, this is beautiful!!! I love this style. It's something the Go Go's did this last summer (2020) and I really like it. One of my prior co-workers was partners with Jane of the Go Go's, but I gotta tell you, I just love this style and the quality. If it's all we get going forward, its special, and "Red Rubber Ball" sans the Target car stop globe, lol and this ise FANTASTIC. Feel free to look me up, would love to talk. Kipster
Isn't it fun? Did you notice all the "cool" stuff Mike had spread out on the bed (hint: look for Betty Boop)? It was lots of fun to make. Imagine the looks we got while out filming these? We had someone actually drive up and try to turn around amongst my drums and cases... we could have made a movie out of how we tried to make this movie, um, wait... maybe someone's done that before... 🤦♂️
Wow. Just wow. Crisp, clean, gives the original a run for its money. Not easy to do after so many years, but you nailed it. Bravo!
Thanks! We really tried to capture the sound and feel of our original recording, but with modern quality and technology. Appreciate the comment!
Starting around 1990, the companies I worked for had periodic Dress Down Days. I would sing, "It's a Dress Down Day," as I got ready for work on those days. I've been retired since 2017, so almost every day is both a Dress Down and Turn Down Day now!
That's so cool, thanks for for sharing!
Still diggin it 06/01/2023
Awesome! So are we...
I certainly dig it. Turn Down Day was always my favorite Cyrkle tune. I really dig the alternate ending. Mr. Dannemann your voice sounds the same. Still that youthful sound that I love. ❤️ Great job on the keyboards. The Juno is a great synthesizer. You all did so well.
Thanks for the kind word and thanks for listening!
Love this song!! Looking great!!!!
Thanks so much and thanks for listening
We are so glad you found us again and we are grateful to be part of the music of your youth. Peace and happiness!
Good job. A lot of new remakes (even by the original artists) just aren't as good as the original(s). But, this is great.
Thanks, that means a lot. We purposely tried to maintain the original's "sound & feel".
I've been wanting to learn this song for such a long time, I think I'm going to today, it's definitely a turndown day here in Ga. it's raining and there's definitely nothing else better to do...and I dig it.
😁❤✌️
Do it! It's a really neat song to play. If you're up for it, record it and post it so we can all hear your version. We dig it too!
And I dig it!!!!
Laughing at playing tambourine in the sand lol
Yeah, unfortunately he was able to climb out afterwards. Guess we didn't bury him deep enough! ;-)
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 haha next time
I dunno what started this earworm for me. Sometimes it's a note from a TV jingle or a word someone says. This one's been in my ear for a week although it had been decades since I heard it. Nice job, guys! Really enjoyed this!
Thanks so much! I use "Turn Down Day" to get RRB out of my head sometimes...
Sounds better than the original! The bass playing really kicks on both versions too.
The bass players always like the cool bass line this has. Thanks for you comments!
Love it! We need more music like this!
Hekima! Hope you're doing great. We're making more music, stay tuned...
More bass shots...he kills those bass riffs.
Yeah he does, check out the bass pattern on Turn Down Day
And I dig it ❤❤❤😊
So do we! Thanks for listening
Love the music and the (chair cover) you're sitting on at the beach...I have the same one and have a new way to use it LOL! LOVE your music...my fave is RED RUBBER BALL!
Thanks so much!!
Julie: Since Red Rubber Ball is you favorite, you might enjoy seeing The Cyrkle's new video of their re-recorded song: ua-cam.com/video/0YFSUzQ6mds/v-deo.html
Timeless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We agree! The music is fun and the lyric is relevant for anytime, then, today or tomorrow. It's just a fun song!
i have always loved this song!
Thanks! Gotta love the groovy bass line in there
I was just singing this to myself yesterday! Ya'll sound so great, it's like no time has put at all😁
Thanks for the kind words, we tried to be very careful in updating the recording while retaining the feel of the original
Love this video! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I can’t believe I missed this! 😀 You guys are sounding better than ever!! Can’t wait to see you live as soon as possible!! 😎🌴
We can't wait either! It's been much too long already
Love it!
Thanks!!
Great song, great new version, great video!!!
Thanks! Both the audio and video were a lot of fun to put together.
I’m not a great guitar player , just a good one, I’m going hendrixfy this with a touch of rungren, wish me luck folks, I’m 66, lds, father of 5, husband to be, AND I DIG IT!
Awesome! Go for it 🍻
Simply fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
Outstanding!!!!!!!!
Thanks for listening
excellent song. Love it. Very uplifting.
Thanks!
My thoughts: I always thought the lead vocal sounded a bit like Gary Lewis. The bass line is great. The harmonies are great. And the keyboard is kind of a baroque thing that's very nice. This song was really wonderful.
Thanks for the kind words, it's a fun song all around. BTW - did you know Gary Lewis did a cover version of Turn Down Day? See here ua-cam.com/video/PjjdN8RUjIQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=hankgwe
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 Wow, nice of you to reply! I will watch that. I did like Gary Lewis & the Playboys....This Diamond Ring....By the way, I need to dig through my 45s that I still have, but I'm pretty sure I have a copy of Red Rubber Ball! It's really great that we can contact folks like yourself and tell them how much we enjoyed their work!
@@writerjmd Yes, it's cool that we can get a chance to interact! Count Me In is my personal favorite. We all love Gary and his band. We've been fortunate to do a couple of shows with them over the past few years and it's so great to hear him do all those songs! If you still have that 45 of RRB, bring it to one of our shows and we'll be glad to sign it for you.
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 I looked for it tonight and it was not where I thought it would be. So it is either in my elderly mother's attic or it was a false memory. In any case, thank you for that offer and we'll see if I ever get to attend one of your concerts!
@@writerjmd If you do make it to one of our shows, be sure to come introduce yourself afterwards
love this video, makes me very happy
That's the idea! Glad you enjoyed it
Loving the updated version. thanks guys
Mark! Thanks for the comment. How LONG is it going to be before we get to do another show together?!?
I love it!
Thanks, we do too
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Omg yes!
Yup!
Classic 🔥🤘
Thumbs-up!
Nothing is more bubble gum than Cyrkle's Red Rubber Ball!
It fits a few genres, including bubble gum. Just a great song...
Amen. Bubble gum is great music. Turn Down Day was the perfect balance to the BS by Dylan at the time singing out against wealth and privilege from his mansion. Or "music with a message" inflicted on us by Simon and Garfunkel. Art with a message is not art, therefore Turn Down Day is art! @@thecyrkleofficial5711
I dig it!
Thanks, we do too!
I dig it...
Thanks, so do we! Can't wait for some warm sunny days...
Awesome song!
Thanks!
Wonderful! Took me right back to the beaches of Lake Michigan where we spent a lot of those "Turn Down Days" back then. Thanks for this! Really Cool :))
Love your username! Glad it took you back to those great memories
I dig it 😅
You guys certainly have kept the intergerity of the org.
But even with the digital enhancements of recording.
well you all own that song.
period
LOL thanks! I think we'll keep it in the set list... ;)

Coool
Kinda going back out on the road myself, starting in Sept. One man band show. Anyway check this out. 223 working on it, rough cut.
Actually just finished a fullultitrack edited version of this, will release on you tube soon as 223 done rather than working on it
These new versions are great ! I wish you will consider re-makes of a few other favorites of mine ; "How Can I Leave Her", "Wish You Could Be Here" and "Please Don't Ever Leave Me"... all in my music library.
Thanks for the kind words! As for the additional remakes, there aren't plans for those currently, but "never say never". We occasionally do "Wish You Could Be Here" and "Please Don't Ever Leave Me" in our live show.
I love this song & a good group
Thanks for listening
I dig it.
We do too
Perfection
Not sure about the perfection part, but we love the song too! Thanks for listening
If everyone listened to this ...the world would be a better place for sure ...no stupid "gangsta" phony crap .
We do what we do, glad you enjoy it!
I was 14 and visiting Oceanside from West Virginia, just learning guitar. This tune hit the radio and was number1 boss. There new version is great, the bass line much more complicated but super. The harmonies great and the lyrics even better.
Great song
@@michaelhaniotes36 Hey Michael! Not sure how I missed your comment until now. Glad you enjoy the song as much as we do. It's a fun song to play! The bass line for this song is cool and very integral to how the song feels. It's the type of bass line you don't hear very often and it's a work out for the bass player. Check out that sitar part as well. We do it now using a sitar pedal box and our lead player bends things around to get the right sounding part out of it. It makes for a very unique song.
Loved your Red Rubber Ball video similar to this. This one is great too.
Thanks! Be sure to check out the one for 59th Street Bridge Song too.
Rock in fun song laid back all good
Thanks!
OMG OMG OMG MV is so GOOOOOOOOOOOOD

@@thecyrkleofficial5711 Red Rubber Ball is in my top 10 turn it up list. Love the lyric "I bought my ticket with my tears and that's all I'm gonna spend"

How can you guys still look so great?? I was 11 when I first fell in love with you, and I'm 68 now!! Any of you single ?? 😉
More videos, please!!!
LOL it must be the camera lens, because we always joke that we have faces for radio! We're all luckily and happily married, our wives are supportive of us and travel with us everywhere we go. We are very blessed!
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 I'm happy for you!
The Beatles would be choking on their jelly babies if they could've seen this.
It'd be fun to meet up with Paul and Ringo. I'd like to see if either of them have any pictures of us from '66. If they need an opening band, we could make ourselves available...
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 Yes. And weren't the Ronettes with you that last night too? This would be a perfect occasion for you and Paul and Ringo to honor so many of our recently deceased r'n'r idols. You guys always had the best single version of "Red Rubber Ball" hands down. I'm sure that John Lennon would vouch for you now if he was still alive. Me? I'd be in heaven just finding a red promo of Red Rubber Ball in mint- condition. The Seekers and Del Shannon also had spirited covers of your version. God bless you guys and never stop.
Billboard # 16
Yup, this one made it to #16. Red Rubber Ball made it to #2 in the US and #1 in Canada. Thanks for posting!
I retweeted The Cyrkle's Twitter. I released the illustrations I made by listening to this song. It is an illustration 10 years ago. Thanks for watching. Thank you for the good song.
Thank you so much, glad that you enjoy it!
Hi guys.
I'm 55 years old and just found you! I heard this song on XM Satilite radio and found it later on to see who it was! Then I saw that you are the cats who did "Red Rubber Ball"! So I listened to some of your older albums and made some observations:
It sounds like "The Four Freshmen" were an inspiration
For you? Perhaps?
BOBBY TROUP is smiling in heaven I'm sure! Your version of his "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring" was really good 👍👍👍! Very "Freshmen" inspired!
Plus, I hear some Freshmen type harmonies here and there throughout your songs.
And also, I wonder if the band
"America" used you guys for their inspiration?!
Your song, " The Visit" is "Pre- America", but I hear some Harmonies in that one that are very "America" like!
I made a custom playlist of your stuff 👍👍.
Good stuff!
Joe - great catch and thanks for the kind words! Yes, The Four Freshman were an influence, along with The Everly Brothers, The Beach Boys and finally, The Beatles. Glad to hear that you enjoy our music, happy listening!
GREAT song and love the video. Are those Michael's banana trees?
Thanks! And yes, those are THE banana trees. I think they are pretty amazing
Hey Don
What was that double neck guitar you guys used in the 60’s?
Love to find one!
Don says it was a Gretsch double-neck. We'd love to find one too, that one was later stolen and never recovered. :-(
More electric sitar! More electric sitar!
Don White would undoubtedly agree with you!
WIhen was it recorded Before or Just after covid 19 Was Declares a Pandemic?
We recorded the tracks just before Covid closed everything down. The mixing was done remotely afterward, with LOTS of files passed back and forth!
On the original 1966 recording, was that a sitar, or a Danelectro sitar guitar, or something else? And was that a toy piano? I have always been so curious!
Great questions! The sitar used WAS a Danelectro Coral sitar. We borrowed a copy of a Coral for our new recording of it. We had the same issues keeping the sympathetic strings in tune that you can hear on the original recording. The piano is just mic'd and EQ'd that way, not a toy. Thanks for asking!
So weird…the original doesn’t do much for me. This one I like!! Very pretty
Really appreciate you saying that. We put a lot of work into recording the new version.
HEY WERE GUY EVER ON LLOYD THAXTON?!?! OYE FEY!!!
Thanks for asking, but Don and Mike don't remember being on that particular show.
Hi, I commented on your other video. I want to know if it's true that you knew The Beatles and that John Lennon suggested you spelled circle with a y and a k? Hence, you have The Cyrkle?
Yup, absolutely true! The Cyrkle was managed by Brian Epstein, the manager of the Beatles and the funny spelling came from John. The Cyrkle was the opening act for the Beatles on their 1966 US tour. Thanks for asking!
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 You're welcome. I think that you were very privileged to have known The Beatles and John Lennon helped you with your band name. He could have just ignored you and went on his way. He was so caring of your band to suggest you change the spelling. Were you guys just in the studio recording and John Lennon saw how you spelled your band name then made the suggestion. Was he alone or were the other Beatles there, too. I'm just trying to know about music history first hand. I promise I won't bother you with anything else. I'm just curious cause I'm of course a fan. Did you meet The Hollies?
@@jackierichardson2070 Glad to answer your questions! No, the guys all first met at the start of the Beatles US tour. Brian had met with "the boys" in England, then communicated the name over here later. John would tease the band about the spelling, asking if they'd learned to spell it yet! I don't believe there was ever a show with the Hollies, I'd have to try to look that up. Thanks!
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 the reason why I asked about The Hollies, is that they also recorded Abbey Road Studios. OK, that's funny you were being teased by John Lennon. He was reported to always teasing someone. I think that was awesome you and your group had that someone so famous concerned about the name of your band. Thanks, for your answers. I am really a fan of the British groups. I was 10 years old in 1964. It was such an exciting time for music. I'm glad to have your songs included a part of my childhood. You even had Brian Epstine as your manager. I just envy your group a lot. Your very welcome!
Looks like gulf coast of Florida???
No, it's all Midwest or the East Coast. Great guess though! Thanks for watching.
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 Looks like a bay .I heard Simon whining about giving you the Red Rubber Ball Song. Why didn't he do it first?
And one last question how do you rate the Beatles Music ability?
As to McCartney Quincy Jones said he was the worst fu***** bassist in the World!
@@designstudio8013 sitting in Orlando, about to fly home after 3 shows in FL. No one here knows why Paul Simon didn't do RRB sooner, but we're pretty sure he appreciated the paychecks! As for The Beatles, I think their catalog stands on its own and what other band has their kind of following after 50+ years? Regarding Paul McCartney, everyone has an opinion. We think he's pretty darn good. 😉
@@thecyrkleofficial5711 Ok thanks and put out another 60's type song to restart the groove!!
I have heard...Sammy Hagar is now with the band & that they play Sammy's & Van Halen's songs.
Well now, that's a Circle of a different sort! Really glad to see Sammy's current band and you are correct, they play some of Sammy's solo songs, as well as VH material from when he was with them. All of this, not to be confused with us, the Cyrkle! Little did John L know when he named the band and gave us the funny spelling, that'd we'd need it some day to keep the Cyrkle and Circle separate... ;-)

This is almost too hard to believe. How about giving "The Penny Arcade" another spin?
Oh, it's been discussed. I'd like us to sort out "We Had A Good Thing Goin'". You never know!
Who played bass on the original?
Band member Tom Dawes played bass on the original recording. Thanks for asking!
